I rarely leave reviews, but my experience with Pearl Dental has been so consistently negative across my entire family that I feel obligated to speak up. All four members of my household have had disappointing or outright terrible experiences here. What is most concerning is how many glowing reviews exist, because our experience has been the complete opposite. It genuinely makes me question how accurate those positive reviews are. My own situation has been ongoing and extremely frustrating. In December 2025, Dr. Scott Pearl told me I had "baby cavities" and recommended filling them to prevent progression. I had no pain at all before those fillings. Immediately afterward, I developed severe dental pain that has only worsened over time. I returned for a follow up and was told everything looked fine, despite the fact that I was in significant pain. Now I am dealing with daily, persistent discomfort. To make matters worse, I have since lost my dental insurance, so I am stuck suffering until my new coverage begins. This entire situation was created by a procedure that I now strongly believe was unnecessary. This was not an isolated incident. About a year earlier, my husband and I were both convinced to get crowns. This had never once been recommended by our previous dentist. Since those crowns were placed, I have continued to experience sensitivity in those teeth. Looking back, I deeply regret agreeing to those procedures. My son's experience was just as concerning. He had fillings done for "baby cavities" and developed severe pain afterward. One of his fillings even fell out. Although it was replaced, he continues to have discomfort. Beyond the clinical issues, the billing practices are equally troubling. We were repeatedly reassured that our insurance would cover these procedures, even though we could not find Pearl Dental in network. We specifically asked multiple times. Despite those assurances, I am still receiving bills from procedures done two years ago. This raises serious concerns about transparency and whether proper insurance verification is being done at all. At this point, I fully expect to receive additional bills for the December 2025 procedures as well. Yes, the staff is friendly. But that does not make up for what feels like unnecessary dental work, poor outcomes, and misleading information about insurance coverage. I would never recommend this practice to anyone. I regret ever going here. I am counting down the days until my new dental insurance starts so I can have this work properly evaluated and corrected. read more

THIS PRACTICE IS BEING INVESTIGATED. I was a patient for over twenty years until 2024. I had to change due to insurance they were not participating with. During a visit with my new dentist, X-rays showed that a tooth that Dr. Gary Pearl claimed to have put a crown on was fractured but it showed no evidence of a crown. I absolutely know that I had a root canal AND a crown on that tooth. Upon calling this office later that day, Lisa told me that my chart records showed that a crown had been placed on the tooth in question. She then referred me to Gary's wife Dineen for further details. I requested the information on all of the restorative services that I had received from them. It's not a long list because I take care of my teeth. The information that I received, provided by Dineen Pearl, showed that a crown had been placed on the tooth in question, but current X-rays do not show evidence of ANY crown on it. Now they want to claim it was an onlay not a crown. Well I have verified with my previous insurance that onlays are NOT covered under any of their plans and since I know they were paid by my previous insurance 80% and I paid the remaining 20%, they had to bill it as a crown. That's fraud! I am reporting them to the State Department of Insurance and the State Department of Public Health Provider Investigations. They should also be aware that all conversations with them were recorded and will be sent with my complaints, not my problem that Dineen or Lisa didn't hear the statement that "this call is being recorded". Maybe the need to listen before they start yapping. No need to record any other conversations since their lies have already been documented and they cannot lie about what was said. Also, CT is a one-party State and one does not have to notify the other party. They said what they said, LIES!! They have also refused to provide me with my complete record of services provided while I was a patient. Well, they will have to release it to the State for this investigation. No way around that!! read more

