While I love the decor of this restaurant that's where the love ends. The service was mediocre, and lacked any sort of friendliness. The attempted to over charge on items stating that the menu hasn't been up dated yet( that's a big hell no from me)! And the food was horrible. The beef on a stick was basically beef jerky, the pepper steak lacked flavor except an extreme amount of salt. The egg roll was ok as was the rice. My wife and I remember years ago when Peking was well known in the area as the best Chinese restaurant. Over the years, the quality has been hit and miss. However, after the meal we just had there today, I believe the old magic is back!!! Excellent eggrolls, delicious almond chicken and outstanding shrimp egg foo young tasted just like we remember. Service was excellent and new owner Chad stopped by our table to check on us. Dining area is nice and big, you don't feel packed in. They also have their own delivery service , not just Door Dash. Had a wonderful lunch today at Peking in Muscatine with my husband, daughter, and grandsons. We were so impressed with the food under the new ownership--Chad has truly brought the heart and soul back to this longtime local favorite. My daughter, who hadn't heard that ownership had changed, took one bite and immediately said, "This tastes just like it used to when!" We enjoyed the sizzling rice soup, egg rolls, crab Rangoon, hot and spicy chicken, Mongolian beef, and sweet and sour chicken--and every dish was flavorful, fresh, and cooked to perfection. She told Chad that growing up, this was her favorite place to eat--and now, even though she lives nearly an hour away, she said she'll gladly make the trip back just for this food. That says it all. So happy to see Peking thriving again. If you haven't been in a while, it's definitely worth a visit. Have been dining there many years but will never return. Drove down from Quad Cities for lunch. Place was empty which was not a good sign. Lunch prices were so high it was insulting. Served tea in a dirty pot. Sizzling rice soup had no sizzle. Sweet sour sauce had no taste only bright red goop. Food was abysmal, nothing like it was and service was slow and untrained. decided to give this place another shot....I shouldn't have. Another Friday night, prime dinner time, and only 6 tables. The food was "OK"...the service was terrible. Waitress comes over to take my order and I tell her, she's carrying pad and pen....3 minutes later she comes back and asks me again what it was I ordered?....uhm...try writing it down maybe?.....brings me my egg roll appetizer, minus a plate to eat them on, and less than 3 minutes later, only into my first half of the first egg roll, she brings my entire entree. She brings me a bowl of rice, my plate of garlic chicken, and no plate to eat it on! Had to request that as well.....then she disappears for the rest of my meal. No checking in to see if my food is OK, no asking to see if my drink needed refilled, not until I had finished and she finally shows up and asked if I need anything else?....this lady only had ONE other table she was working with. When I went up to the counter to pay, the kid working the cash register asked how was everything? Food was ok...the service...not so much....told him everything that happened and he seemed to care less. Absolutely the worst Chinese restaurant I have ever been to, food was horrible, food was brought to my table that I didn't ask for and I was charged for it, food tasted like grease hadn't been changed in months. The iced tea tasted bad like it was made with pond water, the waitress was friendly but she left at the end of her shift and no one took over when she left so I couldn't even complain to anyone. I left 3/4 of my food on the table and the cashier Got offended when I told her I didn't want the leftovers and that I wouldn't feed that shit to my dogs. 100% avoid this place. read more

