Waited 2 hours to get my battery changed. To make things worse, this store did not use a memory saver to save all my radio stations, bluetooth settings, and trip meters. What an absolute shit hole! Long story short. I go in today to buy some things and half the employees weren't wearing any masks. I asked one of them why he wasn't wearing a mask and his reply was "oh, I think I lost it" then went about his business. As I finished up with him three more workers walked by me with no masks on. One employ tried telling me that some of the workers were mechanics and that they didn't have to wear masks. That it was their managers fault in service for them not wearing masks. I stood there like what??? What does it matter what department they're in? They should have their masks on regardless of where they work. All this happened with a floor manager in sight. This place has no regard or respect for safety guidelines. I will never go there again. I don't know what his name was but he was an old bald guy with a little mario plumbers mustache. He was the nasty one who said he thinks he lost his mask and still sat there with no care in the world. I was referred from a friend that I should get my car checked and maintained at Pepboys so I decided to the nearest location which is the Hackensack, NJ location to get it maintained. The first service I received here was a OIL CHANGE and met Paul (He needs to be fired or undergo proper Etiquette training). He did not honor the coupon price and charged 20 dollars more. Then in the middle of the oil change, he informs me that my Break Fluid needs to be flushed and maintained which will cost an addition 100 dollars. I decided to bite the bullet and had it replaced. Soon later, my mechanic in CA informed me that he had changed it prior to my car being shipped to NJ. A few month later, I went back to the same location to get my oil changed ( I should have learned my lesson the first time). This time I was helped by a nicer employee who tried to get me the best deal. He indicated that he would give me $20 off if I got synthetic oil. So I did, However in the middle of the oil change, I was informed I needed to replace my break pads and my rotors. He indicated that he would charge me $808 for the Synthetic oil change, replacement of all 4 breaks and rotors, break fluid flush, and I would receive a 100 dollar mail and rebate. So I agreed, sounds like a good deal. However, they needed 1 part to be sent from another local Pep Boys and informed me that I can leave my car here overnight and someone tomorrow will help me. The guy then offered to drive me home. The next day I arrived. Paul comes to help me. He up-charges me to 840 dollars, removes the 20 dollar discount for synthetic oil, and indicates that I do not qualify for the 100 dollar mail and rebate because I received an employee discount. He gave me the option to either decline the 10% employee discount and receive the 100 dollar rebate or keep the employee discount and not qualify for the 100 dollar rebate. (Paul, at this point I realized you are not a good person and you take advantage of people). So I decided to take the 10% employee discount and MADE HIM TEACH ME how to register for the MAIL AND REBATE. 3 weeks later, I received my mail and rebate... I am giving this location 1 STAR because of PAUL. It seems like there has been a lot of complaints about this individual and to see PEPBOYS allowing an employee to take advantage of their customers is disgusting. read more

Employees are not even well qualified to do a proper simple job as a oil change. My engine oil was leaking for over a month I went there a couple of times, nobody able to fix it. I went to my local shop my mechanic was able to figure this leak due to the oil canister not set up properly in less than 30 minutes! I also asked for an estimate for break pad and router, I was advised a total of $1,080.00 with a discount included.I was able to find very good break pads, routers and labor included for $600.00 somewhere else!!! These are con artists that over charge for parts and labor.They will leave you there for hours & days on top of that.Last thing they will not even check your tire pressure while doing a oil change. I'll get right to the point. Should you come here for anything other than an emergency? As in, you got a flat tire right outside their doorstep. The answer is: NO!!!! Reasons are: 1) Extremely overpriced parts when they can be obtained for less elsewhere. 2) A group of people, not just one person, who work collectively to exploit people who seem less than knowledgeable, especially women! 3) Highly aggressive up-sell even when you've given signs of declining. Are these people socially unaware? 4) Long wait times and an uninviting environment: smelly tires right next to the waiting area! My brother and I went in for the buy three get one free tire deal. They told us it would be two hours but it took four. OK, stuff happens, I've seen worse. The next morning I go out to get the paper, one tire is flat so I put the spare on and brought it back. That took an hour. They gave me my keys, it's dark already, I see that they didn't put the hubcap on but I didn't check the work. A couple days later I put the hubcap on myself when I realized that it was my spare still on the car and the flat was still in the trunk! THEY DIDN'T TOUCH THE CAR! Except for moving it, making me wait an hour and then acting as if they fixed it. So, back I go. I raised a crapstorm and they fixed it. A new valve was defective. My new tires took six hours over three visits to get right. Never again. I hope corporate reads these Yelp reviews. read more

This is not our first time at this location and we will definitely choose another place next time. We had an appointment at 9am for one tire change, were told to pick up in an hour and a half but once we came back we saw the car still sitting at the same spot not touched whatsoever. We then waited 20 minutes to even get any information about the car and when we did the associate had no information on the car whatsoever as if it wasnt logged in . No point in trying to come to this location without clearing your whole day schedule because theres no telling when the service will be done . read more

