This was my first time having my 5-ft sliding screen door repaired. I requested an upgrade to a thicker, dog-rated screen material and also paid to have a doggy door installed. After waiting patiently for three weeks, I finally got a call the door was finished. I installed the door at home, but as soon as my dog used it, once, the screws from the doggy door fell out. It appears the nuts are too large for the bolts and don't fit properly. After waiting that long, I won't be calling them back to fix it--they had plenty of time to get it right the first time. After taking measurements for a bedroom window, I called Peninsula screen shop and ask them based on my measurements how much a screen would cost. The lady told me it would be $75. I said does that include him coming out to measure and she said yes. So I thought that was a reasonable price for one bedroom window screen. He came out and measured and Then he appeared back at my house with the screen. I could have easily installed it myself because you just pop it into the opening but he said he would install it so I allowed him into the bedroom. It was a 30 second job. Then he came out and presented me with the bill. Instead of $75 it was $157.31. I was flabbergasted. I said oh no, I was quoted $75 plus tax and he said that that's just for the materials and labor to create the screen but it's $75 to have it installed. I said I don't want to pay the $75 for the installation and then he started walking toward the bedroom and said I will take the screen back then. It was very intimidating for me. I said no no I already paid $75 for the screen but I do not want to pay another $75 for 30 seconds of installation. Then he said well, The $75 is my trip time to drive 10 minutes to your house and I brought my worker with me so that's two men. I said that doesn't make any sense. I could've come to the shop and take the screen myself. He then insisted he was going to take the screen away so I was extremely intimidated and upset but I ended up writing a check for the $157.31 Rather than deal with this man. I asked if he was the owner and he said yes we have been in business for 25 years. I don't understand this behavior. I felt very scammed. He never told me that it would be an additional $75 to come out and install my screen. When I told him that he said oh I'm very very sorry I should have mentioned it. Being in business 25 years you certainly should know but I think because of my address he thought he would get an easy "double the price" in my neighborhood. I gave him one star for this deception. I had 2 doggie doors made by Peninsula Screen and they are amazing! The summer door has a screen on top of the doggie door. The winter door has plexiglass and an opaque rubber doggie door that keeps the cold out. It is extremely well made and a clever design with magnets to hold the door closed but yet easy for my dog to push. It also has a sturdy removable cover to close the doggie door. I really love it because it keeps the house warm. I have used Peninsula Screen several times for screens and they are a great business. I highly recommend them. read more

So I have been trying to get a visit with Peninsula Screens for a few weeks now. My first call to them seemed friendly enough, the lady on the phone said she would get back to me later that day to confirm when they could come. I didn't hear back for several days which was definitely not a good sign but not something I wanted to get my knickers in a knot about. I spoke with somebody on the phone who told me they would be in the city the next week and would be able to visit, which was fine and I got a call from the guy who does the visits and he said he would come that afternoon. I waited around, called back and he told me he left the city and isn't coming. He didn't notify me he wasn't coming and just left. I decided I would give these guys another try, mainly because finding somebody to do a screen door is really hard in San Francisco. So the guy apologized and said he would come friday at 9am, "for sure" he said. I put this on my calendar with an ** which means high probability the meeting will not happen is high. Naturally 9am rolls around, no call, and at 930am I called and the guy says "Oh, I am doing other work, when do you want me to come?" he said "9am for sure" and now he is doing other work. So I asked if he can come soon, he says in half hour, an hour passes and no call back, and nothing. This shop may in fact do great work, but this is some of the worst customer service I can imagine. It's pretty basic, if you can't make an appointment, let the customer know, but the pattern is consistent. read more

