We scheduled for 2 tires change with alignment, Leonardo told us to wait for an hour and a half, total time waited was approximately 3 hours. We could've get it done at Costco for 30 minutes, if it's not because of an emergency and public holiday. The following day we found out that these 2 coopers ht tires pressure bounces from 35 to 40 where my originally Bridgestone tires were stable. So i decided to call the store the rep was confused and gave us the impression that i was lying - inexperience tech doesn't know Honda Pilot actually tells you each tires pressure. I also spoke to Luis the manager, he said bring the car in which I did and unfortunately those ignorant staff couldn't do anything without the manager around. So I kept calling and left him messages the following day but still haven't got a respond - all I need is switch to Bridgestone or Michelin, or refund me the tires and I'll get Bridgestone from Costco - they could keep the spare change I could careless. Poor aftercare customer service and not only that the staff were very unhelpful but they are rude and irresponsible. Will never go to this store ever again. read more

Before they install any parts on your car please verify the prices because they use shady practices to not tell you the final price, and on top of this, they installed a higher price product that I did not authorized. Next time I'm going to go to the car dealership, because labor cost is cheaper, I payed $260 for a one hour work ( labor only) to change my breaks and oil. Never thought I'd make a yelp and leave reviews but here I am with my first one. Came here for an alignment last week and the guy couldn't balance my tie rods correctly so my steering wheel was off center. Had to put it on and off the rack 3 times and the mechanic was telling me everything was good and alignment was good but didn't realize the issue. Came back the following week for a fix with a different mechanic and he took the car out for 10 minutes to "test" the car and see the issue which is ok, but my problem now is that after driving around for that long he didn't even center it correctly. Now my steering wheel is off center in the OPPOSITE direction. I ended up just leaving the place and I will be paying another shop to balance my tie rods to get my steering wheel centered. Ridiculous that I have to take days off from work and pay $100 for a job that's not even done correctly after numerous attempts with 2 DIFFERENT mechanics. Edit: Went to pep boys in Lodi and got another alignment for free, every single one of my wheels were off and I saw it on the charts. Guy fixed my car up within 15 minutes without even test driving it. Ridiculous to think my alignment was completely wrong after multiple attempts of trying to do so. read more

Worst experience ever. Not only did I wait 2 hrs to have only two tires replaced, but had to come back 1 month later to replace one of the tires they fixed because it wouldn't hold air. In the meantime, I realized that they did not replace either air valve cap and one of my wheel locks was missing. When I came back again about this I had to wait over 2 hours to get this fixed and they still made me pay a service fee to fix their mistake. Save the money and go somewhere else! LONG wait times, insanely expensive, and constant problems. They will "fix" one thing and leave you with 2 other problems. Not shocked they only have an overall 2 star rating. I went for an oil change the other day at a place near me, they replace my bulb but told me my connector was broken. So I called up this Pep Boys since I know they usually have a full stock of mazda parts/etc. I call up and a cheerful guy answered the phone and after I told him my problem, he said they had the part and to come right in, that his workers would be in for another hour (I was 5 min away) and that they would get it done. (Also, I'd like to add that I would be driving 4 hours on vacation the next day so was a little urgent about it since I didn't want to get pulled over.) I walk in and go over to the service station and tell them I had just spoke to someone about coming in for my mazda. The guy looks at me and says "Um, that wasn't me". I'm like "okay, well I'm not sure who it is but they said I could come in so here I am" and he calls some guy over and he starts to claim no one called.... I showed them my phone saying I called THEIR specific number and they just claimed they don't know who did that and that they don't think they have the part. I claim the person said they do, then it looked like he was pretenending to look the part up. Meanwhile half the workers and mechanics were standing around in the garages DOING NOTHING! I was so mad. I kept my cool and said I was upset because I drove over because someone told me to. The guy kept smiling thinking it was a joke. I walked out after that and will NEVER go back! This is the second time I had a problem with jerks at Pep Boys. Last time was another location where the guy basically told me he wouldn't fix my car unless I gave him my number. They seem to have a history of hiring jerks and I will never be going back nor my family and friends especially after I told them about all of it. AutoZone across the street though, I walk in and even though it was the end of the guys shift he comes out into the lot and replaces it in like 7 miniutes not even. I've had two terrible experiences here. The first time, I dropped of my car on a Saturday morning to have all 4 tires replaced. The mechanic accidentally broke something, and my car wasn't ready until late Saturday night. Luckily I didn't get charged for his mistake, but he tried to make me feel bad about it. The second time (more recently), I came in to have a leaking tire fixed. The initial estimated wait time was 45 minutes max. After an hour or so I asked for a status, and they didn't even look at the tire yet. 20 minutes later they told me there was nothing they could do - what a waste of time. The fact that they can't patch up the tire is fine, but I shouldn't have to wait 1.5 hours to hear that. I even used the online scheduler and selected an open time slot before coming in, but I guess that doesn't really do anything. Oh and the best part, after I got back to work, they called me because they forgot to put my tire back in the trunk of my car. I had to drive back and get it. read more

