This is one of the truly fantastic restaurants in Nashville. Everything was top notch! I heard about the restaurant from the show "Somebody Feed Phil" on Netflix. I gotta say...Phil knows his food! When I looked up information about the restaurant, the atmosphere was described as southern gothic. I did not know what that meant. As I sat down and looked around, I instantly understood what southern gothic meant. And no, I can't explain it. Some things just have to be experienced! The food was fantastic. We had oysters to start. Very original flavor and very fresh. There was a little salty kick with each bite. We had beef tartare as another appetizer and it was some of the best we have ever had. I had the ribeye and it was perfectly cooked, great flavor and incredibly juicy. My wife had the salmon (she never gets salmon at a restaurant because her brother lives in Alaska, fed it to her straight out of the river and now she won't eat it anywhere else). And she loved it. She loved my ribeye (and she hates ribeye). The dessert was to die for. Our waitress was fantastic. Our courses could not have been timed better if we had been sitting in the middle of the kitchen banging our forks when we wanted more food. And our server was always available but never hovering. I saw all of the awards this place won in 2019. Whoever gave them needs to come back because this place is deserving of all the accolades a restaurant can get in 2025. I completely forgot to check in but wow, this place is delicious! My 1st impression was the smell of the firewood. You definitely will smell like you went to a bonfire it's not overwhelming but it sets the tone. Server was top notch. He was so knowledgeable about the menu with great recommendations. Friendly and professional. Wow the food is just exquisite. The potatoes took the prize for me but then the stake and that cheesecake, oh boy! The rest of the items, the salad and the beef tartare were delicious too. The place is not too big so I recommend reservations. The noise it's average to quiet. Finally got around to trying Pelican & Pig for my birthday dinner this year after neglecting them for many years. I was very pleased with the ambiance, service, & quality of the food. My favor dish would probably be the roasted sweet potatoes with burrata which is a MUST. The pork entree I had was also exceptional. My food obsessed best friend and I have been lucky enough to eat at some of the best restaurants across the country and our dinner tonight at the still P&P blew us away! I have driven by 1 million times and have never thought to stop in and I'm kicking myself for not finding this gem sooner. We started with cocktails and mocktails that I gushed about so much that our kickass waitress Alannah wrote the recipe out for me. For food we started off with the whipped feta, corn ribs, and sweet potatoes and every time they brought something out I thought "this meal cannot get better" and was quickly proven wrong. Thankfully, we got one entree to split because the portion sizes are very generous and the ribeye was so delicious and buttery we were just silently chewing and sighing aloud. We ended the meal with red velvet cheesecake that was the perfectly sweet ending to the best meal I've had in this city in a long time. The vibe in here is so perfectly curated for East Nashville. The meat is perfection, the seasoning and grilling of that cut was stunning. I drool thinking of it. Beef Tartare that will bring you back to the 60s heydays of that dish. Excellent meat and excellent seasoning...plus those peppers on top,,,, oh my Great potatoes that were buttery seasoned goodness. Great cocktails. The sorta whatever: Carrots were a big snooze ( not cooked well and boring seasoning). Shishito peppers ( I can cook these at home just like this...nothing inspiring) Corn Ribs ( this is the much hailed item and basically it is a way to take corn off the cob. Sure its sorta novel and the seasoning was good but like don't go cray over it) The Bad The trout was poorly presented... I mean I wouldn't even touch it. Personally Trout should always have a crispy skin and this was not and sort of yuck. The three chocolate cookies for dessert were the most sad thing I have ever seen. An intimate spot, that is dimly lit and gives a little southern gothic vibe. I was headed to a goth show at the east room so perhaps it was just also my already tinted lens being applied. The menus are limited, but with some great selections. If you have picky eaters in your party, either review the menu in advance or perhaps try your luck elsewhere. That goes for the food and the wine. I was sold with the wine menu though. They had an orange wine on the list! Rare that a spot carries one. I was starving so I devoured three apps/dishes. I started with the beets and then also ordered the roasted carrots and the burrata. Everything was so delicious but portions are small. The carrots and burrata were listed as shareables but I had no issue polishing them off myself. I even left still a little hungry. To be fair, I did miss lunch. Went to Pelican and pig. The outside doesn't look like much well you couldn't be more wrong. Our server Jake was fantastic. He walk us through the different items that we were interested in. We started with the burrata a melted cheese on crostini. This was delicious.Next we had the the Brussels sprouts I couldn't believe the flavor. They had a glaze with a pecan and bacon pieces. And these were enough for 2. Then came the main course. I had the strip steak. My wife had the ribeye. We both thought these were to die for the flavors were so different with the seasoning between the 2. We also had the Yukon potato which were excellent . Then we split a piece of banana pudding cheese cake. It had crispy crumbs that were awesome. This was 1 of my top 5 meals my wife and I were so impressed with this meal. Really good! read more

