Here for another stay and I just re-read my original review. All comments still stand and are just as accurate now as they were then. It is about a year later and really nothing has changed. The independent coffeehouse workers at the front and parking attendants across the street are as inconsistently aloof and grumpy as they ever were. But it all seems to work if you manage your expectations. I still like the minimalist concept and the rooms are clean and comfortable in an upgraded hostel sort of way. I actually like staying here for the rooms and the location. I did find that on this visit, the housekeeping services were pretty mediocre. On the first morning, I left my housekeeper a tip and when I came back, my bed looked like someone had slept in it other than me (see photo attached) and a load of clean towels had been deposited on my bathroom sink area instead of being put away on the shelves where they belong. I am not sure if they got interrupted midway in their room cleaning and then forgot to finish the job or perhaps my housekeeper was a child with a 6 year old attention span. Either way, it was so ridiculous that the next morning, I just decided to keep my "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door so that they would not try to come in and embarrass themselves again and leave me disappointed. I will continue to stay here when traveling solo and needing to be in the area but I do think it is fair to warn anyone that is looking for a full service hotel experience with good attention to detail to book elsewhere. read more

I stayed at Motto by Hilton Philadelphia Rittenhouse Square hotel, for three days a few weeks ago. I selected it primarily because of its great location, since it is so close to where my work office is, and it made it very simple to get back and forth to work. I was able to walk to work every day, and was able to go back to the hotel after a late evening which was great! I had an excellent overall experience at this hotel. The hotel is a fun place to be and there are many restaurant options within the hotel that makes it easy to get something to eat or drink as you need it. Additionally, they have a small café within the hotel where I would stop each morning for a hot chocolate prior to leaving for work. It was a good way to begin the day without having to leave the hotel! The overall size of the room was smaller than what I am used to with other Hilton hotels, however, it was very well designed and met all of my needs during my stay. There was adequate space to walk between the bed, the bathroom and the spaces that were along the walls. It had a very modern feel and the efficiency of the room was perfect for a short term business trip. An added plus was that each day housekeeping would visit, keeping everything clean and stocked, like towels, during my business trip. I found that it was a very pleasant experience to be able to have an easy commute to where I needed to go, thanks to the hotel's great downtown location, and able to take advantage of the multiple meal options available within the hotel itself and enjoy a clean and comfortable room, all of which made this a great choice! I checked into Motto by Hilton expecting to experience something like a hotel room, and instead found myself inside a rather elegant storage solution. It was all there, just rearranged like a clever child's puzzle. You don't enter so much as tuck yourself in. The deluxe queen room, a term which in this case means you get a small padded bench by the window, was just about the size of a generous walk-in closet. No chair. No desk. Nothing you could rightfully call a workspace unless you have a very good lap and a high tolerance for back pain. But the bed was clean and firm and marvelously practical. You could slide a suitcase under it and it would vanish like a magician's dove. The bathroom, such as it is, contains everything you need, with the possible exception of mystery. The sliding door is translucent. You see shadows. You see outlines. If your travel companion harbored any secrets, you will leave knowing them all. It's a design choice best described as bold and least charitably described in polite company. Noise wandered in freely from the fifth floor windows, which either says a lot about the city or not quite enough about the windows. The walls seemed to share gossip between rooms. Not enough to be scandalous, but enough to remind you that privacy is a concept best left to the countryside. Down in the basement, you'll find society's great modern equalizer: vending machines. One full of snacks, some of which can be resurrected with the nearby microwave. The drinks machine offered cold comfort. The ice machine and accompanying buckets stood nearby, like a little encampment of mid-century conveniences huddled together in the subterranean gloom. What the hotel lacks in square footage, it makes up for in location. PATCO and SEPTA are nearby, which means you can flee the city or plunge further in with equal ease. Rittenhouse Square is a few blocks away, along with an incredible number of places to eat, drink and overhear things. There's a coffee shop attached and a Mexican restaurant on the ground floor that smelled like an honest attempt at joy. And should you need a view of the city with your cocktail, there's a rooftop bar eleven stories up. You just need to ask the restaurant host to unlock the elevator button, which feels vaguely like getting security clearance for a slightly below average over-priced margarita. The staff were lovely. Kind faces at reception, quick with a smile and directions. If humanity is still worthwhile, it is in part because of people like them. In sum, Motto is a fine place for a weekend escape, provided you do not intend to write a novel or hold a conference call from your bedside. Just be prepared to get more familiar with your roommate than either of you planned. Four stars. Because cleverness counts. read more

