A friend with increasing dementia has been at PR for almost 2 years. The caring staff are sensitive to her increasing needs and do their best to engage with her. They're very friendly and welcoming, responding to my requests for help within a reasonable amount of time (I'm usually there at lunchtime, so staff are pretty busy with residents who need extra help with their meals). The courtyards are a great bonus. PR has a family room, and every few months a group of us get together to visit our friend, spilling into the adjacent courtyard when the weather allows. The Activities Director maintains a full daily schedule, and creates a colorful and ever-changing holiday or seasonal display, which reduces the "sameness" for the residents. read more

I took my husband second time under Peninsular Reflections care in late 2021, the first time was around the end of 2020, he only stayed there for about three months. I was inexperience and didn't know what I was doing. I thought all the medium size facilities are about the same, so when I found out there were another facility near by has been recently remolded, everything was new, they also had a house cat plus a chicken coop. I thought it would be better for my husband to be in a place where there are animals, because He loves animals. I was wrong, my husband developed a skin issue and lasted for a few months didn't get well. emergency service was called, but the skin problem was getting worse, I finally decided to take him to another smaller facility, under more personal care, my husband finally got over his skin problem. Unfortunately, even though the care was good, but within 3 months, they had to call emergency pick up three times and many phone calls to me because they didn't know how to handle his temperament due to the nature of his Alzheimer's disease. I finally realized I had to contact Peninsular Reflections again because I remember when my husband was at Peninsular Reflections the first time, I was never called due to any problem that my husband had that they couldn't handle. This second time I took my husband back to Peninsular Reflections. It has been 1 1/2 year, I visited my husband regularly, during this year and half, only received one call that my husband had a very small size rash, they informed me and let me know right away, within a week, they work with the doctor and the rash was recovered quickly. That was very efficient and great job. All the staff are friendly and eager to please. They always well come the last minute notice for visitation. To me, that means a lot. It also means they are not trying to make it looking better on the surface when you have an appointment to visit. Making the decision to put my aunt in a nursing home was one of the hardest decisions I had to make. First of all I knew she was going to fight me all the way even though her dementia was worsening to the point that I could not take care of her at home. Peninsula Reflections was there to support me all the way with the transition. They guided me every step of the way. The initial move in day was tough but Kathy and Ann were there to take control and put me at ease. Within 2 weeks I visited my aunt and saw a complete change. She was accepting of the new living conditions and even made comment how nice the people were. I'm very grateful for Peninsula Reflections support and wonderful care for my aunt. read more

When the time came that my mom could not be cared for safely at home, I had the difficult job of finding the right place for her. I visited several care homes and as soon as I saw Peninsula I knew this was it. Mom has lived here now for 4 years and I don't know where I'd be without them. They are like family and they treat my mom as family. She is safe, her medications are managed and she is surrounded by a stimulating environment. I visit as often as I can. During the Pandemic everyone took great care to be safe. I feel so fortunate that mom is there and I'm thankful every day! read more

I thoroughly enjoyed entertaining the wonderful residents, family members and staff at Peninsula Reflections! The event was very well attended and coordinated and the facility seemed to be run extremely well with an attentive and caring staff. The residents appeared welll cared for and happy. This facility doesn't meet the needs of people who are not independent. The newest executive director allows her staff to do the bear minimum. My father's room was dusty, his restroom was rarely cleaned, his diaper wasn't changed, and I would come in to give my father a sponge bath because they refused to give him a shower. Another big issue was the executive director 's refusal to comply with his doctor's order to crush his medication. Without his medication, his behavior was uncontrollable. I would often get phone calls at 10 p.m. from the executive director complaining about my father, yet still refusing to provide his medication per doctor's crush order. I have since moved my dad to a facility that complies with state regulations. I don't recommend this facility for residents with memory care issues. read more

