    The butcher

Amazing experience. The place is very small but it made it feel cozy in the middle of the ghent neighborhood. The service was great. Brought us our food and constantly checked how we were doing and if we needed anything. We had the butcher sandwhich and the cleaver burger. Both were amazing. The butcher was a super solid sandwhich with meats cut right at the spot. Cheese melting right. Meats seasoned sooo good. Prices are a bit expensive but i feel like i got what i paid for. Definitely coming back!

Pendulum Fine Meats is a butcher shop first that just happens to offer food. I wanted a charcuterie board which I found out is a problem because they make them to order in advance. They don't make charcuterie boards on the spot, you have to order them 24 hours in advance. So I just ordered some meat and made the best of it. In the end it was great. There is all kinds of meat, cheese, lunch meat and things to go with them like bread, nuts, honey, etc. They also have a decent craft beer selection. The service was exceptional except for the charcuterie hiccup. The young lady who was cutting my meat and I were having some communication problems. Not because we spoke a different language, but because I was kind of asking for something off script. In my ignorance of visiting here for the first time, I didn't know the rules. I will know for next time. So my overall impression as a first timer is a 3.5 stars, but will round up to 4 because the other patrons were having a great experience.

Pendulum is truly a gem. It quickly jumped up to one of my favorite spots for lunch in all of Hampton Roads, but definitely in Norfolk. I do love the quaint feel of Ghent in general, but love this specific spot that is just a bit off the main road. They do have their own parking lot, which in theory, is wildly convenient but it is often full. We came on a Friday for lunch and it was definitely busy but we were able to snag a great table outside to enjoy the weather. They offer some great draft beers, wine and house sangria. The sangria was delicious and refreshing. Food was superb. Truly incredible. Both sandwiches that we had (The Butcher and the Cuban) were 10/10 and would absolutely order again. Fries were also phenomenal.

Almost forgot to take a photo because we couldn't wait to dig in. The Shepherd burger in the front, house burger in the back.

Pendulum is an amazing neighborhood butcher that also has PHENOMENAL sandwiches. It's a favorite lunch spot I go to whenever I can. it boasts an impressive menu of burgers and sandwiches in addiction to the butcher counter staples and any meat cut you can think of, homemade sausages, and interesting products like tinned fishes, lard, rilette, and local goodies. Today we tried the house burger and The Shepherd, a lamb burger. Both were delicious and on par with the other sandwiches we've had there. The star are the house fries that come with a savory aioli. Honestly, nothing here is a bad choice!

Butcher shops with amazing lunch options! Arrived here on a Monday and didn't have a long line + the employees were very friendly. They have the menu in chalk when you first walk in. Remember, this is a butcher shop sk you can also just come in and order your quality meats. A good variety. I got the Big Tex with a salad. Brisket was tender and melt in your mouth - exactly what you'd want in your brisket. Sauces and toppings complimented each other really well. Highly recommend. They have a good selections of beers, wines, and non alcoholic drinks - you can pay for everything upfront or after you finish eating or drinking. Interior is nice and rustic. Seating available but it seems more like a take it to go type of place. It's right off Colley Ave so it walking distance to other restaurants, shops, and things to do.

This place is always such a treat whenever I get the chance to visit. Never have had a bad experience here. The staff is super nice, the building is cozy, food is in delectable- just make sure to get there before their garlic aioli runs out!

Upon arrival you wouldn't expect a front store inside with the home vibes it gives. But the outside definitely mimics the inside. Dana, her husband and staff are super friendly and make you feel comfortable like you're at home. Took the sausage making class with my husband and would recommend the class to everyone. It was hands on but not overwhelming. Absolutely loved the tasting of the sausage meat paired with the made from scratch bread. It was definitely a great class to learn something new to try at home. Thanks again for having us!

This is one of Norfolk's gems. This butcher shop also doubles as a luncheonette throughout the week and I loveee it. The staff are super friendly and charming, there's a large array of cool products to try like juices teas and wine. There are also homemade desserts that are always in rotation (one of my faves is the apple cheesecake). My favorite thing to order is The Shepard, which is a Lamb Burger that has goat cheese, peppers and fresh greens. I also love their fries that come with the most amazing garlic aioli. Coming here is always a mini adventure as there's so many books and signs etc. to look at and browse as you wait for your food. They also sell pre-made pasta dough sauce, pepperoni and cheese which is perfect for a build your own pizza night with your family and friends.

The Butcher- I don't really even like roast beef and this was the best sandwich I've ever had. Don't walk, run.

A brief view of the outside seating...it looked like fun!

Amazing roast beef sandwich...great service...great selection of meats! We bought Serrano ham, fresh ground beef from local cows, guanciale, fresh baked bread sourdough. Great experience and service! Thank you! The prices are worth the select cuts of meats! The atmosphere was calm cool and I love the music! Everyone seems so helpful no matter what we had to ask! I wish every restaurant and service industry would be as in tune with true service! You cannot beat excellent and I think they did!

