If you're at the Penske Automall and have time to kill while waiting for your car to be serviced, the Penske Racing Museum is a great distraction -- and the best part is that it's FREE. This is a self-guided museum with informational plaques for every exhibit. The museum itself is on the smaller side, so if you just breeze through without reading anything you could probably finish in 15 minutes... but that would completely miss the point. The real fun is learning the history behind each car, trophy, and piece of racing memorabilia on display. Most of the vehicles are IndyCar and NASCAR race cars, along with a few pace cars. The museum has two levels: downstairs features the full-size cars, while upstairs has trophies, scale models, and other memorabilia. There's also a small cafe upstairs that serves food. I tried the chicken tenders and fries, which came out piping hot and were surprisingly delicious. Even if you're not a huge car enthusiast or racing fan, this place is absolutely worth checking out. read more

Awesome little free museum! Saw a local influencer went here and I was influenced to take my son who is obsessed with all things cars. Everything indoors in phx is so expensive so it's nice to have something to do in summer that isn't! We got here right when it opened and it wasn't busy! There are two floors and a little cafe on the second floor. My son loved seeing all the cars, the engines, model cars, and trophies. Definitely worth a visit if you are nearby! read more

I was looking for things to do on a rainy day with my 4 year old (car enthusiast) son. This was a great stop on our list! The wonderful thing is that it is free. When we went (on a Sunday afternoon), the upstairs part was closed (which I think is where the cafe is located), so it was really just one big room with maybe around 20 cars and racecars on display. It will really only take you 5-10 minutes to walk around there. The nice thing is that it is located in a plaza with some other fancy car dealerships, so we walked around to see some of the fancy cars (Maserati, Porche, Aston Martin, Rolls Royce, Bentley) as well. read more

My husband and I visited the Penske Auto Mall during the 2025 Arizona Car Week for a cars and coffee event, and it was amazing. We don't live in town, so we didn't realize that there were so many luxury dealerships on the campus. Google showed us that the racing museum was also there, and we feasted our eyes on so many amazing cars in and around the museum. I'm a former educator and a reader at heart, so I had hoped for more descriptive signage. I would have loved to read a sign about the history of Roger Penske as a driver, the founding of Team Penske in 1966, and about how motorsport is related to all of the businesses that are part of the Penske Corporation. But thankfully, the internet exists, so I was able to catch up on all this after our visit. The visual experience of the museum was excellent. They pack a lot of exhibits into a compact area, and the space flows. It was neat to see the winning cars and trophies and memorabilia. I was especially moved by a beautiful commemorative wall tapestry that was created for a racing victory. The best part was that the museum was free! Small museum with some cool displays but not very many. The location however, makes this place pretty awesome. Being able to walk around the high end dealerships this museum is located at makes you feel different. I love the engines on display and wish they had some broken down to pistons. Would be cool to see a cutaway, but as an engine geek, I still loved being able to see the racing engines. read more

If you like race cars and have a few minutes while in Scottsdale, it's definitely worth it to check out the Penske Racing Museum. The museum is open during the day and weekends to the public and no admission fees. The Penske group has more racing wins than any other automotive group and houses some of the original stock cars and trophies. They are immediately next to the Lamborghini dealership and offer plenty of parking . As you enter upstairs you can also see some mountain views . It's worth a look if you are a car enthusiast. read more

Fun free museum for car and racing lovers. I'm not either of these things but still enjoyed the history and the photos. The little boys and adult boys loved it. We will have to return on a weekday when the upstairs cafe is open as it looks like they have miniature car models to view. Calling this a museum is very misleading. There are only about 12 cars to see with very minimal information regarding them. This is more of an extended showroom of the car dealerships it is sandwiched between. Don't expect to learn any information or have many photo ops, this is just a place to kill some time while you're waiting to get your car serviced. They have a second floor but it was closed today. However, I was told all that is up there are trophies. The attendant at the front desk was very polite and the entry cost is free but aside from that it's hard to find many positives. Some really awesome cars, however very little information about them, just the quick specs. read more

