My parents moved here in 2017. They have liked it ever since. My Mom passed away in 2023 and my Dad suffers from Dementia and still lives there. He is happy there and they are very attentive. Sure there have been problems here and there but, overall he likes it. read more

My mom, at the age of 99, chose to move to Peninsula del Rey after recovering from a brief illness. Sadly, she passed away just after her 100th birthday. However, her stay at PDR was one of the highlights of her life. She constantly raved about the staff - their professionality, warmth, and availability. The loved the food, actually complaining that it was too good! She took advantage of many of the numerous activities. She LOVED PDR. The staff: My mom bonded with so many staff members. Their warmth was a huge comfort to my mom. They cared deeply about her physical and emotional well-being. The apartment was exceptional. It was well-designed, with ample kitchen counter space, large bathroom, and cozy bedroom. It had lots of light, ample closet space, and a washer/dryer. The facility is kept immaculate - more like a nice hotel than anything else. The apartment cleaners are really very meticulous. Every time I visited my mom, I noticed that this was the cleanest I've ever seen any of her places. The shuttle van was always available for my mom's medical appointments. PDR also offered outings to museums. In summary, I highly recommend PDR to someone who needs assisted living. read more

If I could leave a zero star I would. Please don't trust this place with your loved ones. Our mom was neglected, malnourished and mistreated. We had several agencies investigate and many agreed management and staff are not aligned. The turnover is high and resident seniors suffer. 5 directors in 7 years. After we complained about level of care, we were told to hire a home care. Our lovely seniors deserve better care. read more

Mom has been there for four months now and our family could not be more pleased with Peninsula del Rey. Without knowing anything about these types of facilities and wary of sales tactics, we met Haydee and quickly realized that her main objective was to help us make informed decisions based on what's best for our mother. You can trust her and when making these types of life-altering decisions this was very important to us. Haydee is a godsend; I consider her part of our extended family. From staying in her room to now venturing and "hanging out" in the common areas, Mom is enjoying the friendly staff and other residents. She's even joined some outings to our surprise. Mom was not very social, but she's learning to be to our delight. Her unit is comfortable and all of us (her children), have said that they could easily live there and be happy. The dining room food is better than some restaurants. We eat there about once a week. Yes, service can be slow, meat can be a little dry, but the salads- always cold, crisp, and delicious. Parking inside can be challenging, but there is parking outside so we don't mind. Mom only made use of the caregiving for a short time, but from what we saw all were kind and professional. We definitely recommend Peninsula del Rey. Everyone's needs are different in their twilight years, but this facility has a lot to offer and is worth at least looking into. read more

My husband and I were looking for an independent living facility within a 25-mile radius from our home. Out of the five facilities we checked out, from Los Altos to Foster City then Daly City, we found this gem, Peninsula Del Rey. PDR stood out among the 5 places we checked out- from the charming, efficient and accommodating sales counselor, Lilibeth Naya to the awesome chef Jov, and his dining staff, we knew we would feel right at home Lilibeth was knowledgeable and expert in her field and offered suggestions which were helpful in making our final decision. My husband and I were impressed with how much we felt welcomed and comfortable in the facilities at Peninsula Del Rey. Truly a home away from home feeling of security and comfort. Peninsula Del Rey is a very excellent in social ocassigns. The social director of ZEST, Ms Larona Lumpkins arranged a special birthday movie with decorations for a young friend for me. She decorated the movie theatre with the theme of the movie, gift, ballons and card. Apparently my last review was removed? My mother has lived here for over 6 years and although the place used to be good, it is no longer. Apparently the examples I gave in my last review a few days ago were such that Peninsula Del Rey was able to have it removed? Not sure. Go elsewhere. The place used to be good...even great. But if your family member needs assisted living I'd go elsewhere. I posted a review here a couple of days ago and it was removed. Today, no care staff was assigned to my mother. I was here all afternoon and nobody stopped by like they were supposed to. Nobody came by to get her ready for dinner. I'm somebody who is here almost everyday and can advocate for my mother. Who will advocate for your loved one? I'm currently in contact with the county Ombudsman and am thinking of reporting this facility to the licensing board. Go elsewhere. read more