We had a pleasant one night stay at this location. The room was small but comfortable and clean. This is a place for sleeping and not for working. It was small with jsut a tiny movable bedside table - not great work working. But we were there only to sleep so it didn't bother us. The bathroom was comfortable but could have used a longer shower curtain - during the shower water splashed all over through the gap. There was also some dust on the shelves/bathroom spots. Location was close to everything. The cafe in the lobby was very good for breakfast treats and coffee. Staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming and made the stay even better. read more

I stayed here from 9/20-9/22 while I was in town for the Eagles game, and the hotel ended up being a great home base for the weekend. The location in Rittenhouse is hard to beat tons of restaurants, coffee spots, and everything you need within walking distance. It's a lively area but the hotel itself stays quiet once you're inside. The room was compact, but that's the style of the Motto brand. Everything was modern, clean, and laid out efficiently. The bed was comfortable after a long day out, and the shower had good water pressure, which is always a plus. Staff was friendly, check-in was easy, and they didn't give me any hassle about coming back late after the game. Common areas were stylish and well kept. The elevators move fast, and it felt secure you need your key to access the floors, which I appreciated since the area gets busy at night. Only thing to note is that the rooms are minimal by design, so if you're expecting a traditional full-service hotel setup with lots of space, this isn't that. But for a weekend in the city, especially when you're mostly out and about, it works perfectly. Not high on my list of Hotels to recommend. Have stayed several times when in Philly as it is close to my son. Rooms are minimal and most are smaller than an NYC hotel. Not a lot of room for more than a single person. You literally roll out of bed into bathroom. Little storage areas or even room for suitcases and clothing. This visit was disappointing as my room was not ready at check-in time, room was not clean, as a Diamond member did not initially receive my food and beverage credits, and no one did what they committed to do. As a Diamond member was surprised I ended up with a room on a lower floor with a lovely view of the roof of another building. For me the lack of follow through was disappointing. read more

Came and stayed Thursday to Saturday. There was a lot happening in the city when I was here which made this location that much better. It's walking distance from a good amount of touristy things so you'll never have to go far or spend too much on a taxi ride. Amtrak isn't too far and the greyhound depending on which location you select is no more than a 10 min drive. The hotel itself is the definition of fine. You're not getting anything too special with the rooms. I got one on the fourth floor and there are three elevators so it wasn't a long wait. The elevators are quiet so you have to look up from your phone to see when they arrive. The rooms are small. So if you like space, this probably isn't the hotel for you. My room didn't come with an iron or steamer. Not sure if that's something you have to ask for. Lotion, shampoo, and body wash comes with the room. The front desk staff was excellent. They were my favorite part of my experience. Funny. Quick. And ready to serve. When you walk in there is a small coffee shop there with a few pastries, empanadas, and cookies for sale. Prices were shockingly cheap given the city and the area I was in. You'll pay about 5 dollars for most things on the menu. Theres a lounge / restaurant behind the check in desk and if you take the elevator to the top floor there is a rooftop bar which is open year round from typically 4pm to 11pm each night. There's a small gym on the bottom floor and vending machines. Your card is needed to access all floors minus the lobby. I'm torn between this being a 3 star or a 4 star place. But I'll go with a four because there's worsts Hiltons out there and the staff was super kind. The bed was pretty good for two nights. read more

