Food and service was excellent. Not really crowded so there's no line or waiting. Great atmosphere too!

Breakfast special- omelette with broccoli and sugar snap peas. The veggies were cooked perfectly, not soggy and not undercooked. No cheese on this item so it makes it a little lower in fat and calories. The fruit was fresh and not slimy like some other places that say their fruit is fresh. Bacon, egg and cheese omelette. This was very good. The bacon was crispy and the egg was great, not over cooked and rubbery. The only complaint I have about this item is that I do not like American cheese and would have preferred cheddar and one additional piece of bacon for each half. We go to "Pelton's" every few months. Fantastic cowboy decorations everywhere with a Mexican flare. Some humorous decorations mixed with the old-fashioned ones too. Fantastic 1940s-style building. The food? Never had a bad meal, and our latest visit was the best yet. We usually get breakfasts, including eggs benedict, omelets, chicken apple sausage, and corned beef hash. We sometimes get burgers. Everything is good and nothing is greasy. We prefer some potatoes elsewhere, and we think the coffee could be better. But no restaurant is perfect. I've passed this place several times but never had until today. We order this morning for breakfast and it was so good. The food was still nice and hot when we got it. I had a skillet with toast and my husband had the humbaby. We were both very pleased with the food packaging and amount of food given. It was very enjoyable and we will be ordering from here again. My friend and I just ate here this morning. To say this was not up to its usual quality, is an understatement. First, my order came without my friend's order. My hash browns were cold. My friends did not come at the same time as mine. They offered no comments or apologies as to why hers didn't come at the same time. Five minutes later hers came and had to be sent back because the poached eggs were overdone. Another 5 minutes before the that order came. Her hash browns were also cold and tasteless. At that point, they should have comped at least one of the meals. We have been coming here together for quite some time now. We will not be coming again! Quality control has vanished. I guess Pelton Cafe is hit or miss. Today's Eggs Florentine came on a plate of soupy hollandaise and the tomato was mushy. Soupy hollandaise, mushy tomato and the entire dish was a soggy mess. Had the best breakfast and coffee ever. It's not my first time here, but today was incredible. I had the chilaquiles con huevo y frijoles and coffee. The coffee was perfect. I remember long ago I wasn't a fan of it. Now it's amazing Los chilaquiles were great, the crunch of the tortillas and amount of green sauce ratio was perfect. I've been here several times. Breakfast is good don't get me wrong, but the service is terrible. Knocked out 4 stars because of the terrible service. If you have to dine-in alone, don't expect to be priority because all they prioritize are 2 or more people in a table. I came in today 4/21/2022 to have breakfast, a lady server let me seat, asked me to what to drink, I said give me a minute because I just got here. She never came back. Another server lady number 2 came to get my drinks and I told her I was ready to order. And she said she will get another server. I'm like what the heck? I have to wait for another server to get my food. So 10 minutes passed. The other lady server 2 was running around doing nothing. I waved at her I said I am ready to order. She left again. So another server came this time it's a guy server. I told him I have been waiting and this lady server 2 keeps running around doing nothing instead of getting my order the first time. He apologize and took my order. My order came great. Then comes the time I have to pay. Lady server 3 I asked for my bill she completely ignored me. I have to stop at lady server 1 for the bill. She immediately came back with the bill. It's funny how fast she came back because it's time for me to pay. I paid the bill. I left and of course that will be my last time there. read more

If you're looking for a home-style and affordable breakfast with friendly service, Pelton Cafe is a good choice in San Leandro. The food is always hot, tasty and timely, even when it's busy. The portions are always generous, so you never have to leave this place hungry. We stopped by on a weekday morning after picking my father-in-law at the airport, so there was no wait. We've experienced some wait times on weekend mornings, but they've been short like 15-30 minutes. I ordered the Bacon and Cheese Omelette and asked the server if I could sub the toast and hash browns with sauteed spinach. She said I could. :) My husband ordered Over Easy Eggs, Bacon and Hash Brown breakfast, and my father-in-law ordered the Mushroom Omelette with English Muffin and a side of bacon which we all shared. You can never have enough bacon I suppose! We were all happy with our food. The bill came out to about $42 including coffee and tea. Not bad at all for three people. Pelton Cafe opens from 7am to 3pm. When you arrive, there's a notebook where you sign in and wait for your name to be called. On hot days, it's really uncomfortable inside. There's no AC. Only small house fans nailed to the wall. Breakfast and service was average. read more

My husband and I go here almost every weekend so this review is long overdue. I personally think this is the best breakfast place in San Leandro. The staff is friendly (and they know our regular orders!), service is fast, and the veggie omelet is my favorite. The French toast, waffles, and pancakes are also very good. It's important that you go early, before 8:30am if possible, otherwise there's usually a wait or it's difficult to find parking. I'm writing this review while recovering from a cold and waiting for them to open so I can see about getting takeout. I haven't gone in a week since I've been sick and all I can think about is how much I want an omelet! read more

