We love Pedrin's and their staff!!! Although I always get the same thing (Buffalo Chicken wrap on a Tomato Basil wrap) , my boyfriend gets all sorts of things (and we always get their delicious onion rings , yummy!) The big sign on the top emphasizes "dairy" and "fish fry." Believe them. Don't make my mistakes. I ordered the grilled chicken ("Chicken Grilla") and a burger. Both are better at McDonald's. I do not know what was actually in the chicken patty, but it was not a hunk of chicken breast. Stay away. The burger was ok. After throwing out the chicken, I tried the fish fry. I figured, this is their home. I also asked other people in line. Well, the fish fry was excellent. It looked like two real pieces of fish that were lightly breaded. Stick with that. We came through town to spend the day at MoCA. Skip lunch at their café and come here! You can come and go from the museum, so it's easy to pop down the street for lunch. I've heard everyone raving about this place, and I passed it all the time when I was living in the area. During my visit, my friends and I got burgers, and onion rings and fries to share. We got a lot of food for what we paid for, we couldn't even finish it! I liked the burgers, and they were exactly what you would expect from a roadside stand. A really wonderful find on route from South County up to Mass MoCA. Spacious old fashioned drive inn, order at the counter, move to picnic tables around the side. Full menu of everything from fish/scallops/whole and strip clams to burgers, fries and fantastic fried mushrooms. Soft serve, free sprinkles. Not all that enthusiastic about their fare. Over the 26 to 27 years I've lived here in Adams, I've been to the place maybe seven times. I have never left thinking to myself, "Oh boy I'm glad I stopped here from my food!" Instead, I end up thinking something like, "Dang, I might spend a little more, but the food is so much better at so-and-so place." I have ONLY found my self there due to all the other places closed or I'm just too pooped to drive elsewhere! I have asked the staff a few times why the place is referred to as a dairy bar when it's not? I have never received a logical "make sense" type of answer. Never! On the one hand the food is sort of okay, but it sure as heck is not something you would fix yourself at home. But if you like hamburgers where the grease will drip down your arm sometimes, and if you like floppy flimsy sometimes fully cooked french fries, you'll most likely the place & food is great. read more

We were really excited about going to Pedrin's. We lived in the area for 6 years and it was always a fun time to stop in. Were back in town shopping. Went yesterday. It was atrocious. Took 35 mins to get our food. We watched multiple families after us order much more complicated meals and get their food before us. One even ate their meal and then got ice cream before we started eating. From the start the person taking our order was unfriendly and rude. Our order was very simple. Two burgers without buns, hot dogs, fries and a shake. 35 mins! It was clear our food sat for awhile in the takeout containers. Fries were getting cold and burgers had steamed in the container and were given to us in a puddle off grease and water. Order was not correct either. Items missing from both burgers. We were respectful and friendly to the staff but still got treated badly. Will never go back. At least the shake was good but not enough to rescue the rest of the meal. read more

We are New in town so we decided to grab some seafood. My wife wanted to get to Fishermans platter we usually split it. When we brought it home, we open it and noticed that there is barely any food in there and we paid $26. also, the clam strips were just clam strip crumbs, barely anything in there. It was like they put the bottom of the bag in the fryer and that's what we got. I understand that can be expensive, but at least give us some! Food was OK but the portion was very small.For $26 there's a lot other places with better portions you can spend your money on in the food is very good.! read more

I ordered a whole clam roll and a chocolate shake. I intended to eat the clam roll when I got home decided to pull over the side of the road and give it a try. First of all I ordered a coffee shake and I got a chocolate shake. Not a deal breaker. Then I started eating the clam roll and I have to say it is probably the worst playing well I have ever had and I've had some crappy clam rolls. Maybe it was my mistake to get some seafood like this so far inland, but this place has a good reputation. What I got was a rubbery, tasteless, clamroll with maybe three anemic bellies and saturated with fat. And it tasted like old, overised fat. Never again. read more

We love eating at Pedrin's! The entire experience is great, from ordering your food and receiving a random number to eating your meal on brightly colored picnic benches, it is different and fun. It is not cheap, but it is worth it. The highlight for me is the onion rings, but everything we have tried has been delicious. Last weekend, Columbus Day weekend, they were low on stock so I am assuming that they were closing for the winter, but I am not sure. It is a great place to go on a beautiful day. read more

