Grounds and Theatre was beautiful. We saw Steel Magnolias and it was decent. There were times that we could not hear some of the actors. It was a bit expensive for what it was. I recommend getting there early and walking the grounds and walking to see the water. read more

We come to Door County every year for the DCC (century bike ride) and always go to a play on Sat night of that weekend. This theater is so beautiful, nestled in a cedar tree forest, open to the air on the sides. Before the show we got a cocktail (a Door County cherry fizz) and sat by the lake and enjoyed the sunset. There was also a campfire we stood by as it was a bit chilly out. The play was fantastic! We saw "The Stranger "- an Agatha Christie mystery that kept us guessing, even at the end. The actors were so incredible, we are always amazed at the high quality productions at Peninsula Players Theater. read more

It's all been said before, our week in DC started with driving straight to the Theatre for The Stranger. We had cocktails outside in the garden on the lake with the wind and waves gently rolling in. The scene was set. The Theatre was very comfortable. Row D and we were right in the thick of it. The whole Production was first class. My background is Production and the 5 actors were tremendous, the dying scene at the end deserved its own round of applause, costumes were spot on and LX and Stage management flawless. Pablo was wary going in as he is a big Agatha Christie fan but came out very pleased. Highly recommended. read more

This is a delightful little theater tucked away in the woods. We've come to a number of performances here over the years and they've all been fun summer theater productions. This time we saw Romance in D which was a sweet, romantic comedy, after a somewhat dark first scene. The acting was excellent and the sound, lighting and scenery were all well done. They've just renovated the main theater and it is beautiful. The sides completely open which works well right now to reduce Covid risk. They were also only seating every other row and leaving space between parties. Masks weren't required in mid-September, and I'd estimate only about half were wearing them. Parking is well organized, and the mass exit after the show somehow works well without major backups! read more

Lovely theater in a beautiful natural setting. The theater is in a building but is surrounded by large open air windows. Bring a wrap or jacket for evening performances. Show up early so you can enjoy the view. Bring a picnic. They have a good number of picnic tables. There are some chairs provided for sitting near the lake. Our play had an intermission which gave us time to hang out by the bonfire and enjoy the beautiful sunset. Talented young actors and great set scenery. House staff everywhere were friendly and helpful. They will steer you toward one of two parking lots, one with stairs and the other with a lower level entry. If you enjoy theater, be sure to put this stop on your itinerary! read more

Wow! The Peninsula Players are in their 74th year of entertaining audiences who vacation in this quaint village in Door County, WI. What started in the 30's as a boys camp with a barn like theater on the property, has turned into a state of the art theater. This is the "oldest professional summer resident theater" in the country. Actors come in from all over the US to perform and are housed on the beautiful property. I haven't been to see them in almost 20 years, so I got tickets for this past weekend to see them in their new theater. When I last went- the theater was more like an old barn- rustic, hot on those hot nights and chilly on the cool ones. Today- that theater is still rustic in it's approach but modernly, beautifully, rustic. The beautiful cedar wood walls slide open to make you feel like you are in a "theater in a garden", the open beamed ceiling is reminiscent of a barn, the seats are spacious, comfortable and with plenty of leg room, and there is old fashioned lighting throughout. And even with all this modernity, there are still the spectacular sunsets, cedar tree lined pathways through the gardens, walkways along the beauty of the Green Bay shoreline, and gardens, where the scents waft around you as you walk in the Summer months. It was chilly on the night I was there- yet the heated floors kept me warm (along with the blanket I had remembered to bring, thinking of the last time I was there). When looking for seats- go for the middle, back. Somewhere around the aisle (between rows H and K) would probably be best. We were a little too close to the stage and spent most of the time looking up (although you felt like you were one with the actors watching them sweat!) There is a small concession stand that is open before the show and during intermission. Parking is free and well orchestrated with people telling you where and how to park so exiting is a breeze. The Peninsula Players do about 5 different plays throughout the course of the season. Tickets are cheap and run between $30 and $35 each. Next time you are looking for something a little different to do on your visit to Door County, take in a play. It's a great way to be entertained and to take in a little bit of Door County history. read more

Theatre in a garden is their motto but I think of it as in a forest! Make some memories for yourself and your children, catch a play here. I went here first when I was in H.S. and I adored it - there is just something so tranquil and nurturing about this location. The art of the theatre seems to create itself. I was here this month and hadn't been since 2003 so I was in for a real treat - they rebuilt the theatre in 2006, keeping all the magic and adding some modern conveniences -like super comfortable seats and amazingly generous leg room. I wish they had these seats in Chicago theaters - and on airplanes. The grounds are so lovely, we got here early and just stared at the sunset. Gorgeous! It really puts you in the right frame of mind for the magical experience that is live theatre. The show must go on - make sure you catch one. read more

