I had a 3:00 PM appointment for a Pennsylvania state inspection and arrived early at 2:50 PM. Check-in was straightforward and professional. What followed was a nearly three-hour wait with no meaningful communication. I understand that Pennsylvania inspections can take 30-90 minutes depending on workload. However, I received no proactive updates as 3:30, 4:00, and 4:30 passed. The only communication I received was an automated text stating my vehicle would be ready at 5:00 PM. That time passed as well. My vehicle was finally ready at 5:48 PM -- almost three hours after arriving for a scheduled appointment. At no point did anyone explain the delay, provide a revised time estimate, or offer even a simple apology. Delays can happen in any service environment. The issue here was not the delay itself, but the complete lack of communication and basic customer care. Appointments should have meaning. If the shop was running significantly behind schedule, setting expectations or providing updates would have made a substantial difference. I hope management reviews their scheduling and communication practices so future customers are treated with greater professionalism and respect for their time. read more

Why do appointments exist? When you schedule an appointment shouldn't you make sure someone is able to fulfill this within reason? Also what are you supposed to do when there is no parking? I had an appointment with no parking spots available, tech said I couldn't leave in front of store. Viewing numerous people in waiting room, I asked him how long the wait, he said around 2 hours! Walked in for a car inspection, left with a $1,400 bill and no inspection. Got to my car and the car didn't even start. They are just now replacing the battery after they said the vehicle was ready. When I got in the car my glove compartment was on the ground. They couldn't get the hood closed. This has been a disaster. These guys could really careless. I honestly can't believe this place. I'm so disappointed. Legitimately feel like they robbed me. If anyone is on here who can help, please do. This service is not justifiable. read more

After ordering and paying for a 35" tire for my lifted Jeep, I showed up at the location at 2:50 for my 3:00pm appointment. After waiting until 4:05 when they finally pulled my Jeep in to the garage to put the tire on, I was called out to be told that the Jeep was too big - that the tire wouldn't go on. I asked them why they let me sit here for over an hour knowing what I had brought them. No answer worth listening to. I was angry for wasting my time, and as I got in my vehicle to leave I got cursed at and threatened by a mechanic. I stopped to go back inside to ask him what he said, and one of the guys behind the desk stepped in to pull the little thug back in. WOW. Just wow. read more

They try to blame it on me and they stole some expensive electrical equipment and a pricey Bluetooth speaker that was in my car. We scheduled our vehicle for a tire rotation at 5:30pm. First, they complained via text that the appointment was too close to closing and wanted us to come in earlier. We scheduled this through the Pep Boys website and if they didn't want to take appointments at 5:30pm, they shouldn't provide it as an option. Second, when my wife showed up at 5:15pm - 15 minutes early for her appointment - the guy gave her an attitude because that was STILL too late for him. Keep in mind they close at 6pm, so that would have given him 45 minutes to do a 10-15 minute job. Third, he looked at her tires and told her he wouldn't do the job because the tires with the better tread were in the front, which he told her is where you want them on a FWD car. WRONG - and frankly, it's pretty concerning that a mechanic doesn't know that. The tires with the best tread always go in the rear. Fourth, he told her that her tread depth was "too low" and she needed 4 new tires right away. He didn't use a tread depth gauge to determine this; he just looked at them and made his assessment. WRONG again. The tires measure 4-6/32nd all around and while they will need to be replaced soon, they are still well within the legal limits and certainly not beyond rotating. He just wanted to sell my wife a set of tires at far more than she would pay elsewhere. Fifth, I got an email from Pep Boys shortly after saying "Sorry you couldn't make your recent service appointment with us." FALSE again! We were there and you refused to perform the scheduled service. Lastly, Pep Boys rejected my review because they do not permit comments on customer service. What kind of company disregards feedback regarding customer service? Well, I suppose it's the same kind of company that refuses to publish negative reviews. read more

I took my SUV for an alignment and tires inspection....they told me it needed an alignment and after I paid for the alignment, then they told me I needed tires. WTF?! Why would you do the alignment without telling me I needed tires first to make sure I could purchase the tires? That's a shady move. I couldn't get the tires until a couple of weeks later, and had to pay for for an alignment again. Who knows if they even did the work. If you're a woman DO NOT TRUST THIS PLACE. read more

