I have been attending shows for over 25 years. They continue to surprise with new shows and new young talent. I recently attended a performance of Something in the Water. When we arrived in the beautiful outdoor theater in Peninsula Park the crew was hard at work drying the stage and uncovering set pieces after the rain. The audience was close to a sell out. We had 2nd row middle seats. We were given a seat.cushion and handed towels to dry our seats. The show started and within 10 minutes it started to rain . The show went on and the audience stayed huddled under hoodies , rain suits, and blankets. No one left because the show had already sucked them in to the story corny jokes and all. The Gould Theater is gorgeous inside and the patio area outside is very nice. The Peninsula Players Theater is larger, so there isn't as much seating in the Gould Theater comparatively, but every seat has a good view because of the smaller setting. No need to stress about what seats to purchase. We didn't love the play we saw, so that was a disappointment, but would consider going back for a different one because of how nice the theater was. read more

The fall show, the Bachelors, was smart, funny and entertaining. If you're not familiar with Northern Sky's original musical comedies, this would be a good introduction. My friends loved the show and we took advantage of the 4:00 Friday curtain to go out to dinner. Thanks to Larry on the staff for his excellent recommendation as well. It's worth it to get on their mailing list and catch whichever ones you can--I loved all 3 summer shows ! And Home for the Holidays is a great evening. What a quaint theater tucked up in the door! Went for the film festival, which was totally awesome. Saw the feature film "Love Differently" directed by Emma Siewert. The theater was modern, ample parking and entrances in a wooded area, which definitely felt like up north very peaceful. There were concessions and enough for restrooms. We have enjoyed Northern Sky Theater for many years. We had booked two shows while in Door Co. The weather the first night at the outdoor theater was cloudy and unfortunately it did start to rain during the performance so it was cancelled. We did receive a rain check for a future show. The plays are original productions with Wisconsin themes in the plays. The plays are fresh and wholesome. read more

Our experience with "Fish Whisperer" could not have been more awful. All I knew ahead of time was the blurb offered on the flyer: "When the fish stop biting in the small Wisconsin town of Shewauga, a mysterious outsider named Hannah Hill offers to get them biting again--but only if the residents pay her $10,000! To the locals, this all sounds a bit fishy. Is she a con artist or a genuine talent? Brimming with hope and romance, The Fish Whisperer is a world premiere musical that will hook you with sweet melodies and laughs!" My 70-year-old father has been an avid fisherman for decades. The show was not really about fishing. The show cannot be accurately described as a comedy as there was no audience laughter in response to the show. It was a homosexual love story in strong opposition to my father's values. It conveyed the ecological detriment of fishing without a balanced viewpoint of sustainable fishing. It would have been helpful if the humor and storyline centered more on actual fishing rather than contemporary social media jokes which my 75-year old aunt didn't catch. As a regular theater goer, I understand that it is art and a medium to express a variety of life experiences and values. Prior to attending this theater company, carefully review all available information as you may not find it a family-friendly, easy-going vacation experience. We certainly didn't. read more

We cannot get enough of Northern Sky Theater and beautiful Peninsula State Park! We recommend the plays to everyone we know when they tell us that they are heading to Door County. A shout out to Chase Stoeger- who happens to be our favorite actors! He always has us in stitches! What a talent! We suggest making a day at Peninsula State Park before your evening show. A Door County must! We have taken family and friends every year. This year so far: Fish Whisperer and Cheeseheads! The Musical- both at the outdoor ampitheater. Pure delight (and the space itself- the trees! the stars! the smell of pine! is part of the magic). Great fun all around. At the indoor Gould, we've seen Guys On Ice and Guys & Does. Brilliant acting, great voices, heartwarming in every way. Perfect for all ages. Kids especially will love the outdoor theater shows. We call it "theater with heart". read more

Wow! We were so impressed with this beautiful new theater venue! We've been patrons for many years and we're so proud of this accomplishment. We attended the last showing of Dad's Season Tickets. We arrived early and had a little time to stroll around the grounds. They are so lovely and inviting! The new theater is very comfortable and and, of course, the quality of entertainment was exceptional! We had front row seats and it really wasn't too close. We loved the music and sets. So much detail was put into the set. That alone was fascinating! We loved how the extended sides of the stage were incorporated into the scenes- so well done! Keep it up and Go Packers! P.S. This is a Door Co. MUST DO! We saw the world premiere of Dairy Heirs, a comedy and musical about farming, and we laughed the entire time! The actors and actresses were absolutely phenomenal, and kept us entertained the entire time! The atmosphere is unlike anything I've ever been to, it is very serene walking back into the woods away from "light pollution" to watch a great show under the stars! Family friendly, very reasonable, over all great time! read more

