You know, I'm sitting here at midnight after watching The Crooked Man from the SyFy network (enjoying these low-budget movies because actors put heart and soul into it whether good movie or not and because concepts are sometimes cool) and was thinking about Lotus. To Clarify, Lotus wasn't a character in the movie and was actually the name of the Chinese restaurant. And if there was a Lotus in the movie, I wouldn't be thinking about Lotus--unless he/she was unique and had an interesting viewpoint on life with good intentions but also loved to be bad and was sometimes misunderstood. For The Crooked Man, I gave it a 7.2 but that's on a scale for the SyFy channel--and I gave Lotus a 4.0--which would make it an eight on a 10-point scale. Therefore, the Chinese food was slightly better than the movie. 8.0 is greater than 7.2. For the Chinese food, I liked my son's meal better than my own, but both were good. I got the Scallion Chicken, which I have never had anywhere. The waiter was kind and attentive but he really wanted me to have the Scallion Chicken. I tried to move to General Tso's and explained it was my first time there and should probably go with something I know. He said, "Yes! Most people order Scallion Chicken." Alrighty then. Scallion Chicken it is! What I should have ordered was the Roast Pork Lo Mein, which was very good. But if I did that and we both had Roast Pork Lo Mein, we would only know about the Roast Pork Lo Mein and not about the Scallion Chicken, which could have been General Tso's. We both asked for no vegetables in the Fried Rice but he said it would cost extra because it was already made. So, we just stuck with whatever was in there--eggs and ... scallions. I also ordered Wonton Soup but I just realized that it never arrived, which is the biggest negative because I love Wonton Soup. If someone called me tomorrow and offered me a job to travel across the country rating Wonton Soup, I would take it. It would be a Vlog titled: Man With Spoon. Another odd thing was when they refill your water, they take your glass and come back with it. Scallion Chicken isn't too spicy but it's nice to have water. It's weird when they take it away. You're probably wondering how this was a 4. Good question. But the food was good, the service was friendly (counts the most for me), and the prices were fair. And it was a comfortable dining area. But most importantly, it was fun to have lunch with my son, and the miscommunications and interesting approaches to service felt adventurous to me. If someone were rude, that's a whole different thing, but everyone was friendly, so I'm good with it. I will also stop in one day for a Wonton Soup. read more

Came here with 4 other people on a Sunday evening. We were greeted warmly and seated quickly. Nice and quiet little place that wasn't busy at all. We ordered krab rangoon and chicken teriyaki sticks for appetizers which were both fantastic. Their krab rangoon had a LOT of cream cheese. Most places skimp out and you get mostly just fried wonton with no filling. The teriyaki chicken was crispy and juicy. For entrees we got shrimp mei fun which was good, but a bit salty. We got the crispy scallion chicken which was flavorful, crispy and saucy. We also had the crispy orange beef which I wish was a bit crispier and less saucy, I think too much sauce made it soggy, but had a nice orange flavor and wasn't super spicy. We also had the beef with ginger and oyster sauce which was also salty, but the beef was tender. Last but not least we had shrimp lo mein, which tasted like your standard lo mein. Nice amount of shrimp and even took home leftovers as it was a large portion. A few of us would've loved to upgrade to pork fried rice with our meals instead of the standard white rice, but a $3 upcharge seemed a bit steep. 3 dishes came with soup, and they also give you duck sauce and crispy wontons for the table when first seated. The wontons were oily and tasted a bit stale. With 2 appetizers, 4 entrees and 2 soft drinks our total came to around $110 which isn't too bad. Around $20 a person. I wouldn't say I'm dying to come back to this restaurant, but if you need a Chinese food fix, this is a good place to go. read more

First time trying this place out since there were many good reviews. First the place is very chill and the employees are very friendly and great service ! Went for the lunch special it's from 11am to 4pm. With great plates for $10 and up . The food was delicious and hot I bought the chicken with mixed vegetables and pork fried rice it was huge ! And very tasty it also comes with an egg roll or spring roll drink aren't included. I will definitely recommend this place. It isn't as good as it was before it changed hands. The noodle soup has much less chicken and veggies in it. A To go order now is soggy noodles and overcooked everything else because it's packed up in the hot broth. The broth used to be packed separately from the noodles, veggies, chicken and shrimp. And they don't include the Chinese cracker with it. After enjoying this for 35 plus years, I won't be getting it again. Change is not always a good thing. read more

