Brake work. I had a great customer experience. Called in to see if they could check my brakes. They said sure and scheduled me an appointment the same day. They took my van in at the scheduled time and gave me an estimate on what it would cost. Jose explained the condition of my brakes and provided various options. They began work immediately. While I waited in-store they were busy with vehicles they were already working on along with walk-in customers. They treated all the customers with courtesy and professionalism. When I first entered the facility, Jay was on the phone with a customer. He completed the call and proceeded to walk to the garage. He did not acknowledge my presence until he returned from the garage. At which time he informed me I needed to obtain a diagnostic inspection on my car. After 2 and a half hours, I received the diagnostic inspection via text. Jay was at lunch. Johnny informed me he wouldn't touch by ticket because he and Jay had a difficult work relationship. Johnny began to assist two other customers before he got back to me. While this is going on, Johnny is on the phone with a manager discussing how the mechanics were owed 120 hours in back pay and they were threatening to leave. When Johnny gets off the phone, I inform him that everyone has to work with someone they don't get along with. Johnny decides to assist me. He gives me an estimate for repairs and tells me I will need to leave my car overnight because he has to obtain parts from the dealership. I tell him I am unable to leave the car and I will take the car directly to the dealership. I pay for the services. Johnny tells me they will bring my car around. Twenty minutes later, Johnny tells me all of the caution lights are on and they cannot get the lights off. I'm pissed because I didn't have any issues with the lights when I brought the car in. The District Manager appears while I am speaking with Johnny. They give me a refund for the diagnostic inspection . I inform them I am contacting corporate because of their poor service. The District Manager refuses to confirm his identity. I contact corporate and I am currently awaiting their response. FYI, there is also an issue with power steering now and the dealership refuses to touch the car. I will have to try a local mechanic. read more

Terrible service! Had my vehicle towed there and for three days no one acknowledged that it was receive. When I called to check the status, nothing was done because they were " short staffed". I called two days later and was on hold for an hour until I walked in. To only be told they would reach out in a few days because the person working on it wasn't there. On the 7th day it was completed to only break down two weeks later. They kept it for another 7 days after I had it towed back there. I had to call them for the diagnostic. They told me that the part they ordered was cracked and had to send it back. I finally got fed up and told them that I was having it towed elsewhere. This place sucks. Let's start with the fact that I had an 8am appointment for when they first opened, and I was literally the first person here, and it took them over 5 hours just for an oil change and a tire rotation. Then the technician damaged my oil filter housing while removing the oil filter and the manager Jose insisted I had to pay for it! They also tried to say it could've been done by some other shop but these people literally have done all my oil changes for the last couple of years, so nice try. Not only will I never bring my car to the Lansing Pep Boys again, but I'll be telling all friends, family, and social media to avoid this place like the plague. We had an appointment 11/20/25 to get new tires for our Mustang. My husband originally wanted Michelin tires and the gentleman on the phone said they had them. When we brought our car in they informed us they only had 3 but the Cooper tires were on sale and they had all four in stock. So reluctantly we went with the Cooper tires. When we picked up our car it started making a ticking noise and brought it to their attention. They removed the rear driver side tire and proceeded to "look" at it by spinning it back and forth and grabbing it and "shaking" it. We have put about 400 miles on the car and when we took it to a different shop they informed us the tires are not balanced. The quality of the tire installation looks like someone that doesn't know what they are doing. We have spent a lot of money on diagnosing and repairing our vehicle and now we have to pay someone else to remount and balance our tires. The "mechanic" was condescending and none of them seemed to care about the issues we were having. We will never return to this location and now we have a car we spent hundreds of dollars on new tires that we will have to spend hundreds more to assure the tires are installed correctly. read more

In October 2025, I took my vehicle to Pep Boys in Lansing, IL for brake service, including new brake rotors and related repairs. I paid over $1,000 for the work. Less than 24 hours after picking up my car, the engine began shutting down, which had never occurred before. When I contacted the shop, they advised me to bring the car back in and then charged me an additional diagnostic fee of over $100, only to tell me that the vehicle now required another $1,000+ in new repairs. This immediately raised red flags, as the issue began only after their service was performed. I strongly suspect that something was either tampered with, mishandled, or left improperly reassembled during the brake service. Feeling uneasy about their explanation and unwilling to pay another thousand dollars so soon after the first, I took my car to a different mechanic for a second opinion. The other mechanic discovered the issue was related to a sensor that appeared to have been affected during the prior service and a small fee to replace. This experience left me feeling deceived and financially taken advantage of. It appears Pep Boys may have engaged in negligent or deceptive repair practices--possibly creating or worsening problems to generate additional income from customers. The situation resulted in lost time, energy, and unnecessary fees paid. Potentially unethical business conduct, possible vehicle tampering, and unnecessary repair recommendations made to increase profit. This raises serious concerns about integrity and trust at this location. I strongly caution other consumers -- buyer beware. read more

