If you need help with anything, don't expect remotely prompt, polite or helpful assistance. For several months, I had issues even getting on the phone with an actual person. Every time I called, I was greeted with their horrifically annoying automated menu that kept me circling back until I would pick from one of the few options they felt like supporting. I'd then sit on hold until I gave up. Recently, on a day when I was feeling ambitious, I called again and miraculously got to speak with someone. I could clearly sense the person I spoke with hated their job - I provided all the info she asked for, but she had to "pass me to another dept", immediately after which I was hung up on. This happened TWICE. The THIRD time I called, after not doing any thing different, I magically reached the right dept of "Customer Care" that the prior folks had tried to "pass me on to" - nothing shady there. I then had the pleasure of being greeted by a third miserable, job-hating rep, who provided help along the lines of, "I don't know what you want me to do" and who rudely spoke over me when I was trying to express my concern. Super classy. Do yourselves and your customers a favor, Peco; clean house in your customer service dept and/or provide Manners 101 training to your unhelpful, miserable staff. read more

Last weekend, I was without power for a whole day. Living in a 25+ story building in the heart of Center City, you don't expect it to take that long to have power restored. Apparatently PECO mistakely thought the same thing. They said it would only take a few hours to turn the power back on. After the two hours were up, the power was still off to the entire building. And they again said another 2 hours. This went on for the whole day and night. The power was off from 3:30 am to 2:00 am the next day. I can understand the powering going off. And that it might require more time to fix some issues. But PECO was way off in their estimates. I've never heard anyone say anything nice about PECO. And now I realize why. read more

I find PECO to be next to useless. I wonder what the hell you people do 90% of your day. If you would do routine maintenance on power lines, we wouldn't lose it every single time it spits rain, there's a rumble of thunder or the wind blows. Outage reporting is a joke, you never ever have the correct times which can ultimately be off by DAYS. I could probably learn how to become an electrician on YouTube by the time you come to fix my power that's been out for 12+ hours with no restoration time. If I were to begin paying you for days of working service per month, I'm sure you'd magically begin to get things done otherwise you'd be losing 5-7 days of pay each month. Horrible customer service!! PECO double charged my last payment when I moved out of Philadelphia. I called and asked for a refund and was told it was being processed. Called back when the money wasn't refunded in a timely manner and was told it was my fault?!?!? Unbelievable, especially since I never once missed or was late with a payment!! Then the representative put me on hold 'until I could calm down' because I was distressed about the overdraft charges!!! They don't care about their customers AT ALL!!! Powers been out since I woke up. No rain, no snow, no wind. Just incompetence. Website just keeps lying. Says less than 5 customers effected when the whole complex is out. This morning it said it would be restored at 11:40am. Then 2:30pm. Then 9pm. Now 2am. They tell the same lies to the apartment managers, who then send inaccurate updates to all of us. Didn't even say "crew dispatched" until it was dark out. If we had a choice you'd be in trouble. But we don't, so despite your inability to run your service correctly, you'll still have your customers. You'll get paid for not being able to keep the power on in a metropolitan area with no weather event in a developed nation in 2018. While I'm picking out what to throw out and keep in the fridge tomorrow, you'll comfortably enjoy your Sunday or be out getting paid to provide inadequate service. PECO is by far the worst company I have ever dealt with. Below I am going to list a series of events that happened with them over the past year I have had the extreme displeasure of dealing with them 1. Refunded me money of over 400$ because they overcharged me 2. A month later, removed the refund from my account with no history of it ever being there and when I complained told me I had no proof and did nothing for me 3. Tells you a time frame a representative will come out then sends representative not in that time frame so you are not home and blames you for missing the appointment 4. Multiple power outtages, when I complain that I am working from home and this directly effects me and would like money back for my troubles, get a very aggressive email back saying they cannot control squirrels on power lines so no I will not get any money back. 5. Never puts you in touch with management unless you jump through a million hoops. - I would genuinely and sincerely not recommend the use of this company to my worst enemy. They do not care about their consumers, they do not do anything to improve your experiences, they overcharge, do sneaky things, are hard to get in touch with, do not provide help, and are generally arrogant and mean when you do talk to someone. The best damn utility this side of the ol'mississip, they are a total POWERHOUSE!! You have electricity needs; they dish it up and serve it fresh. The online billing may be a bit cumbersome but the I have power 24/7/365 (almost) here in Bristol,PA. With that being said, there is an outage here and there, in fact I'm writing during one (that's what inspired this review) but it is once a year at most and is usually quickly rectified. The handy "online outage map" says it will be fixed within an estimated time of two hours. Of course if it's not fixed in a timely manner I will update this review. We are located right on the Delaware / Pennsylvania border. Our power goes out once or twice a month. Often in perfect weather. The lousy explanation I've gotten for 20 years, is that "we are at the end of the line". Like, we get a discount for rotten service (sarcasm). Complaints to the PUC, are dictated by PECO - I've gotten the same explanation for problems, word for word, two days apart. When power goes out around us, we are usually last by hours/days to get it restored. More frustrating, several hundred yards away, Hockhessin DE, served by Delmarva, seems to NEVER lose power. I tell her I'm worried, I have pets. The response to this , " You're not the only one , other people have pets too. " Sometimes instead of being an ass, saying sorry and having empathy go a long way. Basically for me PECO services have been great. I am blessed that I can pay the majority of my electric bills on time or very close to it, and the exact amount. My concern is what is the purpose of the inlets that discuss how much more energy I used than my neighbors? Is there something I am supposed to do , say or pay? Of course my bill is larger. I have a daughter that is being treated for CKD, she has a machine that has to clean her system out daily. Secondly, I am retired and a home -24-7., unlike when there was noone burning electricity from say 8-7 Monday-Friday. I am NOT interested in what my neighbors use, however, I am pretty much the oldest on the block, the ages runs any where from 30-60. They WORK!! so we do not share similar lifestyles so stop comparing me with them as if we do!!!( this is the only reason I gave 3 stars-,because I am continously receiving negativity regarding household usage and PECO doesn't know the circumstances!!!! read more