Terrible service. Had an appointment still had to wait 30 minutes just for the car to go into the garage. We came for battery replacement. We were told that the battery warrantee was good for 2 years, however, the receipt only states that the warrantee is valid for one year. So of course we found out the truth only after the battery was installed and paid for. The least they could do was be honest about the length of the warrantee. read more

Yelp should really allow a zero star rating for places like this!!! I usually don't go here to have my car serviced but I needed an oil change, they were open so I tried it out. I was waiting for my car to be services when one of the mechanics came out to me and told me I definitely needed new front brakes and the rear ones needed to be replaced soon. This didn't make sense to me so I told him "no thanks". He proceeded to tell me how dangerous it is driving around with brakes like I had on my car. I asked to see them, he said I wasn't allowed in the work area. Again, I said no thanks. He walked away. Then the man sitting next to me in the waiting area said that they've been telling him to get new brakes for 3 years. The whole thing was seemed a little shady. Next, I went to pay for my car and the cashier again told me I need new brakes and again said it was very dangerous. So now, I'm a little concerned but still not convinced. Everything with the car seemed to be fine and I never noticed any braking issues. A few days later I brought it to my regular mechanic and asked him to check the brakes. He said I had over 50% left on my front pads and 80% left on my rear pads. So, thank to Pep Boys for trying to rip me off!!!! I don't know if these tires were hot off the press or what but it smelt like a straight up rubber shop and chemicals. I had to sit outside in the car it was so bad. Brakes were making noise so my husband brought them in to be looked at. Took over an hour to be checked and then they came back with a list of things that needed to be changed totaling over $800. He told them to have a nice day and left. Brought the car to my local mechanic who said we only needed the pads changed. Cost us a little over 200 for all and said 3/4 of the stuff that they said needed to be changed were fine. Also just had an inspection done at local dealership and they found nothing wrong with car so I would love to know just exactly what they were going to change for all that money when nothing wrong with car. Really need to take a look at your practices because ripping customers off for money is not a good one. read more

I asked if I should pull car up to the garage from the parking lot. I was told "no need". I went to car and couldn't lock it because I'd given my keys to tech. Now concerned- I go back to store and ask why I didn't get paperwork to confirm that I'd turned my keys over to tech. I told tech my car was open and I didn't get paperwork to verify the car was now in PepBoys possession and contents unprotected. Big big giant argument and I was told that "it wasn't Pepboys procedure to give paperwork" and that "it was my fault the car was open". "Mam - you come in here with an attitude and entitlement and expect me to change procedure for you". I say, "let me put it this way- would you leave your car open in a parking lot and turn your keys over to someone without getting some kind of receipt?" "Mam, I've explained our procedure to you 3x. I came in after the police ticketed me for a burnt out head light. I bought 2 new H7 bulbs for about $50. I walk to their service department & ask to install just the one that was burnt out since it was like 20 degrees out & I didnt have the tools. Then the "manager" himself tells me it would cost me about $175 because and I quote "sometimes the labor can be exhaustive." To change a bulb I could have done myself for free. I ran out & drove to AutoZone about 2 mins away. The guy Rich installed it for FREE in less than 10 minutes!! I tipped him really good since it was so cold out. He brought me into the area where the technicians were working on the cars and showed me exactly what the issue is. I really appreciate this kind of insight and a little lesson about my car as it was never explained in all the prior years bringing my car in for the same problem over and over again. It takes 2 hours for the engine oil change. Amazing. I made an appointment at 8:00 am for engine oil change . Honestly, I was late for 5 min. Still, Pepboys is advertising 30 minutes guaranteed if appointment is made. I handed over the key to sale rep at 8:15 am. At 9:00 am (45 minutes after), I asked for the status but I heard that they didn't even start working. Complained but I was told that it is mechanic's problem. OMG. At 9:30 am (1 hour 15 min after), I was told that they are still working on it. At 10:00 am (1 hour 45 min after), my car is back on the parking lot but sales rep didn't process and I was told that he is busy. Only one was working. Finally, I was able to get out the store at 10:15 am. It takes full 2 hours for the engine oil change. read more