Rooms were small and plain, but we had no issue with that because it was great enough to sleep. We were there visiting and it was just what we needed. The hotel had a coffee bar inside conveniently located by the entrance and elevators. Another plus was adjacent to the hotel were two bar/restaurants for you to enjoy! One located in the main floor and one on the rooftop. It was also centrally located with lots of parking garages nearby for you to use if you plan on staying a long time. It also felt safe staying there because you couldn't use the elevator at all without use of your key card or if visiting the rooftop restaurant (that needs use of the elevator) you were escorted to there. We were looking for a hotel close to the starting point of the Philadelphia marathon. This place is about a mile a way and it' was decently priced for that weekend. The staff were super nice. The hotel is very thoughtful. The day of the race they have water bottle, electrolyte packs, nutrition bar for us runners to take. It looks very modern and hip. The room is small but the space is used efficiently such as a bunk bed that sleeps 3 comfortably. There's a safe, some rooms have microwave. You also need a key to use the elevator to go upstairs. There are 2 parking garage around. The hotel parking is $50 per day with in and out privileges. If you don't need that, there's a garage right next to it for $15/day. It's a very good location. There's a Target very close by. Jenni's ice cream is one block away. If I were to run the marathon again would definitely stay there again. read more

Just left an amazing stay at this hotel. If you don't plan on being in the room all day with you and one other person traveling then this is the hotel for you. We were so busy that we missed out on the rooftop and restaurant experience which sucked for me. I really wish they had more options available for people staying on Sundays besides the breakfast bar. We had planned to stay at an Airbnb but it was terrible and we had to get a new place immediately and the Motto was so generous to us. There is not a thing to NOT like about this establishment. The staff is wonderful and very accommodating. The room is comfortable and well laid out. I would love for my home to be like this. I love the under bed space for luggage and such. And the farmhouse doors on the bathroom are aesthetically pleasing to the eyes. The rooftop restaurant/bar is great and nicely laid out.. We recently stayed here over the Valentine's Weekend and have stayed here once previously. The last visit was a last minute booking and we basically just slept and checked out in the morning with no issues. This visit was unfortunately not as pleasant as one would hope. Our first room had no hot water in the shower and maintenance said they really couldn't do anything cause it seems like many people are showering at the same time? Issue with that was my boyfriend and I tried to shower over 3 hours apart. We just dealt with it and had cold showers. I know people came in town for Eagles parade so outside noise doesn't bother us at all especially living in the city but, it seems like every person on our floor was obnoxiously loud from pounding on doors, yelling, slamming doors etc. it was annoying but didn't want to seem like we were being unreasonably complaining about everything. Next morning, still no hot water so we let front desk know again and they were very kind/understanding and said they would move us. We waited a bit and they let us know when our new room was available, we moved to a new room, had hot showers and were content! Fast forward to the next morning, we're woken up by our neighbour blasting their tv, yelling loudly on the phone, slamming things and It's not even 7 am at this point. We call downstairs and let them know, it quiets down for maybe another 30 minutes and then noise started back up again. We just had to lay there and wait for it to stop to get just a bit more sleep before checking out. I'm completely aware hotels aren't sound proof but you can literally hear the room next door pull their blinds up and down.... Overall, don't think we'd stay here again but the staff were very kind. read more

Jerry P. nailed it (recent review). Rooms have the same bed, sheets, tv, hangers, pillows as a real Hilton without all that unnecessary square footage. The point about the bathroom is valid. Question whether a sliding translucent barn door is what you want to first slide closed, then sit behind with ANYONE else within 8-10 feet (whole bed and room outside of bathroom is maybe 10' x 10') when you are having a natural human moment. Overall same sentiments: all staff were professional, hard working, perceptive and excellent in their communication skills and willingness to make the place seem way, way better than the facilities provide. I chatted first and then later called about the parking situation. hoever answered the phone explained the hotel is on a one-way street; hotel on the left and parking lot directly across on my right. $50. Can get in and out privales. Was pretty efficient although not cheap. When I checked in she said it was minimalist. She wasn't kidding! She also said I was upgraded from a standard room to a deluxe. I fear what the standard room was. Mine was basically a bed, TV, and two nightstands. It was handicap accessible. Shower very small but water pressure good and water hot. No closet just a few hooks in the walls. Nice TV. Comfy bed. The room was clean. When I got back in the evening there was a lot of commotion to my left with some woman demanded a refund and the Hilton desk woman patiently explaining since she booked through hotels dot com she had to get the refund there. Idk. To my right were two police officers interviewing someone. I just went up to my room. There were no bottles of water in the room. When I called down she said it was at the front desk and I should have been given it upon checkin. I usually get it as a diamond when I check on. Ugh...I got dressed again and went back down for the water. It was quiet. Location was amazing. But I prefer more frills. Didn't get to the gym since it was a quick trip. read more

