Asian Bistro is my favorite place to get some Chinese food or Sushi. A gem compared to other restaurants in New Market, or even Mount Airy. Their food quality is consistent and take-out is a must. Dine-in is an option too but it is a small restaurant with limited staff. Though it is clean, and efficient! Food comes out quick. Only gripe is I wish I could order meal combos instead of multiple full size meals for $10 a pop. I've been going here for six years, and I hope it is around forever! read more

We usually order takeout because we found this place during COVID when you couldn't sit inside due to the small dining area, but now that the dining area is fully open it's really nice to dine in, too! Fried Pork Dumplings are no longer amazing as they were years ago. Frozen? thawed, fried as any other shop in town, about the same as Wegman's taste wise. They neither taste like pork or chicken, not sure what they taste like?, I suppose if you've never experienced eating Dim Sum, you might not know the difference, but? Charming restaurant in New Market. Our lunch was fantastic from soup to entrée. We had sesame chicken, spring rolls, egg drop soup, shrimp with string beans and miso soup for lunch. I ordered online using the Asian bistro website and ordered 3 avocado rolls off the vegetable roll menu. When I opened the bag when I got home I received 3 mounds of avocado wrapped in seaweed wraps like ice cream cones. All I wanted was normal sushi which is what it seems like you're ordering when you click the option on the menu and this is how every other restaurant on the planet serves it. I called the store and was told that the website automatically selects the hand roll option and if I want the normal sushi version you have to request that in the comments. Who in the world would ever remotely know that. The person over the phone, although they were nice they just told me to order correctly next time when they already admitted it was a menu error. Did not offer to remake my order which I was willing to drive another 30 min roundtrip for. I don't blame the person over the phone cause I know they were young and they also had someone behind them on the call who was obviously management say "it was not my fault, online order". If it's a menu problem on your end it is not my responsibility to know to order correctly when something as basic as an "avocado roll" should come normally regardless. The fact that 3 of these cones cost 17 dollars drives me up the wall when we paid 13 for a chicken and broccoli. Never ordering from here again and if you want to order and avocado roll on line, please remember the restaurant expects you to read their mind and order correctly. read more

It's nice to see another sushi option in the area. Walking in its a small place but with nice decor. Prompt and friendly service. Many options on the menu with Sushi, Chinese, and Thai. We opted to sit at the sushi bar. Small but quaint. We ordered some drinks and 2 rolls and were pleasantly surprised with a free appetizer that looked amazing and tasted equally as good. Due to Covid, we took a carry-out. 2 items - teriyaki chicken from lunch menu & Veggie Fried rice. The presentation of the food was good, there are good amount of vegetables in the Teriyaki chicken, not a lot of dripping oil in the fried rice but there is no flavor at all. The flavor of the food was very good. The service was polite and quick. But....the temperature of the food was warm at best! There isn't much ambiance as this place is in a stripmall. There are only about 6 tables and it appeared the majority of the business is take-out. They offer a full menu, which was good. Nice clean restaurant. I'd never been here. I asked the waiter what choice he recommended for seafood on the Bento box. He said salmon. Terrible. Dried up. I could barely eat any of it. Why tell somebody that when it's not a good choice? Trying to get rid of it??? Not once did he check and ask if everything was ok. A different person picked up my plate and I told her that it was very dry. She said, "oh" kind of chuckled, but did nothing. Not real happy dropping 11 for that. 4 for carry out and 3.5 for dine in. We get carry out here at least once a month and it's by far the best carry out Chinese food. The dishes are consistently tasty and unlike most Chinese carry out places, each dish tastes different and it doesn't all taste the same. Favorites being pineapple fried rice, vegetable lomein and orange chicken...these 3 dishes are more than enough for 2 people!! Dine in wise the service was extremely slow even though it wasn't packed. We came for sushi which is actually good but the experience was disappointing. First of all, I think it's rude and unprofessional to bring out people's meals at different times...is the goal here to watch the other person eat? If you have 1 order of sushi ready and not the other then just don't bring it out at all or if it's taking a really long time like it did for us, then offer a free egg roll or something to acknowledge the delay. The same thing happened to the table next to us, one person got their sweet and sour chicken and everyone just sat awkwardly waiting for the rest of the sushi dishes. Another annoyance was the amount of fish they used...the spicy salmon, although the good, was 90% tempura flakes and 10% fish, same with the Philly roll which had a sad amount of fish. read more

for the amount of food and price you get for a lunch maki special, totally 3.5-4 stars (we got two 3-maki lunch specials plus one special roll for ~$36 not including tax and tip) (oh and they have lunch specials on the weekends!!!). For other occasions, not so sure, 3 stars? The reason?... Typically I'd say tuna, salmon, and yellowtail maki rolls, simple rolls with no additional fan fair, are solid at most sushi places. I was not just not impressed with their tuna nor salmon, but actually disappointed. They seem to be bland and lacked the expected flavor, very bland. It didn't taste not fresh, so I think it was the fish itself. I was impressed with their yellowtail (ok so this one is wrapped with thinly sliced scallions, but it usually does and that def adds so much to it!). So what can I say, off day for salmon and tuna? Weird huh, first time I encountered that. We also got spicy yellowtail, spicy crab with cucumber, and eel with avocado. Those 3 were delicious as expected. The additional roll we got was one of their special roll, bonsai tree. I do have to say, I liked their bonsai roll A LOT.. that was tasty one of the plate for sure! I know it's not summer, but I still enjoyed the refreshing combination. And I have to say, the thinly sliced cucumber that the roll was wrapped with was key to making this roll special. If it was a sliced a little thicker, it definitely wouldn't be as good. Definitely added texture, crunch, and delicateness to the maki roll ensemble. Hats down to the one who came up with this or stuck to the guns and said no to just hollowing out a cucumber and instead taking the time to thinly slice it (although hollowing out may take more work... not sure what tools they have...)! Regardless, we definitely enjoyed the lunch =). It hit the spot for our affordable sushi craving and if we were in the area again, I'd give it another try =). read more

We just had carry-out last night. We moved a few months ago from the Bay Area (Asian-food-of-all-types mecca) and had wanted to try this place. It was delicious. We had the Szechuan shrimp (my favorite of everything), lo mein (kids loved it), orange chicken, pad Thai (different from what I've had before but very good), and the pineapple fried rice (this one we wouldn't get again, it was just okay). We were craving sushi and ordered a couple rolls off their menu. We grabbed a beef and broccoli, lo mien, and some egg rolls. Everything was less then desirable. Rolls were warm and bland, lo mien tasted burnt and egg rolls were old. Beef and broccoli was decent. We were super bummed, especially because this isn't the cheapest Asian food around. My daughters and I frequent Asian Bistro once to twice a month. Their options for Sushi are exceptional. I also love their appetizers and always have options for my friends who do not enjoy sushi as much as I do. The staff is always super friendly and attentive.