Let me just start by saying I had one of the most refreshing experiences while visiting Pepboys in Hackensack yesterday, and feel extremely grateful because of it. When I arrived, I went straight to the parts counter where I was politely asked if I needed assistance, in which I did. I needed to buy a new front light and was confused as to what to buy, what brand what brightness, etc etc.....I have a 2008 VW passat so my car does not have xenons but I was interested in getting something as bright as I could. Ahmed, the parts manager was honestly one of the nicest people I have ever met. He walked me over to the lights and gave me honest advice on what to buy based on price point and brightness factor. I asked if they were able to install the light for me, in which initially he mentioned they had a services department who could install it at a cost of around 50-60 bucks.....the light that I wanted to buy was 60 bucks also.... My response to him was a shrug of the shoulders and a look around the place in slight confusion thinking to myself if I wanted to spend 50-60 bucks on a light installation...I was hesitant and replied "I'm not sure if I can afford that, hmm I dont know what to do..." and he said, ok buy the light come on, I will help you. I asked, are you sure?? and he said absolutely. I couldn't thank him enough....there was a line of people waiting to get rung up...he went behind the counter and rung me up immediately and followed me outside to install both lights. I can't even begin to explain how nice and professional this man was. He was so kind and understanding of my situation...and went above and beyond to come outside and help me out, when he didnt have to---given the fact that they have a body shop that charges to do something like this. He would not even accept a tip, I must have thanked him a million times and he was acting like it was no big deal, however it meant the world to me. It is so refreshing to have such a positive experience in any retail environment now a days. If you are ever in the area and in need of car parts, I HIGHLY recommend this specific location, and furthermore I highly recommend you ask to speak with Ahmed---one of the nicest people I have ever met.....you will NOT be disappointed.... Had an issue with my tire a few weeks ago, brought it to this location. After sitting in the waiting area for over an hour I was informed that i needed a brand new tire. Decided to get a second opinion due to the fact my tire would fill with air but would slowly deflate. Brought it to another auto shop and was told there was simply a nail in the tire. The other repair shop repaired the tire within 30 mins. Also, pep boys attempted to keep my tire and brand new rim after they offered to place my spare on my vehicle so that i could safely drive home. Luckily I checked my trunk before driving off. Buy 3 tires, get the 4th free. Aftermarket 17 inch rims for $86 apiece. Free follow-up service if you're not satisfied with the initial service. You can't beat that. The only thing is that I had to wait a couple of hours on the premises for the work to be done, and there's not much around the area. I called ahead of time and was told it was empty and they could change it in a few minutes. I arrived about 5 min later. The manager said it would be a half hour max. Over 2hrs later still no change. Last year, I brought my van there for brakes. They did it for $1,500. Two days ago my van failed inspection because if the emergency brakes. I brought my van there last night for the brakes. They said they will do it for $1,100 because it will be 8 hours of work. This morning I came in and they said the did it in 6 hours. BUT THEY STILL CHARGED ME $1100. WHAT THE HELL? Took my daughters car in and spent about $2000 in repairs only for it to break down within a week. When we took it back and after them holding it for about a week they came up with several more so-called issues that were not present before and now they are asking for another $2000? What a horrible shop. The mechanics must work on commission and the more they sell the more they earn. From the second my husband walked in the technician was focused on up-selling instead of correcting the issue. The car went in needing 4 new tires in January of 2019. It has since needed to be serviced for issues related twice one of which included the tire rods. We recommend that consumers stay away and instead use real mechanics not sales people looking to break, create or fabricate additional problems to make more money . Sorry but it's the honest truth . Would also like to add that when we retuned the same afternoon after picking up the vehicle because it was shaking uncontrollably , instead of being helped ( for a poorly done job) again someone tried to insisted that we needed an $800.00 tire rod job something that was never mentioned when the car was for service or when it was picked up. Now April my poor husband took the car to a mechanic and the same tire rod job was quoted to us for $180.00 . Food for thought people ! read more

