Andrea, you are a goddess! I made a last-minute haircut appointment while I was in town for work, and I honestly will make it a point to come back here next time I'm in town. Andrea did a great job with my cut, and offered a really helpful consultation before we got started. I was nervous to cut 4 inches off my hair, but she did an amazing job. And she was really friendly and offered a lot of suggestions for things to do while I was visiting Austin. The salon is clean and chic. It seems like they do a lot of wedding hair and makeup, and I can see why. It is a professional environment with high-class stylists. The prices were a little high, but since I only get my haircut a few times per year it's totally worth it to me, especially with the friendly and kind treatment I received. read more

I have used Andrea for both wedding hair and a regular haircut. Andrea did my (bride's) hair as well as my maid of honor's hair. She came to my house for both day of hair and bridal portraits. For the bridal trial run, I did go to the salon on E Cesar Chavez. I have nothing but positive things to say about Andrea and how she styled my hair. She was patient for the bridal trial run when I wasn't 100% sure what I wanted and amazingly talented. For the day of & bridal portrait sessions, she did an amazing job for both my sister and myself. Bex is the best! I've been going to her for a few months now and not only is she super sweet, but she truly listens to what you want done to your hair, and she DELIVERS! She's very educated and is a master in her craft, in particular razor artistry. I'm Puerto Rican and have wavy/curly hair, and I had SUCH a hard time finding anyone in the area that can cut and style my hair the way I like it... until now. As far as the salon, it's located in East Austin in an area that's getting built up. Parking is on the street but I never have a hard time finding one, whether it's the weekday or weekend. Although I never write reviews I have to write one this time. I went to Bex this morning with my hair needing some serious help. Just a few days earlier another stylist elsewhere had put highlights in my hair and they looked awful! So awful I wouldn't even wear my hair down all week long. Let me tell you about Pearl Studio... First of all this little place is just adorable - almost as adorable as the owner, Jen. It has got that cool loft/industrial feel to it with the cement floors and exposed duct work. It feels very city, yet very warm and comfortable. It is right downtown so it is perfectly convenient for me and the parking is very close, quick and easy. It is also a short walk from Cenote, my new favorite eatery, so I usually head over there to get a bite and show off my new, perfectly blown do! Now, let me tell you about Jen... Jen is maybe one of the smartest people I know. I love to talk to her because I always learn something new and it is very easy to share with her. Important! - I HAVE to like talking to my stylist because I have long hair so I am always there for HOURS! Jen is always upbeat and positive, yet calm and meticulous. I always feel catered to and totally at the hands of a real artist, so I never really tell her what I want because I will probably just mess up a good thing. HOWEVER, I have seen some of the color transformations she has done and I can't begin to tell you about the knack that she has in determining what looks good on each individual. Very cool! The hours I spend at Pearl are always filled with intelligent conversation. Jen NEVER talks about herself too much or brings up topics like religion or politics - even when I try! To me that is a true professional! Maybe the coolest thing about Pearl Studio is that I can see how much Jen puts her heart into the growth and education of the girls who work alongside her. I can tell it is important to her that the clients get the same great service and expertise every time, so I would be completely comfortable seeing one of the other stylist there. There are several stylists at Pearl so I don't want to leave anyone out, but I have personally seen and heard, many times, really great things about the work that Andrea and Shondi do. So If I can't get in to see Jen, I know I will get a good cut and color at Pearl Studio no matter what. In closing, I should mention the makeup that Maris does because it is definitely noteworthy. Her wedding makeup is the talk of the town, but all her styles are perfection and can run from clean, pure and beautiful all the way to cool, sexy and edgy. A real multidimensional artist!