I don't usually write reviews like this, but what happened today deserves to be called out…read more I placed an order for 40 pounds of chicken leg quarters for a family Easter gathering--something that requires planning, coordination, and trust. Yesterday, I even called ahead to confirm hours and made it clear I would be picking up my order today. When I arrived, I was met with complete incompetence. My order was scribbled on a yellow Post-it note--already a red flag--and they had written the wrong date (Monday the 7th). Because of their mistake, they had sold out of chicken and had nothing to give me. No backup plan. No accountability. Nothing. So now, on a major holiday weekend, I'm left scrambling to replace 40 pounds of meat for my family. It gets worse. After leaving, I called and spoke with the owner. I expected at least a basic apology or some attempt to make things right. Instead, I got smug indifference. No ownership, no urgency, no concern. His "solution"? Offer me whole chickens cut into quarters at nearly THREE TIMES the price. That's not a solution--that's taking advantage of your own mistake. When I asked how something like this even happens, his response was essentially: "Well, I guess they wrote it down wrong." That was it. No apology. No effort to fix it. Just a shrug wrapped in arrogance. This wasn't a minor inconvenience--this was a complete failure in customer service, communication, and basic professionalism. If you're trusting this business with an important order, don't. They've shown exactly how little they value their customers when it actually matters. I won't be back.

A solid 4.0 place…read more After driving by this place many times we finally stopped and checked the place out. We didn't buy any meats but looked over what was being offered and seemed fair priced compared to the chain places. My guess is that these would have been way better tasting though. Maybe next time. We just didn't need anything today. Now I will say this besides some nice looking ribeyes, this is clearly the place to go for exotic meats. Frog legs, bison, and alligator just to name a few. We did buy a few sandwich's and our review is based on that. The wifey got herself a roast beef sandwich and I got a ham and cheese. Both were packed with meat. Very filling. Now don't get me wrong you'll pay for these sandwich's but with the meat they stack on you won't be mad. We both like our sandwich's and remember what I said about being full of meat - my wifey brought 1/2 of hers home. As for me - I finished mine but won't be eating an early dinner :). The young lady who made our sandwiches took care of us and the other customers by herself and I think she did real well. The place offers no inside eating but a couple tables outside near the front door that are covered and a couple picnic benches next to the building, uncovered. Today with the sun and heat - covered was our choice. So again after years of passing this place - I'm glad we stopped. Decent sandwiches. I'm sure we will stop in again.

There is a direct indoor passage from La Taqueria Hacienda to MRTL, my youngest and I went to take a peek while we waited for our takeout order. It's a small store but lots of great stuff packed into it. At the front, there are some freezers and fridges with frozen treats (paletas, mangonadas etc) and other prepared goods from local businesses like flan and tres leches from Jessy's. The first front aisle is dedicated to a showcase of Mexican baked goods also brought in from local bakeries. The next few aisles are filled with grocery store items. I love seeing the products that familiar brands release in other markets. Will have to go back for the Palmolive fruity bar soap. It smelled so good ! All the way back, is the butcher with all sorts of meats, both plain and marinated. After we did a once over to see what the store offers, I couldn't help myself with the baked goods. I see/hear about baked goods and it's a trigger word (a good trigger). My eyes start to glaze over and I start making my way over LOL. I stopped a staff member and I asked her about all the goods. I wish she could truly understand the level of my enthusiasm and curiosity and I think she did the best she could to describe all the items, but I made do with what she shared and I just went with what looked good. She said that the case under the La Sabrosita had been delivered that day, so she didn't need to tell me twice. We got 4 things (these are not the proper names as I have no idea, just descriptions): - sugar donut with custard - classic sugar yeasty donut with custard, except, they don't poke a hole and fill it, they slice it in half and slather the custard. I loved this one. - puff pastry with cream inside and then a thin layer of icing type coating on top, and then rolled back in the puff pastry crumbs? These type of pastries tend to be on the dry side. It was pretty straight forward and it was pretty big. - cake/bread with sesame seeds - this reminds me of a homemade pound cake (not store bought) or madeleine type texture, not cake and not bread, in the middle. The size is pretty large (picture those jumbo muffins at Costco that you have to buy two packs) and it's topped with sesame seeds. Great morning item. I loved this one too. - Cinnamon cake - there was a thin layer of a cinnamon mixture at the bottom, majority of the cake/bread and then the top had a crack-ly crust, piped with what looked like a cinnamon stick, but it's actually another edible cake thing. On the drier side, but more meant to be another morning item with coffee or tea. My youngest loved this one with her milk. The items were not small either. The best part of all this, was when I went to pay, I was floored at the final total. I thought she had made a mistake. It was SOOOOO cheap! It was $8 and some change. The girl chuckled at my disbelief and she said the price had gone up. Well, don't mind if I do. I'll definitely be back and check out their meats back there too. Enjoy friends and Happy Latinx Heritage Month!
