The cutest breakfast spot tucked away in San Leandro! My older son and I had just finished a workout on a Saturday morning and were both starving. We still needed to pick up my youngest son before grabbing some food, but we all had one thing on our minds: breakfast. We originally planned to go somewhere else, but they were closed, so we started looking up other breakfast spots in the area. The photos from previous reviews helped us make our decision, and that's how we ended up at Ronaker's Coffee Shop. As soon as we walked in, it had that classic mom-and-pop diner feel where you're treated like family and fed like family. The atmosphere was welcoming, comfortable, and exactly the kind of place you want to settle into for a good breakfast. I didn't manage to get pictures of everything we ordered, but my boys and I all agreed on one thing: the French toast is the star of the show. We came here on a weekend day in the early morning and were told to pick a table once we arrived. It took a little bit for us to get the menu, and the food itself took about 15 minutes or more after we ordered, but the food was pretty solid itself. My partner ordered the French toast special with bacon, eggs, and toast, while I ordered the veggie scramble with hash browns and toast. While my partner did not like the French toast, because it was too eggy and not fluffy, I really enjoyed the veggie scramble. There were so many fresh veggies in the scramble that went well together such as avocado, olives, onions, bell peppers, etc. It was very delicious with the cheese and fresh salsa. A staffer said that their fresh salsa was the best, and we agreed -- it had a lot of flavor and went well with the eggs. My hash browns were also perfectly crispy, which was nice. The ambiance of this place is definitely more of a cafe vibe, and they get really busy so we don't get a whole ton of attention from staff. But overall, I would go back just for the veggie scramble. Visited this place as this is close to my work and was excited to try it out because of the positive reviews and I don't agree with the Yelpers on this one. Sat down and was promptly greeted and ordered quickly and the price was very fair. So now to the food which was very underwhelming as you can see by the pictures. The pancakes were very rubbery and didn't have good flavor and maybe the flour mix they are using is not good quality. The eggs and hash browns were good but no presentation and no care or concern. The ambiance was as your hometown diner and very laid back which was very cool. However, I came for the food and not so much the rest and reason for my 2 stars. I wish I could rate it better but just couldn't do it. I don't want to steer others wrong. Hopefully they talk with the cook and go better going forward. read more