After reading all the outstanding reviews, we decided to come here for our one year anniversary. Overall, we were sadly underwhelmed. When we booked the reservation, it asked what it is for, and we put that it is our first anniversary. We weren't looking for anything special, but it was never acknowledge throughout the night which is not normal for what we've experienced for other special occasions dining in Nashville. The drinks were well balanced and the appetizers were mostly tasty. We had the corn ribs, baked oysters and fingerlings. We were impressed with the ribs and oysters but the fingerlings were dry and overcooked. Now for the entrees, we ordered both the ribeye and the New York strip, medium rare. The ribeye didn't have any pink and was unfortunately so chewy that I was unable to finish. The New York strip was slightly overcooked as well. So I suggest ordering a grade below your normal desired temperature. We'd come back for the appetizers but we were sadly not happy with the entrees for the price. read more

Pelican & Pig has been on our list for a while and I finally happened across a table when we were looking for plans. Parking is a little tough in this area but we wound up finding someone who was pulling out from right out front so it worked out for us. You may want to look up options beforehand if you have parking anxiety like me. Our server was friendly and helpful without being overbearing or rushing us. She let us know that we could order all at once and the kitchen would pace our meal out for us. My tablemates started with some wine and I was impressed with several options in the NA menu -- a few beers and mocktails -- and got an NA juicy IPA which was everything I wanted it to be. We decided to go with just one entree for 3 of us since the ribeye was a healthy 18 ounces, so we got two "snacks" and two "shareable" to go with our steak. The burrata was melty, garlicky, and fragrant with some extra crispy thin crostini. It was a little hard to get out since it was warm and the cheese pull was real, but it was a solid start. The beets had sesame and I believe apple and were nicely balanced with a creamy sauce. The corn ribs were the table favorite -- as I would expect for the only thing specifically recommended by our server. Packed with flavor, smoky, a little kick, with a great creamy sauce to balance out the seasoning. They're a little messy like actual ribs but so so worth it. The Brussels sprouts were a healthy helping, huge sprouts that were crispy but not overly so, well seasoned, and balanced nicely with apples and goat cheese. And the ribeye with crispy onion pieces and whipped blue cheese (drool!) was fantastic! Overall, food was super flavorful, ambiance was cozy without being stuffy or super dark, service was great, and the pacing was perfect for a relaxing and enjoyable meal. We'll be back. read more

Holy cow, this place is great! The Corn Ribs are absolutely amazing. It's like a deconstructed elote, but waaaayy better. The pork chop is really good too! I'd say it's the 2nd best pork chop I've ever had. And lastly, the banana pudding cheesecake is probably the best cheesecake I've ever had..but I also love bananas so I wouldn't recommend it if you're not a banana fan. The cookie dessert was a safe, amazing option as well. My server, Jake, was such a nice dude and always had a smile on his face. Our waters were always full. And the ambiance is very nice. Any restaurant that can make carrots taste that good is a place worth visiting. The carrots alone deserve 5 stars! We enjoyed everything we had, though, believe me. We visited Pelican & Pig earlier in the week and received friendly service from Lexie along with delicious food. We ordered the red fish and steak along with corn ribs, Brussels sprouts, and carrots and then finished things off with chocolate chip cookies. Pelican & Pig: The Fastest Way to Waste $200 and Your Patience My boyfriend and I made the mistake of coming here Saturday night to celebrate our anniversary. We had a 7:45 PM reservation but ended up standing at the host stand for 20 minutes without so much as eye contact from a single employee. At that point, we should've taken it as a warning sign and left. When someone finally noticed us, we were shoved into a dark corner like they were hoping we'd forget why we came. Twenty more minutes just to get water, thirty more minutes before anyone bothered to hand us menus. You'd have an easier time getting served at a gas station at 2 AM. My boyfriend ordered the fish, which was apparently a bold choice because the entire kitchen was falling apart. No one in the restaurant got fish. It became painfully obvious that the kitchen couldn't deliver, but instead of being upfront, they waited another 30 minutes to casually mention there was "an issue" like we wouldn't notice. Meanwhile, we watched other customers stand at the host stand for 15-20 minutes, get ignored, and eventually walk out. If you're so short-staffed you can't even seat people or cook the food you advertise, maybe just close the doors for the night instead of scamming paying