We were assigned to this office as a primary Dr. for our 2 kids. When we called the office, we were told that we would have to pay an ADDITIONAL $450 PER MONTH - not per year, PER MONTH. I am a doctor and handle almost all of my children's medical issues myself, so it is unlikely that we will need more than 2 well child visits per year. I'd like to rebut the most recent negative review of this office and Dr. Katiraei. Pregnancy is very difficult and the stress of finding a good pediatrician for your child is tremendous. I have given birth to my second child just 5 weeks ago, so I know very well. It is unfortunate that this woman felt like the office staff did not respond to her in the way she had hoped, however ANY doctor would likely have responded similarly, as they make a living giving their time to patients. This is my second review, and two years later it remains 5 stars. If you feel hesitant, you can read all of the other 5 star reviews, and then also search for Whollistic Kids and Families, which is the office as a whole, and read all of their awesome reviews as well. Two years ago, a co worker recommended I take my autistic son to see Dr. Katiraei to see if he could help alleviate some of his symptoms with supplements. I mulled it over for a whole year and then decided to make a consultation appointment. Dr. K, as he is called by everyone in the office, made us feel at ease the moment we arrived. He sat with us in his office full of toys for the kids to play and we reviewed our concerns for our son, our health history and hopes for our son's improvement. We started with a pretty hefty list of supplements. Dr. K had most of them in his office, and sold them to us at a slightly discounted price from the manufacturer and the rest we bought ourselves online. This was, hands down, the best choice we have EVER made for our son. Within a month of taking the supplements, we saw huge improvements. I kept a journal to document the changes and emailed Dr. K frequently to report. His patient portal service is phenomenal, and he answers all of our questions within the day most times, or at the latest, the following day. We have never felt more cared for by a doctor or office. The staff, Petra especially, is so inviting and friendly. She remembers details about our family and asks how we've been when we call. She makes us tea upon our arrival to the office and interacts with our son, even though he doesn't respond to her most of the time . Santa Monica is lucky to have Dr.K, he is one in a million and truly, truly cares for his patients as a whole. He goes the extra mile for everyone and is an incredibly compassionate man. Went to meet the doctor for a free consultation while pregnant and loved him. He was smart, his views likeminded to mine & he made me feel comfortable. He explained his monthly fee to me and did so in a manner which I completely understood and felt that it made sense for him to charge it. While being a monthly fee paid outside of insurance it was actually cheaper than another holistic doctor I had interviewed. I was deciding if my husband and I would be able to commit to an extra fee, as once our baby is born our insurance will increase again bringing it to almost $1000 a month out of pocket. I was planning on choosing Dr. Katiraei but had a back up doctor in mind who didn't charge a monthly fee, just in case we couldn't swing it. Problem came when I had a few super quick questions after my 15 min free appt with the doctor. I got worried that the sleeping arrangements I purchased weren't safe for my baby. I originally believed they were but once it arrived (after my appt) I became concerned that maybe it wasn't the best decision and I didn't want to wait till after the baby was born to figure it out. I also now had to make flight arrangements & really wanted to enroll in a mommy and me group (which had a much earlier start date than I expected and a deadline to enroll by the end of the week). I wanted to ask him at what age it was safe to do both for the baby i.e. his immune system strong enough to be exposed to traveling, other babies etc. These 3 things would have taken about a minute and a half for him to answer. I called the office on Monday am and left a message. Thursday came around and no one had called me back yet. I called again Thurs am and Petra answered and had trouble understanding me (not sure why) and became short & started interrupting me. I asked her if the doctor could just all me back whenever he is done with his day as it would only take a minute for me to explain. A few hours later I get a voicemail from Yolanda to call back the office. I call and call and get the answering machine again, for about a 3 hour time slot. I finally get a hold of her. I told her that I hadn't signed up yet because I was deciding between 2 doctors but was almost positive I'd go with Dr. Katiraei and just had a few quick questions. I trusted his opinion on them. Well, she too rudely starts cutting me off as I am explaining my 1st question about the sleeping arrangements I purchased. She tells me that these are all questions that would be answered after I signed up with their monthly service and after my baby is born. I explain again that I don't want to wait till the baby is born to figure out if what I purchased for him to sleep in is safe and that I need to make travel arrangements for flying asap. She was so rude and kept cutting me off. She then had the nerve to ask me if the other doctor I was considering answered questions like this for me before I picked him as my pediatrician. I was almost about to say ok sign me up but I instead asked her if it was a problem to just ask the doctor these three quick things. She said she'd call me back shortly. Literally 5 seconds later she calls back saying that she spoke with the doctor and that my free consultation with him would have been the time to ask these questions and if I had any more questions I'd have to pay $100 for 15 minutes of his time. Wow, Really?!?! 1st off I don't even believe she asked him because unless he was standing right next to her there wasn't enough time. 2nd if he happened to be right there, you can't take one minute to answer a question right before I'm about to sign up and become a 'client' of yours. I say the word client because there is a fee. It became immediately clear to me that this office is all about the money and doesn't give a crap about helping mothers make decisions. This makes me sad because I really did love the doctor. I don't get it & I think it's in poor taste. I wasn't asking for the moon and had your staff been more helpful and you'd taken a minute to speak to me I'd have picked you as my child's pediatrician and paid your monthly fee. Even though your front desk hardly ever picks up the phone. And btw, I called the other doctor after & he got on the phone right away with me and answered my questions. He's holistic minded as well and doesn't charge a monthly fee. Him and his staff also didn't make me feel like I was crazy or bothering them by asking. read more

He worked with me with the best treatment approaches until he got the best one that fit my needs. Dr. K is kind, patient, thoughtful and one of the most intelligent and well-rounded doctors I have ever met. The amount of time he spends with you and your child could in no way be compared to any traditional pediatrician. Dr K thinks outside the narrow box most peds see through and has answers that most peds would never have in their lifetime. Yes. He is THAT good! For the mother who gave him a low rating: no doctor in their right mind would (or should) answer those questions for you over the phone without your child being a patient! Dr. Katiraei's care and dedication to my toddler has been nothing short of exceptional. My son was born with Down Syndrome - an extra copy of the 21st chromosome which causes several functional deficiencies.
