I called Penny Electric after being referred by Echo Electric (they couldn't send anybody out until the next day). I called because after trying to replace a breaker myself I managed to knock out all the power in our home and even shut down our Solar. Wife was NOT happy haha! Thomas the electrician arrived within 30 minutes and replaced the breaker that I had tried to replace myself and got the solar up and running as well in addition to explaining why it had gone down (the solar breaker was loose in the box). I feel I need to update this review. When I originally did the work everything was great. I was able to get on the schedule and get everything taken care. While at my home I requested an estimate for work that I wanted after the new year. I called Penny Electric when I was ready and got on the schedule but shortly after I got a call and was told that I needed to give a 50% deposit just to get on the schedule and that they would only do everything on the original estimate without changes. I called and let them know the changes I needed to the quote and I never got a response back. I waited a week and called again and sent an email with details of what I needed to change on the quote. That was March 4th and I have yet to receive any response from the company. Since I was left with no response I went on to another company, LV Indoor Science, and was very pleased with his work and responsiveness. read more

First let me start off by saying that I've used Penny Electric in the past, so it was a no-brainer to call them when we had an emergency at our house on a Sunday night. Long story short, we were installing a NEST thermostat and my husband thought he had blown a fuse at the panel box. I called the emergency line, told the individual what was going on and she said she would contact the electrician on duty. He called me, went through the questions with him, and he said he would be over. Now the electrician that showed up was not the same one I spoke to on the phone. They and I mean they showed up. The one person stayed in the truck didn't say a word with the door open while the other came inside. He came on did a few things and said yup this isn't me. A fuse had blown in the attic for power the furnace. He said go buy one at AutoZone or call an AC company. I found it hard to believe that he did not have the fuse to assist us at 830 pm on a Sunday night when it was still 108 outside and no A/C. He still charged us a $150 fee for coming out and thought it was a little fishy/sketchy that they way they do business is to have this tech take my credit card information and turn it into the office the next day or a check. Something didn't feel right with this whole transaction, so I called the office and the girl said she would forward my information on to the Manager and have him look into it and give me a call back.......been about 10 days now and......I'm still waiting for a call. They didn't hesitate to cash my check though!!!! This is not the same Company I know and have used on past jobs. A hard lesson learned in these hard times, but I will never use them again and will never recommend their services to any of my co-workers or friends. read more

I wasn't able to use the plugs in my kitchen (couldn't charge my iPhone or use my toaster) as I had in the past. Needed to have the GFI plug replaced in my kitchen. Don, the electrician, called 20 minutes before arriving at my house. He was wearing a mask, and so was I. Within 15 minutes, he had solved the issue. He was very knowledgeable and professional. Jason Hardy was our electrician . He installed my outdoor ceiling fans and Bluetooth and put in three new outlets which he ran through the attic so you couldn't see any Exposed pipe or wire . This company was ridiculously unprofessional. I had an issue that needed attention right away and they said they would be to my house in one hour, it took five hours. When I called to ask what was taking so long at hour two, three and four I was told the electrician was on his way several times. When the supervisor showed up he didn't do much and said they had to return in the morning at 9am. At 915 am I received a phone call from them stating they couldn't make it and would have to reschedule for noon to four. I called anytime electric instead and received quality on time work. I just had Pennyelectric install a smart light switch for me and Jeremy did a good job but the company itself is way overpriced and the price quoted for a service call was not explained until after which apparently included their drive time so basically the service fee covers nothing of the work. Kicking myself that I didn't call Penny Electric in the first place. I went for a slightly cheaper option and paid the price. Roger was able to fix my address lights that several others had worked on prior to him. He was extremely knowledgeable and was so patient. The price was only slightly higher than other electricians that I had used and it was well worth it as he actually fixed the issue, and he was not in the interest of gouging me for extra costs (which he certainly could have). *UPDATE AT BOTTOM OF REVIEW* We just had a spa installed by Creative Spa Designs and were referred by them to Penny Electric for the wiring of the spa. Wiring Installation: The install went without a hitch and the hot tub turned on as expected. With regard to the wiring itself, Penny Electric did a fine job. The cost of the job was pricey, but I imagine it was in line with whatever other local electricians would charge, despite the high price tag. Communication: This is the category within which Penny Electric still has a lot of room for improvement and growth. The first sign of this is when we scheduled Penny Electric to visit our house on a Tuesday but, after coordinating with Creative Spa Designs themselves, they moved the appointment to the Wednesday when the hot tub was being installed. While this made much more sense than the original date, Penny Electric did not tell me of this change and I did not find out about it until the original appointment day came and they did not show up. This created a logistical burden on my end as taking time off work is not an easy task. Penny should have called me in the first place to let me know of the change. This happened again when, after the wiring installation, we were told by the on-site electrician that the city would come the following day to inspect the wiring. Once again, I called the next day when the city hadn't shown up yet and they informed me that the city inspection was pushed back yet another day. These are things that I should be called about when they make/find out about the changes, not that I should have to find out after I proactively make the phone call. Secondly, I paid for their services in full a week before the job was actually carried out. Despite this fact, after the job was completed, the on-site electrician asked me for payment. I had to show him my credit card statement on my phone to clarify that I had already paid. A day later, Penny sends me an email with my invoice attached (with a "PAID" stamp on it) but in the body of the email, they asked me to "remit payment at [my] earliest convenience." By using a cookie cutter email that should've only been used with an unpaid invoice, they created additional confusion that had to be clarified with additional emails. Finally, the most frustrating part of the experience came after the wiring was completed. To install the spa wiring, they had to dig an 18 inch-deep trench across my backyard from the house to the spa itself (this was where the wire was laid). Understandably, they left this trench exposed so that the city could come by later to inspect it. However, when I called Penny Electric to arrange for the trench to be buried and the surrounding red rock to be put back into place after the inspection (since, after all, their technicians dug the trench), they conveniently informed me at that time that this would require a "backfill charge" and that I'd have to pay additional money for their workers to clean up the mess that they created. Because I had already paid in full, I had little leverage with which to dispute this, which is why I am taking the time to write my first negative Yelp review. If this backfill fee was a pre-established policy, this should have been clearly communicated to me before any services were rendered as, after all, it seems common sense for a contractor to "leave things the way they found them" when completing a job like this, especially given the high price tag. It is unacceptable for a customer to be informed of this fee after the trench has been dug and the backyard is already disheveled. In the best case, this was poor communication but in the worst case, this came off as a petty attempt at extorting additional money out of me. Now, as if the earlier poor communication about appointments hadn't caused enough of a mess of my limited free time off of work, I now have to spend a weekend cleaning up the mess in my yard created by Penny Electric. Due to the wiring job itself being done well, I cannot give Penny a 1-star review. However, their poor communication throughout the course of this job has made them, in my mind, no better than a 4/10 (or 2-star) company. If using them to wire your spa, I would suggest shopping around and, if you do end up selecting them, anticipate at least a few amateur missteps in communication. *UPDATE* Dolores from Penny Electric contacted me and cleared up some confusion with regard to the spa wiring. It turns out that there wasn't supposed to be a backfill charge associated with our job in the first place and that I was misinformed by an associate. However, once she found out about this mix-up, she was proactive in reaching out to me to figure out how to mend the situation considering I had already filled the trench myself. I appreciate this sort of effort from a business. By reaching out, Penny Electric demonstrated that they do not receive as much of a knock for their communication. 4-stars! read more