Super cute old-school diner. They have so many good looking specials, that It was really hard to choose. I ended up going with The hobo breakfast. That includes your choice of toast or biscuits with gravy, so course I got biscuits. The register was down so it was cash only so this was the perfect plate to split with my wife with the cash we had on hand. This breakfast is definitely a two person meal or a very hungry person's breakfast. The biscuits and gravy were simple, but definitely worth getting again. Oh and you have to try their salsa. It is so damn good! And I especially appreciate the fact that the service is really great as that's not the case for so many restaurants in the Bay Area as of late. The service is great, the servers I had were nice, and you can't go wrong here especially for breakie I usually get the country fried steak and eggs with hash browns extra crispy. Today I ordered that steak extra crispy, hash browns extra crispy, and eggs over medium with a pancake on the side. The pancake is alright its probably better if you add a lot more butter- if you prefer fluffier pancakes though, this is for you. Everything was cooked to perfection and my bf usually gets the Sam's scramble with chorizo added. He also orders two poached eggs on the side. We wanted a quick simple breakfast. It was about 6am and not all the local joints were open yet. I remembered having seen Ronaker's in passing and they were open. We were greeted as we walked in. There were counter seats as well as tables. We opted to sit away from the other patrons so we could converse in private. Several other customers came in after us. Some ate in while others took their orders to go. This is an industrial part of town so it appeared that most of the customers were local laborers and truck drivers. Service was quick and efficient. Dined at Ronaker's on a rainy, but busy, Monday morning. We were promptly greeted and told to sit anywhere. The ambiance is very homey and quaint. Traditional diner vibes. Our server was very friendly. I ordered Sam's Scramble with wheat toast and hash browns. The food did take a while, granted, I later that saw there was only 1 cook-- props to them! My husband took me to this place yesterday and I was pleasantly surprised. We were greeted upon entry. They said we can sit wherever we liked, so we sat in a corner. The waitress immediately came and asked what we wanted to drink. We ordered coffee and water. While looking at the menu I noticed that although the place was a bit dated, it was very clean and had a lot of light coming in. A very cheery atmosphere. This place needs a full make over.. it's very old looking at to me there 40+years.. congrats to the establishment.. appears to be family run, again no problem.. however a lot of duck tape around trying hold things together.. dirty tables.. dust, spiderwebs on walls.. filthy menus.. door said ladies room was actually a closet.( door wide open).. I ordered a Belgian waffle scramble eggs 2 pieces of bacon cup of coffe and orange juice.... why did the eggs smell "eggie" how is that possible!! Not in a good way either.. so I passed on that easy. I know this is a breakfast cafe and I shouldn't expect anything other than a normal egg, meat choice, and hash brown w/ toast order BUT the bacon just threw me alllll the way off. I use to be a fan of their breakfast meats but seems their using a different type of sausage now and microwave bacon? Heard about this place a long time ago and finally came to check this spot out. The service was excellent I got my food fast and was frequently checked on. I ordered the Huevos ranchero special and added chorizo and I also had French toast. The Huevos ranchero was really good the beans, chorizo, eggs, tortilla, and salsa were just the perfect combo all the flavors and textures went extremely good together. Such a great spot not far from the airport. Picked up my best friend in Oakland and stopped here for a bite before hitting the Piers. Her and I order the biscuits and gravy. Tasted like basic biscuits and gravy but good portion sizes. My husband got the breakfast burrito and it was the biggest burrito I'd seen in a long time. It was filled to the brim and he loved it. This place is what I would call a 'pachanga'. In Mexican Spanish it's what you would call a somewhat run-down, casual sit down place where the mood is chill and regulars pull up a chair and engage in sometimes loud but friendly conversations with the servers and cooks ---in Spanish. For this is a Mexican greasy spoon through and through, or at least it wants to be. This place has seen much better days. The counter is round, tables small and rickety, coffee is Farmer Brothers (not bad) and I bet the word 'latte' or 'matcha' do not appear on the menu. But the regular fare of eggs and omelettes and scrambles do, along with pancakes and a bunch of specials. Since this was my first time I kept it simple: pancake special ($8.60) with two scrambled eggs, 2 strips of bacon, two fluffy cakes. The eggs were not "soft scrambled" ---they must have thought it was some foreign technique! IGNORED! But they weren't bad and of course underseasoned. Why don't restaurants salt their eggs? The cakes were OK to good.....not much of a buttermilk flavor and it would be really nice to have some kind of buttery or vanilla flavor, honestly. I suspect however it was from a sack of Kruteaz. It was the bacon that was the problem: flabby, skinny, emaciated with no real flavor whatsoever. So why do I say Mexican joint? Because there are chorizo scrambles that I would bet are pretty good, and with a few more customers, they would be hanging out enjoying huevos rancheros, chilaquiles, hell, even some pozole or menudo on the weekends. Why not? The Mexican fare would really give this place the lift (in all senses) it needs. And it would not hurt to replace the lonely bottles of Tabasco sauce on the tables. read more

We have been coming to this establishment for 25+ years and it is always been good until today. I understand nobody's perfect. When it was brought to their attention that the hash-browns were burnt beyond extra crispy, they just reminded me that I asked for extra crispy and they'll let the kitchen know. Anybody that has ever eaten a burnt potato knows the bitter taste that it has, and how it will ruin your taste buds for the rest of your food and for sometime after. Decent diner breakfast on the way to the Oakland airport after filling up gas for car rental at Costco San Leandro. We were craving country fried steak, and it was a good option. Unlike another review, I thought it was flavorful - came from the breading (maybe even slightly salty but balanced by the creamy gravy that didn't have as much seasoning). The outer hash brown was crispy but the inner was a bit mushy. The hash brown wasn't burnt but had a slight brunt flavor from the griddle I guess so I wouldn't get it extra crispy per complaint from another review. The green salsa gave it flavor, but it's pretty spicy. It also came with 3 eggs and toast. The waitress was very nice. Service was fast. read more

A restaurant that you would typically find on "Diners, Drive-inn, and Dives" on food network and I would say it is most similar to a Diner. Classic looking diner with bar seating for individuals as well as table seating.