Get familiar with the waiting room.. it's insane how it took 3 hours to change one little single tire!! There were 3 people in the waiting room! You're better off going to a random mechanic somewhere else.. the staff is friendly but it is insane how long they take! And the price is average. Not any cheaper than any other mechanic. One week after that, the vehicle started the misfire again and I had to take the vehicle back. After checking to find the issue, I was told that I had a substance build up on the plug in cylinder 1. They allegedly cleaned the plug and placed it back to resolve the issue. I then returned to the site again, and they stated that it was the same issue. Cleaned the plug and placed it back, 24hrs later the misfire started again at which time I took it to a Hyundai dealership and the issue was resolved. I was charged $900.53 for the service at the dealership who stated that the work done at pep boys was not done correctly. This is unacceptable as a service center that I actually like. The work "done" at the Lansing pepboys was never done, but I was charged for a service that I did not receive. Returning to the site multiple times for the same issue is an inconvenience, in addition I spent money for a service that was not done and had to spend over $800 on rentals to go to work. I don't like leaving negative reviews online , so I decided to reach out first. Please compensate me in form of a refund. No one should ever have to come to pepboys multiple times for the same issue, and be charged for services not rendered. The Hyundai dealership did the repairs that pepboys alleged to do. I stopped here around 7:40pm in a panic because my tire pressure light turned on and I found a piece of metal was in my back passenger tire. I so thankful that Pep Boys was still open (but was closing at 8pm). I showed Jose my tire and he said he would fix it. As I waited in the store, him and his colleague got to work. Initially we were pleased with the service. The company owner spent in past 4-5 years over $10k getting his car repaired. Most recently he spent $7,200 and began having issues when he left. Unfortunately business commitments kept him from bringing his suv in. When he did he was given an estimate of approximately $1700 and told the parts were on order. When I checked the parts hadn't been ordered because they were unsure if he wanted the work done. Nonetheless, The person was suppose to call me back with an update we've called twice and been promised a call back nothing. No worries the car was repaired in one day and there was no need to wait on parts. The customer service at this location sucks. You don't have to be dishonest and untruthful. You're not the only repair shop in the area and no one has to accept subpar service. Customer lost. Very disappointed. It doesn't matter who the person is whether they're a CEO or a blue collar worker, communication and respect is critical. This location lacks all of that. I've not shopped pep boys in nearly 30 years do to experiences with the brand in California, San Antonio, and New Orleans. There's a reason why they offer lifetime warranties in their parts, they're faulty - Anyway, I digress... Friend of mine asked that I follow him as he dropped off his vehicle for an oil change and when we walked in, and mentioned his vehicle, immediately, the young lady working the service desk immediately claims that she didn't realize he wanted a fully synthetic oil change, which I thought was odd because he only identified himself by his vehicle, not the type of service yet, which tells me she was FULLY AWARE but misquoted pricing on the phone and sure enough, she claims to have quoted a conventional oil change by phone, and now the old bait and switch. As she proceeded to argue the facts, her coworker jumped in to speak on her behalf and defend her misquote. But she's a grown person who can speak for herself, making both of them wrong for incessantly arguing and blaming a customer who drove 10 miles out of his way for an oil change. I told him when he mentioned Pep Boys for an oil change that they aren't to be trusted, and he learned the hard way. They attempted to recover by offering the service for the price quoted, but the trust has been broken, I recommenced he not do it, otherwise, he would've gotten conventional oil in a car requiring synthetic and he wouldn't have had a leg to stand on... Do not come here unless you have hours and hours to wait. Their time estimates are meaningless because there will always be another issue that arises. I was originally told that the total services for my car would take 2 hours at 1pm. I was also told that they would call me when my car was ready to be picked up. At 3:25 I was called, asking if I would like to replace the air filter from my car and was told that they were finishing up so replacing the filter would take 20-30 minutes longer. At 4:40, after not receiving any call saying that my car was taking longer than they expected, I came to see what the issue was. After about 15 minutes without anyone even addressing me, I come up to the front and ask what is wrong. I was assured that it would be 10-15 minutes longer at most. After another 20 minutes I am called to the front to pay my bill. Once I do I am left standing at the register with my receipt in hand for about 5 minutes until the front service worker asked me if I was given my keys. I reply that no one has given me my keys and then he goes to the back to check what is happening. After the front service worker returns, he informs me that they began working on my car AGAIN. Buyers beware!!! Went in to purchase tires and the transaction went smooth. they did their "inspection", and they failed to notice numerous issues with my vehicle. They then proceeded to install the new tires on a bent rim without notifying me. Months pass, and I bring the vehicle in for routine tire maintenance (Rotate and Balance). They proceed to rotate and balance the tires with the bent rim, during that visit I observed them almost drive a customers vehicle off the raised alignment lift, and not notify him as he was sitting waiting. I had to go to a different Pep Boys in my area after noticing extreme vibration coming from the vehicle. They rebalanced all 4 tires and found that they all were out of balance and noticed the bent rim. I contacted Pep Boys 800 number, and the store manager was contacted. He asked me to bring in my vehicle for his inspection. I brought the vehicle in and he drove it and said it was ok, but 2 tires were bad with less than 10K miles on 80K tires. He offered me only roadside on all the tires to reassure me they were acceptable. Bring the vehicle in for a slow leak in one of the tires (8K later), and am told there is no roadside and will have to pay for repair, after the service manager claimed to be giving me that. This is not the only time I have had to have their work redone. They have failed to properly tighten bolts on shock installations, failed to properly bleed air out of heater core after a coolant service, and have intentionally left things off estimates just to add them in once vehicle is apart. Beware!!! This is your life they have in your hands, and they don't care. They will send you on the road with unsafe repairs that they have performed. read more

