2024 take out -Shredded hot and sour potatoes, spicy mapo tofu with ground pork, eggplant in brown sauce and cucumber with garlic
    Erica L.

Happy Chinese New Year 2024! I ordered after work for take home and they were timely before the rush. This will be another great option for take out after work to grab. I was excited they had more traditional options instead of the Americanized dishes. We tried shredded hot and sour potatoes, spicy mapo tofu with ground pork, eggplant potatoes green peppers in brown sauce, and cucumber with garlic. All were pretty tasty. Excited to try their other dishes like dandan noodles, sliced beef in hot chili oil, and fried beef with cumin. Atmosphere seems great but I haven't dined in yet. Hopefully we can at some point and try some hot pots.

I love love love Sichuan cuisine, so imagine how excited I was for this place to pop up! Known for bold flavors and of course the use of szechuan peppercorns, Sichuan cuisine originates from the Sichuan Province of southwestern China. So basically, it's spicy and delicious! The best part about Taste Place is that their menu is packed with authentic signature dishes, as well as "American Chinese" favorites. I went here for lunch and ordered the Wontons in chili oil, the spicy mapo tofu and ground pork, and the cucumbers with minced garlic. Everything was delicious and drool-worthy. The tofu was perfectly cooked with a vibrant and spicy sauce that now lives in my head rent-free, the cucumber was the perfect fresh bite between all the savory goodness. The atmosphere here is also awesome, cozy and clean. The service was great too! I'm very excited to return and try the hotpot!

I recently ordered take out from Taste Place after hearing all the great reviews. The order was super quick and reasonably priced. The crab Rangoon was delicious! I also ordered Sesame Chicken, which was very good but had a slightly different sauce than I've had before. I definitely plan to order again and try more of their dishes!

Let me start by saying this is one of the first Asian restaurants I've been to that if you ask for extra extra spicy, you better mean it! I appreciate that when we said we wanted it as spicy as possible, they almost made us regret those words! That, out of the way, this is the best Asian food in the area! The Mongolian beef is immediately one of my favorite dishes I've had in Iowa. The spicy chicken was so perfectly crispy, and the beef was just pure deliciousness! The restaurant is smaller but doesn't feel crowded. The food all came out fast, especially the appetizers, which I'll admit were a bit lackluster compared to the main dishes. I'll avoid the dumplings in the future, but the pot stickers were decent. I won't be coming for the appetizers though because oh my those main dishes are amazing

Cashew Chicken with egg rolls and KILLER crabmeat/ cream cheese wontons omg better than YEN Chings Trust me I'm a prowonton inspector.

Very good food, menu definitely goes outside Americanized Chinese food. I was especially impressed with the eggplant dish.

The hot and sour soup is an absolute must. There is no comparable Chinese restaurant within 50 miles, best Chinese food I've ever had!

Very little rice in shrimp fried rice. Big hunks of veggies and just a little egg. No soy sauce or fortune cookies. No chop sticks either

When asked, "what's in this tofu dish?, he said, "tofu". My wife asked if it had vegetables and he said he didn't know and made some odd comment on how expensive tofu was as though that made a difference in the recipe. At one point he scoffed and said something like, "the picture shows...". We had so-so beef with scallions and ginger and the green beans. Both were just average. We ordered pot stickers before all the questions and they arrived in time for dessert. My wife also has a Diet Coke which the waiter never offered to refill.

They have the cool round tables that can fit up to 10 or more people for Chinese New Year which is awesome. You can absolutely come here for solid American Chinese classics (yes, the orange chicken is good!). But if you're ready to challenge your taste buds a little--or want to impress your Chinese foodie friend--here's what I recommend: 重庆辣子鸡 (Chongqing Spicy Crispy Chicken) Crispy, dry-fried chicken buried in a mountain of dried chilies. Numbing, salty, and packed with wok hei. A must if you're serious about spice. 四川烤鱼 (Whole Fish with Szechuan Sauce) Whole tilapia swimming in bold, peppery sauce. Flaky, flavorful, and unapologetically spicy. This one earns respect. 干煸包菜 (Stir-Fried Cabbage with Hot Pepper) Don't underestimate this dish--it's got deep wok flavor, a little heat, and balances out the heavier mains perfectly. 担担面 (Dan Dan Noodles) Nutty, garlicky, and just the right amount of heat. Toss them well and you'll see why they're a classic. Yes, it's a bit oily--that's part of the deal with traditional Szechuan. But the flavor payoff is so worth it. Portions are generous, and the spice is real (so come prepared). Pro tip: This is what my Chinese dad would order. And if you're ready to go beyond orange chicken, you just might find your new favorite here too.
