Market is the restaurant in Paris which is owned and part of the 60 restaurants international celebrity chef Jean George V. Jean George had a restaurant at the Waldorf Astoria in Beverly Hills, which I frequently dined at as I lived closeby but that restaurant permanently closed :( I missed the restaurant and it's euro asian fusion creations and was so I was delighted to see the restaurant here in Paris. With an Uber busy itinerary of events, we only had time for desserts and ordered the tried and true classics...All were decadent and we savored every bit. The restaurant wasn't as fancy as the former Beverly Hills JG and service was slow. This was our first time to the Market - the first impression was that the restaurant was extremely busy as it is Christmas Eve, and we were offered a table on the side rather than in the restaurant so we were a bit disappointed. We ended up waited to be in the main room, which is contemporary and airy. Overall our experience was very positive- plenty of space between tables so we did not feel too confined. Since it is Christmas Eve dinner, things did not always work out the first try. My chicken special was extremely over cooked and the prosciutto pork chop ordered medium rare was "well done". The staff were excellent: we send both dishes back and they were very attentive and made sure that our experience was all the more enjoyable including the senior management who visited our table throughout our dinner. Both dishes second try was excellent . There was a large selection of top quality appetizers (Breads, cheeses, salads, seafood), good main courses (Meat, seafood, vegetables, pastas) and a huge variety of deserts on offer, there was something for everybody! read more

I'm so glad I found this gorgeous restaurant before my trip to Paris so I could make sure I tried it here while on my vacation. It was really a delicious meal set in a very hip, funky and warm setting. The staff were great, the food spectacular and I couldn't really fault it here at all. I had the Spiced Chicken Samosa's for entree, and for my main, I had the very yummy Cheeseburger. Everything came out in good time and as asked for, and tasted so good, that I wish I actually lived in Paris so I could revisit often. If you think that while in France you must only eat French food, don't. Don't let that stop you from eating at places with fusion cuisines, because there are plenty of cool, modern restaurants with gorgeous flavours, and Market is one of them. The plus sides of Market are that the ingredients are very fresh and the cooked elements are done to perfection. The service was also excellent. The down side of Market is that it lacks the elegance of preparation that you expect of a Jean Georges establishment. For example, my tomato, avocado, and mango salad was composed of perfectly ripe and delicious fruit; however, it was a larger portion than necessary and it was swimming in dressing. My husband had the arugula, fennel, mushroom, and Parmesan salad. He said his salad was overdressed, too. For an entree, I had the ricotta ravioli. It was also heavily sauced. The menu at Market is a bit odd in that there is no clear concept. You can get chips and guacamole, pizza, or tuna tartare. I suppose there is something for everybody! Market has fresh ingredients and a bustling scene. It may be worth a try if you are in the area. I won't be rushing back next time I am in Paris. read more

Total deception, rip-off! I chose this restaurant based on so many great reviews and ordered the same things other people were raving about. But now I am suspicious of those reviews. WARM bottle of $180 champagne - discovered upon the first sip. Very rude waitress refused to replace it, instead putting it on ice for 30 min. while she served our appetizers which we had to eat without the champagne. Totally BLAND main dishes. Cage-raised, under-cooked chicken breast thinly coated with tasteless breading on a bed of hard, canned artichoke pieces all swimming in an extremely overwhelming and exaggerated lemon sauce. The salmon was equally as bland with hardly any seasoned crust and served with a side of plain mashed potatoes!! The turbo fish (50-euros) was a pitifully small filet cooked plainly in the pan and served with plain white rice and only a small side of pepper sauce to add any flavor!! This is the biggest deception from a restaurant I've ever had living in Paris for 30 YEARS! What they served was not worth even half the price. One of the better places esp in North County. I think they may have moved to prix fixe/fixed number of courses, which may be a bit like how Jeune et Jolie does it up in Carlsbad. Food has always been consistently good. Well heeled clientele by the looks of things. Decor/design isn't like Born and Raised but it's a bit more appealing than the aesthetic at Pamplemousse (another great place, Jeff Strauss is amazing), which could use a bit of redecorating. only so much you can do in a strip mall with those crappy acoustic drop panel ceilings. read more

I don't know what the fuss is about for this restaurant. It was mediocre at best. One of the entrees had to go back. It was chicken. The French invented the sous vide. How can the chicken be DRY? Steak was OK but a little tough. Dessert was good. I ordered a gin and tonic. Tonic was €7 on top of €19 for the gin. Whoever designed the restaurant should be applauded. Not worth the price at all. The service was poor. I ordered my steak medium and it came well. They also prepared one of my sides incorrectly so I sent it back. While they were making me a new steak they didn't take back my side of mashed potatoes which got cold while I was waiting. They brought the asparagus back prepared wrong again so I just asked them to take it off the bill. When they brought me a new steak it was cooked properly but was unremarkable. They do accommodate gluten free but it's quite limited in options and the exciting things are all unavailable gf. Had the cheese plate but was unimpressed with that as well. I ended up paying 90 something euro for a mediocre meal at best. Wouldn't recommend. Try Le Florimond instead! read more