Pearl Dental is the only place to give me an appointment for a same day emergency on a Saturday. I'm from out of town and had a major toothache. I called all over town looking for any dental appointments since my tooth was killing me, especially at night. I couldn't wait until most dental offices were open on Monday. I knew I needed crowns for two molar teeth. One tooth my filling had fallen out with a big hole and I never replaced it. The other tooth that hurt, was badly decayed. I wanted it pulled or to have a root canal with how much it was hurting. My tooth was mostly hurting badly at night, so Dr Pearl recommended me to sleep with mouth guards. I had taken lots of ibuprofen that morning. Since my tooth wasn't hurting bad at the moment, they set me up for an appointment a couple of days later for a couple of crowns. The next day my toothache started hurting the whole day with ibuprofen, so I just waited until my appointment. Told Dr Pearl about it and he gave my tooth another look and saw a small crack in my tooth. He said since there's a crack, no way of knowing if a root canal will work because the crack can go to the root. I just opted to have it pulled. I had the crown put on first, then had the decayed tooth pulled. Dr pearl made sure to ask if I was good all the time and gave me lots of anesthetics if I needed it. He also put in a bone graft so I can have teeth implants in the future. Sharon the dental assistant was also great. No one likes going to the dentist, but speaking with her made me feel at ease. She knew what she was doing and was proactive in making the scans for the crown instead of waiting for Dr Pearl to do it. Highlight of the whole place was the front office assistant Deneen. She is super nice and has a bubbly personality. She was able to squeeze me in for the emergency appointment. She also got me in for my crown by moving some other people around since I had to leave town soon. My emergency appointment with x-ray costs were waived by her since I had an appointment for a crown. She also gave me a pretty big discount for the crown and the extraction. read more

I have read all the stellar reviews concerning the staff at Pearl dental care. The staff should work on their memory. I attended my appointment to have a problem with my aching tooth which bothered me for a week. When I arrived at the office, it was suggested by the hygienist to have my teeth cleaned which they did at that time. She completed the treatment and she forgot my reason for the appointment. I was dismissed , paid my bill of $396.00 and left with my ailing tooth. I made another appointment for the problem tooth. This time she said I needed a deep scraping. which did not take very long because the former hygienist did an excellent job. Again, I was dismissed, paid my outrageous bill of $l556.00. I spent almost $2,000. for cleaning and scraping and I still have an aching tooth. I will not be back! read more

I had a great experience today with Dr. Scott Pearl. I appreciate the safety precautions his practice has taken during COVID as they made me feel comfortable throughout my visit. From the temperature check and COVID screening to all staff wearing appropriate PPE it was a great start to my check-up. I had a very thorough cleaning followed by an attentive exam by Dr. Pearl. He answered all of my questions and did not make me feel rushed. We came up with a good treatment plan and I was on my way in a timely manner. It was my first time to Pearl Dental Care...have never had a better experience at a dentist. Had virtually no wait, had my temperature taken as soon as I walked in the door, saw a dental hygienist who was great...efficient, informative and caring. Dr. Gary Pearl came by to review, gave helpful insight and recommendations on what next steps would be to continue to take good care of my teeth and gums. Felt very safe and well taken care of. I narrowly avoided two root canals and honestly believe if I had gone anywhere else the results would not have been so pleasant. She was gentle and precise and I would recommend her to anyone. Dr. Pearl has been our family dentist for years. The entire team from the office staff, especially Deena, to hygenists, and Scott and Gary Pearl use state of the art equipment, great patient care, and awesome customer service. They never want you to be uncomfortable and check in several times to make sure you're okay. I love that they stay up to date with the newest technigues and procedures. Dr. Pearl and I are pretty much bff's at this point. Due to some fairly poor decisions in my youth regarding the importance of dental health, I have had an extensive amount of work done at Pearl Dental. In general, they've always treated me well, and I am pretty much on a first-name basis with everybody there at this point. Dr. Pearl and my hygienist, Sharon (yep, I know her name) are both incredibly friendly with me. They make it as quick and painless as extensive dental procedures can be. Furthermore, the office workers have done a great job arguing with my insurance company about what should or shouldn't be covered. Granted, they don't always win (who does?), but I appreciate them looking out for me and deferring my bills until my insurance claims go through. I also enjoy the email reminder. I did, however, take off a star because I recommended a friend here and he felt they really leaned a little too hard on the upsell, trying to get him to put down a deposit on future dental work, etc. Also doesn't quite have the same family feel as smaller dental offices. Overall, though, they've done good work for me and I generally feel that they are on my side. Then again, with the amount of money I've spent, they'll probably have to name a wing after me soon enough. read more

