It all started with missing white rice. I had been working all day and hadn't consumed Chinese food in about a year. I love Chinese food but I have been paying off debt like Al Capone wanted his loan-shark money back, which led to me going from 27.3k to currently 1.8k on my Discover within a year. This background is to let you know why I haven't been eating a lot of Chinese food. It has nothing to do with sodium. But this is about wonton soup, sesame chicken, lo mein, white rice, and a drunk guy (not me). All of the food items listed above were solid. And they are always solid across the board. I wouldn't put this restaurant as #1 for any of those individual items in Lake Norman but I do put them #1 for all food as a whole. In other words, Jin Jin has the best wonton soup but you only get four wontons and they aren't as good at other stuff, and it just doesn't seem as clean--Huang's Chef is impeccably clean. Huang's China Bistro in Cornelius has the best sesame chicken but their lo mein and wonton soup aren't quite as good (still very good though). Lotus on River Hwy (Rt 150) has the best lo mein but not quite as good on the other stuff (but still very good). Huang's Chef (Mooresville) is a solid 9.0 across the board so it's where I order most. But the time prior to this one, I drove all the way to Huntersville and they forgot my white rice. This isn't a major issue but it kind of does ruin the experience after spending $30 for one person on dinner. Fortunately, they gave me a free pint of wonton soup the next time I went in. I was so excited to eat their food again that I ordered when driving by and had to wait. While outside and thinking I was alone on the strip-mall sidewalk, I practiced pronouncing "Huang's Chef." In order to do it, you need to inhale 5% on the "Huah" sound and exhale 95% on the "Wang" sound. I was getting good at it and repeating, "Huah-Wang's Chef ... Huah-Wang's Chef" while pacing, but a dude from from Marty's Bar popped out to smoke a cigarette and looked at me funny. "Just practicing," I said while nodding to indicate all was normal. "For what?" he laughed. I could tell he was one of those friendly drunk guys. "Huah-Wang's Chef." He walked over to cut the distance between us in half and laughed while taking a drag of his cigarette. Tall and skinny guy mid-60s with scruff and loose clothes that fit his personality. "Huah-Wong's Chef," he said. "No," I corrected. "It's Wang." "No it ain't," he cackled. "It's Wong." "That would be the Cantonese version. That's not correct." "I don't eat cantaloupes." He just started cracked up at his own joke, which wasn't funny, but then funny because of how much he enjoyed it. Then he continued, "What if we just put it together and start our own Chinese restaurant called Wang-Wong!" Bar guys always talk about things like this but know they will never follow through, and I didn't want to start a Wang-Wong Chinese restaurant with a scruffy-looking drunk guy. I had the perfect out anyway because Huang's Chef told me 15 minutes and it was about that time. "Good to meet you, but I have to go get my food now at Huah-WANG'S Chef." "Wong!" he cackled again as I walked away. Anyway, I definitely recommend Huang's Chef. It's a good price with solid portions and quality taste across the board. The restaurant itself is one of the cleanest Chinese restaurants I have ever seen, which is always a good sign. Definitely recommended. read more

This is the best Chinese takeout in the Mooresville area in my humble opinion. We get takeout from here at least once a month. I love the Hot and Sour soup and the General Tso's Chicken. We also regularly get the Scallion Chicken and the Lo Mein (pork or chicken) and all sorts of Fried Rice. Everything we get is great! To check the box I will say the service is great but we only get takeout so ... we pay, we take, good job. One not I would add is that the fried rice tends to be a little dry and doesn't "stick" very well. read more

Me and my fiancé went to Huang's Chef restaurant last week and we weren't impressed at all, we sat down and it took 10 minutes or more for someone to take our drink order, the waiter could hardly speak English and was hard to understand. The food we both had was Luke warm and not very hot, so we weren't sure if it was fixed fresh or not? We were very disappointed after driving for a long time to get to this restaurant. Please serve hot and fresh food in the future. We won't be back, not impressed. This is my personal opinion. read more

We ordered dinner tonight from Huang Chef and normally they are AMAZING, but today my wife ordered Mongolian Chicken and got 80% onions. This picture is after she pulled all the chicken out, but you should be able to get a feel for the ratio of Chicken to Onions based on what's left in the bowl. I have been going here for years, last week I went for lunch and the my meal had 2 pieces of chicken. Good thing I wasn't too hungry. Tonight I ordered hibachi chicken, egg drop soup, wonton soup, and an egg roll - 27.00!! But here is why I will never go back and may call the health department. (1) I got home (down the road) all the food was "ice cold ". The soup like it came from the fridge. The chicken didn't taste right, didn't look right, and ice cold. Even the egg roll was cold.. I happened to notice roaches by the area you pick up your food.. They have no help, a little boy who is very mature and god bless his soul for helping his family, but he is maybe 12 years old waiting tables, taking orders, checking out people. That should not be. Stay away , the place had it day but no more! Update!!! It's been 40 minutes that the few pieces I did try to eat, and I am literally sick as dog, massive stomach ache and bathroom trips. Just went by to get some soup and lo mein tonight. I have a hard time finding a good Chinese restaurant, but I looked up the best lo mein in Mooresville and this was the first one that was suggested. The atmosphere is extremely nice compared to other Chinese restaurants/takeout and was very welcoming. The service was quick, and once I got home to try everything I was very very impressed. This place has become our go to for Chinese food. It's close by, the food is consistently good service is friendly and quick and the prices are reasonable. The dining room looks spacious and enough seating for big parties however we have never eaten there, it's always been take out. Really good Chinese cuisine in a nice setting. They have great lunch specials that are very reasonably priced and it is honestly a lot of food. On our visit, we had Mushroom Chicken and Orange Chicken. The mushroom chicken was a little light on flavor and the chicken did have chewy pieces, but still a good dish. My son enjoyed the Orange chicken and said it was spicy. He ordered the soup as his side dish, which he enjoyed and I ordered the salad with ginger dressing. We've eaten here before and liked the food but our recent visit was disappointing. The egg rolls were good but the sauce for my Egg Foo Young was extremely salty. The Chicken Chow Mein was good. The forks and knives on the table were dirty and needed to be wiped clean. The biggest turn-off was the restaurant itself - it needs a major overhaul. The vinyl seats were cracked, the ceiling tiles were stained and we sat in a window seat and although the shades were drawn, the air conditioning was no match for the heat coming from outside. The lower portion of the window was painted black and the paint was peeling. There was one woman (I think she was the owner) who handled all of the service by herself and did a good job. read more

Absolutely disgusting food after a very long wait. I love Chinese food and always look forward to an elegant mix of spices and sauces, giving gentle hints to the main star which is the meats and vegetables. They flipped flipped this one and miserably failed. The sauce hid all aspects of the flavor of the meat and vegetables. What is supposed to be the side star, an egg roll, was soggy and not crisp. My spouse and I love this place. It's not as close as many Chinese restaurants in the area, but it's well worth driving a few extra miles. I love the hot and sour soup and mu shu pork. My spouse always gets egg fu yung and some dishes loaded with garlic sauce. The restaurant is pretty good about making food to order, so even if something is not on the menu, you can ask them for it (my spouse does that all the time), and they always come through. Note: they get huge kudos for the way they handled the restaurant shut-down during the worst of the COVID pandemic. They had a sophisticated way of taking your order and leaving your food in bags outside the door. It was so terrific having our favorite Chinese restaurant available during the restaurant shut-down. read more