Fried goodness with a cherry on top. Pedrin's is an epic stop when the snow finally melts in the Berkshires. They serve typical "stand" food including hamburgers, hot dogs, and a variety of fried food baskets. They have picnic tables for seating so it is obviously a fair weather affair but it is well worth the wait for that first fired shrimp basket of the spring. After finishing your meal they offer a variety of desserts including ice cream sundae's and they even have and old slush puppy machine too! Whether you are just passing through North Adams or you are there for an extended stay, Pedrin's is a must visit during the spring, summer, and fall. read more

Mmm fried things. I just moved up to the Berkshires, so I've been making fairly frequent trips to Walmart the Berkshire Mall - which always takes me past Pedrin's Dairy Bar. I started noticing that the parking lot was always full and found myself wondering what they had that was so excellent. The very phrase "dairy bar" exudes awesomeness, so I stopped in to try it for myself. The menu is pretty basic: hamburgers and hotdogs, lots of fried things, and shakes. They were pretty quiet when I stopped by (at about 4 in the afternoon on a weekday) and the girl at the counter was super-friendly and patient as I decided what I wanted to eat. I went with a pulled pork sandwich, onion rings and a chocolate shake. I got my food to-go and waited about 5 minutes for my order - easy peasy! The food was solid. The pulled pork was flavorful and had good sauce, and I liked that they gave me the option to have the cole slaw either on the sandwich or on the side (eat it on the sandwich!). The onion rings were delicious - very thin, with a great batter, and a very generous portion. And the milkshake was *amazing.* I guess that's how they put the dairy in dairy barn, right? Whenever anyone asks me why I love Pedrin's, I always say, "Because they know how to work an honest fryolator." They do. Their fried goodies are as good as I've had anywhere. If, like me, you try to keep your fried food indulgences to an occasional treat, you really should treat yourself to the product of the fryolator as it's done at a place like Pedrin's. But the real reason I love Pedrin's is memory. Eating at Pedrin's is, for me, a quintessential summer experience. In New England, summers are short, and maybe that's why we cherish those things that we can only do during those few months. Eating at Pedrin's means sitting on the tailgate, changing my hiking boots out for Tevas, bringing dirt and mosquito bites and an honest hunger after a day on the trails of Greylock. It means little kids jumping up and down as they wait for their order, adults spotting friends and socializing, as much at ease as if they were on their own patio. It's the sound of the loudspeaker saying "Order for Bill" across the parking lot, the long summer evening light, the hills so green you feel like they hold all life in them. It's another year, and here we are, at a place that means summer. tl;dr:yeah, the food's good. But it's not the only reason to go. Not like I remember from 10 years ago. We just moved back to the area but remembered stopping in on hot summer days for fun and taking school groups for a treat. Just went the other day to take family from out of town and spent a fortune, which is fine except now the burgers are tiny little things and the fish is not fresh, just sad limp bits on a sad limp roll with packet tartar sauce (Blech!). Shakes are ok, nice and thick but a bit tasteless, could be more chocolatey pr strawberry-y. Pedrin's used to be so great. What happened!?!? I honestly don't mind paying more for a local spot with good quality food, but sadly this is no longer it. :-( read more

Wow! What a disappointment! I grew up going to this place and used to LOVE the fish fry. I couldn't wait to come home to North Adams from RI to stop by and get one. Unfortunately, it was terrible. The fish was definitely not fresh and the breading was awful. My mother got one as well and agreed. They are also much smaller and much more expensive (which I actually don't have a problem with if it's good) than they used to be. Sad to say I won't be going back. Not sure why you would try to fix something that isn't broken. Very disappointed. read more

Like going to Pedrin's.. used to LOVE going to Pedrin's, the food is good, the prices great... Some years ago they used the "New England" hot dog rolls, which are cut at the top and grilled on the sides.. what a difference these make. Where I'd go every couple weeks, now it's maybe every other month... Too bad.. it was part of the appeal, the crunchy roll with a great piece of fish and tartar sauce...
