If you have never been to Penzey's you need to get there fast! They have so many spices it is unreal! The best part of for me, is that the spices come in different sizes or quantities! If you want to try something, get a smaller bag or bottle. If you know your husband goes through smoked paprika faster than any human should, get the jumbo bag! This place is a chefs dream. A total Gem in the strip district. I love to do my produce shopping, pick up meats at Wholeys and then stop in Penzeys Spices to find some magnificent season to add to my meal of the day! No matter what spice you're looking for this place has it! They're not exactly cheap but you can buy refillable bottles or bags in bulk. My favorite spice here is the Chicago steak seasoning. Are use it as rub or sprinkle it on steaks very generously. You have to try it. read more

The snozzberries smell like snozzberries! (yes, it does smell like good stuff in there - I think it smells like something different to everyone! ~invisible air art~) First things first, the man and his daughter who were staffing the shop when I visited were the nicest, most relaxed, and conversational people, and we had tons of fun talking about gluing sesame seeds to our faces. Which you can't do in this store, because there is no self-serve style spice counter (a lå health food stores), and also because it might violate some codes. Anywho, the family-ownership is lovely, and OBVIOUSLY they knew exactly what they were talking about, all the time, whether it related to which spice I needed, or which nearby Asian grocer to consult for green onions, etc. I got a 4 oz PILE of sesame seeds in a pre-packaged bag for only 1.99....crazy! They have a store in Houston where I live - but I shop at this store when visiting friends in Pittsburgh and we spend a weekday at the strip. This time I bought 6 types of spices. If you spend $30 you get a free small spice offering of the month. I'm trying the chili spices and I bought a big bottle of the Paris mix -- so good. My friend loves their vanilla sugar, and other extracts. Lots of peppercorns and salts. Staff is helpful and very knowledgeable. read more

Penzey's has a great selection of difficult to find spices, and they have a knowledgeable staff who can help you find what you need. They are, however, fairly pricey - you're definitely paying extra for the selection and quality they've got. Unless you're loaded or a ridiculous food snob I would come here for special hard to find items (like berbere, mahlab, or Aleppo pepper), or super high quality regular spices (like cinnamon etc) for very special occasions. read more

Had a huge variety of spices and the store smelled amazing. There is a large old photo of the city displayed along the wall of the new expansion and while on a tour of the Strip District, our guide explained to us that the photo had been uncovered while they were making the addition. read more

Huge selection of spices. Sample jars are sitting out so you can smell what you're getting. If you buy in their bulk bags and you get twice as much for a lower price. We've sampled our chipotle pepper spice that we got here and I find myself using it on everything. read more

I don't know if I can add much to all of the glowing reviews of this place. It's quite obvious that this is THE place to go for all of your spicing needs. Although it's a one-trick pony, the quality of everything from my experience is usually spectacular. And you simply can't beat the amazing smell of blended goodness every time you walk into the store... Try one of the variety packs/boxes for gifts (although some of them can be a bit pricey): it's a sure bet that the recipient will absolutely love it (and you). Penzey spices are amazing! Excellent quality. Incredible assortment. This location is huge and roomy, which is unusual in the Strip district where everything else is cramped. Parking can be tricky on busy days but there are pay lots nearby. I absolutely love the recipes and tips that are available in the store. They have great make - it - yourself gift boxes too! read more

What an experience! The store is clean and well organized, and if you like to cook exploring the different sections is a lot of fun and can give you many ideas. The spices are nicely packaged in different size containers and many have samples out that you can smell. read more

The Store was very nice. Not pack full you can really look at the baskets full of spices. Everyclerk was attending people with an interest in what the customer had to ask. I did notice some of the basket that offered saffron the spice was missing. These baskets were along the wall and out of site of the sales clerk. The basket that contained saffron that the salesclerk could see still had the spice in it. I realize that this spice is very expensive. But I guess people will walk away with anything. I hope they are happy and pleased with themselfs. To Penzeys Spices take care where you "trust" people with your products. I really enjoyed your store. I hope this gets to the right people that work at the store so they can protect what they sell. read more

I will never return here. I came in on Wednesday and my partner and I were coldly ignored when we walked in yet all of the women and straight couples were warmly greeted. We spent twenty minutes looking around and no one would make eye contact with us yet the staff were falling over themselves to help everyone else. The mecca of spices. This review is coming from someone with Pakistani heritage mind you. My spice drawer is about triple the average in the US. I. love. this. place. Everything that you could want, from individual spices (common, gourmet, and exotic) to their custom blends. They also make spice starters for dressings and soups. Awesome gift sets as well. They are a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for and then some. On top of everything, the staff is awesome, helpful, and pleasant. I could spend a full day in here. read more

I love, love, love to cook and try new spices and recipes. Penzeys has just about everything you need to spice up your dishes. The 1st time entered the store, I was amazed at how their spices seems so much for intense/bright/deliciously scented. I got hooked on their course ground pepper which is mildly spicy but rich in flavor; it is so tasty, regular pepper is a joke to me now. They also carry this amazing Malabar Pepper; it has a much deeper pepper flavor and it is one of my staples in cooking. They have amazing blends too. I am a fan of Indian spices and curry and they have many choices in that category. I think it would be easier to list what they don't carry then what they have. Get their catalog and if you order online they have many deals and give free samples. I urge you to get their own PEPPER, it comes in many grinds and whole, I'm sure you will forego boring regular pepper as soon as you give theirs a try. read more