Refuses to say hello to you even though we said hello to her first. I have heard from other non-whites that have had the same experience. It's in the middle of a luxury dealership complex so it feels awkward but if you like cars it's worth checking out if you are in town. The attendant knew a lot about the cats and walked sons with us telling us about the cats. Then he took us upstairs where there were more treasures. Afterward he welcomed us to walk around the dealerships to look at the modern cars and noted that a brand new Ferrari model has just rolled in, encouraging us to check it out. read more

We were doing a stayca in the area with family and stumbled upon Penske Racing Museum. With 3 nephews in tow it was an adventure worth exploring. It is a showroom with racing cars in pristine condition. It was super cool and free! It's a small collection of racing cars, but glad they have a variety to look at. Love the 72 Oldsmobile Cutlass. Man, that car was a beauty during its day. I used to own a 72 Cyclone which looks similar having that monster grill up front!! That car had so much torque, you tap just slightly on the gas pedal and away you go!! I was also here for my company's event. They rented the entire upstairs for our private party. Their staff here was amazing. Their catered food was fantastic. If you have a car nut in your family, you must go here. First of all, it's sandwiched in between car dealerships of men's dreams: Audi, Mercedes, Bentley, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Rolls Royce, Porsche, etc. --- all in one long building. So first there is the driving & gawking around the parking lot, then the walking & gawking around the back lot. Then a Ferrari spokesperson/salesperson very kindly spent time talking to my husband about Ferraris and let him sit in an SUV (highlight of my husband's year). The Racing Museum is graciously free admission, and it contains a glorious amount of the greatest race cars ever (and I'm from Indianapolis saying this). It is very high quality in all aspects: the cars, the displays, the lighting, the seating, the views, etc. IF you love Indy 500 type racing cars, this would be a must-see for you. Second floor has huge trophy case full of amazing trophies & a small snack bar. The whole museum is really not very large, but perfectly done. read more

We toured the Museum on a Saturday afternoon late in the day. The Museum Guide Ken not only was very knowledgable but gracious enough to take time to discuss various unique aspects of the race cars and the history behind each car. We then went outside and looked over the Ferraris, Maseratis, Lamborghinis on the sales lot. What a treat to look at such beautifully engineered machines. There is even a car lot full of Land Rovers with The Defender Trek Edition my favorite. All in all it was a great visit and one I will personally remember for a long time. A great place to stop by and check out. It's FREE. On the lower level there are a lot of awesome cars with a lot of history behind them. Upstairs is a cafe and a load of trophies. This is the first time I have seen any of those trophies up close and some are real works of art. There is a gift shop there too and everything is reasonably priced. Kudos to Roger Penske for sharing some amazing racing history with everyone free of charge. Lastly, the cars outside the museum and spectacular as well. This was pretty awesome. Such a great collection of different race cars and memorabilia. They also hav engines on display which my husband loved. It was really cool to see these amazing vehicles up close, all the detail, everything that goes into them. You cannot really appreciate the engineering while watching from the stands or on television. To be mere feet away you can see so much. The absolute cherry on top is this is nestled amongst some of the finest car dealership brands in the world. To stroll through some of the showrooms and view other world class automobiles was a great experience. read more

I was surprised that this is a FREE admission. My wife and I took our grandson to look at all the racing cars. Nicely done. You could look at all the race cars within 30 minutes or less. There are two race cars towards the back that Helio Castroneves drove in 2002 and 2009 and won the race. We ventured next door and my grandson sat in a Maserati selling for $172K. He was thrilled. He put the photo on Facebook. Well worth the trip to see these fantastic cars. read more

If your bank account is more Ford Focus than Ferrari, fear not, because it's free to check out the various racing cars from the arsenal that are located here. There are winning Indy and NASCAR vehicles, as well as some pretty impressive trophies in the trophy case on the second floor. Family out from redneck-ville in South Carolina. Wanted to go see all the "nice" cars we drive in Arizona... LOL Took them to the automall in Scottsdale and found this place. WOW. Really cool, was a hit with the kids, the 15 year old was drooling all over the place. While I knew non of these cars and racers... family from South Carolina knew them all! Good place to waste some time. There is even a Cafe to eat a light breakfast and lunch. If I ever buy a Ferrari, guess this is where I will get mine serviced. read more