customers. Saturday night was an absolute embarrassment, and anyone involved in it should be ashamed. I promise you, I'm going full Paul Revere with this experience I will tell everyone I know to steer clear of Pelican & Pig. Loudly. As for the drinks? Uninspired, weak, and barely drinkable but at least they distracted us for a second from the growing sense of regret. An hour and a half later, we finally received our steaks. Mine, ordered medium, came out cold, rare, and sad like someone threw it on a plate after finding it under a table. For a "wood-fired" steakhouse, getting a hot steak shouldn't be a once-in-a-lifetime event. By the time we dragged ourselves out the door $200 poorer and angrier than when we came in -- we agreed we would've had a better night at Chili's. And not even a good Chili's. Any Chili's. This place isn't just poorly run it's actively insulting. Between the nonexistent service, ice-cold food, and complete lack of professionalism, Pelican & Pig should be absolutely humiliated to charge what they do. Would I come back? We are dreaming about corn ribs! We started with focaccia and burrata. We've never been served warm burrata before. Don't think I'm a fan. It gets watery. Or maybe if it were served with the focaccia instead of the toasts. They didn't want to soak up the melty salty yumminess. Highly recommend the CW drink. What's not to love when you combine bourbon and pineapple juice ?! We decided to share the sides, which I highly recommend. I would now skip the apps and go straight to the sides! We ordered the roasted Yukons, zucchini carpaccio, blackberry panzanella, roasted Brussel sprouts, and the CORN RIBS! Loved each and every bite of every side. For entrees, our table also ordered the ribeye, NY strip, pork chop, and four of the roasted oysters. The rib eye with the blue cheese was not a favorite. A beautifully grilled steak, but the whipped blue cheese was too thick and cold juxtaposed with the steak. The oysters were small. Probably should have skipped them as it's early in the season, and bc I loved the sides more. Don't listen to people with a single review and no pics on Yelp. They are just haters. This place is a hidden gem. We stayed in East Nashville for a week and this was by far the best place we dined at. The server was so attentive, she noticed a fly on the window bothering me and killed it with a napkin. We ordered the cauliflower and kale salad to eat with our main dishes. For the entrees I ordered the heritage pork and my wife order the prime ny strip. The flavors on all the dishes were spectacular. My only gripe was the lack of salt on the cauliflower, which was an easy fix. I've never had pork chops and New York steak taste so tender. I recommend medium cook on each of those. The service was impeccable! I highly recommend this place if you are looking for good food that is not fried southern food or fine dining. This place is on FIRE - pun intended. East Nashville has some great restaurants and this is hands down one of our favorites. Reservations encouraged. We were seated at the counter by the "kitchen" which was fantastic. We were able to watch first hand the magic happening on the grill and interacted with the staff whom were top notch in service and fun to chat with. For appetizers, don't skip the tartare - fresh cut from the steak (ribeye, I believe) ends. The pickled peppers on top are a delight on their own. I opted for the pork chop and my husband the ribeye. Both were wonderful. The sides though, don't come at me, but the sides alone are worth going for. The corn ribs are flavorful and unique. The Brussels are next level. The carrots, the carrots may seem underrated but if you don't give them a go, you're certainly missing out. Aside from the tartare, the carrots were enough to keep me coming back. Visited the establishment on a Wednesday evening. Was surprised at 5:45 to enter a completely empty restaurant. After being seated we were greeted by a very friendly waiter who gave drink and food recommendations. He coursed out our entire meal, giving us plenty of time to enjoy our drinks and each other. The wood fire smell adds to the ambiance and warmth, as do the leather chairs. The menu gives a few curated options for starters, sharing, sea, land and desserts. Drinks are detailed and delicious, you can't get these cocktails everywhere. The menu is printed oddly, but once you learn the right way to flip it you can get from the drinks to food easily. As the first people in the restaurant it was odd that they sat the next table right next to us, but overall a very enjoyable night. read more

Here are my impressions from the meal: Food - 1/5 After seeing the hype around this restaurant, we had high expectations for the food we were about to experience. Unfortunately, we were let down across the board. Our group tried a selection of their tapa style dishes to share - beef tartare, shishito peppers, focaccia bread, mussels, fried mozzarella, and carrots. All of the dishes carried a common theme: they had overwhelmingly bold flavors that clashed and overwhelmed the palette. In an award winning restaurant, you would expect them to play on subtle flavors, textures, and sensory experiences, but it felt like they didn't put that level of care and artistry into the dishes. We found them really hard to eat, leaving much of the dishes on the plate and walking away still hungry. I would have rather seen more "standard" dishes that were still palatable over the experimental and unique