I went into Peet's on a long lunch break after no one in the area could seem to point me in the direction of a tried and trusted Starbucks. I'd heard great things about the coffee and decided I was game for my first venture into the world of Peet's. However, nothing could've prepared me for the terrible customer service I received from our friendly (insert: SARCASM) neighborhood barista, Austin. I walked in and perused the menu while a lady in front of me wrapped up her order. I walked to the counter when it was my turn and Austin stared at me with a questioning look and didnt say anything. What? Did I have something on my face? Was there food stuck in my teeth from lunch? SPEAK! I raised my eyebrows, waiting for the customary response typically afforded of someone in service. He finally said "What did you want?" Um, hello! How about a "Hello, welcome to Peets! What can I get for you?" I placed my order, fairly simple iced caramel latte with soymilk, to which his response was "What was that?" or so I heard, which prompted me to repeat my order and he responded, apparently annoyed by my lack of hearing, "No, I said WHAT SIZE?". A little customer service provided to the *GASP* customer is apparently too expensive in this economic recession. On that note, after working for 10 years in customer service, I REFUSE to spend my money anywhere that cant muster a friendly face, even if it is a forced, fake one. On the really crummy days when I cant drag my happy face out of bed, guess what? I stay home. (Austin: that was your tip, in case you were looking for the one that I didnt leave behind) Austin: between ringing up orders for iced coffees, which I'm sure must wear on the soul, please look up the definition of customer and customer service in the dictionary. Ok this place has a special place in my heart! Can you say Coconut Mocha Freddo!! OFF THE HOOK! The place is pretty conveniently located next to the Safeway shopping center, gas station and the freeway! The coffee shop is pretty big, clean and has bathroom and Wi-Fi which is pretty standard now a days. The service is pretty good and the baristas know their coffee. They do have an outside sitting area but when it's hot I'd rather sit inside in the AC! read more

I love Peet's. They make the only sugar-free mocha that actually tastes good. But this Peet's is always off the mark. Mochas taste-wise are hit and miss (I know barristas' drinks differ slightly, but there is a correct "taste", you know what I mean?). I dunno if most of the staff who looks like a teen is a teen, but teens and 20-somethings who are way too chatty with their inside jokes and ignoring customers or slowing down the service because of it. I always tip... because I love Peet's and always tip my local Peet's people (in SF), but I always regret tipping here. I always end up here though, because it's closer to me when I'm in Novato than the one by the library... sigh. read more

Peet's Coffee has always been my brew of choice when I near a serious wake-up call in a cup. The blends are strong, distinctive and reliable. There's nothing worse when you binge drink a giant coffee and it does nothing more than fill space in your stomach and continues to leave you wishing for your pillow. This Peet's in particular is adorable. It's a great place to get work done and the staff is client-oriented. I've never had a bad experience here. The baristas chat up the regulars and make you want to become one. Let's just say I allegedly may or may not have accidentally asked for a "tall" mocha, and the barista didn't even wince, just gave me a smile. So the coffee is mostly always good right? It's Peet's. Sometimes it comes out too strong or needing more syrup or whatever but all Peet's have basically the same menu. I'm reviewing this Peet's on the cleanliness of the restrooms. I like this location and I come here a lot. Just don't ever use their bathrooms. Today, like the last three times I've used their restroom, it was filthy. We have a considerable commute from here so I can't always risk being caught in traffic and having to pee. Today was the last time I go in there. The trash is always overflowing, the toilets are always dirty. There was literally on the side of the toilet seat today. The sinks have moldy rings around the faucet knobs. Just completely gross. There are enough people in line paying $5 a pop for a cup of coffee that surely they can afford enough staff to keep the bathrooms clean? It's a mystery. read more