We stayed one night. They advertise valet parking. No. It's a regular parking lot and they charge $50 for one night. Front desk never answers. Never: we let it ring 20 minutes both days. Called Housekeeping for blankets; we were given wet sheets! Called again; Security guy came with blankets. I gave him the sheets. Hey, he said, these are wet. Went to the bathroom: 1/3 of a roll of toilet paper. No backups. Used up tissues. No backups. Awful. Short-staffed is an understatement. read more

I stayed there for 3 nights. Had both awesome and disappointing experience in this newly opened hotel. Good things: The hotel is very new. My room, as well as the lobby were modern and clean. The lobby had a design featuring Mexica, which I enjoyed a lot. The room was not as big as the usual Hilton rooms, but it had lots of space-saving designs so it was absolutely enough for 1-2 ppl. There is digital check-in and digital room key (you can get it with your phone). Plus, the onsite restaurant Condesa was extremely good!! Try it if you stay there! Bad things: The fitness room was not clean at all. There were dead insects on the floor. I reported this to the front desk on the first day of my stay but unfortunately this problem was not solved even when I left the hotel. read more

This boutique hotel is easy to miss with its small nondescript sign on a busy street in downtown Philadelphia. I actually had a great stay there. The staff were some of the friendliest that I have encountered at a hotel stay in recent years. I took a star away because of the parking situation. It is convenient that there is a parking garage right across the street. It is a valet parking garage. It is privately owned, and the Hilton has a contract with it. Their website states that it is $50 a night to park there. I called the hotel for further information on parking and was told that if I did not need the In-N-Out privileges that I could park there for $84 for two nights instead of $100. When I checked out & got my car there was a machine to put the the ticket into and it charged me $119 to park and it charged my friend $108 to park. I was livid. The woman at the window in the garage was a complete B. She told me to take it up with the hotel. The hotel told me to take it up with the garage. So be very wary of your parking. The rooms are small, but everything was functional, the bed was comfortable and we had no issues with the room. The weird thing is is that the ice is in the basement. There are refrigerators in the rooms now, so that was a definite plus. We had a large window with a nice view. There is a great rooftop bar and there's also a nice Mexican restaurant downstairs. There is also a very nice coffee shop downstairs. So we had no issues at all with the room and amenities. Just parking. I spent an hour and a half trying to resolve the parking issue via Hilton Honors of which I am a member and I was told I would not be refunded. However, after filling out a Hilton survey and mentioning the parking situation and that my issue was not resolved, I miraculously did receive a refund a few weeks later, so in the end I was happy about that. Now I've stayed here several more times for longer stretches of time. Most of what I said earlier holds true, but I will say I've changed my mind about how thin the walls are. Maybe I'm biased by my current neighbors that play music loudly and get into screaming matches; but I do feel like those noises are a bit louder due to the rooms being smaller. It's also difficult to change rooms because of how this place is often sold-out (despite some of these-less-than favorable reviews. Thus I will repeat: if you can afford a bigger room (those have historically been in the corners of this hotel for me so one less neighbor), that's best. Otherwise, only other major complaint is the slow Wi-Fi. But this is still 4 stars for me because of room cleanliness, how much natural light gets in the room, fairly helpful staff, and location. read more