RIP. OFF. I'm going to be fair in saying that I actually had a very serious issue in that I had a corroded connection between my radiator & transmission. Not good! My car barely made it in , I literally had nothing but lint in my pockets & maybe $100 in my account and I explain all of this to the techs not that they care but I'm trying to impress upon them that I am very poor, live check to check and have limited options myself; so as many options that they could give me would be appreciated. These rat bastards did not explain the issue to me only telling me that my transmission was shot and an entire new one was needed and can be priced at $4,000. Obviously, this was not happening as this was 1/4 of my purchase price, more than the current value and most importantly not available to me at all lol. Luckily, my cousin had a car thing a few weeks prior and gave me the number to Hio's in Teaneck, NJ. Using what must be supernatural mysticism techniques (because it was impossible according to Pep Boys) after taking it to Hio's they were able to repair just the corroded connection AND change my break pads for $1100. They did let me know I would need work done on it later because it was not a permanent fix but it would hold up for several months. I appreciated this because while I know it long term it was better to change the whole transmission it wasn't an option due to the cost at the time. Hio's at least gave me an alternate option that allowed me to get to work to at least be able to afford the temporary fix. I explicitly asked this of Pep Boys and instead they told me there were no other options and pushed me to finance the repair because they figured the car wouldn't make it out the shop and I had no choice. Unethical, greedy and scheming. These are the dudes that give repairmen a bad rep by taking advantage of people. In the future I'm 1) educating myself about my car more and 2) taking it to Hio's. read more

Worst Experience I ever had at any automotive buisness. I was quoted $350 plus tax to install struts. When I get there the price went to $450 because they did not quote an alignment, fine. Simple oil change: worst auto service experience of my life. Ugh. Disgusting. I don't trust they used the right oil, or changed the oil filter. He tried to charge me $55 for a simple oil change, a fee, I believe, based upon my age and female status. I protested, and it was reduced to $45. When I got home, I checked the oil measure, and it needed to have another quart added. I am going to a local drive-in oil change today, and get a fresh oil change, from a different company, that I can trust. Pep Boys Hackensack should be closed down. Worst experience of my life. Do not ever buy tires from this place!!! Went there in November for two tires. They told me I needed all four and so I trusted them to replace all four. They only showed me two of the tires they took off. They said they discarded the other two. One of their new tires blew in less than three months and two others had to be replaced last month. Now another tire had a blow out. How can tires with so few miles on them not even make it to a year????????????? I stopped patronizing them years ago, but could not remember why. Terrible customer service... I was referred to this location in Hackensack by pep boys representatives from Lodi, who told me they had the tire I needed for my car. I get to Hackensack and the tire that I was told they had in several different price ranges , was no where to be found. Not only that but once I finally agreed to purchase a tire that I didn't plan for, I have to wait while I see employees talking ,walking around.hanging out.Doing everything but providing me with service or at least decent respect instead of treating me as if I were not there. Mind you this is closing time, also I need to get to work soon and my tire just popped. I'm in a bit of a rush. I ask the pep boys employees how much longer the wait is as I explain I need to get to work. He rudely replies: "if you can't wait you should leave." So ofcourse I left. Do not go here! We had them put brand new tires on brand new rims that we had already bought elsewhere. We had all the materials needed for them. They were not even putting the tires and rims on the car. Just wanted them to put the tires on the rims and we were picking the completed tires back up when finished and installing them on our car ourselves. We paid a lot for these rims and tires when we had bought them. We got back home and we saw they put big nicks on 2 of the rims. They were brand new from a box when we brought them there. The staff are incompetent young guys who have poor work ethics. We ended up going back and asked to speak to a manager who was arrogant himself. He compensated us a little bit but definitely not what my rims were worth. Save your money and go elsewhere. read more

Had an appointment for a basic diagnostic test that takes 10 minutes at most. The first employee I spoke to said that I'd need a comprehensive check starting at $200, without looking at or asking any questions about the car. I reminded him that their website offers to do a free basic check first and that will tell us if more involved diagnostics are needed (which according to the website start at $40, not $200). They then told me to drop my car at one of the service bays. The mechanic there said it will take a couple of hours as he's very busy with other cars. This for a 10 minute job, and having an appointment. Don't waste your time. read more

After 30 minutes, I finally got someone to give me direction on where to find a product I was looking for. OK, chalk it off to it being a Sunday; not many employees around. Well, I get to the cashier only to be treated like dirt. The girl paid no attention to the fact I existed while I stood alone at the register. I had to be the one to ask "how much is it" as maybe she thought I could mind read? Then she took my money, handed back the change with not as much as a smile, glance, thank you, or any other acknowledgement. When another employee came by and saw the look on my face, he asked if everything is alright. I said that a "thank you" to the customer goes a long way, and wished that this employee would receive proper customer service training. The cashier smirked, said (sarcastically) she agreed, while she flipped her hair in my direction and turned herself away from me. I was immediately acknowledged by the young boy at the counter who rushed over to help me. He was pretty knowledgeable about how to quote me, and I was taken care of right away by Manzo.
