I cannot say enough about our recent stay at the Pentagoet Inn. My husband and I had the pleasure of staying two nights in a very charming and spotless room. The bed was super comfortable, and the bedding, high quality. I'm not sure how it's possible to have an establishment with so many professional and caring people on staff but everyone we ran into was super helpful and accommodating. The food was absolutely superb. Everything we tasted was a cut above the norm and we were definitely well fed from the delicious dinners to the hardy breakfasts. I cannot emphasize enough the care that Matt, George, and team showed to us during our stay. We look forward to another Pentagoet experience in the future so we can experience that old world charm again. With gratitude.

Here is an honest evaluation of Pentagoet. It is an older converted Victorian with nice memorabilia from the area. The three staff members I met were very nice. One was Katie, who checked us in, and the other two were ladies who served the breakfast, as well as performed housekeeping tasks. It is not handicapped accessible, and all rooms are on the second and third floors. Our room, #12, was on the third floor. It was a small room with a very small bathroom. The shower and sink were tiny to the point of being uncomfortable. However, there was plenty of hot water, and good water pressure. There was no air conditioning, but there was a room fan that was inadequate during the day as the room remained uncomfortably hot; but sleeping was comfortable if you kept it on low during the cooler night. In terms of modern amenities there was no TV in the room (a plus for us), and there were no USB connections in the outlets. I would recommend they purchase a multiple outlet connection with USB connections, and plug it into a wall outlet. It would be a simple, inexpensive solution. There was no coffee maker in the room. I would also recommend someone perform a walkthrough in each room and make minor fixes. We had a painting fall off the wall and the locks were loose, and could be easily tightened. In addition, the pocket door would get stuck either in the wall when opened, or when the door was closed. I mentioned these issues to the lady that checked us out. The breakfast was nothing special. There were two warming trays. One contained overcooked sausages and lukewarm scrambled eggs. The other had some type of blueberry pastry and home fries. See pictures below. There were also some store bought muffins, as well as small fruit bowls, yogurt and granola. The second morning there was one warming tray with potatoes and the same blueberry pastry. I recommend that they purchase toasters and offer toast and english muffins with different types of jams, as they offered no toasted items at all. This would make a big difference. The coffee was pretty good, and it was offered at the breakfast buffet, as well as being placed outside the rooms at 7:30 AM. I thought the room was overpriced for what was offered, and note that they require a two night minimum stay. Nice people, but we won't be returning.

If I could give it six stars, I would. Delightful inn within a charming and beautiful small town. The new owners, Matt and George, were incredibly welcoming from arrival to departure. We stayed in Room 4 which was very large and quiet. The bed and linens were comfortable so I slept great. While the town is small, the locals were friendly and we enjoyed our stay there. Be sure to go out to the Dyce lighthouse for perfect sunset views. The inn is also about an hour from Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor as well as 20-30 minutes from several small other towns we enjoyed during our stay. I will plan to return in the warmer months!

Thoroughly hospitable, she gave us great insight to the town, its history, and the MMA. The room itself was nice. Furniture was a bit random, but the bed was comfortable, the shower and sink had hot water and good pressure, and above all, it is QUIET! No road noise whatsoever. It was the quietest place I have ever stayed, including my home. Blissful! Breakfast was excellent with 2 kinds of quiche, bagel sandwiches, scones and muffins, granola, yogurt and toppings, juices, fruit bowl and watermelon, and strong coffee. A very good way to start our day. We enjoyed our stay, but yes, it was $320 pricey. Not many lodging options in Castine made this a necessity, but we did enjoy it, despite the price. If our son chooses MMA, we will be back!

Over the years I have seen it go down hill and perhaps this visit- a tiny bit better. It's disappointing to see that the owners have put so little into the property nor the personnel to make it warm and charming- no-one at the front desk to greet people nor interact with the guests. Especially on a holiday weekend. A dining room that could serve lunch and dinner & a bar that could be a wonderful social meeting place. Neither operating. The town and the tourists deserve better and I hope one day they get it back again.

The place is super cozy and rustic - all dark wood, fire places, etc. We had no expectations going in and we were very happy with the food and the service. The chef came by and even sat down with us for a bit to give us some dining recommendations while we were in Maine - he also happened to be from or once lived in NJ like us. We each had an order of the gumbo and shared a side of onion rings. The gumbo was tasty and the perfect portion. The onion rings were also really good with the dipping sauce. We decided to share a piece of blueberry cheesecake before we hit the road and had zero regrets. It was a really pleasant meal and I would recommend this restaurant if you are in Searsport.

I'll start with the food: I am a food snob. Not a foodie.. a SNOB. When I cook at home, I use the highest quality ingredients and flavor matters. You'll never see me rave about food that contains any pre-made or processed ingredients. Restaurants are a low-profit business and typically cut corners to watch profits. So, it's rare to find a restaurant that takes obvious pride in their food and DELIVERS on that pride. The Homeport Tavern is a gem! We ordered the French onion soup and calamari appetizers and the Tavern burgers. The calamari was hand breaded and fresh, not from frozen. So delicious. The soup was the best French onion soup we've ever had - did I taste a hint of Jamaican all-spice? This tavern isn't afraid to use expensive spices to achieve ultimate taste. The burgers were to die for - incredibly fresh tasting grass fed angus, cooked to a perfect medium rare (most places can't seem to cook a proper medium rare, but the Tavern nailed it). The crispy fried piece of pork belly atop the burger was amazing - cut thick and seared at a high heat for a delightful texture and flavor. The coleslaw, obviously fresh and homemade with a poppy seed in-house dressing, was a nice palette cleanser between divine burger bites. Topping this all off is the best selection of draft beers we've seen in a while! Our server was perfect in every way. She was attentive, knowledgeable, accommodating, friendly, and professional. Top notch. Now let's get to the atmosphere. The Tavern is an adorable old Maine mixed with rustic old Irish charm type of architecture. We could hear Gaelic pub music - think minstrel - before walking in. When we entered, we saw an Irish folk band of about 6 musicians playing gleefully, which, along with the old Irish pub atmosphere, truly made us feel as if we're were transported to a time and place in folklore. The entire experience made us fall in love with Homeport Tavern and we will definitely be back again and again.