The front desk staff were incredibly nice! The vibes of this place is very cool and modern. Everything was clean. The hotel room itself is very small - no extras like a fridge, microwave, etc. There was a large TV though. There is only a little bit of walking space around the bed. The walls are also very thin - I could hear everything in the hallway, and even the blinds being drawn in the room next door. There's a restaurant called El Techo at the top which is popular with guests. It's a separate establishment so you have to check in with the restaurant staff on the 1st floor right by the hotel lobby check-in, and then they will scan a pass on the elevator to get you to the top. Just enough of what you need. One very comfortable queen bed w white sheets and a duvet, a big flatscreen tv, a bathroom with a large shower, a toilet. No chairs, a bench seat for one next to the bed and window, a bedside tray. It is all you need- cozy and comfortable. The toiletries smelled awesome , the towels soft, the bed comfortable. The downstairs sported a fantastic coffee bar, a modern Mexican restaurant and the roof sported a 21 and older rooftop bar. There was a definite party place vibe and guest services was on point. Great little spot in Rittenhouse if you want nice and clean room for an overnight stay or you're a compact traveler. Only issues that came up in our visit was our room was originally by the staff elevator and when people gathered there to talk you could hear every word. Also, we could great the people down the hall pregaming their night. So if you're sensitive to other peoples noise, this may bother you. But I got to hear juicy details about Richard so I'm not bothered. There was an issue of a busted water pipe affecting our floor. This causes no water for the sink, shower, and toilet. However, after I told the front desk they added me to a list of people and by the time we came back from our night out they gave us the option to move rooms. They even upgraded us to a larger corner room which was much quieter, and they gave us 1000 points (essentially $5). Staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. Beware. Booked this hotel for my partner and I. We were going to be in Philadelphia over the weekend for a concert. I was nervous as the reviews seemed to be 50-50. I felt much relief after actually getting to the hotel and into my room. Here are some of my thoughts. I loved the centralized location. The hotel is close to Target and CVS if you need anything or forgot to bring essentials with you. There are fantastic restaurants located nearby. It was within walking distance of the Mütter Museum which we were visiting. The room is on the small side but perfect if you are traveling alone or if you are with one person for a weekend visit. I loved how there were big bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in the shower. The bathroom was fantastic. The bed was comfy and in general, I have no complaints about the room. The only thing that I didn't like was that there was no mini fridge in the room. That is my only complaint. If I return to Philadelphia, I will stay at this hotel again. read more

At this hotel, the CONS vastly outweigh the pros: Pros - - modern rooms; decent Center City location Cons - - Very loud and noisy most nights, especially on the weekends, due to the rooftop bar (I've seen Philly police officers on multiple occasions dealing with drunken, aggressive bar patrons who you will be trapped with for a few moments in the elevators when they come down) - Very loud scene in the lobby due to the Mexican restaurant there (the Front Desk is a little thing in the restaurant entry) - NO BREAKFAST beyond the small cafe in front that does not belong to the hotel (good luck if you're not into empañadas or deep-fried ham&cheese things for breakfast) - NO PARKING except for the expensive place across the street and you WILL get a Philly parking ticket even if you leave your car for a moment in front to drop off your luggage - Inconsistent housekeeping in the hotel - The usual Philly homeless dude in the neighborhood, i.e., right in front of the CVS on the nearby corner Philly has a lot of problems with public safety, crime, dirt, and general lawlessness, which the Motto isn't responsible for, but there are a LOT of downsides at this hotel. I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. For one, I love that they don't have carpet in the rooms. The room was very clean. The staff here were very helpful and pleasant during our interactions. I like how the hotel is in walking distance to a lot of attractions and restaurants. It is a micro hotel, so keep that in mind. It's okay.... Nothing to write home about, but I'd stay again. The place is fairly new and is in a docent location, but the rooms are small and they cater to a younger minimalist mentality. No closet, no place to store a bag, and the bathroom is basically right next to the bed. I'd stay again in the future, but only for a night or two as I passed through the city. Staff was friendly, the cleaning crew did a good job, but they need to look a little closer. My room (920) had candle wax spotted across the floor and it looked like it had been there for a while. Don't just surface clean, make sure it's completely cleaned. The bed was comfortable and overall, I liked it. But I like more space and more of a traditional hotel. read more

