I just had the best drivers license renewal experience of my life. I dread going to the DMV. Everyone there is always miserable and it takes forever. I understand this is probably a thankless job full of just directing irritating people to sign on guidelines and then having them sign in the wrong place anyway. This is my first time going to this one and everyone was helpful nice, we were laughing and joking. I seriously think that's the only time I've ever laughed inside of a DMV. The lady took my picture and asked me if I liked it. I said it's fine but I look like a criminal. so she goes it looks better than last time. Then she brings the two side-by-side and says that it looks like I cut my own hair last time. she goes "oh honey you gotta spring for the barbershop next time!" Walked in on a Saturday morning shortly before 11 am with my camera card and expired license plus a thousand other "just in case" documents. Walked out FIFTEEN MINUTES LATER with my updated license. DO THE CAMERA CARD PEOPLE!!! You basically do all the work and pay up front so all they have to do is take your pic and print your license. This is the way!!! read more

I have been to this Penn Dot location many times in my life. These things I know for sure, pack your lunch, have your cell phone fully charged and a bag full of patience. Everytime I've been here it's long sweaty lines of inpatient people :( I can understand both sides of this from working customers service of some sort for many years. It's a difficult task to be pleasant all the time. Especially when dealing with inpatient people. I always try to be pleasant with them because I do know what they're going through. It doesn't seem to matter though, they just seem to be going though the motions to get through the day. One of the last times I came, I needed to bring my elderly aunt (92 yrs old) here to renew her expired non-drivers license. They never took into account her age or that she couldn't move as fast when her number was called or that she had a struggle trying to hear them talking to her. I literally was her eyes and ears :( These people could use a few classes on customer service and empathy for the elderly. We were there for almost 3 hours. My best advice is to go when they first open (8 or 8:30am), make sure you have all the documents you need (check their website), they don't take cash, just checks, money orders, debit and credit. My final thoughts.....I only come here or any DMV because I have to. Would avoid it like Covid19 if I could. Oh! Speaking of covid, not one restriction for Covid except a sign on the door that you must wear a mask upon entering. But have people packed in there like sardines. SMH! Hopefully, I won't be back till I have to take my picture in a couple of years! read more

This place is the place to go if you need drivers license renewed. I also needed Real ID. Polite and efficient staff. No line at all, helped immediately, in and out in 10 minutes! This was in a Thursday morning. Incredible especially when compared to Media branch which has the rudest staff ever and long line, having to stand outside in freezing weather. read more

Timing: I came in on Tuesday, 7:45 am (it opens at 8:30 am) and it took about 2 hours. It's everything you'd expect from a DMV - long lines, people trying to cut or find ways to skip, and employees who are tired of dealing with all of that. People: The thing is - people tend to get more irritated the longer they wait. The employees have to deal with irritable people all day, so I got the sense that the employees were more tired than rude. I was courteous to them and they lightened up, making the overall experience good. Nuts and Bolts: I had to transfer my out-of-state license to a PA license. I made sure to bring everything necessary (Birth certificate, Passport, Current out-of-state license, and x2 verifications for current address, such as bills, certificates, checks - there are more options for ID and verification so check the website). It took the longest to get to actually filling out my Real ID information, after that, I had the option to get my picture taken at this location and get it mailed to me (2 - 3 weeks) or go to another location that could print it and give it to me immediately (though I'd restart in line at a new location). I chose the former. Overall: Took 2 hours to get in and out. Be kind to them and they'll be kind to you. Bring everything you need or you'll get sent home. If you need to get your license Immediately, you'll have to go to another picture taking location to get it printed; otherwise, it takes around 2-3 weeks to get it mailed. read more

When you arrive be sure to have any and all documentation you have ever possessed in your entire life, to include your first born as a sacrifice, a semen sample so they can clone you and create a emotionless staff member who gives you incorrect information just to be told by some other clone that it was not incorrect. Your eye ball for molding and retinal scan. As well as the holy grail. You will need all of this just to get a ticket to get to the next gate of hell where you will be told you can't get an ID because some other DMV in a different state did something wrong. Then when you come back for the 9th time in one day you will ceremoniously be executed for thinking you even had constitutional rights in the DMV. I'll be going back tomorrow to be promptly told that I don't have the right color shoes on to be helped on a Thursday. Good luck. read more