How many Peco Energy lineman does it take to turn on a lightbulb?.... This is the year 2009 and yesterday a huge tree fell across a main, two lane road and knocked down power lines. Eighteen and 1/2 hours later, we finally had our power restored. From 4AM to 10:30PM I watched as Peco trucks traveled down the road, along with firetrucks and police cars. The road was totally blocked, for most of the day. This is what ultimately irked me... Asplundh arrived shortly after 4AM, with trucks for removing this huge tree and two flatbed trucks with new poles. The Channel 6 news crews were there and the police stayed on the scene to direct traffic turn around. Peco workers were spotted having breakfast at the local eateries and or just sitting in their trucks in the nearby shopping centers. From what I have witnessed, this is atypical of Peco, Verizon and Comcast, to sit in their trucks and eat hero's and drink coffee. When will you be my hero guys? The Channel 6 news trucks came, Peco flew down the road to the scene. Later when the helicopters starting pouring in around 5PM and 6PM, the Peco workers again flew down the road to the power outage site. Now, I know I do not have all the reasons as to why they were not at the scene to restore power, but I do know, as sure as I am typing this Asplundh did their job, early on and left and the news was right on top of this story. Peco is the major electric and gas power providers in the Philadelphia and surrounding areas. Their generation and transmission charges have gone through the roof. We pay, we can't bitch, because they are the major game in town. I was off from work and did paperwork by candle light, okay this is cool and I know how they felt in Colonial times, all I needed was a quill pen and ink. I could not cook, do laundry or vacuum. It was a dismal day with the rain pouring down, my sump pump, dehumidifier and laundry pump not being able to assist me, so my basement flooded. I am hoping the food in both of my refrigerators and freezers is good. But, eighteen and one half hours, with no power, TV, computer and Yelp in this day and age, because a tree fell, is inexcusable. read more