This is an amazing venue! Terrific performances in "Love Stings" especially from the understudy female lead - she is certainly worthy of the role full time. We saw this last night. Outstanding! As a season ticket holder as well as watching the Lombardi Packers with my dad winning the first two Super Bowls, I could relate and laugh. The material was very real to me as I've experienced the Packers for years, as well the Sunday's win over the Broncos at Lambeau. It's just an experience you never forget. As well as the dilemma who will end up with my season tickets. We will be back for another play the next time we drive over for another game in Green Bay. read more

Don't miss this outdoor theater experience with your family. Under the stars, deep in the woods of Peninsula State Park is a treasure. Northern Sky Theater is a family friendly theater that was fun for our entire family. Even our teens laughed out loud during the comedy we saw, Dairy Heirs. The cast was great and not only performed but I believe every single one also played instruments at some time during the show. What a talented group. There is a 15 minute drive from the park entrance to the parking area (free) and then a five minute walk on a rock path to the actual theater. Concessions and souvenirs available. Bug spray available (donation requested) or bring your own. Don't brave Wisconsin mosquitos without the spray. Those flying annoyances are large and well fed. Seating is less expensive if you choose to stand in line and pick your own seat (like Southwest Airlines). For a small up charge, you get an assigned seat near the front and a great cushion provided for your backside...best seat cushion ever, no joke. Enjoy the show and the stars. Saw Dairy Heirs. Tremendous venue in the woods with talented actors and actresses. If you are camping you will receive a $5 savings for each ticket upon check in. Would give it 5 stars if it wasn't for one of the attendants(who hand out the cushions for the seating and help direct reserved seating) berating me for snapping a photo right at the opening. She was on me like a fly on a cow patty. Granted I made a mistake but still I mentioned there are no signs saying no picture-taking(as a reminder) but she went on and on and caused more of a disturbance to everyone around us with her snotty and inappropriate method of handling the situation. She was the type who must go well beyond making their point to the extent of nausea. Not exactly decent Wisconsin hospitality. People who overheard and were disturbed by her tirade looked at me and rolled their eyes. read more

I have been coming to Northern Sky Theater for a long time. Each play is its own and I love them all. What makes the Northern Sky Theater it's own is that they have an outdoor theater in the middle of the wilderness. It is really special to watch a play under the stars. Most recently I saw the play Windjammers which was outstanding and the first time I saw a standing ovation given to the actors. This just a wonderful theater company. read more

Went to see Dairy Heirs last night. What a talented group of performers! They not only act and sing, they also play the instruments. I was surprised how busy it was when we arrived about an hour before the show. Get there early! We did not get open seating in the first three rows even with arriving an hour early. If you have stadium chairs I would recommend bringing them. I always forget how sore my back gets on wood benches until I'm 30 minutes into sitting . Fun experience! read more

The theatre under the stars is unlike anything you'd find in the big cities. The reserved seats that come with a seat cushion was worth the extra cost although I'd bring some extra padding to put on top of the cushion. We saw Lumberjacks In Love and it was hilarious. I was so impressed by the acting, the musicianship (the actors play instruments as well as sing/act), and the production value. The ability of the actors to improvise when ambient noise or unexpected emergencies arose demonstrated real talent! Bravo! read more

Totally entertaining show!! We saw "When Butter Churns To Gold." You couldn't help but smile and laugh. Our son is 11 and gave it a big thumbs up too. Really talented actors and musicians. Friendly ushers. We can't wait for our next trip to Door County - another show will definitely be on our list. A few tips. Tried to buy online tickets with no success. Drove to the box office the day before the show and secured reserved seating. Nice to have an assigned, cushioned seat for a few extra dollars. Beautiful drive through the park to get to the venue. Be sure to allow plenty of time, as it's a long, windy drive and then a walk through the woods to the theatre. Can't say enough about this fantastic experience!! read more
