My voice was hoarse and breathy and low, pretty much lost my voice. After a few months I got concern, so I went to my medical doc, many tests, many referrals to specialists, many bills. MD wants to medicate for a "silent" acid reflux - throwing darts in the dark, and more tests and repeat tests in 6 months. ENT wants to do surgery to remove a tiny little polyp on my vocal cord. Voice therapist wants to provide therapy. I was going in circles and very frustrated with the process.