I was in and out of this PennDOT in under 40 minutes, new license in hand. If you have your documentation ready and get there when they open, things move quickly. Bring a check or money order, and double check the website for required support (e.g. I needed the original copy of my social security card). Not much to say. Had to go on a Saturday to get my license. Took about two hours. Arrived at 9 and left at 11. Being from NJ, this blew my mind. On top of that, they don't take credit cards, debit cards, or cash... but will take a personal check. I'm not sure what to expect from this state, but seems a little backwards to accept personal checks but not chase, credit or debit. Whoever conducts the drivers license exams (FEMALE) automatically will fail you right on the spot just because. I believe it's because she's miserable, incompetent, or hates her job. People will go there to take a drivers exam and fail but will do exactly what the driver SAYS. The miserable lady should be FIRED and a complaint will be sent up to higher source and contacting the BBB. Multiple complaints from many people with this woman and it's not because the person doesn't know how to drive she will literally fail you before you even get in the car! You will do everything that's told and she will fail you. Trust me your time will be coming for wasting peoples time get a new job if you don't like it as many people would love to take your place !!!! It's pretty sad that people in this world lack EMPATHY AND HUMANITY ANYMORE and to have somebody like this incompetent woman working for you not doing her job just because she hates herself or people isn't right. This place has gotten complaints about her before but continues to have her working there. PITIFUL! I would suggest ANYBODY GETTING in the car with this woman to maybe latch a video cam to your body or microphone for evidence because soon enough her time will be coming! The woman working at counter 6 on Aug. 13th was so rude and seemed to enjoy demeaning and embarrassing me. Dealing with her was the worst experience I've ever had at a DMV. Woefully inefficient with significant need of considerable oversight, proper managerial commitment, and capable, competent personnel. It is the stereotypical example of how an office can only survive with govt. backing as to exist in the private sector like this would mean bankruptcy at the very least. Between DMVs/BMVs in Ohio, Kentucky, NJ from '12 to now, and transitioning to PA most recently, this was the worst of the lot. It is a miracle they have not been shut down, audited, or worse. Straight away, the check in was a slow, laborious process complete with dismissive personnel that could not answer the most basic of questions or perform their job description with even a baseline level of professionalism or competency. Those being, "Are these the correct documents I need?", "What does a new registration and title transfer cost?", other apparently timeless mysteries as "Why did you get my name and address wrong twice? (despite 3 forms of mail, old ID, and a verbal telling illustrating otherwise...followed by photoing and printing new ID regardless)" If God and Philly PD would give me a pass, I'd vaporize this place. read more

The one star is for the staff that sits on the back wall as soon as you enter. The staff that sits on the far wall to the left are excellent as always. (4 stars) I visited here on a Saturday. This place was unusually PACKED! To the max! I'm not sure what exactly was going on, but the staff on the far left wall by the testing tables worked diligently to get people through the crowds and out. The staff that man's the cameras by the ticket machine need supervision. Their section was packed until there was only standing room available. And the three of them, sat up there at their desks having a fake argument and playing around. One would think if you had a room full of customers which some were sitting there for an hour, you would get to it. But the smoking and joking continued. They were taking breaks like every 5 mins. And not taking any customers for at least a good 30-45 mins while playing around. It wasn't until a woman stood up for all of us and asked what they were doing that they started to put some effort into getting us serviced. The woman who stood up and asked question also received some nasty feedback from one of the employees. Very sarcastic and not so helpful. Those three could really use some supervision, I'm not sure if they knew what they were doing at all. Also, instead of the security guard occupying an entire front area to himself, maybe put some more desks for cameras in there. Create more jobs. read more

I was given the runaround at this PennDOT location so many times that I thought I was at the circus. I was given the wrong information by the receptionist, who told me I had to go to the auto tag place for my driver's license name change (what!). Between the kind auto tag place and the horrible PennDOT phone system, I finally figured out what I needed and went back (simply because I couldn't handle driving across town to Arch St or Columbus Blvd). After I got past the receptionist, it was mostly a breeze and a decent wait in a room that smelled like dirty bathrooms and pot. The guys that helped me with my forms and camera card were super nice and friendly, so I guess the receptionist is a one-off. I'll unfortunately have to go elsewhere for my title and registration needs, which they DON'T do here. Does that make sense? Hell no. read more

Who hired half these people? Penndot just doesn't care, whatever hood rat that can pass a test has a job. The most ghettooooo hood rats taking the pictures. And old hood rats at that. Eating and talking on their cells phones and yawning and having convos with people who walk in that they personally know, all while they supposed to be helping you. I arrived at 9:37 and didnt get my picture taken for my license until 10:43am while I was watching people that came in after me go to other counters and get waited on and then come over to my area and get waited on again before I was even called period. A young guy that didn't speak English was called up to the counter and the lady treated him so bad cause he he didn't understand her. How rude, obviously you hoodrat he needs a translator, he was Hispanic dummy. How do you work with the public and not know that. She was ignorant. It's time to fire and rehire but Penndot is so stupid they won't. The persons working the photo section need to retire to a stay at home stuffing envelopes job. Somewhere contact with people is completely unnecessary. Loud, rude, just obnoxious. No wonder everyone's waiting for the picture section after the doors close. Its because theses guys are chit chatting away like two young school kids. Its a photo every 8-10 minutes. Wait. For the past three months, I've been dealing with the process of getting my Pennsylvania driver's license. I'd had a license in NJ for years, but like a dummy let it expire and was required to go through the whole process of the written test and driving test again. I took my written test (er... twice) at the DMV on Race Street in Chinatown, and both times I waited hours for my number to be called to take the test. And the people (with exception of one employee) were miserable. I also took the driving test (er... twice), the first time at the Columbus Ave. DMV, which was miserable. I waited in the queue (in my car) for an hour and a half. The inside of the DMV was also mobbed. Yesterday, I took my driving test again at the Ogontz location, and they were awesome. The instructor was great, the woman handing out numbers was great too (she even gave me a fist-bump when she noticed I passed my test), and the wait was minimal -- maybe 10 minutes total. If you need to go to the DMV, which is never a truly pleasant experience, skip the Center City locations and go here instead. read more

I had a horrible experience at this DMV. My instructor was very unsettling. I parked perfectly, used my turn signals and did everything I was supposed to. He mumbled to turn and I had missed the turn because I was unable to hear him speak. I finished off the test and did not make a signal driving mistake but he failed me anyway just because I was unable to hear him. This was a very terrible experience because I felt like it was very unfair and there was no mistake on my part. I don't suggest going to this DMV. read more

I went to go take my drivers test. I was already nervous because of simply taking my test, but the instructor Tim made me feel so relaxed.