Peninsula Reflections (PR) was our choice for an assisted living facility for our mom. We evaluated a large number of facilities from Daly City to Burlingame. Peninsula Reflections is not the newest or fanciest but it is always kept clean. The administration makes it a point to know each resident by name (sometimes they sang to Mom). The caregivers are patient,kind, and attentive to the needs of all of the residents. The food is tasty and made to accommodate the dietary requirements of everyone. The recreation staff always have a variety of daily activities. My auntie is a new resident and we have been very pleased with this facility so far. It's a bit on the new(er) side compared to the majority of places we visited previously. Everything is great looking with good sized common rooms and living spaces and a very engaged and fun staff. We are love the fact that auntie's new home focuses on interacting with her, even though she does not talk often. We have often seen her caretakers speak to her, knowing there won't be much of an answer but still engage while watching how long it takes her to attempt a reply and gauge her health and responsiveness in other such subtle ways. For such a better caretaker ratio and experienced and dedicated staff, this is also almost $2k less than the previous place, that's $20k a year! Other than the previous place being within walking distance to shopping, small lunch spots and a good area for Uncle to stretch his legs, there hasn't been a downside. There has also been a lot of fun activity daily where staff and residents participate in for both introverts and extrovert personalities. Auntie doesn't respond often, it's something interesting for her to be around and look at. Uncle, who still visits regularly, also appreciates something to alleviate the somewhat monotonous day even tho he doesn't mind the chore. read more

Peninsula Reflections is a God send. My sister, brother and I had many sleepless nights before we made the difficult decision to place my mother in a facility. After our research and taking a tour of Reflections we knew this was the place for our family. My mom was very weak and her growing dementia made her so vulnerable. After the first few days of almost never leaving her side - we realized that we made the right choice in placing her at Reflections. Mom was happy and always well kept and clean and most of all safe. All the employees were happy doing their jobs with purpose. They engaged with mom and made her laugh. I witnessed them always being kind and gentle and patient. In addition, Mom was well fed with their deliciously prepared food. When people ask me about the facility I say - the Directors, Grace Han Liu Reyes, Jill Nakagawa, Jessica Dillon and the Executive Chef, Rudy Domingo are angels sent from heaven. They set the high standards and the tone for the rest of the caregivers and employees. They are extremely professional and know how to care for the residents and their special needs. All the employees are extremely happy and take their jobs in caring for the residents seriously. My family and I came to see the the employees at Reflections as an extension of our family who only had moms best care in mind. Reflections also had many activities and always were preparing for the next holiday celebration. These holiday celebrations were filled with lots of decorations, laughter, happiness and so much good food. The families of all the residents were encouraged to join and have access to their loved ones 24/7. I can't say enough good things about Reflections. I did get satisfaction, shortly after my review. As I said, the the caregivers were great, and my husband was happy. My concern was, that after his unexpected death, the administration dragged their heels on returning the unused portion of the fee. I had both of my parents in this community. The staff here were very caring and compassionate not just to my parent but to all of the residents. My mother used to love going out with the group and my dad loved the activities and music. I want to share my gratitude to all Peninsula Reflections staff as well as the directors as they assisted me and guided me every time I needed them the most. I am happy that both of my parents were here and enjoyed their stay when they were still alive. read more

Facility Really large beautiful facility with lots large windows that fill the place with light. Best designed building that I have seen--hallways form a circle so that residents who like to walk (like my father) can continuously walk laps. Administration They are very experienced, knowledgable and passionate about wanting to help seniors with dementia. Their mission is to provide the best care for each resident and the care is customized to what the resident needs and wants. My father was in two other homes before this one and those homes expected him to fit into the home's routine. He did poorly in them and was considered a behavior problem. Here he is flourishing! Caregivers The caregivers are kind, caring and patient. They really like the residents and spend their time making their days as pleasant as possible. They talk to my father even though when he arrived he rarely spoke. Every day I notice that my father is talking more and looking happier. He even laughed yesterday. My father seems to be in stage 6 of Alzheimer's Disease and has very limited memory and abilities, but the caregivers are still looking for activities that engage him. Yesterday, they showed me how he enjoyed playing a game where he throws a bean bag at a target. He played 3 games! At his last home he never participated in any activities. Food The chef used to work in a gourmet restaurant. Her food is delicious! read more

Facility presents well with new furnishings and paint. Activities do not include any religious services. Incompetent director and staff who prefer cooperative and well-functioning patients requiring minimal care. Those patients with nursing and/or memory care not recommended at this facility. Staff will neglect the medication and hygienic needs of "uncooperative" patients. Director and staff have shown to be incapable of handling more than the most mild circumstances. If your loved one requires nursing and/or memory care, but isn't "behaving", you will receive middle of the night phone calls from staff. Not much better than an inexperienced babysitter. read more