Peet's isn't the cheapest, nor the fastest, nor the most popular, but it's the best. After working for years in the coffee industry, at many different stores, including Peet's, there was only one that I'd spend my own money on, and this is it. Now, years later, I'm still buying beans here twice a week. Hamilton is a newer location, and frankly the whole strip mall is a bit sterile, but I'm not one of those people who comes in for the ambiance, I'm here for the coffee. One time while working at the Peet's in Mill Valley years ago, a customer said to me that there are two places he went that he knew he'd be waiting for longer than he should have to, Peet's and the Post Office. The Hamilton store isn't quite as bad as the old days in MV, but Peet's is still Peet's. Don't you love when your timing is perfect? We went to this new Peet's this morning on our way to work and placed our order right before about a dozen other people got there and formed a nice long line. Watching other people wait in a long line is just like seeing someone else get pulled over - you just can't help but be happy it's them and not you. Peet's is my favorite coffee house chain but I have to admit I find myself at a loss for details, because this location is just like all the other Peet's in the chain. Strong coffee, a great tea and coffee bean selection, lots of seating, clean bathroom - quite a few of the same characteristics of Starbuck's, but the coffee is much better and it's not Starbuck's, so you can openly hate Starbuck's for always being so conveniently located. Eventually there will probably be a Starbuck's inside every Peet's. read more

Been hitting this Peets up for afternoon coffee, and I have to say I really like the location. Okay - the parking lot is kind of a pain at lunch time, but it is one of the only Peets that has plenty of seating inside and out! The tables are big enough to spread out your books/projects and still have room for your cup o' joe. I love that. And I find that it is rare in Peets Coffee & Tea houses. Peets brews a mean cup of coffee. And really, the main drawback to me is in general - they lack seating... but not a problem at this location! Gotta love that! And another note... nice clean bathroom, too. Always a plus when you're chugging coffee on a lunch break - inevitably you need to make that quick pit stop! Today I ordered an iced decaf mocha. The so called "professional barista" poured all the ingredients into the cup and handed it to me without stirring it or mixing up the ingredients. The chocolate was on the sides and on the bottom of the cup. I had to ask him to please stir it up and he seemed rather put out that I would ask him to complete the task of making the drink. So much for be being a "professional barista" Update: so during the past week I was contacted by someone handling the social media for Peets who apologized and assured me that the store manager would handle it. Well, I went in there today and ordered the same drink and guess what? Had the exact same experience from Myron who made the drink. Just poured all the ingredients into the cup and handed it to me with out mixing it up at all. I can only conclude that this whole Social Media Customer Service Specialist of Peets reaching out is a bunch of malarky and Peets has no interest in providing good customer service. Peets coffee is just simply the best, and this location is less crowded than many others in the Bay Area. The staff are low-key, but insanely helpful. I left my cell on the counter one day and they snagged it immediately, so when I came back 5 minutes later it was safely stored at the register! So nice. Parking at this mall is in high demand all day - park in the larger area and walk to save yourself some aggravation. Because it is literally next to the freeway off-ramp, it is very popular with the typical off-on traveler, which leads to some interesting parking lot situations. This is a newer Peets. Its pretty. Lighter colors then when it was by the bagel place on Grant. More cheerful. Smaller though and where to stand is not as defined. That may sound funny but you see people just kinda looking clueless at each other. As always half the employees are delightful and the other half are beautifully emo. I like that there is always consistency in the coffee and tea drinks. And that even with the iced espresso drinks they add foam. It adds depth to the drink. read more

Cashier wouldn't provide a refill for $1 unless I would stay in the coffee shop. This is first time ever happened to me. Service review. I had been visiting this location for the last 3 months on a daily basis (Mon-Fri), 1-2 times a day. Each time, I ordered the same drink, large coffee with an add shot which normally only takes 2 minutes to make, 5 minutes tops. On this particular morning, I was waiting for my drink, staring at my coffee on the counter chilling out for several minutes waiting for the shot, as I noticed all the people behind me had already ordered & received their drinks before I did. This happens from time to time so it did not bother me and I am fully aware that there was the possibility that the people behind me ordered drinks that required less time to make, even though I know for a fact my drink requires far less time to make versus a latte or cappuccino. At that point, I noticed the barista (tan female, dark hair in a pony tail) ask her co-workers "What is this coffee for?" I told her it was my drink and simply required a shot. She acknowledged me and told me she'd take care of it. This is the part that irritated me and prompted me to write a negative review. Imagine my surprise when after she acknowledged me, a rush of customers entered the store. Instead of pouring my 1 shot and serving my drink, I watched her make and pour 5 more shots before mine (no exaggeration, 5 shots for other drinks). Mind you, this was for customers who had just walked in AFTER I told her my coffee was sitting there and needed a shot. Unbelievable. Oh, 1 last observation. Only one young lady (nice lady with glasses) ever remembered my initials for my drinks. Maybe I'm being picky here but visiting everyday (Mon-Fri) for 3 months and they all have that same glazed over look in their face asking for your name as if you walked in for the first time ever. By comparison, my local Starbucks remembers my name every single time and often has my drink ready before I even pay. I'm not all that offended but again, just an observation. So Mr. or Ms. Peet's manager, when you have to explain to corporate why sales went down in this store by $700-$800 annually, you can show them this review. read more