Hi Dillon, I just wanted to write and tell you that I have been impressed with you and your team's response to the current crisis. My Mom lives there. The automated phone calls make me feel I am right up to date and part of the community. The daily temperature checks of all your residents is a smart & proactive move, as is the distribution of masks. The meal service is also impressive, Mom says they are delicious and your pricing is fair & appreciated. The less Mom needs to go to a store for food etc. the better. But to wrap up, my Mom told me today that she 'just feels safe' there. That is worth a lot to our family. I have been here for almost 4 years. I have enjoyed my time here. The Zest Department team is great and very helpful. Especially with help with IT questions. Larona Lumpkins, the Zest Director is outstanding with managing her team. She always seems to be ready to assist the residents in the community. My family moved my 85 year old father into this facility from Palm Springs after my mothers passing. The facility is very well kept. I am comparing them to the previous 2 my parents were previously in. His apartment is very nice and includes a full kitchen, stove, microwave, dishwasher, washer and dryer. All finishes and fixtures are nice. Maintenance is timely when minor repairs are needed. He gets his apartment cleaned once a week and his bedding changed. There are lovely parlors, a very nice theater for movies which they play every day. PDR offers many daily activities and happy hour on Fridays. The dining options are really nice and the service always very friendly. They were very kind to allow us use of their formal dining area to hold a memorial for my mother. read more

In response to a previous review I have seen a few of the caregiversare working before they are fully trained ,or skilled enough to handle their positions. However, this certainly is not true across the board. There are plenty of caregivers here that are excellent and go above and beyond the call of duty every single day. The untrained and under skilled care giver is rare. But of course since they represent 100% of the treatment you experience in that day it can be especially irritating. The corporate structure seems to make it difficult to have any significant changes happen in a timely way. Also the food in the restaurant has been getting progressively better since they hired the new chef and sous chef. I would give 3 1/2 stars if it was possible. A current resident read more

Buyer beware! SRG only cares about increasing their profits at the expense of your loved ones! Independent Seniors living here have a pretty good life with all the activities, good food, and housekeeping services, and they should if they're paying $4000+/per month for a studio, and $5000+ for a 1-bedroom. Do note that there is a 4% rent increase EVERY YEAR, so $4000 soon becomes $4680/per month after 4 years! Also, if an independent senior has a health problem or accident, management will NOT help, nor allow staff to help for fear of liability. They will only call the hospital without providing aid since the senior is not on an assisted living floor. The 4% yearly rent increase and non-provision of care for independents are unacceptable in a senior living facility. read more

My mom lived at Peninsula Del Rey for the last 16 months of her life; she was 99 when she died. She needed a lot of help. As the months passed she became more and more crippled, needing more and more help. She was on the highest level of care. Many times her meals were not brought to her, her calls for help went unanswered. I was so disappointed in the level of care. In my opinion there were not enough caregivers. And the administrative team - the director, business manager, director of assisted living, all these positions changed over and over. My mother died in June and no one from the facility reached out to me to offer condolences. The only condolences I received were from the two nurses who happened to see me when I was there cleaning out Mom's apartment. Her primary caregiver saw me and said nothing. My daughter was distressed when I mentioned that the facility had not formally reached out to me. She said when her cat died the vet's office sent a lovely note a few days later to offer condolences and see how the family was doing after the loss of their pet. Peninsula Del Rey did not show that level of kindness. read more