If you are staying in Door County, I would advise you to do the Players Theatre for a wonderful nite of entertainment. Very pleasant surroundings and beautiful grounds an amphitheater. We love plays. Just about any play is fun. Our first visit here was for the last performance of the 2017 season. The theme was cute and quite well played by the four actors. The biggest negative was it was very hard to hear the actors. They used no amplification of any kind despite that the theatre could hold in the neighborhood of 500+ people. Had the theatre been anything more than half full, i doubt that we would have heard anything at all. We have seen stage plays in larger theatres before and the actors always used wireless mics. We prefer the smaller, more infimate theatres. It is easier to "get into" the play and bond with the actors in their respective rolls. We sat in the second section and paid $41 per ticket. The closest section several dollars more and the third section a few dollars less, pretty steep for a play where it was hard to hear the actors! read more

A group of us RVers went to see the play George Washington's Teeth. Was supposed to be a comedy. Performers did a really good job. Unfortunately, the play itself was NOT funny!!! It was BORING!!! WORST PLAY I HAVE EVER been too! NOT worth the $100 it cost us to see it. read more

The plays are really not the attraction here - it's the setting. Seeing a play in nature is great but wear bug spray. They provide it if you don't have your own. Besides the trees and sunset, the seats and leg room are better than I have found anywhere else. I'd come again but I'd wear bug spray. read more

OMG. What a disappointing play. We were last here to see the Patsy Cline play. That was fantastic. Saw George Washington's Teeth tonight and left with the feeling this was filler material that was rejected at other theaters. When the Beverly Hillbillies did a show about George Washington's teeth it was funny. This one actually made me felt sorry for the actors who were doing their best to get a laugh with bad material. Will be back next year, but I will look for actual reviews before wasting $90 at your place. read more

Absolutely beautiful spot. We came to watch a mystery-comedy play here and loved it. You really should get here 30 mins ahead of time just to enjoy the sunset over the water. It's absolutely stunning. The theater itself is in a gorgeous setting. Open walls gives you a real theater-in-garden feel. The play was well-acted and engaging. We saw Lend Me a Tenor here last Tuesday. What a great place. The theater itself is awesome. Cushy seats, tiered sections for great views, and beautiful grounds (lakeside, courtyard lit by strings of lights, intermission bonfire by the outside bar). The play was wonderful. Talented cast (especially the leads playing the two tenors), funny, and just a thoroughly enjoyable evening. The ONLY downside is the impatience of people leaving the parking lot after the show. Watch those cars! read more

My husband and I went fairly early before the show and very much enjoyed walking through the gardens and watching the gorgeous sunset. We took a lot of wonderful pictures! We have attended every production this summer and enjoyed every show immensely. The atmosphere and actors are excellent! However, we were not happy with the political comments in the latest production, 'George Washington's Teeth.' Audience goers are from all walks of life and we come to PP to be entertained and get away from all the political craziness. The comments really offended us. read more

The grounds of the theatre was magical. Prior to the show we enjoyed a cocktail and sat on a bench swing near the lake watching the sun beginning to set. There is not a bad seat in the house and it was very cool to have the walls on the two sides of the theatre open to the gardens. We saw The Full Monty... everything from the acting, to the music, to the lighting and production was superb. The quality was on par with something you would see in Chicago, NYC, or LA. Always a great place to watch a live play. I come here yearly and have watch some great shows. Nunsense is the funniest musical comedy I have ever seen. There was audience interaction. The bonfire is traditional before the show and good time to get your photo with the sunset. There usually an intermission to buy treats and use the facility. read more

I was embarrassed for my family that I shelled out over $200 to purchase tickets for 5 people to see "George Washington's Teeth" on October 18th. The script was awful - complete with stereotypes, and the inclusion of narcolepsy for one of the characters that made no sense and was a completely unnecessary comedic (NOT!) device. There was not one line at which I was able to laugh or even chuckle. I couldn't even bring myself to applaud and felt fortunate that I didn't have to sit through two acts. I've spent less money seeing professional theater productions that were 10 times more enjoyable than this disaster of a production. This is the second time I've witnessed a less-then-professional play at Peninsula Players and I've now vowed never to return. Unfortunately, since seeing this play we know of four others who saw it as well on different weekends and shared the same feeling as I do. What an unfortunate way to end their 2019 summer season! We love the setting and the theater itself but can't stomach throwing our money away at future events. Additionally, there should be a warning to ticket purchases that the theater is not heated and be advised to wear layers or bring blankets. read more

Peninsula Players are in a magical setting. The bonfire near the bayshore during intermission was mesmerizing. But it is preposterous and virtually an insult to a fantastic cast to say the plays are not the attraction. We saw "Lend Me a Tenor" last night, and the professionalism, comic timing, singing ability, and energy of the cast was as good as you'd see in the best productions at the Goodman Theater, Shakespeare Theater, and other major venues in Chicago. Why? Because most of the actors regularly perform in those venues. (and many on national TV series, just read the program). Having seen a fair amount of Broadway and off-Broadway, I'd say the Peninsula Players could do credit to that venue as well. So enjoy a wonderful setting that cannot be matched in New York or Chicago, but remember that "the play's the thing." The Peninsula Players deliver. read more