Booked this place for a Saturday-Tuesday, 4 day 3 night stay in April for our spring break trip (we finished out the week at a friend's house to save money). We booked through Chase Travel portal with points (~44,815 points, or $560). I think we were in room 221 (which was weird because the room and another room were behind another door, like it used to be a closet or something). Pros: - THE LOCATION. The location of the hotel is so central to downtown Philly, super close to a bunch of restaurants, bars, train, etc. Literally so walkable to great places if you're looking to not drive too much. - Really modern, very millennial young adult vibes - it's super minimalist and a really good use of space which impressed me (it's also super necessary and you do actually get what you pay for even though the room seems small). - They do a really good job using the space - there's drawers under the window seated space, it's very clean, there's a water refill on every floor for convenience. Unique sliding door bathroom space with all the necessary bathroom amenities. - Convenience - very easy check-in process that only took a few minutes, there's a restaurant downstairs in the lobby and a bar upstairs. - Very effective window blackout shades to block the sun if you like sleeping in - I would say it was worth the price due to the prime location. - Very comfortable bed, with outlets for phone Cons: - Only one small trash can in the room, not really convenient if you'll make a lot of trash or have takeout boxes to throw out - NO FAN in the bathroom - so it's very unfortunate if your husband takes a huge dump - given that the room is small and air circulates very quickly....keep the window open to combat this lol - streaming services area available but you have to log into your own account The check in area is kind of easy to miss, it's a very small Hilton honors sign. - No fridge, so kind of inconvenient if you're trying to save takeout leftovers - Very poor water pressure in the shower head, and it's not a removal showerhead to at least give you another option to get clean given the poor water pressure. Literally felt like a gentle rain shower drip - No free coffee or breakfast options - I really wish that the bathroom sliding door was black instead of frosted glass. Overall, I would've given this place a 3 out of 5 stars, but the extremely good location and high walkability bumped it up to a 4. Motto By Hilton Philadelphia Rittenhouse Square - Hotels Near Me - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Not sure what there Motto is... or why it's named Motto... but I had a pretty enjoyable stay at this hotel in Philly. A few things: *The room is tight, but the space is used well. They have plenty of space saving things that allow you to get comfortable in such a cozy room (plenty of hooks on the walls, corner shelving, stuff that's hanging instead of placed on a table). FYI there is no desk in the room. So if you need to work... plan on doing it in bed... or somewhere else. *I think the most important thing to know about Motto is... when you're trying to find it... don't look for a large hotel lol. I drove around the block two or three times looking for this place. The signage is that almost of a store front. When I think of hotel, I think of a large entrance with a car pull around, and a giant lit up emblazoned sign on the top of the building with the hotel's name. Motto totally blends into the street as if it were a restaurant or something. *When you enter, it feels like you're entering into a cafe lol. And then you kinda go towards a bustling bar area and see the small front desk. That's where you check in. *There's not a ton of amenities and it feels like it has a younger vibe. Ice buckets in the rooms are little white plastic buckets that you might get caramel popcorn in. There is no robe (which my old boss feels is a sort of standard bearer for how nice a hotel is). And trust me... she's stayed in A LOT of hotels. But honestly, for a last minute booking, it was affordable, is in a really nice area and definitely suits the needs of 1 or 2 people. The rooms definitely feels newer too. Nothing feels outdated at all. The shower ( no tub) is really nice and had great water pressure. There were really two big annoyances for me. 1) How difficult it was too find. I feel like the hotel should really give instructions when booking. 2) The parking garage across the street that I parked in was a big pain. When I went to leave the next morning- they were totally weeded. It took about 25 or so minutes to get my car out with a long line of people waiting... and for about 10-15 of those minutes I was simply waiting for someone to pay for my ticket. I would strongly suggest that the hotel works with the parking garage across the street so I could pay for my parking at the front desk like a bunch of other hotels I've been too. That would have saved some time. Also, it was not cheap. But, as I found, parking in Philly is generally out-of-control expensive. read more

We haven't stayed at this hotel, but since I'd heard about a new year round Rooftop open up in center city, we had to check it out. Turns out we went on the first Friday and we went around 4:30, we were asked to wait since the place wasn't even open. But Lucky for us we got a chance to hang out in the lobby and look over their other restaurant Condesca which is a Mexican restaurant owned by the same people who have Suraya in fishtown. The lounge el azteca is Mexico inspired with cocktails and few apps. I loved the atmosphere and the fact that it is a year round roof top is a major plus. Definitely a great addition to the Philadelphia food and beverage seen. read more

Great hotel - awesome amenities (including a cafe and a restaurant in the hotel, and a rooftop restaurant/bar too). Amazing location too! About a 20 min walk to Reading Terminal, a less than 10 minute walk from City Hall and Mutter Museum and other sites! And as indicated by the name, it's a step away from Rittenhouse Square. It was super convenient to stay at this hotel and access all the touristy things. The staff was great and friendly as well. A few notes: the tv is an awesome big screen, you're able to sign in to your Netflix and other Smart apps! There is also a locker in the room. There is no fridge - it was fine for us, because we didn't stay more than one night, but fyi. read more