The device where you remotely check my meter isn't working and instead of sending someone to fix it you send someone to put something on my door saying that you will shut my power off in 72 hrs if I don't let you read the meter? You were at my house to put the note on my door, why not read the fucking meter then? So when I call to try and clear the matter up using the number YOU gave me, I'm transferred 2 times to talk to someone who STILL seems clueless to the matter. Regardless, I assume its been cleared up because I'm not keeping you from reading the meter. More than 72 hrs pass, so it's safe to assume everything is ok, right? WRONG. My kids and their mom spend 2 days without electricity, in cold weather. Again, you fucking cowards were AT MY HOUSE to shut the power off , when you could have just, oh I don't know...READ THE FUCKING METER WHILE YOU WERE THERE!!!!!!! Your only saving grace was that , when we really complained, the power was returned pretty quickly , but still , I'm out the $25 fee to turn it back on and you are still a bunch of fucking idiots. Here's a good one. Got power turned off because the idiot driving the car could'nt read a house number. Pulled the meter, says you got no power and runs away. Tell him you got the wrong house and says too bad. Comes back and turns on power after company calls him. No apology. PECO rep says shit happens. File a claim. What customer service. The power went out at 9:30pm yesterday (a Friday night) and the power was returned less than 2 hours later. I was very happy about that because my street is a private cul de sac that I thought would be a low priority. And I really like their power outage hotline. They give estimates for when the project will be completed and updates on progress. It's really easy to use and I didn't find myself frustrated or stuck on the phone longer than I needed to be. read more

The recent hurricane and the fact that I didn't lose power once reminded me that a review of PECO is long over due. Not too long ago I smelled gas outside of my house. After calling PECO they came out to my house within minutes and discovered a serious gas leak. They possibly saved my house from blowing up. In addition the gas leak was below a window where my 2yr old sleeps. The PECO guys went above and beyond to turn the gas off, chop up the street, and repair the leak. All while not impacting my property or charging me. They were all very professional and kind to my wife while the repairs were going on. She called me numerous times to update me and always stated how nice they are. Thanks again PECO. read more

Gonna give this company one star on the basis of how they deal with bankruptcy reviews alone. It seems like they intentionally make it a long and convoluted process to get old charges cleared from your bill that should have already been voided by the bankruptcy courts long ago in the hopes that people will just give up and pay charges they don't legally owe. Incompetent and poor customer service/billing practices at best, or a highly unethical and possibly illegal attempt to get money not legally owed them at worst. This is the only company I've had to deal with this issue since I declared bankruptcy over 3 years ago. Guess it helps to be a poorly regulated yet legally-enshrined monopoly...you can tell your customers to go screw...also see other public utilities and telecoms. I've never had any issues with PECO. I recently called about my high bills that past few months (winter season) and the women I spoke to was knowledgable and answered my questions quickly. I use a supplier not associated with PECO (Inspire Energy) and found out that they are charging me 16 cents per KWH (whereas PECO is 6 cents per KWH). Granted, Inspire is renewable wind energy but they jacked up the price per KWH during this winter. I am on a variable plan but I've never seen a dramatic increase like this. I will be switching my supplier and will likely go with PECO/Exelon since they have a plan with 100% renewable sources and fixed price for 2 years. read more

Customer service is smooth & easy. You people who are giving them one star: you should try calling PGW, then come back here are rate PECO. And if you want to hate on linemen, while you sit comfortably in front of your computer, well I feel sorry for you. Those guys risk their lives working in all elements to keep your lights on. You don't even know the constraints of the job or who can do what when. Even in my scathing PGW review, I limited my remarks to customer service. And for the record: PECO is NOT a monopoly. I was a fan of PECO and still am, but this review is based on a one-time experience, not my overall. Hence my "Meh. I've experienced better" 2 star review. WARNING: IF YOU'RE MOVING TO A PLACE WITH GAS HEATING, TRANSFER SERVICE OVER THE PHONE- NOT THE COMPUTER. I did it on my computer and apparently the request didn't go through but I found this information out because I called PECO directly to check the status of the transfer. We have lived in our house for 18 years. If it is a windy day the power goes out. Everytime this happens someone comes out and hits a switch on the transformer behind my neighbors house. However, it takes them 5hrs to get here. Yesterday our power went out at roughly 2:30 PM. Power was not restored until 11:30 PM. Evertime I called the estimated time for power to be back on was pushed another hour or so. The one woman I spoke with was very snarky when I explained to her the times kept changing. She told me "you do know the time is an estimation, right"? The transformer blew up the street from us and when my son rode his bike by no one was there for 2-3 hours! I have 4 children, 1 is 8 months old. I rely on my power! read more