It's a different take on your average Chinese food. It is really good and their Mongolian beef is my favorite anywhere. The only downside in my opinion is It seems like the portions and sizes on everything have shrunk while the prices have gone way up. I would give negative stars if it were an option. We ordered sweet and sour chicken, fried rice, chicken lo mien, egg rolls and crab Rangoon. It was $55 and change. It was ALL...I mean ...ALL disgusting! The sweet and sour chicken was soggy and gross tasting. The "sweet and sour sauce" was more like fluorescent red jelly. The fried was was literally just white rice with some scrambled egg in it. The chicken in the lo mien was grey, fatty and slimy. The sauce it was in was disgusting, fatty sludge. The egg rolls and crab Rangoon were awe filling as well. I cannot believe for a second that any positive reviews for this place are legit. Obviously standards are pretty low in Muscatine otherwise! On a recent visit to Muscatine, we took Ms T's mother to dinner at Peking Chinese. This is a long time, iconic establishment. I lived in Muscatine from 1975 through 1980. We moved away and then back from 1985 though 1994. During those years we ate here regularly. Other Asian restaurants came and went (we loved M&H when it was in business, operated by some Vietnamese friends, serving home cookin') but the Peking has survived and seems to be still doing well after at least 35 years. Knowing that all of our Chinese food is pretty Americanized, I recall that my first exposure to Chinese food was Cantonese. It seems that at one time this style dominated American Chinese restaurants. Then came the appearance in the mid 1970's of northern China style. Peking was one of those and became very popular, serving richer dishes than Cantonese, not so much of what we called wallpaper paste sauces (moo goo gai pan, with emphasis on the goo). Later we all came to enjoy Hunan, Szechuan, Mongolian and other rich and spicy styles, but Peking has remained pretty true to its roots. I greatly preferred Peking style food to Cantonese, but in the same way have moved on to prefer Hunan and Szechuan for the more interesting flavors and the spicy heat, so it is hard for me to rate Peking now. Let's face it, Muscatine is not New York City or San Francisco. You don't expect world class Asian food of any style here. But this is not a bad place to find in a small mid-western town, it is just not the best Chinese food anywhere. It is a little boring. Everything is reasonably good, just not exciting. I will say that when I go with Ms T and her mother, I have to avoid ordering spicy dishes, which may be somewhat better. However, I recall a few years ago when I dared them to make it too hot for me (something you should never do in Asian or Indian restaurants) and it was still without any heat. All that aside, the following must be said. They have a huge menu and they serve enormous portions for reasonable prices. If you go for dinner with three people and order some appetizers and three dishes you will take home enough food for 4-6 more reasonably portioned meals. Honestly, one dinner will serve three people who don't consume unreasonable quantities of food. They are the largest portions I have ever seen in an Asian restaurant. I am not going to go into the specific dishes that we ordered. The details are immaterial, and you will try what you like from the extensive menu. I will say that the pot stickers are also a very large order of six pieces and are each the size of 2 or 3 that you would get elsewhere. The hot and sour soup is exactly as it was 30 years ago. It is both hot and sour, which is not true many places. You probably won't be wowed here if you have much experience of Asian restaurants but you won't go away hungry! If you prefer Northern style Chinese you may find this is your place. read more

So disappointed in my meal. Sweet N Sour Chicken was extremely dry meat. Paid extra to get fried rice....only the eggs were fried. The rice was whiter than a piece of paper. We ordered (and paid extra) for two orders of FRIED rice. We ordered carryout...had we dined in, we certainly would have walked out without eating our meals. My childhood best friend's mum worked here and sometimes would cook up some of the amazing dishes when we watched Goonies or Flowers in the Attic or played original Nintendo or jumped on trampoline, what a treat and how classy! (Seriously, her mum would make orange chicken, egg rolls, wontons, and/or egg drop soup for our lunch or snacks how lucky was I?) Anyways... The price, ambiance, and service are out of this world. My family would go here for dinners and everyone in our party was estactic with the experience and pleasantly stuffed. There should be more places like Peking where you are lucky enough to pay very little to be treated like royalty and eat an amazing meal surrounded by gorgeous decor. I asked her for another drink and she replied with, "I'm bringing out your food..." When we were paying, she literally stared over my shoulder as I did the tip. Plus, there was no option to choose your own amount. The food was just, wow. The eggrolls tasted like ground beef tubes. The iced tea was weirdly cloudy and tasted like something not so good. Regardless, that (and the balance of "Chinese" fare) is what we, as Americans, have come to expect of our Chinese food. The Peking is no different. Best dishes: Mongolian Beef, Hot and Spicy Chicken or Shrimp, Sweet Lovers, Chung King Pork, Princess Prawns, Beef/CHicken Foo Young, Beef and Peapods, Cashew Chicken, Sesame Chicken, Apps are amazing - pot stickers, crab rangoons... and the best egg rolls on the planet... PERIOD. I've been to Chinese restaurants all over the country, and I haven't found one that beats it yet! Soups are excellent as well, rice is perfectly cooked too. Lunch specials are 2 dishes and an egg roll for $8... can't beat that. If you get an appetizer too, 1 special is enough for 2 people. Dinner portions cost more, but you get more of course... they're big, definitely enough for 2. Service is always outstanding, owners are super nice, hard working people. After eating here for about 30 years, I cannot recall one bad meal, ever. That says a lot. read more

we just visited "peking" last night and had one great experience. we were seated promptly and had two waitresses come out to greet us. our waitress "summer" was excellent and was training a newer waitress. they both made the visit enjoyable. drinks were prompt and the food appetizers were quick to follow. we tried the crab rangoons & egg rolls. they were delicious. we had the hot/ spicy beef for our main entree' and was excellent. both waitresses checked on us frequently and in the middle asked how we liked everything. we will definitely return! read more

Been a Peking regular for many many years. It is my go to for Chinese. Best in town for sure. We usually get the dinner for 2 which really serves 4 with some leftover usually. Their sizzling rice soup is amazing but I have noticed the portion size & quality has gone down over the years. The egg rolls are the only ones I'll eat from anywhere but they're usually very oily. The Mongolian beef is the best I've ever had as well as the sweet & sour chicken however we ask for the sauce on the side or it comes & the chicken is soggy. Their hot tea is great too!