I go to the San Rafael Northgate location. oh and since i started (this second paragraph is me finishing it up) i've gone there like 3 or4 times since people at work insist on there, i had me a frappaccino or however that's spelled, with HUGE chunks of coffee beans in there! We love Peets, and whenever we want coffee, look for the nearest Peet's. Coming back into Marin on 101, at about 6:30 pm on Saturday, we headed to the Hamilton Field Peet's to get some coffee and buy some Italian Roast for home. Although there were three baristas behind the counter, and we had waited in line for about five minutes, after one woman finished her order, and no one else was in line, not one of the staff acknowledged we were there, or even bothered to state, we will be with you soon. All simply walked away. We were left standing in line for several minutes. We don't think the world revolves around us, and did not think the waiting was unacceptable. Not even acknowledging we were there, or that someone would take our order, was. It is not the customer service typical of Peet's. Because no one seemed to be interested in us, we simply left and went to the Northgate Peet's. Service and the coffee were great. read more

This is my usual Peets since it is close to home and most of the time, it's acceptable but they definitely have a lot of work to do on their attitude. Often times it's just that there is no "thank you" and not even an acknowledgement of an order or even a smile. Today, however......BAD attitude. I guess it's not acceptable anymore to ask for a specific size mug. I asked, and was acknowledged buy the cashier and the barista (shorter gal, dark straight hair, somewhat heavyset) also acknowledged. Then she made it in a different cup. OK, mistakes happen. When I mentioned that I requested a different size mug, she argued with me about they do it, then grabbed the other mug out of my hand, poured the cappuccino into the requested mug and shoved it back at without a single word or even looking at me. Met a friend here for after work coffee. I just ordered a black coffee (which was not the Sumatra that their label stated, but rather a Columbian coffee) and my friend ordered an iced coffee. I drink mine black, so did not pay any mind to the condiment bar, but when my friend walked over I noticed what a mess it was (the condiment bar, not my friend). No taste, except watered down liquid chocolate! This is not cool. I suggest you "taste test" your drinks before you drive away and go to work. This is in a Safeway/McDonald's/tons of other stores series of strip malls. Parking isn't necessarily easy, but it really worked for me on Saturday night when I was tutoring at this Peet's. The music was really at a low volume, so I didn't have to shout at my student or mentally filter out the blaring "relaxing" music (think "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest"), which I often have to do at Starbucks and Peets or other coffee places. Basically, no one bothered us and we got our business done. It's nice to be near a Safeway, a McDonald's and a Super Duper (the burger place, not the Western New York supermarket chain) if you want to eat lunch dinner before or after having coffee, and the Safeway has a gas station with cheap gas. So all in all, my experience was a win. :-) read more

SERIOUSLY... if I'm going to be paying 6 dollars for a dang latte I expect the baristas to be trained! I've been in the past few weeks and every single time my latte is just... nasty, to put it nicely. The milk is burnt. The foam is not creamy but over steamed and all curdled. The shots are dead. It's just gross. I don't know why I keep expecting to get that perfect latte every time I come back. I love the coffee at Peets. I have one request for this location though. Please assist in keeping your customers out of the ATM and Wells Fargo bank parking stalls.
