The lady who always helps me is so polite and they always get my order right. The food is delicious!! A really tasty traditional American style Chinese restaurant experience. With a nice blend of American style and more authentic specialties, Peking Gourmet was just the right place to stop. We got the Vegetable and Bean Curd soup, the portion was generous, the veggies and tofu were fresh and the broth was spot on delicious. While it said it was for "two", we shared it among three people and even after seconds there was some left. The shrimp spring rolls were light and the shrimp tasted very fresh and tender. Buddah's delight featured crispy vegetables, tasty bean curd and a nice brown sauce. Kung Pao shrimp featured fresh shrimp that were not breaded -- a pleasant surprise. The service was excellent and the young waitress had a ready smile and did her job very well. We've eaten Chinese in many places, many more "authentic" or trendier, but I wouldn't hesitate to come back to Peking Gourmet next time we are in Frederick -- for a perfect just off the highway dinner. read more

Having recently moved to Frederick, I am exploring restaurants to find my new favorites. Based on ranking and 1st few reviews I read, started with a Peking Gourmet carryout order. Have to say I was disappointed. Peking Gourmet chicken was greasy & had little flavor...even though I asked them to make it spicy. Tried to doctor it up with soy sauce & red chili sauce. Not much better. Pork fried rice again had little flavor, many of the chunks of pork were fatty and tough. Egg roll was decent, but still just okay...although somone else posted they are the best egg rolls on Frederick. On to the next spot...not hitting this one again. read more

I have ordered from this place a about 10 times and a couple times it was ok. The last time I ordered from there was over a year or more ago and my food was terrible. We decided to give it another shot last night and it was by far the worst experience yet. The MooGooGaiPan was bland and had no flavor. The Cashew Chicken was drowning in burnt red sauce. The sweet and sour chicken was ok and the shrimp lo mein was ok. The lady who took my order seemed pleasant and easy to understand but the delivery driver....He told me my tip was not enough for the distance he had to drive to deliver my food and was very rude. I called from this place for a delivery order. Their delivery drivers are rude, unprofessional and have no form of customer service. If delivering food in a downtown area is to stressful for your business, specifically their employees. Than they shouldn't deliver here, nor yell at a paying customer because parking was to stressful for them. I told them in advance they'd need to call me when here and I'll come to the door. Whether I was down there as they pulled up or once you made it to my door shouldn't matter. Nor should you yell at me because your incompetent and can't handle downtown Frederick traffic. To make it worse, their general tos chicken was nasty, their sauce had a poor taste to it, along with the rice. Five stars for the Szechuan wontons alone! Spectacular! I normally love tofu but their tofu is over-fried and overly sweet in most dishes, but those wontons make up for everything! A good meal in and of themselves! And, no, they're not vegetarian (as my tofu comment might suggest). read more

Stopped in for a lunch special of general tso's chicken and took it to go. It was a generous portion with huge pieces of chicken. However, the chicken wasn't cleaned properly. At first I thought they gave me wings or something by mistake because there was so much gristle and cartilage in the first piece of chicken I tried to eat. Usually excellent Chinese food. The hot and sour soup is especially good as is the kung pao chicken. They do not use MSG and are willing to add a few more vegetables or omit an ingredient if you request it. I've been going to Peking Gourmet since my days at Hood College in the late 90's and have always been a fan of the restaurant. The owners are absolute dolls, I love their friendly attitude and service, they are pleasant and the food comes quickly and is served hot. I'm wondering if over the years they've changed chefs from time to time, because the food has not always been consistent which is why I'm giving them 4 stars instead of 5. The last time I was there it was delicious and fresh, the time before that, not so much. Usually I order the Fried Chicken Wing appetizer, 6 wings for only $4.25 and they come tasty and sizzling hot! 5 stars for just the Chicken Wings! And the Kung Pao chicken is excellent as is the Wonton Soup, those are my top 3 picks at Peking Gourmet. I'm not however, a huge fan of the Pad Thai or the Taiwanese or Singapore Rice Noodles, they're super oily and just...tasteless. Price-wise Peking Gourmet is kind to your wallet as well, very competitive prices and offering lunch specials that come with a soup or egg roll, entree and rice for under $7?! Count me in! Overall I'd say it's definitely worth one's time to check out this restaurant, one of the best Chinese places in Frederick. read more

Lots of friends feel this is the best Chinese restaurant in Frederick and I have to agree. My Sesame Tofu was amazing! The sauce was perfect!! Mom had Shrimp Chow Mein which was loaded with shrimp and the Hunan Tofu was very nicely spicy. We all had the egg drop soup which was very hot and the Crab Rangoon was delicious. It's a very homey place. The family of servers are warm and friendly without being overly eager. It really feels like a "locals" place, very comfortable. The hot towels, fortune cookies, and almond cookies at the end of the meal were a very nice touch. Everything was perfect. We had a very nice meal, all for under $50.00 for 3 people with soup and appetizers. I will return. Peking Gourmet is now my Chinese restaurant of choice. read more