I'm not in love with going to the dentist...but then again who is right? But really I dread it...My dentist retired so I was on the hunt for a dentist in a convenient location. I trusted previous yelp reviews and was not disappointed. The staff at this location are very friendly and efficient. I did not have to wait long before heading in and to be seen by the hygienist., I think her name was Lauren? She explained she'd be taking X-rays and doing a cleaning. She addressed my concerns and did a thorough job. I will be back in a week to have some work done and not dreading it as much as I usually do. read more

I have been coming to Pearl Dental Care for almost 17 years now. I initially came in for an emergent procedure- impacted wisdom teeth in my early twenties. I have sensitive teeth and gums but never have an issue coming to Dr. Pearl and the team for care. Over the years I have had multiple procedures, including gum surgery,root canal therapy, and cosmetic straightening (best thing ever- I highly recommend it!). I have so much more confidence and my teeth not only look amazing but are healthier and aligned now so I no longer have jaw pain from tooth grinding. Dr. Pearl is the best- I would not go anywhere else. I drive an hour each way because I am not willing to change practices. Sue Vito has been my regular hygienist for many years and I highly recommend her. She's caring, professional, and really helps you get on track with a plan to take care of your oral health. Sue is always responsive to my tooth and gum sensitivity issues and puts me at ease. I have seen other hygienists at the practice over the years as well- notably Robin Okolo-Lampron is great as well. The front office staff- Deneen in particular- are gems and know you by name. I never have had a billing issue or insurance filing that the ladies have not been able to handle smoothly. Appointments are taken on time and they have a nice email and text reminder system that is "with the times" that I appreciate. I have been going to Pearl Dental Care for 3 years, they are amazing. It is always a pleasant experience whenever I go, the ladies in the front office are always so nice and very helpful sorting out my dental insurance for me. I have seen both Dr. Pearl's, I recently had a crown done and was very pleased to learn that they do it all in one visit. Previous crowns (at other offices) were done in 2 steps which meant getting novacane TWICE....no one enjoys that!!! I just had my teeth cleaned by Jen, i have seen her several times now and my teeth always feel fantastic when I leave. A co worker had recommended Pearl Dental when I first moved to Hamden 3 years ago and it was honestly the best recommendation ever, I still thank her after every visit for sending me there. I first started coming here when my husband recommended it to me a year ago. Deneen at the front desk was one of the first people I met, and is always so accommodating. I hadn't been to the dentist in more than 2 years and every time I left an office I felt overwhelmed. Today was the first time I met with Stacey, she went over every option with me and made sure I was comfortable. She made sure that she had my finances in mind when trying to create a long term plan. Dentists mean money and it's always something I've tried to avoid because of this. The star of the show was Stacy. Stacy is unequivocally the best Dental Hygienist I have ever had the pleasure of working with. She is compassionate, and truly cares about taking care of me as a patient, and provided the human aspect of interacting with patients in a way that so many other hygienists lack. This dental practice was able to book us an urgent appointment within 24 hours. My tooth was severely infected and I was in excruciating pain, Dr. Pearl was able to remove it and guide me towards the best treatment plan possible. The whole staff treated me with the best care possible while being kind and respectful. There were no problems with booking the appointment and the check in process. I have always Been a person who has always been skeptical about getting dental work done, which soon changed after I sat down in dr Scott pearls dental chair for my first time. Being in his presence I automatically feel a sense of relieve that my treatment will be satisfied. Not just all his awards that are hung up on his walls impressed me, but his manners, professionalism, and overall knowledge are what pleased me the most. I've had positive experiences with the staff but their wait times are absolutely ridiculous. My husband and I have, on separate occasions, waited between 45 minutes and 2+ hours to be seen. I had a cleaning with Sabrina and she was phenomenal! Even the scrapping didn't hurt one bit and everything was super clean and she made me laugh and feel comfortable. When they pulled up my file they had pictures of what I assume are my sisters teeth (they had braces and I've never had braces) should have been a red flag.Then Dr. Scott came in, I don't really like the way he was talking to her. Maybe he just has a dry personality or was trying to teach her by asking her questions in a "Why did you drag me in here" kind of way but my biggest pet peeve was he never mentioned he wanted to give me fillings until I went to the front desk and the lady tried to walk me through $500 of future expenses. I told her he only mentioned keeping an eye on it and then when she brought him out he came in as if he had walked me through the process.