The day we moved in, while we were moving in furniture, our electric guy came. We had a pretty quick move and weren't told he would be coming that day. We are on the second floor and don't have access to the backyard which he needed. So we tell him we'll call our realtor to try and work something out. The guy says it needs to be quick because he can't wait. Which we were respectful of because we were sure he has other appointments. We stop moving furniture and call our realtors immediately. We were on the phone for literally five minutes. Not an exaggeration. Five minutes. Going through robots. When they said they needed to put us on hold and transfer us. We tell the guy we are being transferred and we're sorry about the wait, and he says, after five minutes, that he can't wait anymore and leaves. Like right after he leaves we gain access to the backyard. We call PECO and they say they should have someone else out by the end of the day or they'll call us. Fine. The end of the day comes and no one has showed up and no one has called us. We call the next morning at 7:30 am. The customer service person was rude and unhelpful. He said someone should be there that day, but would not give us any timeline. Not even like a several hour window. He just says before 4pm. Cool. So we coordinate so that there is always someone home. No one comes. At around 3pm, we call again. The lady is more pleasant but just says that we have a pending request and at that point could not guarantee that someone was coming that day. It's Friday. At 6:30, we call again. Trying to confirm that someone could get there Saturday and that we wouldn't be without power, to not fault of our own, for an entire weekend. The guys says there's been two failures to connect. We tell them we talked to the electrician the first time and he left before we could get him access to the backyard and that no one else has come. He then corrects himself and says that the second time there was a failure to come. Meaning for not fault on our part, we did not get our power. Also not only did no one call us to tell us our second appointment wasn't coming, but they tried to blame it on us when we specifically did not leave the apartment unattended. So now we have no power for the weekend. I doubt they will come first thing Monday morning. Terrible company with terrible customer service. I wish I could be as big of a useless asshole during the food service jobs I used to work at, as the people I've encountered have been to us. And I don't leave bad reviews often. I am the kind of person who won't send a wrong order back to the kitchen.but this is ridiculous. After a recent storm my power and my neighbors' was out for over 4 days. Peco was not prepared at all to restore our power. PECO should have to pay for our lost food, eating out (we can't cook without electric), taking clothes to laundry (can't use our electric washer and dryer) and even loss of enjoyment of everyday things like TV, internet, air conditioning and lighting. Had a large branch come down on our property which in turn caused our power lines to snap and some sag. We called the emergency line and Ms. Moore is one of the rudest, unprofessional people I've ever dealt with. She couldn't find our account and refused to give us a time frame as to when PECO would be coming out to fix our downed live wires. They should really reevaluate her an an employee. We asked to speak to a supervisor and she refused to get ahold of them for us. We still have no answers as to when someone will be coming out or when we'll get a call from the supervisor. read more

What a freekin' Nightmare! I went on line to start service - got all the way to the end and a window popped up that said they could not complete my request - called the 1-800. That led no where! I pressed all the appropriate buttons, answered all the questions and then they had a recording that all the agents are busy. I have been trying since Saturday night to get electric. I am sitting here in the dark and can find no way to get them to provide a contact person/phone number - anything to turn on my electric. It is now Tuesday. We had a nightmare with extremely unprofessional project managers digging up our front lawn for months to replace wiring in a transformer. We had very little communication throughout the entire process even though we repeatedly reached out to all involved with the project to have a meeting or conversation to inform us of the plan on our property. We were told for 3 months that once the work was completed PECO would take complete responsibility for replacing the landscaping that was destroyed and removed for the work. After lack of communication from project managers and much miscommunication with others involved in completing the project we were then told that they will no longer be responsible and any further work done to repair our property will be at our expense and our responsibility to manage. This is the most unprofessional and incompetent experience I have ever had with a large company who is supposed to be providing a necessary service to the community.
