We have been using Penryn Vet as we love Dr. Petra, Dr. Mays, Dr. Rich and all the wonderful front office staff and vet staff. Yesterday our old dog needed to be put to sleep and right away they accommodated us. While I was so upset, they remained calm with us and walking us through the steps of what to do. They accommodated Maui in our car by giving him a sedative as he's a very nervous dog. His passing went so smoothly, and they really helped us by remaining kind, supportive, and I felt they were all my family. I couldn't have asked for anything more. I can't imagine what they deal with on a day to day basis. With people and their loved animals. Honestly, if you're looking for a good vet, and reasonable, go to them. I really wanted to like this office and after my first appointment I really was pretty happy it was what happened next that has left me perplexed and a little confused I had my dog in for a FULL check up 7/30/26. He is a 7 year old Yorkshire Terrier in general good health. At this check up he was examined, a heart worm test was run as well as a blood panel and a urine panel. We discuss bringing him back in for a dental I left paying my bill of $775.00. The next day Friday I was called by the vet I had seen and was told all labs looked good nothing to worry about and his urinalysis looked great and I would be contacted for an estimate for the dental. Late that evening Saturday mornin, at about 1:30 -2:30 AM my dog began getting up frequently to go to the bathroom on indoor peepee pads. I eventually got up and looked and found very small spots of urine with bright red blood in them and what appeared to be a blood clot type thing coming out of his p***s. To say I was startled and worried would put it mildly. Less than 24 ago he had just gotten a clean bill of health. I sent in a request for an appointment to Penryn pet hospital. Then I called them as soon as they were open hoping to get some assistance because we had just been there and they would have the doctors notes etc. I can't tell you how disappointed I was to be turned away and told to go to an emergency vet clinic. My first thought was why have a clinic open if you can't get in when you need help. So I loaded up my dog and headed to my closest emergency clinic where the testing etc... x-rays - ultrasound - catheter - medication - pain medication (they did not redo the blood work) fluids and 6 1/2 hours of patience and then waiting for the culture to come back - which took 5 days. Yes, it was a bladder infection e-coli, kinda weird for a male dog and it came on so quickly. I have another appointment at the emergency vet to check his urine because the numbers were so high. As we all know when we have a sick animal the first couple of days are the hardest until the antibiotics start to take hold. Now another $1,400.00 I wish I had an easy answer - I was disappointed by the service I received from Penryn pet hospital. To top it off the following week I received a call that they just got my request for an appointment because somehow it ended up in their junk folder. I offer this up as my experience -- we all need to make our own choices. read more

I finally made the leap to Penryn Pet from VCA Loomis Basin (where I was a customer there since late 1990's), as VCA prices have become astronomically high and totally unreasonable. I was hesitant because I really loved my two vets at VCA, but when took one of my four kitties to Penryn Pet to give it a try, all I can say is wow wow wow!! The facility is beautiful, and Dr. Petra Stoyanof is amazing, I mean really amazing! She took extra time to understand my kitties history during my new patient exam and is very kind, gentle and top-notch knowledgeable. Every single staff member from the front desk to the technicians and veterinarians were amazing and kind. Also, the moment I walked in the door for the very first time, it felt like I had been going there for years. It truly feels like family versus a large Veterinary Clinic like VCA Loomis Basin. I am so very happy now and stress free! I am transferring all four of my kitties from VCA to Penryn Pet now. Many thanks to Penryn Pet for providing such a caring environment, great staff and a very, very beautiful and clean facility. It's top-notch all the way! I've been going to Penryn Pet for the Rehabilitation Water Treadmill/Laser therapy and acupuncture with Dr. Camille and Dalynn for over a year with my 9 year old Service Dog. He had an episode of Vestibular Disease which left him with a "head tilt" and stability issues, among other things. I cannot say enough about the fantastic therapy they have provided for him. Recently, Dalynn finished a special Certification Rehabilitation Training course that gave her advanced training in "Laser Therapy" and for targeting certain areas to improve mobility, and the results have been outstanding. Between her new gained knowledge on "Laser" and "Water Treadmill", and the acupuncture therapy from Dr. Camille , he is vastly improved! He now can get onto the couch where he hadn't been able to for many months before. Kudos to Penryn Pet for giving Dalynn the time needed for this opportunity to go through this course and enhance her education to better benefit Penryn and its Rehabilitation Therapy Department. Her and Dr. Camille work so well together, I admire that when I meet with Dalynn and give her an update, I don't have to repeat the same information to Dr. Camille when she comes in to do acupuncture on him. Dalynn has already apprised her of my concerns and addressed all issues which shows how well they communicate with each other. Time management is essential for everyone and it shows that these two are an awesome duo together! His Rehabilitation is a weekly "on-going" process and I cannot thank them enough! LOVE LOVE LOVE. Because I live in Rocklin/Loomis area and was driving to a top Vet in Folsom and another in Sacramento which I'd been with since 2003, I wanted to find a vet closer to me. I saw the grand opening of Penryn Pet Hospital so took a chance. WOW, from the moment I walked in and was greeted by Ginny to our visit with Dr. Petra Stoyanof (HUSBAND SWEARS SHE IS THE BEST EVER), we took the plunge and transferred. It was a difficult decision to leave my other vets, but we are beyond pleased. Everyone makes you feel like family. There were a few challenging weeks when Ginny moved out of state but there's Josie now and she's right there with Ginny! Very sweet, organized and helpful! Currently, we are seeing Dalynn for holistic treatment for our French Bulldog with IVDD. Dalynn possesses a blend of technical, compassion, and communication skills which make my pup and I excited to go to treatments. We love her! read more