A stellar reminiscence care facility. I enjoy facilitating chair fitness classes for these wonderful residents at Peninsula Reflections. The residents are very social, interactive and happy. My mother came into PR as high functioning, with the start of dementia. She was very social, active individual. A year later, she couldn't walk, didn't want to eat, and didn't want to move out of her bed. She had suffered a very serious bladder infection that required hospitalization for a week as well as a sustained fall at the facility that should have been stitched up. Instead, the staff wrote up her wound as an abrasion, which resulted in months of healing/infection, etc. (it's now a 2 1/1-3inch scar on her arm). Due to all of this, she was very weak and did not have the strength to cut up her food (so she was not eating). Every day the heads of PR would say your mom eats 50-75% of her food, but in one month's time, she lost 12 pounds (she is a tiny woman to begin with). We tried time and time again to work with the Director to improve the quality of care but were met with resistance. Director said they could not help her eat, could not bathe her if she didn't want to be bathed, could not make her get out of bed. Essentially we were told our mom is just near the end of her life and we should let her go. We were told to hire/pay for someone to come into the facility to help our mom during the week since the family couldn't. So on top of almost paying $8000 a month for PR, their solution to take care of our mom was to hire a private helper. At the urging of hospice and her doctor, we looked for a new facility to move her to. We have been told that PR is not an environment for anyone that is not high-functioning. Since the move, everyone is amazed at how well she is doing. You would never know she was the same person from just a few months ago. A little over two months at a new facility and she is talking, singing, laughing, eating, etc. She is definitely not ready to leave this world and is enjoying life again. Please DO NOT SEND anyone you love to PR. Has been the worst experience and I did not even go into detail about the lack of cleanliness (saw an individual have a bathroom accident in her chair that then went all over the floor under her chair in the dining room and the staff looked around to see if anyone was watching before they dropped her cloth napkin to the floor and used her foot to wipe up the urine and kicked it under the table). read more

I recently had the need to look for a care facility for an ailing friend. I was referred to Peninsula Reflections and what a nice surprise I found. We were assisted by Jill, the Manager and what a gracious person she is. We got a tour and all the needed information. The facility was clean, bright and had a very upbeat and professional staff. Two days later Jill came to the house to meet my friend and brought lunch for three of us so we could try the cuisine. Jill continued to check on my friend who was reluctant to leave her home. Jill took her on a tour as well and continued to check in. Even though my friend decided to die at home, Jill continued to check in and even attended the funeral. I would recommend this facility and the entire staff to anyone looking for a place for a loved one. It was so nice, two of my friends and I are ready to move in. It was a truly nice surprise to find such caring people in this day and age. read more

My mother was there for two weeks when my sister discovered that her incision near her groin, from heart valve replacement surgery, had become seriously red and infected, oozing pus. Nobody there noticed it! In fact they had put a diaper on her. She had to go to ER and remained in the hospital for two weeks with a PICC line and wound vacuum management. She has just recently moved to a "real" care facility where she will remain for several weeks. We filed a complaint with the proper authorities. read more

We were all set to place my sister, who is 58 and has younger-onset Alzheimer's, in another facility in San Francisco. They notified us that a space was not available for her, and recommended we look at Peninsula Reflections which had just opened in April. We toured the facility and loved it immediately. It feels like home - it has a beautiful and spacious community room, a lovely dining room, good food, and each bedroom is furnished and has a private bathroom. The executive director, wellness director, activities director and marketing director are all amazing. Each one is extremely sensitive and knowledgeable. The staff are so positive and gentle and give each resident the individual care they require. My sister requires one-to-one assistance for all ADL (activities of daily living) and the staff are able to meet her needs. The activities director is continually looking for stimulating activities for the residents - in just two weeks my sister has participated in flower arranging, exercise class, dancing, sing-a-longs with a live piano player, and has helped bake cookies. It feels wonderful to know that she is being so well-cared for. I would highly recommend this facility for any family looking for a wonderful, caring, facility for their loved one with dementia. read more