How do you take a car in to get a tire replaced and tell them which specific tire you need replaced , then the technician finds a different tire that supposedly was in bad condition. So instead of informing us of the second tire they proceed to change the tire of the one they found in bad condition instead of the one I went there for in the first place because it was leaking. then we picked up the car and they never told us that they changed a different tire or even give me the option of changing both of them. I've been going to this Pep Boys location for the past 7 plus years . WTF what if my wife got on the high way with the tire we thought we had fixed!! Don't get me wrong I'm happy they found the other one and I would have been glad to pay for both but not telling us when we picked up the car or not calling us to get permission to fix both is poor customer service. read more

Good service and for the cheapest price around. I got a smoke test done. Others quoted me $60 or $90. Pep Boys charged me $30 and got it done quick. EDIT: I wish I could add another star for the service I had today. I took my car to the dealer for a state inspection...they told me I needed brakes. Okay, no problem, my fiancé and I can replace them. Well they must have gotten their feelings hurt because when we went home to take the wheels off, we noticed two of the lug nuts were stripped and the others were just on WAY too tight. I mean, bent our breaker bar tight! It's a Sunday so the dealer is closed. Having to make a long trip, I had to get these brakes replaced. We went over to Pep Boys and Jorge really helped us out. He didn't have to take the 2 minutes to loosen the bolts and get those crappy nuts off but he did! Always impressed with these guys and I appreciate their excellent service. Very good service here. Im usually iffy about places and their staffs but the staffs here were better than friendly. I bought wrong size tires from the site. Had them mounted them on for me and balanced. Drove off for 5 mins and realized my mistake. Had them order me the right size and had them redo every thing all over. Wasting their time but they had no bad expressions. My big mistake but no bad tone, frustration or anything was brought to me. On top of this I came back 2 weeks thinking they didnt balance my tires right. Instead again my mistake. The tech brought me under my car and showed me what was physically wrong and recommended me a location to get help. Thanks gyys! read more

These guys were horrible. I came in for an appt. to get car inspected and they tried to help, but the guys around needed to speak with a manager before going further due to the fact that I am an out-of-state student and my car isn't registered in PA. I was told I would get called by Friday (my initial appt. was Tuesday). I had already called Penn Dot and made sure it was possible to get my car inspected with out of state registration in my situation, and Penn Dot confirmed that it was indeed legal and very much allowed. However, I understand that this is an unusual situation, so I was very understanding of them needing to look into it more before proceeding. Well, Friday comes and goes and I receive no call, so I call on my own on Monday. They tell me that they know what to do now and to make an appt. for later. I make my appt. on Wednesday. On Wednesday I call to make sure that there will be a mechanic around who knows what to do with my car/inspection process, and on the phone the guy tells me "sorry, we're just not going to get involved anymore. I can't help you." I understand that it's their right to either work/not work on a vehicle. However, my biggest problem was that they told me on Monday it was fine, and on Wednesday when I called to confirm they just suddenly changed their minds. They had no decency to call me and tell me this on their own. Thus, had I not called, I would have wasted my time driving there to be told they would no longer help me. Parked mad crooked in the spot out front. Saab needed some parts so decided to check out pep boy. Staff greeted me with all around hand shakes. Walked back out into the blizzard and popped the hood. Showed the staff all my broken parts. There were a lot of rods popped out and some liqud spraying all over the place. They told me to take my car to a repair man. Did buy a few ed hardle floor matts and a leopard print steering cover. Copped some oil can and grabbed a quick sprite. Told the staff thanks for the helps and left them my small Business card. So disappointed. I scheduled to have two cars serviced (tires & wheel alignment) after speaking with a member of their sales team and getting a price on the phone. I even paid for 4 special order tires online prior to scheduling to ensure they were available. Once I received confirmation that the tires were in I scheduled a 10am appointment online for the 1st car. I got there at 9:15am and the manager shared that the bay door where the alignment machine is located was broken and my vehicle wouldn't be able to get an alignment (why get new tires without an alignment??). The car needed tires, so I moved forward with the balancing/mounting. At 1:25pm the car was completed (I waited over 4hrs to have 4 pre-paid tires get balanced/mounted). The team member (manager) which I spoke with upon arrival was no where to be found. On my bill, I was charged for an alignment. How is this possible? They were still working on the bay door at 1:30pm. The member at the counter shared he didn't know what arrangements were made prior and that I would need to call back and speak with the first member I pre-order my tires with. So I paid the bill. I drive no more than five minutes down the road and the car has a wobble and the wheel has a slight tilt. I call the Pepboys shop right away. I was told that they can't get me in until the morning. What? Needless to say I called customer service and got a case number. However, 3 business days have passed and I have yet to receive a phone call from the district manager. I called again and was told I have to wait another 24-72hrs to have my call returned. What? The customer care agent also shared that they did not get back to be for a reason which he could not disclose. Interesting. Needless to say I canceled the appointment for the second car. I should have read these reviews prior to scheduling. I am still waiting to hear back from the district manager. It seems that customer satisfaction/care/follow-up is not important to PepBoys in this district. read more