Ugh. I really hate writing bad reviews. I orders close to $2k in window screens from these guys. You'd think they'd get it right. I have black window frames yet they built me white frame window screens. Many of the screens don't fit and fall out with the slightest touch. Some screen pegs (that you hold onto to install the screen) broke off within 2 months. They finished the screens 1 week later than promised. I have been looking to get window screens for a long time now. I checked Home Depot and Lowe's they only have the DYI ones. I called a few window companies they only did entire window replacements not just the screens. Finally I found 2 ACE Hardware stores that did them. I called them to ask if I could order custom screens they said only 1 guy could do it and they weren't taking orders due to COVID. It was so frustrating finally my dad told me about Peninsula screen shop where he had previously placed a screen door order. The screen door was high quality with very thick strong screen. I called them they quickly took my order of 6 different custom size screen windows. They offered to have someone come to my house to measure the windows but I already had the measurements. I called to ask how long it would take to custom make a wooden screen door I saw on Pinterest and Pedro said a week, which was exactly what I wanted to hear. Everywhere else told me 2 months. Pedro came by the next day and took measurements. It actually took a couple of days longer because of all the rain, and the custom paint I wanted, but so well worth it. I love my new screen door. It is exactly what I wanted. I also had them install another regular screen door on the side of my house that leads out of our laundry room. We had driven by PSP often, to and from our weekend Costco - Redwood City - runs. We have 2 original screen doors that came with our home (25+ years). We messaged with PSP over Yelp. We got an immediate response but, then the message went cold. Then, one day, I got a message back about arranging a visit for an estimate. That thread also stalled so finally, we just stopped by one Saturday and met with the owner. The inside of the Shop is a sight to see; it's a mini shrine to Bay Area sports. The shop had a real neighborhood feel - not a fly By night. Also, the shop gave us a real good feeling about attention to detail of the owner. And things moved really quickly after that. The owner dropped by, measured and took the old doors with him back to the shop. We dropped by and got an estimate and signed off on it. The work was done, the doors delivered and installed. The product was great. The installation was flawless. Oh, we also got pet proof screens installed and the material is perfect with letting sun light through. All and all; a great experience and we would highly recommend it. Our next project is to rescreen some window screens. Our kitty has had her way with a few of them. Owner came and measured for a security screen door (exterior) at the beginning of March. He quoted me a price and left. Didn't provide paper work or time frame or the type/style he was selecting. A few days later I called ( my smart phone number was displayed). I called to inquire about a photo of the style he was ordering for me. He said his wife could send me a photo the following day. STAY AWAY!!! This business is too expensive and is tricking its customers!!! It's insulting and very disappointing. I called for a quote and Julio, the owner, first told me he would do everything for $850. When I asked if he could do better (as he was the most expensive contractor we met with), he then offered to do the job for $800. The problem is, Bay Area Screens and Martin Screens want to do the job for $700. Julio said he'd check his prices and get back to me. The next day, Julio called me and said he'd give me the best price- $850. What???? He increased his price arbitrarily??? Now I know for certain he is trying to rip our family off. Then he said, "okay, okay. I'll give you the best price. $800." That was completely useless and he is trying to take advantage of our family. Also, Julio is not a nice person. He was unprofessional and rude on the phone. Very poor manners, and it's not because of his language barrier. Stay away from a business that overcharges and has poor business practices while also lying to its potential customers. There are much better options in the Bay Area for window screens. read more

I really wanted to like this shop (bc they're a local business) but they made it virtually impossible. We had 2 projects with them: 1) Replacing an old swinging screen door for our patio door 2) Two custom screens for our front windows. Overall: * Project speed: Custom screens = 1, Prefab door = 3 * Response time and customer service: Negative 1 star * Price: 4 stars (competitive and they price matched our prefab door cost + installation for us) Project #1: Screen door I was happy with the price (they price matched a lower quote I got from someone in San Mateo). They weren't super communicative about the delivery and installation (called the day it was ready and asked to come by same day or next day), but was generally happy with the turn-around and installation. Project #2: Front window screens (custom sized) I was happy with project #1 and asked them to quote us for some custom front screens. The quote was good so we went ahead and had them ordered. The end to end on this project should have been 2 weeks, but took over a month and a bazillion unanswered phone calls and voicemails trying to follow up on status. They came back to try and fit the screens in more than 4 times, continued to promise coming back at a certain day/time and never showed up, then showed up unannounced and put them in without a phone call or knock on the door. For the last 2 weeks of this project, they did not return a single 1 of my over 10 calls and 7 voicemails (I'm pretty certain they were screening my phone number). I got so fed up with this project and their lack of communication, I drove to their storefront and physically picked up the screens myself, then installed them on my own. My experience with this shop was horrible. Though they ended up discounting the final cost of the screens, they were not apologetic at the least about how things had fallen through at the end. My key takeaway: You get what you pay for. I would recommend them for a straight forward screen door replacement but not for custom sizing work - unless you have all year to wait for the project to be completed correctly. read more

I have needed to replace my sliding screen door's screen for a couple of years now... it was at least 15 years old, and had huge holes because of my dogs (scratching at it) and children (shoving their hands through where the door handle is). Imagine my surprise/pleasure when they came over 20 minutes later, and took the door with a promise to return with it Monday night. This screen shop worked out great for me. After first calling a handyman who visited and said he'd call with an estimate but never called again, and then calling Screen Mobile only to get a full cell phone voice mailbox, I was really happy to have someone who actually answered the phone and delivered as promised. When I called asking how much it would cost to screen 5 medium sized windows and 2 doors, the prices sounded reasonable. Then Julio came out to my house and did the measurements and gave an estimate, exactly what was quoted to me over the phone. When he came out to install, only 2 days later, he spent time adjusting and perfecting the fit. For a few that seemed to be tight, he took them back to his shop and brought them by promptly the next morning. Initially they said it would be an extra $75 to install the screens and I said, never mind, I'd do it myself so he waived the charge. It was a little concerning that the company would even conceive of charging an installation fee, but given how careful they are with the fit, I'd say it might be fair if they're installing a whole houseful of screens or something. We decided to give this newer business a try since it was closer to us, instead of using our regular screen repair shop which is a little farther away. We are so sorry we did. We hired them to put dog doors into two of our sliding patio door screens. A pricey job. We were so disappointed in the quality of the work they did and the unprofessionalism in the way they removed and installed the screens. One would not roll correctly and had to be taken back to the shop 2 times as it had been bent when it was removed for the job. I would not refer this company to anyone. read more
