The food is pretty solid. Not the best Chinese, but certainly not bad. Food came out hot and fresh. The two plates we got were a little bland. We got chicken wings, potstickers, Hunan chicken, lo mein, hot & sour soup, and wonton soup. The biggest oddity is the staff behind the plastic wall, like they never came out of Covid. You walk up to the counter to order, then entire counter is taped up behind the plastic wall. I love love love this place! They give you sooooo much food for the price and it's authentic beyond compare! They care about their community and that in itself is a reason to give them a try. Absolutely the most tasteless Chinese food I've ever eaten. Who wrote these glowing reviews? I guess if I'd only ever eaten Chinese cuisine from a hospital or school cafeteria I might have been impressed. The fried rice didn't have one vegetable piece in it other than white onion. The mixed vegetables were so bland, I covered them with soy sauce just to get something to taste. I was wishing for a shaker of MSG to sprinkle over my plate! Had to be in the area for an appointment and was in need of lunch. Driving a couple of blocks up the street found Peking. In the window you will find a sign "for take out only". In serious need of lunch walked in and took a look at the menu on the wall as well as one of two paper menus on the counter Deciding to go with the lunch Shrimp & Broccoli spiced medium. Paid, told 10-15 minutes. This gives you time to look around. The buffet was closed (clearly during this time). Face masks were worn by staff A giant plastic barrier was put into place to keep the help safe from customers. So why no gloves on the four people cooking and no hand washing between cash/ cards transactions then cooking? While shrimp and broccoli were fresh.. there was mo flavor for such a simple dish? The sauce was way to thick and tasted of nothing but white pepper. The lunch specials come with whi9t or onion fried rice. I wanted white emded up with the fried rice SKIP IT was bad amd when trying to use soy sauce to jazz it up made it worse. The dish was thrown in the trash half way through. Granted it's a hole in the wall. The atmosphere is not all that great. However the food was really good. No complaints here. I ordered the sweet and sour chicken with rice and an egg roll for about $6.25. The chicken was of excellent quality with beautiful solid white meat. The batter was perfect and it was deep fried to perfection. The rice was soft and moist. They had a 97% health rating and the place looks clean. They are obviously known for their take-out. We were the only ones eating there however there were numerous people coming in and out so you know their food is always fresh because they're constantly cooking. Which was a nice surprise seeing that we were there on a Sunday around 8 o'clock. Usually don't get much service on that day and time. It looks like they have a buffet that they probably run during the week at lunchtime. It was not open so I did not try that. Maybe on a future trip. I left there happy and full. read more

Over the last few years have tried most of their expansive menu and have been happy with most everything. Some of the standout dishes are the Sesame Chicken, Mongolian Beef, Fried Dumplings, Spare Ribs, and the Pork Egg Foo Young. This place is great at what they do and that ain't decor, it's food. And they deliver! If you care about looks keep it moving if you enjoy food this is where it's at! Caveat Emptor They have gone downhill to the bottom of the barrel of Chinese restaurants in Statesville. Once a Chinese restaurant serves American white rice rather than Jasmine rice, they have given up. Their pork fried rice is nothing better. No pork, peas, or egg...just their American rice with soy sauce. Such a shame. Spent about 50 bucks and was appalled at the lack of flavor and all the cost cutting measures they have implemented. This is a little family run business which offers delicious food in a quick manner, both for eating in and take-out venues. While I have not tried it yet, there is also a "salad bar" which offers a selection of all you can eat food there as well. The prices are reasonable and the variety wide. WORST CHINESE FOOD EVER!!!!!! First and last time we will be ordering food from here. We had ordered BONELESS spare ribs and got ribs with bones! They were so dry, seemed like they were from the day before! Their "pork fried rice" is nothing but white rice covered in soy sauce with small pieces of pork tossed in, it wasn't even fried! I have done take out at this place twice. Both times I received great customer serve and good food. Everyone was friendly and the restaurant was clean. Which is always a plus for me. First time I called in a very simple order since I didn't have a take out menu. They were friendly when I came and picked up my food and even gave me free cheese wontons. Yummy!! I was in the area working Sunday and I decided to do another take out order. Since it had been over 6 months , of course I've lost the take out menu they gave me. I took to Yelp to view their menu. It seems that the menu that was posted to Yelp isn't their menu. Just a tip to other yelpers. If the business hasn't been claimed 9/10 the menu may not be right. Always call the business and ask first if their menu on Yelp is correct before taking food orders from your family :) I got great customer service over the phone and even better service when I came in to place my order. I had to wait 10 mins to get my food which I was trying to avoid due to it taking me almost 15 mins to get there. But the wait wasn't bad. It's a pretty standard wait time for in house order. We were pleasantly surprised by the food at Peking. The egg rolls are some of the best we've ever had and the wonton soup is delicious. The kids always get sesame chicken and it's great, as well. Not sure what the bad reviews are about. I'm originally from a city of over a million population with plenty of Chinese restaurants to choose from. I feel incredibly lucky, having moved to this small town, to have a Chinese restaurant Downtown that cooks to-order in a fire-hot wok and hands it to you across the counter still practically sizzling.