I've had four breakfasts here; four too many, one might argue, but I did have to complete my Great Breakfast Expedition of the 2010's (which will be comprehensively Yelped). Without question, I wanted to like Pelton Café. It has at least two generations under its belt, tucked inside the long-established Pelton Center, and it maintains its popularity with daily visitors. The interior is comfortable with mostly window seating; the walls are decorated with relics of the Wild West. Now then, nod along with me if you can relate: have you ever set foot in an establishment and thought to yourself, "There is no way I will order the steak here."? Yes? No? For me, ordering steak at breakfast diners is a risky practice I have only recently discontinued, and eateries like the Pelton Café only serve to reinforce my avoidance. From the Book of Joe: "Rule #4: order steak ONLY from a steakhouse, preferably one that has a dress code." However, I must have been really hungry or under-caffeinated, because on my first visit to Pelton Café, I ordered steak and eggs, the classic, All-American, side of bourbon and cigarettes breakfast. It was simply not good, and the only saving grace was that I ordered my eggs over-easy - the *yolks*, dear people, are what helped soften this impenetrable impostor of passable beef. Never again. The three following breakfasts, all of which I attended at the bidding of friends or family members, were omelet based. Each time I would hold out for the possibility that breakfast would be acceptable, but I emerged disappointed each time. The omelets themselves were dry! So dry. Order a well's worth of water to ease your mind. But even drier, and much more to my dismay: the home potatoes. I don't know which home these potatoes hail from, and I do not want to know. It might be anticipated that we, the patrons, are primarily focused on the entrée, not the sides. Not so. The sides are as important as the entrée, I do declare. I do not order food with the intention of throwing away a third or a half of it. Potatoes are not a garnish or decoy. However, I despair the imaginably irreverent treatment these potatoes might get in the kitchen: cooked well in advance, drying to a tasteless crisp in a deep pan, awaiting a lethargic scoop to dump onto the entrée. That, I'm afraid, will not do. If a breakfast was truly good, or even "A-OK", you needn't exhaust the restaurant's supply of ketchup and Tabasco; only a dab to taste should suffice. Here, to ensure your mouth doesn't lock shut from the dryness, I would recommend an emergency flask of sauce, and throw in some WD-40 while you're at it. Pelton Café misses the mark for me. It was my first visit to Pelton Cafe, my son suggested we meet there for breakfast before my mother leave back to Europe.,, We had to wait outside (16min) as there were no tables available on a Monday morning at 10:45am. The service was ok only 2 ladies serving entire cafe and also cashiering...food display on plates was very poor my bacon looked grayish and once I bite on it it was rubbery like taste, the scrambled eggs looked like it had no life etc..I dine a lot out especially for breakfast and I must say that this one flunked big time. The bill was on the high side which was truly disappointing at the end. Don't see another reason to visit there again, Denny's has better food portions, and presentation and lower prices than they do! read more

We used to frequent this place as a family when everyone was dining out. However, after everything we started ordering breakfast from here. It has been wonderful! As always been fresh we live nearby so faithfully there is not much time for the food to get gross on the way but pancakes toast and everything arrives well packed good portions and fresh. I love how they have meals that include drinks with breakfast. And they even have kids meals from breakfast the dollar pancakes can't be beat for kids. Really disappointed customer. I'm always shopping in the Plaza across the street until I got hungry. Searching out something nearby Pelton Cafe was the destination. Upon arrival my boyfriend and I noticed the place was pretty busy, but there was a sign in sheet for tables if you felt like waiting, and bar seating if u did not. We wanted to wait for a table but there was no pen for the sign in sheet, and the waiter acted as if tables weren't an option, so we opted to sit at the bar. I did not like sitting at the bar; it didn't feel like we were having breakfast together, and they weren't paying attention to us. There was a lot to choose from but no one informed about the specials. Instead they were miscellaneous placed food options randomly hanging throughout the restaurant to discover. So by the time I did see something I liked on the wall it was too late because I already ordered my food. They were really unorganized, running around more than they had to because they kept getting peoples order wrong or bringing them the wrong food. They actually set my plate at another table and when she told them it wasn't hers they just set it next to me. No telling what they did to it. I ordered the Crab cakes Benedict which to say was nasty, beautifully plated but It was mushy and soggy with grease or maybe from being frozen. It tasted of refrigerator a touch, and the hollandaise was not even hollandaise sauce, but a weird similar version. My boyfriend ordered the Denver omelette which was lacking in flavors also with barley to no cheese and his hash browns were cold. The only good thing was the side french toast I ordered. Nothing here was memorable and I left feeling dissatisfied. Maybe they are better when it isn't as busy. read more

I love the feel of this place. It's rustic, country decor and always-smiling staff make anyone feel welcome here. Even on a Monday morning the seats are filled, a sure sign that the food is good. I've dined here for breakfast about 1/2 dozen times and have yet to leave unsatisfied. The portions are ample, the service is quick, the coffee is hot (although occasionally too hot), and the prices are right. Today I ordered the deluxe omelette. Bacon, turkey, avocado and a hollandaise sauce. I'm a sucker for hollandaise. My love got French toast, eggs and sausage patties. My omelette was tasty, although not really an omelette. It's more of a pan scramble that has been flipped in half...it lacked the moisture a traditional omelette has because the eggs are thoroughly cooked on both sides before it's folded over. This seems to be the way a lot of breakfast joints cook their omelettes nowadays though. The French toast and sausage patties were a hit! The hot chocolate with whipped cream and sprinkles on top is definitely a staple for this spot and I highly recommend it. On a good day, there's a violinist there to serenade you. This cafe's breakfasts are tasty American homestyle and made fairly quickly to order. Staff are friendly, but usually harried because of how busy they usually are. Their decor is western and a little kitschy. The menu is fairly standard but has some unusual items. Their "Humbaby" breakfast, for example, is kind of like a Hawaiian Loco Moco crossed with a Southern Biscuits and Gravy. Their specials are usually even better than the usual menu fare but sometimes hard to notice, written on a couple of signs near the door. Take notice of them as the staff won't volunteer them when ordering. This cafe nearly always has a queue of people outside on weekend mornings. I've not yet come here other times, so I can't speak for anything other than breakfast. read more
