On October 30th at 2:09 PM, I brought my car to Pep Boys Auto, store #1480 (1846 5th Avenue, Bay Shore, NY) for a state inspection, Service Work Order #2086265. My car failed inspection because it was missing one rear driver-side lug stud. What's most disappointing is that neither the technician, Edward F., nor the service manager, Paul Nembhard, said a single word before performing the inspection to inform me that the missing lug stud would cause an automatic failure. If they had simply told me, I could have easily purchased a replacement lug stud elsewhere since one was not available for purchase in-store, which was an inexpensive fix, and avoided failing the inspection altogether. When I asked Paul why they wouldn't notify me about an issue like this before proceeding, his response was that it "wouldn't be ethical." That explanation made absolutely no sense. There is nothing unethical about informing a customer of an issue that will cause their car to fail. What would be unethical is passing the car without the repair, which I never requested or implied. Instead of understanding my point, Paul completely misconstrued my words, repeatedly insisting that I wanted his mechanic to "do something illegal" by passing the vehicle as-is. That was not what I said or meant. I only wanted to be notified of the issue so that I could fix it before it resulted in a failure. To make matters worse, after the failure, I was told I would have to pay an additional $10 for the reinspection once I replaced the lug stud. When I expressed my frustration about the lack of communication that led to this unnecessary cost, Paul's only response was, "It's just $10 to get the car reinspected." That dismissive attitude showed zero concern for my time and money. I even made the analogy that if my windshield wiper was missing, something Pep Boys conveniently sells in-store, any reasonable manager would suggest buying and installing one before failing the inspection. Paul had no answer for that either. On top of everything, I was charged an additional $10 to have the car reinspected at another state approved facility after I resolved the issue myself. This was a cost that could have been avoided entirely had they communicated properly from the start. This entire experience reflected a serious lack of professionalism, poor communication, and a disregard for customer service. I left extremely dissatisfied and disappointed. I will not be returning to Pep Boys Auto, store #1480, and I strongly advise others to take their business elsewhere. read more

Truly deserve zero stars. I brought my car in with a check engine light. They spent the entire day with it and didn't make a single phone call to give me an update on my car. After I complained to corporate, they finally got in touch the next morning with what they thought was the problem, along with a ridiculously high estimate on the repair. I refused to let them do the job and took my car to a different shop for a second opinion. Not only did that shop not find any problems with my car that would necessitate any repairs, but they also waived the fee on my diagnostic. My car has been running perfectly fine ever since. I called the Bay Shore location to see when I could get an appointment for four new tires. Will in the tires/service Dept answered my call and was very friendly, informative and he told me that I could come by after work and they would take care of this right away. I showed up around 6pm and he and a coworker stayed an hour later than normal (8:30pm) to ensure my car was serviced that same day. Went to get a simple oil change by appointment and a few days later all 4 quarts of oil is in the street because the mechanic simply forgotten to tighten the oil drain plug all the way. They towed it back to the location and to start it off the mechanic said he didn't work on it it was the one of the kids that work there until they looked at each other's paper work. Then the mechanic confirmed the oil drain plug was missing and said someone sabotaged me and asked me if I had enemies. Very unprofessional. And after a whole week of my car sitting there corporate finally tells me about the 90 day warranty after a oil change. They did give me a fresh oil change and a new plug. It should've been a 1-3 business day job not even. Very unprofessional they didn't follow up with me and there excuse was "the manager is on vacation and hasn't gotten back to me yet that's why I didn't call you back". VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. read more

After i left a good review for pep boys it's turns out this place is a scam. I went in for a oil change about a few months back at the Bayshore location. Turns out a few months later after they did my oil change they stripped the bolt going into the oil pan and bent the inside where the bolt goes itself. I should've knew something was up when I saw everyone whispering and carrying on like everything was alright. Instead of doing the right thing they screwed up my pan and the bolt. I do not recommend going here for a oil change. The biggest scum on earth is people that take advantage of other people. Do not go here. Thank me later. Oh and let's not forget 3 people I gave a 20$ tip too as well. read more

