Recently, I needed a teeth cleaning and decided to come back ~ and I'm so glad I did. Jessica's amazing leadership made everything seamless. She was incredibly accommodating and able to fit me in very quickly, which I truly appreciated. My hygienist, Simi, was fantastic. She was gentle, knowledgeable, and talked me through the entire cleaning. She gave me excellent advice on preventing coffee stains and maintaining proper oral hygiene. Her care and attention made the whole visit comfortable. I also want to recognize the lady at the checkout desk. She was very kind and clearly explained the payment options ~ including that using a debit card would avoid a processing fee. I really appreciated the transparency and being able to make the best choice for myself.

I am an adult, I terminated my treatment because I was satisfied with my teeth prior to the designated time frame. Dr. Abdoney was not happy and removed my braces begrudgingly. He was rude and make no attempt to make me feel happy about my treatment. I signed a form terminating treatment only to be subsequently billed for arbitrary charges. My credit card on file was charged without authorization. When I attempted to resolve the issue, they billed my card again. Buyer beware, this office is filled with greed and unethical billing/business practices.

Since when does an employee at a business have the right to say what they think about a paying customer? Especially when it's not true. It was just a nasty jab. Her behavior was precipitated when I tried to explain to her the scene that a non-patient had made in the lobby earlier that day. The daughter of the non-patient, who looked like a member of the Insane Clown Posse, kicked my foot. This brat...I mean little girl told her mom I gave her a nasty look. I explained to her mother that her daughter kicked my foot. Her mother asked her if she said sorry. The little girl started crying. The mother told her daughter that I should've sat back in my seat. This was ridiculous. There was so much room in that office that the girl should not have made any contact with me. The girl started crying, and her mom continued to make a fool out of herself and her daughter. Two of the front desk staff instigated the hostile non-patient by laughing. Not only was I a patient, but the rest of my family was as well. Having to endure the behavior of that belligerent woman, who wasn't even a patient, was just the beginning. The office manager stated she does not make excuses for her staff's behavior, but that's all she did. I told the office manager that my family would not be back. The office manager and Shehata proceeded to tell me that I should think about it and not make a rash decision. Who the heck do they think they are? They couldn't care less about my family. My family did not need a payment plan. We paid in full. So SouthShore Orthodontics can keep the one unstable non-patient and lose three others because we have found a better and more professional orthodontist's office. I changed my star rating for SouthShore Orthodontics from 1 star to 5 stars only because of Dr. Ahrens. He swooped in with professionalism and kindness. If my family only worked with Dr. Ahrens, we would still be patients at SouthShore Orthodontics. Although the paperwork I requested was incomplete, I was happy to receive something. If it wasn't for Dr. Ahrens, nothing would have happened.

This practice has a common issue of Over-billing. They tell you they take your insurance then you…read moreend up with a larger bill than you should for what insurance "did not cover". I was concerned for my daughters teeth as a new tooth was coming in behind her current teeth, I exchanged consult messages with them and photos (My child was a current client) and was advised the earliest they could get me in was two weeks, and they needed an xray to confirm the new tooth was not absorbing the old roots. As a parent, not knowing anything about dental, this made me freak out worse and feel the need of a sooner appointment. Two weeks later and my wife took my daughter to the appointment today, she was in and out in less than 6 minutes for the grand charge of $150 plus my insurance is being billed. My wife was told this is very common and nothing to be concerned with. The consult messages only mentioned this may be common AFTER they booked an appointment and scheduled X-Rays. I then started to research it and it is very common, called "Shark Teeth" and unless the child is feeling pain there is no need for a dental appointment or alarm. I was never asked about her feeling pain, or told of just how common this was, instead they used a parents concern for their child to schedule a meaningless appointment to milk us for money. This was 100% a cash grab, and prior appointments were the same. They bill insurance, then hit you with 2-300% what the typical cost for services are, and I would assume its solely due to the location in South Tampa and the expectation we are willing to be taken advantage of or pay more.

The dentist came in and when the assistant explained what my sister asked for, the dentist said "we're using A1, and that's that! It's the best, basic color, and the brightest choice we have".. apparently she thinks because she's a dentist her patients don't have a say, and she can dismiss their requests all while being a Jerk about it. Dental care is a service and being a service means we can select other locations if your service is subpar. You can thank your rude dentist for the upcoming revenue loss you will incur.. We're new to the area so 1) I have 4 other mouths full of teeth in my house who won't be coming here and 2) I'm putting them on blast online so everyone else can be warned on how they will be treated before selecting a new dentist once day companies will realize you can't treat your customers rudely and expect to still thrive!
