I am extremely disappointed with the unprofessionalism displayed by Odessa Children's Surgery Center. They called us the day before my 5-year-old daughter's scheduled surgery to inform us that the anesthesiologist was "too scared" to proceed due to a heart condition she has -- a condition they were aware of for weeks. Her cardiologist had already cleared her as low risk, yet they waited until the last minute to make this decision. Do you know how difficult it is to prepare a 5-year-old for surgery, only to have to turn around and tell her she's "too much of a risk"? It's heartbreaking and completely avoidable. If the staff had been diligent in reviewing her case sooner, we wouldn't have had to endure this stress and disappointment. Families deserve better communication and respect. Look at your cases ahead of time and inform parents promptly. This kind of last-minute decision-making is unprofessional in every way. read more

We were referred here by our pediatrician and today we brought our newborn to see Dr Kathleen Wasylik. She was very professional and kind. She was able to perform the Frenuloplasty surgery same day in the office. She was very informative of post op care. I'd highly recommend Dr Wasylik and her staff. Keep up the good work guys!! I scheduled my appt for my sons tongue tie about 4 weeks ago. I read these reviews and became very nervous. I understand each surgery is completely different & we all have special needs per case. With that being said I wanted to be optimistic with my appt today. I arrived about 20 minutes early to my appt which I was seen at 950. Not bad considering my appt was at 940. I wanted to give myself enough time to find location. When I checked in the nurses were very kind & thorough with instructions. The nurse brought me my child & I back quickly very professional. I then met with anesthesiologist, I Very particular with explaining my reactions to medications & explained he had runny nose / post nasal drip cough. The dr listened to everything I said & made me feel confident with him handling my son. Then I met Dr Rose Throwbridge who is very delightful. She gave me the rundown on procedure & again very thorough. I felt confident sending my 2 year old to surgery. Exactly 11 minutes after he was sent back she came out to speak with me. Went over the procedure and how it went. I was then called back by a nurse to get my son. She was also very kInd & thorough . I love it when people explain stuff to me so I can be confident on recovery or situation. I was out the door by 1030. This facility was extra friendly, professional, clean & I give them 5 stars. I understand every situation can be different in these settings plus we are are stressed to the Max with our babies. The most precious things in my life are my grandchildren. The. Most. Precious. So, when I found out that my granddaughter had trouble with an earring breaking off in the lobe of her ear and needing a little surgery for it, I was panic stricken. I don't want any doctor touching my baby girls ears. Even as a nurse, I know this is completely irrational as there are plenty of docs out there who are qualified to remove the post from under the skin of her tiny ear. But, when her pediatrician (who I dislike immensely) recommended us to Pediatric Surgery Centers, I was extremely skeptical. Walking in there, I have to admit, my mind changed very quickly. A large, beautiful playroom for the kids makes the waiting room a bit more bearable. Television screens playing Nick Jr. and Sprout, video games (some which didn't work very well, but don't tell a 4 year old that...she had no clue) and lots of fun art on the walls. Okay, Grandma is mildly impressed, but not EXTREMELY impressed. What extremely impressed Granny was once we were called into the back room, into a triage area of sorts, where we meet the nurses and doctors that will be handling the surgery. Each little triage area is filled with toys, everything kid friendly. The nurses were AMAZING and the doctors were so sweet. Even the anesthesiologist comes out to meet us, and goes through every aspect of the surgery with us. Doctor assure us she will be in and out within 15 minutes, with maybe a half an hour in recovery, where my sweet Princess will be lavished with a Slushee or an Ice Pop as she recovers, depending on what her little heart desires. Well, true to their word, she was in recovery within about 15 minutes. Doctor came BACK out (this is a rarity for doctors) to talk to us about how the surgery went and even brought us the broken pieces of her earring that were removed from her ear in case we "wanted to save them", all neatly placed in a little specimen cup. To even think that those earrings might have been something special to us was very considerate. By the time we went back to see her in recovery, the nurse was just handing her a big pink ice pop AND a blue raspberry slushee from their slushee machine (yes, a slushee machine in the recovery room!) She was sitting up, smiling and ready to go home. Needless to say, this place completely met Grandma's approval. And Sadie wanted to know when she could come back for another Slushee... No offense, Pediatric Surgery Center...if we HAD to come back, we would. However, Slushee's will come from 7-11 until we NEED to see you again. But if we had to...I wouldn't think twice about bringing my precious cargo back here. read more