Best Staff - Chloe and Ginny are amazingly thorough and compassionate. We found Penryn Pet Hospital because our regular vet could not see our two dogs after they had a dog fight over a treat. We live in Citrus Heights, but after a decade as loyal customers, our vet could not see our girls within a week of the incident. It wasn't an emergency, but they needed to be seen timely in case of infection. After contacting them, they were able to see us the next day. Our 15+ year old rescue Pomeranian was found to have taken the worst of the battle and would need to have some of her rotten teeth extracted. Penryn gave us a quote for the operation and understood our reluctance to pay huge sums of money for a dog close to the end of her life. The quote was $2500+ for 6 teeth to be extracted. But during the surgery, she needed 18 teeth extracted! I nearly passed out thinking about the upcoming invoice. Upon pick up, Penryn adjusted the price to $1800+. We could not have been more appreciative. The next month we adopted an older Papillon puppy. Penryn was running a special for neuters and the price was very reasonable. For $600+ Penryn was able to neuter, vaccinate, microchip, and clean our Papillon's teeth. After 6 months, we are beginning to transition all of our pets (3 dogs and 4 cats) to the care of the multiple vets at Penryn Pet Hospital. We will be leaving our local Vet in Citrus Heights in favor of better prices, better communication, and kinder and empathetic staff. We couldn't be happier to have found Chloe, Ginny, Jessie, Dr. Mays, and the other techs at Penryn Pet Hospital. read more

My kitty hurt her leg and her regular vet couldn't get her scheduled in what I deemed an acceptable length of time. I called Penryn Pet next, and they were able to schedule a last minute appointment. She had an initial new patient exam, X-rays and they kept her most of the day to accommodate my schedule. The attending vet communicated with me via phone throughout the exam process. I was satisfied with kitties care and the cost of the services provided. Nothing was broken- she's doing great now. A few weeks later it was decided by my family that a different kitty in the fam needed help crossing the rainbow bridge due to ongoing health complications and an increasingly poor quality of life. This process sucks- no matter what. It's heart-wrenching and terrible. I decided to give Penryn Pet try again instead of kitty's regular vet. I was blown away at the compassion and care ALL staff showed me and kitty. They were so kind and thoughtful from the moment I walked in. They allowed my emotional wreck of a self to stay with my kitty through the process and they didn't rush. The vet doing the deed took her time to explain the process with kindness and compassion. I've been through this horrific experience too many times to count, but this was by far the best worst experience. It was also $200 cheaper than the last time I went through this at a different vet. Two weeks ago I had to make the heartbreaking decision to euthanize my 14 year old mastiff mix. The two vet clinics I usually go to were booked for over two weeks, and I did not want to make him suffer waiting that long but also did not want to have to pay extra for an ER visit. I called Penryn and they got me an appointment the following Saturday no problem. The Techs and the Vet were all so kind and compassionate which made such a sad visit so much better. One of the Techs, Julie, went above and beyond. We had our 5 month old daughter with us who was starting to get fussy while we were trying to say goodbye our boy, and she came back into the room with a rattle she made to keep the baby happy and even offered to hold her and entertain her so we could focus on the dog while he passed. This meant the world to us and I will never forget her kindness. We have two other dogs and a cat and will be scheduling new patient appointments ASAP to transfer their care here after such a great experience! read more

I saw Dr. Mays she told me my dog had a "yellow glob" on her inner ear and she had an ear infection or possibly a tumor. I was given medication that was very expensive and made her nauseated and had no appetite. I went to another vet today who said my dog has vestibular disease which Dr. Mays insisted she didn't have and the "yellow glob" was ear wax. I was very disappointed and upset with the misdiagnosis. read more

