While I had an alright time from 4-8th grade, despite the bullying and class work struggles, high school was a pretty poor experience. I was never a popular kid, which makes it harder in these schools as I felt that the popular and rich kids were always the better treated. I and a few others had an unfortunate experience at GHHS with an administrator who illegally kicked people out of school because of their mental health, or because she didn't like them. There is no proof of it happening, because she went against the district guidelines for handling "expulsion" type things. She was discriminatory and two-faced. Two years later after being in a better situation at Henderson Bay, the alternative high school, I felt ok to report what had happened and was essentially brushed off and invalidated. I emailed the Superintendent, at the time knowing she would've cared, only for her to tell me that I should work on that with my teachers in college to ensure that will not happen again. It is unfortunate that unless it is for sports, the district probably won't help you in these complaints. I had some wonderful teachers, and a few were mean, practically bullies to the entire class, blaming them for failing a test after everyone failed, so it was bittersweet. My mind really changed on this school district, after feeling it was good, once I graduated. It feels like they only REALLY care about the kids in sports, the popular kids, and the kids with rich families. Being an adult you really see the reality. read more

We moved here from Mercer Island and have been quite pleased with PHS. The teachers have been better than I anticipated, my daughter has been very happy and says the chemistry teacher is excellent. Overall it has been a remarkably good experience, which I was not expecting because of the general state of public schools and covid. I am very grateful for this. I gave 4 instead of 5 stars as there was not much help for newcomers in transitioning- we had to hunt down the bussing information, I had to ask for info on how parents connect, etc. they ought to have a newcomers packet! read more

The teachers aren't The best and kpms middle school is not the cleanest looking back on the experience I might send my kid to Harbor Ridged

The leadership in this district is a disgrace. The teachers are entitled, rude and unprofessional. I highly recommend private school in this area. I love our teachers and the relationships are night and day compared to PSD. read more

Awesome school district, through and through. I went to Evergreen Elementary, then KPMS, and then on to PHS, where I had a fabulous GPA and ended up with a full-ride for fast pitch and basketball. Great teachers, great coaches, great school. GO SEAHAWKS!!! read more

Ghetto! Unfortunately I don't think you can ever win with public schools but, hey, you learn some life lessons. Out of 70 teachers at PHS probably only 5 of them were really good. And those 5 were extraordinary but, come on, now, let's improve the caliber of education. read more

Looking back at my experiences of PSD through the eyes of a 20 something, I realized that the PSD wasn't only a bad memory regarding the academics, but also the social factor as well. As a minority student (black female) going to this district during the mid 90s to early 2000s, I realized that the PSD isn't great for everyone. I think I should have at least enrolled into one of the high schools of the Tacoma School District and taken the longer commute to school for a better education and more diverse social life. But I guess I know better now. Oh, and to respond to C P. who said the PSD was "Ghetto!" (I'm assuming in perfect knock off valley girl voice too, lol) is just laughable. The PSD is probably the whitest damn school district in the country! You honestly can't get any less diverse and white as that district, it's like a school district out of Leaver to Beaver or something like that. SMH It's so white that every time I heard a beat to a song I liked and stated to move with the rhythm, my "friends" looked at me like I was crazy and ask me what I was doing. The hell, It's called DANCING, people dance when they hear music. If I went to a school in the Tacoma School District they would have been bumping with the music along side me. read more

Not what you would consider the best in education, but certainly not the worst. I would raise my kids in the district. I was raised in the district. It's nothing I would brag or boast about, but nothing I would frown upon either. read more

My daughters transferred into PHS in 10th grade after homeschooling for 8 years and going to a private school for one. Peninsula High School is a very good school!! The principal and staff genuinely care about the students and strive to know each one that they come in contact with. My daughters transitioned well, excelled academically and upon graduation were very appreciative of the education and support that they received. The majority of the teachers are experienced professionals that work hard and are a blessing to our community. As a parent, I was well informed via email and phone messages. read more