I left my car there for repairs. I came back the next day for my ez-pass..... I went to the front desk to get my key and JACK told me it was unlocked and in my car...... I couldn't believe what I heard so I went back to check my car (which they parked near the street and NOT near the garage) and found that they had not locked my car at all. Passenger door was cracked open as well. Couldn't find my key so I went back to JACK and i nearly had a heart attack as he couldnt find it for 20 minutes. He finally finds my keys and makes no attempt to amends or to show any remorse. If you think its acceptable to tell a customer their car is sitting in parking lot unlocked with your key inside THEN GO SEE JACK. I dropped my 2011 Highlander off for an oil change and was charged $122 for synthetic oil. I was told I was given a coupon for $15 so the total was $107. No tire rotation was done. This was also the 3rd time I brought my car in for the tire sensor light going off. The front driver side tire has been losing pressure for months. The first time I brought it in they said they added air and it was ok. The second time I brought it in they said the sensor was slightly off and they charged me $23 for the repair of a flat. This last time they said it was rust on my rim causing the tire to lose pressure. My main issue is that I called to see if my car was ready and what the outcome was and I was placed on hold for over 10 minutes!!! When I hung up and called back Jonathan answered and said he wasn't the one who put me on hold the first time and he was going to have to put me on hold to find out what the status of my car was. He had an attitude and never apologized for the absolute lack of customer service I received on the previous call. He went on to say he couldn't answer for all the other times I went with the same issue because he had not worked on my car before. I asked if there is a log kept of my account and what service they complete on my car and he said, "yeah?" Seriously?! This is the absolute WORST place to bring your car!!! Not only are you going to over pay for services NOT EVEN RENDERED, you WILL NOT receive services INCLUDED and you will be treated like the village idiot. I have no choice but coming here because it's nearby my house. I have gone here twice to fix my tire that keeps loosing air. They would claim they fixed it but me air and let go my joly way till I get home and the my tire needs air again. After waiting several hours they should at least get the job done right. The 1st time they claimed it was nail I went back home woke up to flat tire towed it to them to then tell me my rim is bent. Yesterday I went for my tire loosing air after 2 hour wait they said they fixed it something was wrong with the valve as I'm going home it went flat couldn't turn around because they closed already. I have been to this pep boys years ago only to be disappointed in their lack of customer care and long wait times. I come back several years later hoping things have changed, yet I leave with the same disappointment once again. I was told it would take about 30 minutes for an oil change and tire rotation, which eventually ended up meaning over two hours. My wife was recently there to drop off her vehicle, she needed all 4 tires and Luis was kind enough to show her all the different tires Pepboys has and which tire is best for her based on how she drives and places she goes. Latest and greatest pending issue today. I didnt learn my lesson the first time to NEVER buy anything from pep boys or deal with them, I go purchase a AC compressor (after market) for my acura rdx April, 2019... My mechanic installed the compressor that turned out to be defective ALSO as it continued to drain my car battery while the car was turned off overnight. I called the pep boys I purchased it from (Hackensack NJ) and told them what happened. The manager told me to bring the defective one in and they will give me a replacement... Now may I remind you NO ONE told me that pep boys was FULLY aware that these after market AC compressors are giving issues to vechles like mine and are not working.... Well, my mechanic installs the 2nd replacement compressor and fills it with freon, as he has it running for a few minutes so the new freon can run thru the system.... My vehicle dash system says " check engine (with codes) and VSA system failure"!!!!!! The REFURBISHED AC COMPRESSOR has done some damage to my vehicle that it is effectingtthe turbo boost in my car that won't accelerate as it did only 3 hours prior to installing the compressor.... I'm awaiting on how much it's going to cost me to fix!!!! I have all paperwork on what has transpired. PEP BOYS IS GARBAGE... I took my 2003 Nissan Exterra in for new front brakes. I have changed the brakes in every car that I ever owned. The weather made me take it to a local pep boys. Little did they know I was as experienced as most f there mechanics. They threw me a coclemainy story that if there were bearing it would take twice as long. After they put it up on the lift and diagnosed the problem, they said I needed rotors and front pads. I thought ok, I just put new rotors and pads on my 1999 workhorse step van. I took me an hour and a half in my driveway and 185 dollars for the rotors and pads. MAYBE 350- 400. I was shocked when they gave me an estimate for 789.00 for front brakes and pads. I told them to please put the tires back on and I'll do it myself, you guys are crazy. I then proceeded to tell him that I have done all the brakes put all my cars for the past 30 years and that I am very familiar with the work and how long it takes. He then said give me a minute I'll see what I could do. After 10 or 15 minutes he came back and told me he would do it for 400. Almost half the original cost. If I didn't need breaks so bad, I would have told him to kiss my ass. I paid the 400. BEWARE OVERCHARGES they will treat you like you have asshole stamped to your forehead. read more

Worst store management! The main reason why I will never go back to this store is because some of the workers are rude and disrespectful. I'm sorry, but serve the customers first before you mack-it to coworkers. This happened both times I went to this store! I'm waiting at the parts counter because I have a question, but Mr. "pimp" Lacy was too busy hovering over a female coworker to even notice me. A male coworker who works in mechanic shop in the back, happened to walk by and noticed us waiting and shouted, "Hey Lacy, you got customers." Lacy paid no attention to us while continuing to ignore us. The same mechanic happened to walk by with tires in his hands 2 minutes later, stopped and said, "Is there something I could help you with?" Are you kidding me?
