a picnic table outside
Katie B.

Not much around these parts, so when a sign for ICE COLD BEER beckons you after a hike at Pedernales Falls, just like the dude, you abide. A simple little trailer boasting both the American and Texan flags on the outside, and on the inside, all the little snacks, drinks, and bottled/canned beer one on the outskirts of Austin could ask for. The beer wasn't the coldest, sadly, but there was a great variety. The gent working the convenience store was a little distracted (on the phone with some customer service agent), but he made up for it by sending us off with a complimentary bottle of water and turning up the music for us while we enjoyed our beer and peanuts out on the picnic tables under the sun! My Dodge Ram rental completed the Texas moment.

Closed when we showed up at 4 pm. Shame. I wanted a hot dog. Looked like a nice place from the outside.

Small and unimpressive. Beer not very cold. No indoor bathrooms and what little food they have is not good.

Easily the best place to stop if you're driving early in the morning and need somewhere to stop. Thank you!

While drinking the soda, there was something hard in it and I was getting little hard pieces of something in my mouth and it was not ice. I poured it out and in the bottom was calcium water deposits that had broken off from the fountain drink and into my cup. The bathroom smelled so bad I could smell the urine before I even open the door. The urinals were coated with dried yellow urine crystals along with urine yellow stains all over the floors and deposits all around the urinals and on the floor. The store was dirty it looks like it has not been cleaned in a while. I was telling the story to my daughter's boyfriend and he said that anytime he's in Johnson City he doesn't stop there because he knows how gross that store is. He even said the bathroom smelled like urine didn't they? Do not stop here if you have to go to the bathroom find another place. If you would like a soda, make sure you buy it from the cooler and the cap is intact. Disinfect the bottle before you drink out of it.

I had always wondered what the TXB stores were all about. Earlier this week nature made a 911 call…read morethat needed immediate response so I got to find out on an unplanned basis. Like most new mega C-stores, they are shiny modern facilities with more than just gas, chips, and beer. They're actually little food courts and restaurant oases that can make you a decent meal if you want it. Gone are the days when you're only option were hot dogs off of the steel rollers - - although plenty of those places still exist. For the necessary, I found their restrooms to be spotlessly clean and will maintained in terms of supplies. Nothing like a surprise when you're dealing with a surprise and in that regard TXB delivered. As an unexpected bonus there are self-check registers. I found that to be quite cool and bit of a time saver. I'm from that generation that was taught if you use the store's restroom, you should buy something--no matter how small--to thank them for being there for your biological needs. But, far too many times, in the quest for doing the right thing I found myself further delayed or inconvenienced. In addition to being in a hurry to get here, I was also in a hurry to get back home so time saving was very much appreciated. I think their prices on snacks were a little high and that was the only downer of the experience. Maybe I'm just not familiar with buying nuts at convenience store prices these days but $6.95 for a smallish bag of David's sunflower seeds seemed bit off the charts. I'm sure I'll be back for more or less than I came for this time and now it's not such a mystery to me. Recommended. P.S. In case you don't know what the TXB is all about it just stands for "Texas Born" which is both the store credo and mantra.