flavors they aimed for. Drinks - 5/5 We tried the CW, humble quest, and a bourbon cocktail (can't recall the name). I really liked the flavors in all of the cocktails and found them to be well balanced and photogenic. Ambiance - 2/5 The inside of the restaurant is cutely decorated with a relaxed, yet aesthetic, feel. They had an open concept kitchen, and it was really cool to get a small glimpse into the work the chefs did to create the dishes. However, they had a fire running to cook the meats, which produced a lot of smoke, and they did not have good ventilation. This caused the restaurant to feel and appear very smoky throughout, even though we were not seated close to the kitchen. Service - 4/5 The service we received was attentive and very friendly. There was a small mix up with the reservation on the restaurant's end, but the hostess was great and got everything straightened out. Our waitress was thorough and explained the menu well. Based on my overall impression of the experience, I would rate it a 2/5. At such a high price point, we really expected more out of the dinner and the overall experience. Came here on a recent visit to Nashville. The restaurant is spacious and easy to get to, we made a reservation in advance and got seated pretty quickly. The food was more appetizer heavy so we ordered a bunch of appetizers to share among the 4 of us. My favorites here were the corn ribs and the Mozzerella cheese. The corn ribs had alot of flavor and texture. The cheese was really cool because it was coated in Nashville hot chicken dressing which I didn't expect, the flavor worked really well! As for the other side dishes, they were overly salty in my opinion particularly for the vegetable dishes like broccolini and the carrots which were drowned in cheese and oil. This spot is relatively upscale so the ambience is nice but I would recommend asking the chef to go light on salt if you visit. read more

The tables are a little too close for comfort in my opinion, as you can listen to the conversation next to you, but my only complaint of our entire visit. The service was top notch - not too pushy or overbearing, just right. Unlike many Nashville restaurants, we were able to easily park directly in front of the restaurant too! I enjoyed it a lot! Pros and cons: Pros: This is a great balance if you're going out with someone who likes "meat and potatoes," and at the same time you enjoy nice food and a little flair. The atmosphere is amazing- it smells like smoke, which makes it cozy (maybe less cozy if you're allergic to smoke, lol). The corn ribs were my favorite- they're simple but punchy; and who doesn't love good corn? The cookies were also awesome. We got a dozen for four of us and they were GONE. Cons: I'm just gonna say it- the cocktail program is not great in my opinion. When there wasn't something that spoke to me, I asked if they could do a riff on a classic Negroni. They said yes, and dropped off my drink. But when I noticed it was literally just a Negroni (important detail: they dropped it off to me and didn't mention it was just a Negroni) they said the bartender didn't know how to riff off of one. Fair enough! But don't tell me you can do it and then drop off something different as if I won't notice . Just be upfront. Secondly, there were a couple details I would've preferred to be a lil streamlined- for example, I've appreciated at good restaurants when the pork is cut for me. We got a LOT of pork and I felt like I was hacking at it haha. For context, we eat out regularly and have enjoyed bastion and catbird seat and Michelin restaurants. Pelican and pig is enjoyable, and I think it's a great pick for someone who isn't used to fine dining and likes more classic/traditional food... but wants something nicer than normal or wants to dip their toe into more fine dining experiences. To be comparable to Lyra and Butcher and Bee (as examples of really good, non tasting menu Nashville restaurants), I think the cocktail program and some of the details of the experience would need to be ironed out. read more

Finally made it into to pelican and pig and it certainly did not disappoint the big hype that had been built up by friends on these east Nashville eatery. The menu while having minimal options did a wonderful job of having upscale staples with a seasonal twist. The fish collars were unique and perfectly tender with a beautiful spicy sauce. Chef took lots of care with this one (great to watch him make) and it came through with the flavor. The whole shrimps created a dilemma for wifey and I - she chose to peel off shell - I left it on and consumed which I thought was an amazing flavor boost to the dish. Pelican & Pig has been on our go to list for a couple years now, and we regret holding off on going until recently, that was definitely our bad;) This was a double birthday celebration for both my wife and I, and when I say our meal was unforgettable, it most certainly was! We couldn't get enough the oft-mentioned corn ribs, the Yukon Gold potatoes, the fish collar of the day, and the majestic ribeye with blue cheese "butter" [eyes rolling to back of head]. After all that, we somehow made room for their "separation anxiety" dessert, warm chocolate chip cookies with milk "jam". Oh, and a shoutout to Bri D, she made us feel right at home and her recommendations were spot on. We're now working on the next family/friend event to which we'll have an excuse for returning to P&P...We can't recommend highly enough! read more