The service was super We had the lamb chops and although the taste and the bed of vegetables were exceptional l, I expected the thick cut chops to be a little more tender. I hate to give any Jean-Georges restaurant anything less than 4-stars, since I am a big fan of his cooking and restaurants (NYC, Shanghai, London), but Market in Paris unfortunately missed enough of the marks to warrant it. The restaurant is quite attractive & the location terrific. We were warmly welcomed & sat, though the table given was odd (in the doorway to the main area), given that the restaurant was half empty? Perhaps the first warning sign. It took 15 minutes for anyone to take our drinks order, despite a full staff & a only handful of tables occupied. We ordered our drinks, & our meal. Another 10 minutes goes by before any drinks show up, despite waiters busily moving from one side of the restaurant to the other oblivious to the tables. I ordered the Bandol (delicious) & my wife the rose (also delicious). To start, i had the crab cake, which was really good, but...a bit burnt on the top & bottom. Definitely not up to the mark. My wife had the samosas, which were good but not great (she loved the accompanying salad, for a woman who hates salad). We both felt the samosas should have been more flavorful, & better 'infused with India' (try them at Chutney Mary's in London). For our mains, I had the sea bass: really, really delicious! But..the hunks of broccoli surrounding the plate were pedestrian at best. My wife had the chicken & artichokes, which also missed the mark: the chicken seemed to have been cooked 'sous vide', so the texture seemed undercooked. The taste was fine, but she couldn't get past the texture. The sauce was ok if a bit bland, the artichokes delicious. In hindsight, it was a bit disappointing given all of the JGV meals I've had around the world. The staff were friendly, but overall the serving & kitchen staff need to up their game. Decided to finally have a nice dinner in Paris tonight and thought I could not go wrong with this place. Unfortunately the food was ok and the service was bad. Considering we spent 155 euro for two people it was disappointing to say the least: Service (1 Star) It took about 10 minutes to take our drink order and another 15 to take out dinner order. We had to ask for bread and our table was tiny and since we didn't order wine you would think to take the wine glasses away. Food (2 Stars) Appetizer Pistachio Guacamole with Corn Chips was ok. The guacamole had a hint of pistachio which made it unique but crazy for 19 euro. Calamari had no taste and needed salt. It was crispy but really bland. Main course Rigatoni pesto and pistachio was good and pasta was cooked nice Beef tenderloin was ordered medium rare but came medium to medium well. Because it took so long I ended up not complaining and finished the dish. The sauce and the brussel sprouts and gravy were great but as I tried to finish the beef it got tougher with every bite. The gravy and brussel sprouts saved some of the dish For dessert we ordered the lemon almond cake and it was ok. Could not discern the lemon not the almond. We asked for the check and again it took another 30 minutes. All in all not sure if we were considered second class citizens because we sat in the bar area but for a JG restaurant it was surprising to be treated to such lackluster service. I love LOOOVE market! I had a cocktail to begin with which was the 'moulin rouge'. It's more or less a cosmo with raspberry instead of cranberry. Then tomatoes with mozzarela as an appetizer and filet du canard (duck filet) which just came on the menu (seasonal) and loved it! For dessert I had the cheesecake which was the best ever that I've had so far. I read some of the reviews before I went and was a bit worried that service would be bad but our waiter was very attentive and he knew what he was talking about. He paired our food with the wine very well and had great suggestions (the duck was his suggestion). Probably the best service I've experienced in Paris. Loved the Friday night crowd - so lively and such beautiful people :) I'm definitely going again soon. read more