A very close friend moved to the Peninsula Del Ray after briefly residing at another senior living center. I have not seen my friend this happy in a long time. In addition, upon my first visit. Every interaction I had with staff and other residents just exuded happiness and calm. Quite a difference from the first place my friend had lived. Jeffrey, at the front desk, is so calm and helpful. Danilo in maintenance is so informative and helpful. In addition, Danilo met with my friend and she is very comfortable with the work that is to be done (very basic work in hanging art work). Last, this move came at such an important time through the relationship between my friend and Minoo, who works there at the Peninsula. To see this night and day difference of my friend and how happy she is with her unit, with the staff and with the activities and level of care from everyone at the Peninsula Del Rey has calmed my heart. I'm full of appreciation of the staff and the work culture there at the Peninsula. It really shows how much they care about the quality of life of and for their residents. On the surface, PDR appears to be great. It's ok if you are independent living. Some care givers are good. Most are not well trained. They changed my parent's incontinence pants but left him sleeping soaking in wet bed pad. During break time, a call for caregiver service might take 25 minutes because there's bad coverage. One caregiver scolds my parent if he has to go to the bathroom often. They don't have enough caregivers, but we don't know why; probably because there's a low population. I won't write about how management stick up for employees who are racists, and provides bad customer service. There has never been a "I am sorry that happened." from management. Food in the dining room is sometimes good, but if you have take out, the entree is so small that you can eat it in two or three bites. Yet, it costs close to $10,000 for a couple to live there. If your parents need assisted living, I was told by a palliative care nurse who visits other facilities that your parents would be better off at a smaller facility where there's more oversight and smaller ratio of residents to caregivers and it would probably be cheaper. read more

Our mother was only in this facility for a month before she passed but her experience and ours was really good. The facility is very clean, with beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces. We ate at the restaurant several times and it was really good. The most striking thing was the staff. From the staff member who gave us the first tour to the housekeeping personnel,the nursing staff and the dining staff. Everyone was so friendly, patient and loving to our Mom.They made it a point to greet our Mom by name. The amount of activities is impressive. We wish our Mom could have participated in more but she loved the bingo, exercise class and concerts. She would have loved to attend the lecture series but was unable at the end. We were welcomed at all hours to visit. read more

My mom-in-law lived at Peninsula Del Rey for almost 2 years. It is a bright, lovely and clean place. The employees here are truly dedicated to making sure that the residents are well taken care of. Mom had a great one bedroom apartment that had all the amenities of home. A washer and dryer, complete kitchen and open concept dining and living room. The bathroom was pretty spacious as well. She was very happy there. Had we ever considered moving her from her apartment when she was a bit younger, I know that she would have enjoyed more of what they offer there. Day trips to lots of fun places, the exercise room, there is a small movie theater there that plays movies twice a day and great food at their restaurant. She was in her 90s so not very mobile. However, she did really enjoy living there and proudly called it her "home". I highly recommend PDR for your loved one. I always had piece of mind that she was well taken care of there. The assisted living employees--from the director to the aids were wonderful and I am so grateful for all that they did for mom. read more

I have never seen humans treated this way before. I am a physician and have worked in dozens of hospitals and clinics nationally and internationally. The caregivers here are mean spirited, badly trained and incompetent. I listened to an aid berate my 94 year old mother for "making her late". Recently they told her to go to bed while she was watching a movie. My mom stated that the movie was not over, which it wasn' and they said "yes it is" and tried to force her to go to bed. My mom stated she would call the police if she was moved before the movie was over. They appear to have no training at all based on their patient skills. They constantly tell my mother that they are understaffed and don't have time for her. If you're interested in giving your loved one a prison like cultural experience, but with less competent staff, consider the Peninsula Del Rey. read more

My grandmother lives here. I try to visit her at least three times a month to see how she is doing. The girl that was in the activities department was very fun and engaging! Her name was Rika and she was so active with the seniors there. My grandmother loved her but I heard she doesn't work there anymore. On my last visit the activities are not as great, the ladies chatter a lot in their office and there is no engagement with the seniors. My grandmother was complaining about the food couple months ago how it was bland. My grandmother did have amazing caregivers but they all left too. There was a guy that worked in the office and he was very helpful and informative but he left as well. It's too bad all the amazing employees are leaving and that's why I'm giving it a 3. It's not bad now but it wasn't like before and I always wondered why people leave this place. I hope to see more activities and more caregivers, but overall it's "eh okay". read more

My 87 year old friend moved in a month ago and I visited her today. She is so happy with the environment (she was in another assisted living in SF before, paying much more) - natural light everywhere, beautiful place like a resort hotel, in house restaurant with good food, her bedroom is spacious. Staff are friendly and professional. I reminded her to respect caretakers' schedule, they need a life too. If residents are considerate they would understand the fact that if one resident delay the schedule by 10 minutes, 6 residents' delay will be an hour overtime for the caretaker. read more