Went on my birthday, Worst birthday meal ever. I have no idea what the people that gave this terrible Chinese restaurant a 5 star ate. But let me start from the terrible service. The old man had attitude like we were homeless people coming from the street and he was giving us free food. My wife ask if she could have shrimp in her fried rice that came with her sweet and sour chicken and she would pay the difference. He instructed her with a shitty tone that she would have to order the shrimp fried rice meal to get shrimp in her rice. I ordered the Peking duck and it was the worse duck I have ever had in my life. With a place with the name of Peking in it is absolutely ridiculous. I've had better duck at a Chinese buffet. And they have the nerve to charge 28$ for the duck. So, this place is very cute and the interior is very welcoming. The service is the exact opposite. My family and I came here for an early dinner and our server was just overall rude and short with us. My fiancé asked to add onions to his dish and the server made it seem as if it was such an inconvenience. I realize there was a language barrier and we may not have much to talk about, but manners would be awesome. Our server would bring our food and just dip off like it was a relay race. We asked for straws for our drinks and he seemed irritated by that as well. The food was really good, but all the great food in the world doesn't make up for poor, rude service. My takeaways? I'm not a guy who goes easy on Chinese restaurants. The way I see it, there are usually several within a short driving distance of each other so competition is fierce, and that should drive out the poor performers. So when I showed up to this restaurant to look at the menu and order carry out to bring to my family, and I saw how busy the shopping center was, I assumed this would be a high-performing restaurant. I was very wrong. I ordered sesame chicken with white meat( an upgrade not listed on the menu), vegetarian lo mein, and steamed dumplings. To get to the point, the sesame chicken was overcooked, and dried out. It had quite a lot of broccoli with it, but that was so overcooked the florets were just sodden greenish lumps floating in an overly sweet sauce. The Lo Mein was overcooked with noodles so squishy they fell through the tines of your fork. The sauce tasted like catsup. And as with the other dishes, the vegetables were cooked beyond belief. Finally the ultimate insult, dumplings so overcooked and squishy that the dough ripped off and stuck to your fingers when you picked them up. This meal cost $28 but I've had better quality Chinese at one of those strap on the feed bag buffets where you pay $10 for as much as you can hold. I should've known better because at 7 o'clock on a weekday only one table was occupied, and I saw only one other carry out customer. I also noticed that there were boxes of supplies stacked in the dining room. There's no excuse for that. My recommendation is to give this restaurant a wide berth. read more

My family and I went to Frederick to visit family and we were craving Chinese food. We went here, because it had one dollar sign and decent reviews. At the end of our meal, we were all very disappointed. The egg rolls and spring rolls were extremely bland, and the sweet and sour chicken, which is usually my favorite, I refused to eat. PEANUT ALLERGY ALERT. If you have a peanut allergy DO NOT EAT HERE. Twice now I have had a severe allergic reaction after one bite of food. I am always weary of peanut stuff with Chinese restaurants (if you have the allergy you understand the egg roll Russian roulette game) last time my co workers ordered I got Hunan chicken took one bite had a bad reaction- I let it go because I did not specify. This time I called the order in and stressed peanut allergy to make sure they cleaned their pan before they cooked my food. Food came, took ONE BITE, sitting here with swollen lips, a swollen itchy tongue, hives all over and struggling to stay awake because I had to take Benadryl. NEVER AGAIN. read more

i purchased a Shrimp Lomein order yesterday, March 7, 2015 from the Peking Gourmet restaurant in the Evergreen Shopping Center in Frederick, MD. It was the worst order I have ever tasted from an Asian restaurant!!The food tasted as if it was spoiled or left over from a previous week. The Lomein tasted spoiled and I would have taken it back to them but it was too far from my home. Do not go to this Restaurant. It is awful!! This is my very favorite Chinese around! The prices are very reasonable and portions generous. The staff is very friendly and they always treat you great from the minute you walk in to the time you leave and they always remember you when you return again. I usually always get the Peking Duck and Spicy Wonton. The Peking Duck is the best value for the money anywhere and it is always fresh and crispy. Everything on the menu here is great as well. I like it when you finish your meal they give you a hot handtowel to wipe your hands with, very refreshing. You also get a delicious almond cookie as well. Keep up the great work! Peking Gourmet has been one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in the Frederick area for years, however, lately the food is not what it used to be. The quality is not as good and the beef and chicken has had a lot of gristle. The owners are wonderful people and part of the charm is the kindness. **The best Chines in Frederick!** Peking Gourmet (PG) serves up the best Kung-Pao chicken north of D.C., IMO! I always get the Kong Pao chicken because it's sooo good. The dish is made with a sweet-spicy brown sauce, with chicken, peanuts; that has a little heat, but certainly not overwhelming. Spring onions round out this dish to confirm that PG serves the best Kung Pao in the area. The egg rolls are also excellent--stuffed full of meat and vegetables, served golden-brown. As most other Chinese restaurants are shrinking the size of their egg rolls, PG serves the large old school egg roll we all grew up with. From what I can tell, all of their dishes look really good. I've tried the crispy beef; it too was excellent. Lastly, if you eat-in during dinner hours, you get served a piping hot towel to refresh yourself at the end of the meal. PG is located in a nondescript (Evergreen Square) shopping center on Buckeystown Pike, across from Checkers hamburger joint. PG does look like much, but it's the best Chinese in Frederick. read more