I came here with my family for dinner to celebrate Christmas. We were the first ones at the restaurant at 7pm, which was odd, but tables filled fairly quickly. To begin, we ordered the Black Plate appetizer (a little bit of salmon and tuna sushi, crab egg rolls, fried shrimp, and chicken samosa). It's a bit pricy (35 euros per person) for the amount of food, but it's worth it if you want to get a taste of everything. Plus, it is rather filling! By the time our entrees came, I was already pretty full--probably from munching on the bread basket. The sea bream was great!! It was fresh and the spicy sweet sauce was not overwhelming as I had feared, but perfect. I was not expecting the veal dish to be fried, but it was a pleasant surprise. The Asian cabbage complemented the meat well. The beef tenderloin, however, was a disappointment. Perhaps, as a fellow Texan with a fine tuned tongue for steak, I am biased. But I would not order this again, nor would I recommend it to anyone. But who goes to Paris and orders steak in the first place? The steak came out perfectly medium rare as I requested, but the flavoring seemed off. The mustard and lemon sauces on the side were a bit too strong, just like the too salty kale. The dessert, like the steak, was equally underwhelming. We tried the dessert platter, which was actually a lot of food (64 euros to feed 5). I was the most excited for the crepe cake, but it was more like a bread pudding cake than crepe cake. The cheesecake and ice cream were alright. The chocolate lava cake was amazing though! If you are a chocolate lover, skip the dessert player and just order the chocolate cake! I believe it comes with ice cream too! Overall, I had a fabulous dining experience. The service and ambience were five star. And the plating of dishes was done very elegantly. While I think I could find better food for a more reasonable price, I would definitely come back for another try! read more

The food was good, not great - except for the strawberry dessert, which was outstanding. However, the service was...odd. It seemed that our server was feuding with the chef? They were standing outside the kitchen clearly fighting - which happened more than once. I think the server was distracted and brought us the wrong bottle of wine. Was recommended to come here for Sunday lunch by the hotel concierge. The food here is definitely modern with some Asian and international dishes. Wasn't expecting it to be that good given the wide range of cuisines offered but everything turned out really yummy!!! A pleasant surprise. So I will start by saying, we read all the reviews and were super excited to eat here our last night in Paris. It looked nice inside, though it wasn't very busy when we at around 9 p.m. About 3/4 of the way through our appetizers, we saw a very large, dirty mouse with a looong tail come up to our table. The mouse eventually scurried away into what looked like the kitchen and we sat there a little shocked. My fiance kept eating-I could no longer! Just then, the little guy appeared AGAIN. This time, we found our waitress and told her. The restaurant moved us to another spot-then nervously came over to us and tried to explain that due to construction this was happening "everywhere" and they were aware and were calling a fumigator.... We got the rest of our meal and I seriously could not eat anything. I was grossed out. My fiance finished his food. It wasn't the best, but it was tasty, he told me. When the check came, I was a bit surprised. Despite our little visitor, they took NOTHING off the bill. Okay, we thought, its a nice place. That sucks, but whatever. They even offered to bring free dessert. We had kind of had enough and were ready to go, so we thanked them, but declined. Around 3 a.m. disaster struck-my fiance could not stop throwing up and getting sick in, uh, other ways. We had no idea what was going on, but he, a doctor, concluded it was food poisoning. We do NOT know for sure that he got it from the restaurant, BUT the timing worked out and it was the only restaurant that day where I shared almost nothing of his as I could not really eat. Come to today, two weeks since the trip, I called the restaurant in France over 10 times, costing us about 50 bucks in charges. EVERY TIME they say they will be refunding us, they promise, and it hasnt happened. Oh, did I mention that the first time I spoke with them they said, "well maybe your husband had a little too much to drink?" Um. No. Hangovers do not equal food poisoning. I continue to be outraged and I have endlessly tried calling and emailing and they are VERY clearly avoiding us. If you like rodents, I'd say give it a shot. :) read more

The other reviewers French and English seem to have it about right. The location, the atmosphere and the service were all excellent. In the 8eme, just far enough off the Champs to avoid the general hordes, friendly staff and a real buzz. The menu is a mix of Asian / Japanese with more traditional French dishes. My starter, a developed sushi with attitude, with rolled tuna and spicy pea sauce was excellent. My veal with beans was exactly that. Veal with beans, perfectly well cooked and, well, that's it really. The challenge, I think for places like this, is that they are caught in the middle. Its clearly not Guy Savoy and yet it's significantly more expensive than the hundreds of wonderful places in Paris where you could get well cooked veal. If the "buzz" is important for you and the location is convenient, then Market is perfectly good choice. Everything will be decently executed. If you want to pay less or eat phenomenally well, then look elsewhere. read more

My 4 stars are because I have history with this's place. I came here 4 years ago on my honeymoon, before I was a yelper and the experience was awesome! We had reservations and ordered our usual with a few additions. The additions weren't so hot but the fromage pizza never disappoints. The arugula salad was filled with delicately sliced parmesan, which I thought was good but my hubby was not a fan. The ceviche grape and lime plate was right up my alley as well, although I must worn it is very very sour and finally, the chicken was great but also very lemony, which again, I loved but my hubby not so much! Overall, I think the first time we came we were more excited about eating here than the second time around but Market will always hold a special place in my heart.