My 14 year old senior cat was scratching like crazy but I didn't see any fleas on him. He also had several odd bumps on parts of his body. I made the appointment on a Friday and he got to see Dr. Petra on Monday. He got a full exam, was treated with special flea stuff and they took a blood sample. Dr Petra called me the next day and no big issues came up on the blood test. I love the fact that they are very close by and that I didn't have to wait long for an appointment since it wasn't an emergency. My cat had been to LBEMC before and the wait was long and regular appointments were not available for a couple of weeks. Everyone at the office was friendly and you get the idea they really want to help your pet. Having the option of another vet office in Loomis is wonderful. read more

I felt compelled to write this review because I feel it's important to be transparent with patients during vulnerable times and unfortunately I did not feel that way when my dog received a surgery here. My 11 year old Alaskan malamute had a growing tumor inside her ear that was benign but needed surgery because of the location. Here they refer out to a specialist who performs these surgeries but uses their facility. Since the surgeon did not see my dog in person until the day of surgery we did not know what surgery he would perform he only seen pictures of her ear. It was explained to me that he may have to do what's called a TECA or a pinnectomy by Penryn's vet at this time. Side note: Pet dermatologist can perform a in-house procedure where they cut the tumor off and cauterize it which makes the procedure very minimal and less invasive but they were booked out for 2 months so I chose to go this route because the basal cell tumor was growing and bleeding. They said since they did not know which procedure he'd choose they gave me a rough estimate verbally low end (pinnectomy) and high end (TECA) which is a very invasive dangerous surgery. Never sent me an itemized copy of it just verbally. Day of, the surgeon calls me and says he can do what the dermatologist option would have been and he felt that was best and safest route. Great! I'm relieved. I called to get the total estimate after surgery they told me they haven't finished it up yet this was 9-10amish. I asks for a call back with it. Never a call so I called back a couple hours later they said they still didn't have it done. I get there at 5pm to pick my dog up they gave me my estimate and it was the higher end which which was what a major surgery the TECA would have been! I questioned how anesthesia would be almost 1k alone. They go back and said they made a mistake and change it to 700. Also they charged me bunch of random fees. For small hospital fees and monitoring my dog fees and for anesthetic meds that should have been apart of anesthesia protocol and then for a very expensive nauseas medication that they give prophylactically . No transparency, very unorganized and taking advanced of people and I had to wait till I got there for the bill. The surgeon did a minimal surgery that wasn't even an option at the time of the estimate and somehow they managed to charge me the highest end of the estimate. Won't be going back. Know several other people who went here and felt the same. Felt compelled to tell others because I just had a bulldog get surgery for palate and sarcoids, cherry eyes, and neutering which required one to one monitoring because it's an airway surgery and I was not charged ridiculous fees for someone to do their designated job or for nausea medication and pain medication pre and post op or for extra sedation medications. They also provided the estimate upfront in paper form and transparent and honest. read more

Our boys did really well for their first visit at the vet's. All the staff that helped us were wonderful and the facility is really clean. I took my labradoodle to Penryn Pet Hospital six days ago - with an appointment - because a family former vet tech thought the dog's urine smelled funny. The vet took a urine sample and it was cloudy. The vet immediately put her on antibiotics through the weekend and said the urine results would be available on Monday and then we would decide what treatment was needed based on the urine sample analysis. I waited most of Monday with no call with the results so called at the end of the day and was told that vet was off all week and woud call me when she returned (a week later!). I said that was unacceptable and was told another vet would call me. Tuesday came and no call. Again, I waited until the end of the afternoon and called, explaining the antibiotic was only for the weekend and was gone, and if this was a serious infection as indicated, then what about treatment. I was told the vet on duty would call me to discuss it after seeing the last patient. No call from the vet and when i called back yet again, I was told the vet had left for the day but I could come pick up the antibiotic. I asked what the infection was and was told a vet would have to talk to me about it but one would call me today to discuss it. Again - no call. If this is what a friendly local vet practice looks like, then I would hate to take one of my pets to them with an emergency or more serious issue. The lack of expressed concern for both the treatment of my dog and for my worry as her owner, has made me decide to forego this clinic (though I live in Penryn) and return to the caring and efficient practice I have gone to for years in Auburn. read more

Called in December to take advantage of the neuter special price. Was told earliest appointment was first week of January but they WOULD honor price if I scheduled wellness exam so I scheduled exam for first week in Jan. 30 minutes before my wellness exam appointment, they called and said vet was sick and next earliest appointment was second week of January. Got the wellness exam done and asked for earliest available surgery appointment. Was told earliest available was two weeks later. Went in for surgery appointment and was told they would no longer honor price because I took too long to schedule surgery. Please note, every time I made an appointment, I asked for first available. How is the vet getting sick and scheduling issues my fault? What a scam. Have since called around and found out most vets in the area are much cheaper so I guess it worked out.
