Someone that you would welcome into your house, a neighborly disposition, and most importantly someone that helps you to learn about your current problem to avoid future visits. That last point may seem counter intuitive from a business standpoint but that's just the friendly, no-nonsense guy that he is. I paid full price for an incomplete project because a part was missing. So now if/when I get the part from the manufacturer I will have to hire someone else to complete the job. I think if the job had not been completed discount the price until completed. read more

I called Joel regarding my exterior doors. I thought they needed weatherstripping and sweeps replaced. He returned my phone call promptly, came out within a few days. He looked at all my exterior doors, determined that only two of the doors required sweeps, went to Home Depot and picked up the parts and finished the job, all in under an hour. I emailed Joel a "to-do" list from my inspection report to get an estimate. There were several items on the list, which included roof boot caulking or changing out to bonnet type, caulking on exterior of chimney trim, caulking outside exterior window, sealing a condensation drip, replacing a shut-off valve, dryer duct cleaning. These items are listed on his webpage. He replies that this is out of his scope and he can't do any of it. Lol... What kind of "handyman" is this person? Needless to say, I did not experience his service, but I can tell from this brief interaction with him is that he has terrible customer service, poor communication skills, and lacks real skills of a handyman. read more

Have tried to reach Joel 4 times over the past month and a half via email, text and phone. To date, I have never received any reply in any form of communication. I question whether he actually wants the work and I also would be worried about the overall lack of communication to receive if he actually did work for me. I do not recommend at all! This is my first time ever to do a review on yelp but I wanted everyone to know this. Joel Cohen was a rude guy and I don't recommend anyone to call him. He came over to my house so he could give me a quote on hanging up two pieces of art work since he wasn't able to give me that information over the phone. Wish I would of known his hourly charge was $65 an hour so I could of told him no right away but couldn't give me that over the phone. Don't know why but okay. Once he was here he told me it would be $80 just to hang the two pieces up thats where he told me his hourly charge. So I looked at him and said I'm okay that is way more than I excepted. That's where he blew up on me and I found it disrespectful. He probably thought I was wasting his time or something but in reality he was wasting mine by not telling me his hourly charge over the phone. I just want to advise people about his temper and be careful. read more