The $19.99 oil change is such a gimmick. I set up my appointment and registered my type of vehicle online, so they new exactly what they would be working on and printed out my coupon. But when I walked in I was immediately informed it would be $60 because I needed synthetic oil. Lured in with the promise of one price, forced to pay $40 higher. Very shady and crooked. read more

I am very disappointed that during a time like this that they such a big name company would have such scammers representing their name. SCAMMERS Took my truck and they told me i needed a new motor at first. $4000 its a 2003 of course i said no. Now time goes by the next day as im headed to pickup my truck they call and state they misdiagnosed. Now its just radiator but its only $1200. i beg them not to touch my truck if they're not sure. i don't want to spend 1200 and then come back to spend 4000. i stressed this, i asked them of they was sure. he promised me they checked the truck throughly and was positive. I pay 1200 to fix the truck in less than 5 hrs the coolant was empty bone dry. Now im speeding money feeding the truck coolant that is just leaking out. i call over the phone he is just saying bring it back. i take it back NOW HE SAY $3000 more. So how do you find a way? stealing is wrong! i cant believe this Robbed me for 1200$ DO NOT TRUST THIS LOCATION its sad that they dont see anything wrong with this not only have they kept me out of what i need to do but to take $1200 like this the truck is doing exactly like it was before i took it there... they misdiagnosed the service and said oh well we got you for $1200. I took my car in for a state inspection. The mechanic was Kevin. He called and told me the back brakes were at 2/32 which would not pass inspection. He said it would be $500.00 to put new brakes and rotors on. I told them do not do anything that I was going to take it to the dealer. I took the car to the dealer and the back brakes are fine. They are at 6/32 . The only thing I need was an air filter. The Mazda dealer actually sends a video of them doing the work and they show you the brakes and all the other things they are working on. My next call is going to be to the BBB to report this shop. They tried to scam the wrong guy. They also charged me $65.32 be cause they said you pay for the inspection either pass or fail . The store manager is Jason who I'm sure was obviously in on the scam . Needless to say I will never be going back to this scam business and I will make sure that they never try to pull this crap again . I'm sure they have scammed a lot of customers so if you have had your car serviced at this place I would suggest looking into the work that was done. read more

Had great experience in the past. Returned with a pickup truck in need of a brake line repair on Friday Dec 3 2021. Noticed a new guy at the front desk. I Asked if they could show me the problem, guy at front desk told me they could not and said that 'if I wanted to see the bottom of the truck, take it next door'. I should have left but instead I let them take a look. Hours later this same guy called me and quoted the job at $1100.00 and told me I needed a million things that had to be done at the same time. I picked up the truck and he wouldn't give me a print out for the estimate. A couple days later I got an email asking me to reschedule since I had missed my appointment! I guess he tried to make it look like I was never there. I went somewhere else, and they fix it in a couple hours for 455.00 They even send me pictures of the problem! They said nothing else was needed. Needless to say, I never had an issue with the technicians but this guy at the front desk is bad for the business. Had a very bad experience with this particular Pep Boys. I took my car in for inspection end of June 2013. I passed the emissions but needed 4 tires and windshield wipers. So I asked the service tech what size tires I needed and he even printed it out for me. I took this information from the professional to where I get my tires and got me 4 used, but passable ones at my husband's friends junk yard in Williamsport. Got home, went to put them on....wrong size!!! So now...I had to get these wrong ones back to Williamsport to exchange them for the correct ones. I was told the tire info is right inside the car door. Yup - there it was!! The service tech gave me the wrong information, and never even checked that!! So finally we got that straightened out and I went back last night 7/22/13 - they state their hours until 7pm, online and on their doors. I got there at 6:30pm - locked, dark and no one in sight. I needed two tires replaced last night, totally last minute and these guys were able to do it. The mechanic wasn't too psyched as it seems he had hoped to start working on his own car when we got there (he pulled it into the garage as we were leaving tho so that's cool) but the woman at the counter assured me it was totally cool (she was so friendly and helpful). We were in and out in a little over a half hour. The price was awesome (even got 10% with an online coupon). I just wish the mechanic would have told me I needed four new tires because now I have to go back and I might not get the Buy 3 Get One Free deal. Total bummer. But we'll see.
