However, her stay at PDR was one of the highlights of her life. She constantly raved about the staff - their professionality, warmth, and availability. The loved the food, actually complaining that it was too good! She took advantage of many of the numerous activities. She LOVED PDR. The staff: My mom bonded with so many staff members. Their warmth was a huge comfort to my mom. They cared deeply about her physical and emotional well-being. The apartment was exceptional. It was well-designed, with ample kitchen counter space, large bathroom, and cozy bedroom. It had lots of light, ample closet space, and a washer/dryer. The facility is kept immaculate - more like a nice hotel than anything else. The apartment cleaners are really very meticulous. Every time I visited my mom, I noticed that this was the cleanest I've ever seen any of her places. The shuttle van was always available for my mom's medical appointments. PDR also offered outings to museums. In summary, I highly recommend PDR to someone who needs assisted living.

However: The ED when I signed up assured me that she could keep monthly rent including cost of care below $6000 for a couple years. Of course I couldn't get that in writing yet I was so proud of myself for juggling and liquidating assets to come up $72k/yr, but management changed even though I never received notice. Sadly, I have to place my mom elsewhere as the monthly rent, including cost of care, went from $5800 to $6125 in March to $7650 in April. That's $91+k per year. And I'm supposed to be able to come up with a 24% increase in a snap. And because I still have a small balance because I haven't found the extra $ yet, the company is charging me several $250 late fees each month ‍. I've paid the necessary late fees ($250) when I was truly late with rent. The company refused to restore use of the online rent payment company 'Rent Cafe' that had been available in the beginning of my mom's stay, but after about six months, I'm happy to share that they've finally started using it again. I just signed the newest lease of $6150 backdated to March 1, which I've paid but I haven't been able to cough up the extra $1500/month. Not sure how they can charge it because my latest less is for $6150. There's a new ED but she has yet to reach out to me except to send me a letter threatening my outstanding balance be sent to collections even though I'm making payments every single mont. Feels like bait and switch to me. The president of the family owned business(es)/ventures, Deepak Israni, has no health care credentials and is ''responsible for acquisitions, disposition, development, financing and asset management for all property types for Pacifica Companies." (bio on PacificaCompanie.com). There've been several judgements against the company in the last year, and Pacifica is declaring bankruptcy for one of their holdings. Guess this is why they're screwing us...I'm sure management salary has increased though. I am truly sad that I cant afford to keep my mom there as I love the staff. #corporategreed #noprofitforhealthcare #dementiasucks #singlepayernotmilitary

As care managers,…read morewe're often in and out of many senior living communities across the Bay Area, and AlmaVia consistently stands out for its mission-driven approach and genuine commitment to resident well-being. The building maintains solid staffing ratios, and it shows. Residents receive attentive, compassionate care, and the team always takes the time to greet you with warmth and professionalism. During my last visit there the Sales Counselor, Kara, took the time to step outside and talk with one of the residents about a problem he was having, and she showed such a lovely compassion and way of following up on the issue. There's a noticeable culture of kindness and respect here, not just toward visitors and families, but most importantly, toward the residents. It's clear that the staff are well-trained, engaged, and truly care about the people they support. In a region where finding quality care at an affordable rate can be a real challenge, AlmaVia offers a meaningful balance. It's a great option for families looking for person-centered memory care in a supportive, mission-aligned environment.

It is so hit or miss depending on who the care providers are. Some are really amazing and have their hearts in the right place and do an amazing job of caretaking for a very vulnerable and challenging clientele. There are others who do the bare minimum and you can tell that they hate their job and are only there for the money. The manager Aaron is the worse. So unresponsive and does not manage the staff well. He's hardly ever on site so he doesn't see what is going on. Sometimes they are so understaffed, it's not only negligent, it's dangerous. I couldn't recommend the garden area (the memory care area) for anyone I cared for. Oh and it is soooo expensive for the really crappy food and super small rooms and problematic service. Don't be fooled by the great tour they give, you won't get all of the amenities that the regular residents have access to.

I found Westborough Royale on Yelp, toured that Saturday and moved her in a few days afterwards. The things we liked most are: It's very conveniently located (1 mile away from home) The cost was extremely competitive compared to all the other facilities we toured The longevity of the staff. The few times that they've had to call me, they've always started the conversation with "Your mom's OK". I'm sure they understand the concern when you see Westborough Royale on your Caller ID. If you're looking for a super modern, locked down facility, this is not for you. But if you're looking for a "homey" feel, Westborough Royale should be one of the first facilities you tour. The only negatives are: Depending on the time of day, parking can be a bit tough. There have been times where I've had to sit in the parking lot up to an hour waiting for a spot to open up. There's usually street parking on Camaritas if you don't mind a short walk. And if you're coming here for the first time, you might not notice the front entrance. At this point, we've been there for about 6 month now. The staff and residents are all very friendly. I'm very fortunate to have found Westborough Royale.

I toured 8 facilities in total and eventually settled on WR because of two main reasons- staff longevity and lack of (even unfounded) complaints on the licensing website. I used to be a hospice social worker and have visited dozens of assisted living facilities and I know how hard it is to accomplish both of those things. From day one the staff has been thoughtful, conscientious, and so very kind. They have welcomed not only my grandpa, but our family, every step of the way. When he was recently in the hospital they even turned his TV on for his cat so she wouldn't be lonely! They shampooed his carpet the first day he was gone so it would be nice when he came back. They think ahead, they communicate proactively, they pay attention to residents' preferences, adapt quickly to changes, and the staff truly seem happy working there. I cannot recommend WR enough. I am so grateful.

While a locked ward is never where you want your parent to end up, I couldn't be more pleased with the attention my mom is receiving. She has vascular dementia and not Alzheimer's, so while it is is extremely hard to watch her decline, her physical symptoms are not particularly worrisome, so perhaps she requires less attention than someone who is a fall risk or is so agitated that they are a physical threat to the staff. This is very difficult work, and while it would be amazing to have 1:1 attention for my mom, whenever I visit her (now I have to wear a mask and stand 7 feet away) she is well groomed, happy and relaxed. I worry a lot so I find myself calling quite a bit to check in. The activities staff is very attentive and even the caregiving staff has shown a good deal of devotion to my mother, especially given the current pandemic. I can sleep at night knowing there are no Covid cases and that they are exceptionally careful about who is allowed to enter the facility. While on the face of it, Aegis is quite expensive, I work in the field and know that other facilities in SF cost literally TWICE as much. It is a shame that adult care is so expensive, but I believe Aegis is a very good deal considering our other options. I am grateful to have found this place and can't say enough good things about the director, the activities staff, and the host of other workers who keep my mother safe.