Like someone else stated, deserves 0 stars. Back a few years ago, this location wasn't bad. Now it's just unreliable. I can't say the staff was ever rude to me, but it's the operations behind it that makes this location terrible. There is always an issue of why they can't perform their job functions and it is why I stopped coming here to this location. But you know, I always try to give it another shot and today was that day and I was met with disappointment yet again. Had a 10:30am appointment for a very simple tire rotation. Got there at 10:20am, 2 workers greeted me, asked if I was going to leave my car, I stated no, I would be waiting. After a couple of minutes of shuffling papers and looking in the computer, they asked if they could reschedule me for another day because they had no technicians available. It's 10:30am! They opened at 7am! Why are there no technicians at work yet?!?! Also, what are the two of them? Just front end personnel to answer phone calls?! Because they surely were wearing technician clothing! It's a tire rotation! Not an oil change, not any other more complicated process that involves any other machinery. Car goes on lift, air gun is used to remove lug nuts, swap the tires to different location on vehicle, re-torque the lug nuts, lower the vehicle. All would take under 10 minutes, probably 5 minutes at that. The only reason I don't do it myself is because I don't have a lift and only a small car jack that would take longer. But it seems that is what I'm finding myself do at this moment since I'm heading down to Florida on a road-trip. I'm just surprised at this point that they still remain in business. Maybe hire more reliable "technicians" that can get to work on time or to work at all, because it seems that's what they lack. read more

This is a shame. Had an appointment for 7am, get here at 6:58 am from my nice bed and the techs aren't even here! At the time of this review, I've been waiting for 28 mins and still no tech. I've been coming here for a few years now and since the management changed, let's say after today, I'll be finding somewhere else to go for an oil change. Close and convenient to work, been coming for years for basic oil change and tire rotation. I've dealt with Benure for the past few visits and found him to be very attentive and focused on customer satisfaction, more so than prior managers. I was in and out in less than 30 mins. I came to this location for an oil change and inspection, but only was able to get oil change here since they don't do inspections. Besides having to go to another location for that, I did get my oil change and they had good service and timing. Eddie who was at the front desk and checked me in let me know the time frame and price. He was knowledgeable and had let me know other services were needed and he did offer discount, but I'll be coming back another time for that. Considering it's close to home and the service was good, I'll be coming bAck just wish they did have the ability to do inspection too so I didn't have to go to another location! read more

This place is run by a bunch of crooks. I needed a new radiator and a hose and they tried to charge almost $1,800. When I told them that was ridiculous.. they asked me "well how much are you willing to pay?" Really!? They then dropped the price down to $1,200 in less than 2 minutes when they realized I wasn't going to fall for it. I refused their offer and they then tried to charge me $140 for the evaluation (which they initially said they'd waive because I am ex military). Stay away. This place is a rip off. read more

Women Alert - had suggested brake job done. Car has low mileage - 32k in the last 7 years. Dropped off early Monday was told they would call with the charge. 5:00pm called said bill $600, Hit me kind of expensive, but they were local and could do quickly. Tuesday afternoon received call it was ready, wife & son went too picked up. Wife was charged almost $200 more than what I was told! Immediately got on the telephone, manager said to come back about he would work it out. She went back and was told they couldn't process the credit till Friday because credit machine was down. This "gravely" alarmed me - a business running out of paper so they can't process CC transactions. Next morning went back, blasted one of the mechanics about charging woman more than men. When the manager arrived, he alerted him I was there. Ended with credit applied back on credit card, leaving had an unsatisfactory feeling. This entire ordeal could have been avoided if I had went to another repair shop to see if there was an issue with the brakes? Propose of post is to make people aware especially women, suggested levels of restitution they have if feel they are being taken advantage of by this establishment. * First - want to document and have proof of your claim. Most cell phones have audio and video recording. * Second - Paying with a credit card, have three days to contest/cancel charge. * Third - PepBoys.com contacting customer service. * Fourth - filing a formal complaint on the New York AG website. * Fifth - filing a civil lawsuit - police station is right down the road. Call them you need a police officer to take a report, which can later use in small claim court. read more

i recently moved to brentwood from brooklyn. I needed some work done on my car so I seen PepBoys was close to me. I walked in the store and right away I was greeted like Ive been going there for years. Pedro the store manger had no problem taking my car in and placed it on the lift and gave it a walk thru. Pedro stated I would have to put a lot of money in to keep the car running right boy was Pedro right. The car means alot to me. It's really hard to trust people with your car. Pedro built that trust with me and is a real straight up person. He never try's to up sale or lie about a problem with your car. Once the first day I brought my car to Pedro I never thought twice to bring it to another company. I've been going to Perdo for over a year now and will continue to bring my car and future cars to this store only if Pedro is there.