I have eaten at this restaurant for 30 years. Use to love it. The owner sold it to a relative and since then the food quality has gone down hill. We door dashed last night and it was pretty awful. We got scallion pork, pepper steak, crab Rangoon and egg rolls. The Rangoon were overcooked but tasted ok. The egg rolls were ok, nothing outstanding. The scallion Pork had no breading which we were expecting but more importantly is that the sauce was very thin and watery and tasted like ginger and nothing else. Same situation with the pepper steak. It was fair tasting but the sauce was so thin and tasteless even pouring on soy sauce didn't help. Probably the worst Chinese food ever. read more

It has that smoky char flavor that you can only get from the high flames in a restaurant kitchen. I've enjoyed their double cooked sliced pork and also general tso's chicken. I usually order them spicy and it's always been just right, never too much or too little. Everything looked and tasted freshly made. Even the spring rolls, which usually end up soggy when it's takeout, was still crispy and fresh. I know this restaurant has been around for decades and I wish I had found them sooner. My husband and his partners came here for lunch. I met them here so I could help my husband order. He normally doesn't eat Chinese food, anything with lots of sauce, fried rice (or food) or noodles. I settled on their Cashew Chicken and Fried Rice. I took a few bites and it was good. It was a lunch portion served with two fried chicken drumettes as well as a egg roll for $7.45. Pricing wasn't bad at all. I bought lunch for the team including their drinks and the bill was $42.00. I didn't think the Fried Rice served would be considered fried rice as most people would expect. It was just the rice nothing else. What stood out was their service and professionalism. Our server stayed on top of our drinks and checked in with us a few times to make sure everything was ok. Long time but still good. When we moved to the Lake Norman Area, there were two restaurants owned by the same folks with the same menu and cuisine. We always went to Lotus 28 at I-77 Exit 28 in Cornelius and it was a favorite. They closed about 15 years ago. The parent under the same ownership was Lotus in Mooresville and they have been there for 34 years now so they must be doing something right. It's been on my radar for sometime now to see if it is as good as i remember so went today for lunch. Nice atmosphere with good service although everyone wears multiple hats. The gentleman who brought out my meal, was also the owner, cashier etc but in a small business, you do what it takes. Been there, done that and the effort is appreciated. When I was seated, the server brought my menu and took my beverage order which in my case, is always , Hot Tea. It was very good and I appreciate how it was serverrd. Looking over then menu, I decided on the Double Cooked Hot Spiced Pork Combo which also came with Pork Fried Rice and a Spring Roll. Turned out to be an excellent choice. Have been in a few times, dinner usually places near the 4-star bar and today was no exception. Was glad to get out of the house this evening, had some difficulty down the block but I passed it without incident. Got in, got seated, got a bowl of crispy wontons plus some hot mustard and sweet and sour. Gotta love me the mustard; gently clears a person's head without damaging anything of value up there. Iced water and a pot of hot tea arrived shortly, followed by some shrimp toasts. The portion was smaller than I am used to, but way more shrimpier and super toasty, so yea!. A light smear of mustard and a drop of sweet-n-sour and I've got a party on my palate. The General's chicken is big and moist and breaded and flavory plus a sweet dark sauce on greens in one bowl plus a whole 'nother bowl full of rice. I'm a fan of the big bird chunks, they stay hotter longer and are moister too, and it ought to improve the meat to breading ratio for concerned parties. So another solid performance from Lotus. All in all a solid performance with two minor issues 1) since the locals prefer their food un-zippy my food has less character. Not a big deal since all I have to do is remember to ask for extra spicy but part of the fun of the General's chicken is the big honking re-hydrated red chili peppers swimming in chicken flavored syrup. read more

I absolutely adore Lotus! This place has been around for years & like Lisa, I've been eating here since childhood. The owners couldn't be nicer & wow, service is so quick, whether you're getting it to go or dining in. I crave the house fried rice, which is a huge serving you can eat then & have more for later or the next day. The shrimp & pork are plentiful, mixed in with the rice. The scallion chicken - yum! Chicken pieces are huge & the sauce has a kick to it. Again, the serving is a decent size, so you can have more for later. Their sweet tea is perfect! Their lunch menu is a good sampling of items, which some entrees include the protein, rice & an egg roll. Prices are very reasonable. We've only lived in Mooresville a year and a half but this place is obviously a Mooresville institution in the culinary world. The quality and amount of food that you get is fantastic and it is priced decently even if it's not the cheapest in town. It's always very clean inside and the atmosphere and decor are comforting. My favorite dishes are the almond chicken and sesame chicken. Also, I could probably live on their egg rolls and homemade duck sauce. If you eat in you get chips and duck sauce.