Just make sure to get in writing how much the cost is. This place is Mickey Mouse at best the way they function. I went in November and they told me approximately 1800 to get my daughters tonsils removed but said they would call me with an exact number three months go by no call. I have an HSA account so by the time the surgery is going to be done in February money will be there I figure so np. Some other medical things come up, so I'm trying to figure out when to book those appointments based off of the HSA funds. So I called these guys back three or four times over the course of three or four days to come and find out there's four different entities that you have to pay, the surgeon prior to the surgery date the facility on the surgery date, an anesthesiologist, who there is no contact information for whatsoever and you don't know what that cost is going to be until afterwards, and a pathologist who it seems they don't even know if they're going to be part of the cost or what the cost will be. On the fourth day of calling I got a woman who seemed to be of Hispanic dissent and does not speak very good English telling me I need to call the doctor to find out how much the doctor is going to charge after I specifically said, how much is the facility going to charge. So I again reiterate my question second time around she seemed to comprehend me and tells me the same lip service I've heard multiple times, you'll get a call back. At this point, I've had it and I say no we are less than two weeks away from the surgery date no one has called me back at all. I want to know what this cost is going to be I'm trying to schedule other medical procedures next week for something else she comes back with $3500. So the $1800 quote more than doubled with the facility cost and the surgeon cost of approximately $500 not including the anesthesiologist, which we still don't know how much that's going to be or the pathologist, who we don't know is even going to charge and if they do how much that's going to be. So in short, this place doesn't seem to know what the hell they're doing and operates on a level that you would not expect of any sort of professional institution. I have seen lemonade stands run better than this place. read more

PLEASE DO NOT TAKE YOUR CHILDREN HERE! My 4 year old son went in for what was supposed to be an in and out procedure. About 10 minutes into the procedure, the doctor (Dr. Wade Cressman) came out of the OR to notify us that everything had gone well and they would call us back within 20 minutes. After over 50 minutes, I started to panic. They said my son was having a severe croup attack when he woke up and that they wanted to make sure he got a breathing treatment before I went back (who wouldn't they notify me?!!). When we were finally allowed back, we found my son swollen from crying, had petechiae all over his face, bruises at his jaw line where we was forcefully held down and he was having the most severe croup attack he had ever had from screaming so much. Once in the recovery room, we noticed every other patient that was wheeled out of the OR, had their parents by their side as the awoke from anesthesia, why didn't they allow me?? My son can't stop talking about it. Says they held his face, out a mask on his face and held his eyes so he couldn't see. How is that ok?!? How is it acceptable for any child to be treated that way? I came to this office after a few people recommended it, I regret t every single day. I should've went elsewhere. Please spare your babies the misery. read more

Because of this surgery center I was able to have some piece of mind during my son's procedure. They even let him wear pajamas and bring his favorite blanket for comfort. We were explained to about what was going to happen every step of the way, and the procedure itself took less than half an hour. It was a tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, and ear tube placement, and as soon as it was over Dr. Orobello met us in a special waiting room to tell us about how everything went. Minutes later we were able to go to into the recovery area to see Bobby. The nurses took great care of him, and although he cried a little about his throat, he quickly calmed down after a few hugs and kisses from Mommy & Daddy. We couldn't have asked for that day to have gone any smoother! read more

This was our first visit to this center. It was so nice! Super clean, very friendly staff. We were in and out of there in under 45 minutes. We were there to have my son evaluated my enlarged tonsils/adenoids, not actual surgery. I'd totally return! read more

The office personal is terrible kept changing surgery times for my daughter then they told me my other children couldn't be in the waiting area and I m new to the city and don't have any family and on top of that other parents had their children in the waiting room..and they were eating drinking and I don't think its rite that my daughter had to sit in the waiting room with other child and parents eating in front of her and she hasn't eating in 14 plus hours because of the surgery ..unprofessional very unsatisfied.. read more

We had the best experience here. Class act from start to finish. Our surgeon was Dr. Andrews. I wish I remembered our anesthesiologist's name as he was great too. It really is a blessing that this type of facility exists to make children who have to undergo surgery or a procedure feel comfortable. They also go out of their way to make parents feel comfortable. I am very impressed with how seamless our experience was. I noticed another reviewer gave a poor rating because of the wait- but you are waiting for individualized attention and quality. They have you check in earlier than your surgery time to allow time for paperwork to be processed and everything to be double checked and prepared for your child. You can't expect to be whisked back as soon as you arrive. We had to wait too, but they make the waiting area a kid-friendly hang-out spot- so we didn't mind at all. Personally, I don't want people rushing when it comes to my kid. Overall, I would highly recommend this facility and Dr. Andrews. The surgeon, anesthesiologist, and nurses were all very professional and caring. I was very pleased with our experience from start to finish. They definitely have their act together. read more