Brought a vehicle in for 120 point inspection. Took them over 2 hours for what should have been a 45 minute task. Would not take the time to explain what they found wrong with the vehicle and did not find tripped ABS or SRS codes during the inspection. My wife dropped her vehicle off at this location due to a check engine light being on. They did take a look at her vehicle and recommended that she needed a crankshaft position sensor, valve cover gasket and spark plug replacement. After my wife called me and told me their recommendation, I immediately told her to tell them no as the valve cover gasket had just been replaced a month prior. I went up there after work to see these recommendations. Jose who was one of the managers, assisted me and I asked him to show me this valve cover gasket. He then proceeded to my wife vehicle stating that he never looked at it and tried to convince me that the valve cover gasket needed replacement but couldn't show me of no leaks around it. He then tried to show me some b.s. moisture on the cover of that same gasket and it was only due to the technician pulling out the mass air flow sensor which will have a little drip page due to air/moisture mix inside of the air filter housing at times. I told him that we declined the valve cover gasket and spark plug job and just wanted to have the crankshaft position sensor replaced. He said that the technician was gone for the day and we can bring it back the next day and he'll be in from 11-8. Next day come and my wife and I dropped the vehicle off at Pepboys around 6:00om so the work could be done. He said it would take about an hour so we waited . Now it's a hour and a half later and I called to find out the status of the vehicle and was told that the technician wasn't there. So I took my keys and left. The deceit that wasn't sold to us led them to not work in her vehicle at all causing my wife to kiss work and my daughter to miss her doctors appointment. Bad business and a bunch of liars with horrible management. Stay clear of unprofessional liars and dummies. Can't even lie to sell a job, no wonder their ratings are so low. 2 stars, need some from the sky. Take a trip up there and get some. read more

They called and told me my head light was out, which I already knew but told them not to change it because they wanted $40.00 and I could do it myself. Initial review: Avoid this place. Waited for hour an a half twice, just to get the estimate, which was wrong. They wanted to replace the whole control arm (300$) instead of ball joint. Flat out 450$ with labour out of my pocket. I go to my mechanic, fix the ball joint only, and than they go on a fairy tale story about the tires and another ball joint upcoming week. Trying to sell me their shitty house brand tires. Without wanting to do the alignment on the car... They work on commission and if they don't make money on you, they move on to the next sucker. So over the course of a week I've inspected my car now carefully than the guys who worked on it. They failed to replace the rear wiper when I asked for all wiping blades to be replaced and they did a tire rotation workout my approval. I only noticed this because the tire in the photo that shows the forehead fully exposed was in the back and now they switched those tires and put them in the front and I only noticed that because when I had a flat tire and got it patched up it was the rear driver side tire and I remember checking the tread when they fixed it. Apparently they said they have no record of doing a tire rotation when I went in but I assure you that they did and whoever did it didn't notate it which still doesn't make sense why they even rotated the tires to begin with. This is very highly unacceptable because now my tires are not being properly worn and I haven't had a chance to go in for them to look at this rear wiper blade that they failed to replace even though they did a complimentary vehicle inspection so I hope I get more than just a free wiper blade as the boss at the store offered I hope I get more then just that since this has put me through a lot of trouble because I am very busy and I hardly have a day to go in and the one day I had off they had to screw that up. read more

I am dissatisfied once again, the last time I went to Pep Boys a tech thought he scratched my car which was actually done in my jobs parking lot (pep boys in Homewood IL) instead of letting me know what happened he put a glob of paint on it. The reason I had to come back here this time is because the Lansing location put my tires on incorrectly..(isn't this one of your specialties) I went to the car wash and that's when I noticed the sticky paint. New occurrence, I had a flat & had my car towed overnight only to pick my car up and the from passenger fender was lifted away from the car, orange paint on it (my baby is black) and a dent on to he passenger side. I asked them to view the tape, they said the camera doesn't view the entire pkg lot. The asked the guy(Horatio)who took my payment to check on the manager (Jose) because he was gone for at least 20 minutes. This guy comes back never acknowledges me & grabs keys to go outside..my Dad was in his car waiting for me, calls me to say the guy is looking at the car.. hmmm that sounds fishy to me. I only took it here because when it was towed it was around midnight.. I will NEVER patronize them again. Their claims department calls me only to say they are not responsible.. read more

I am never coming back to this place again. All I wanted was an oil change. My boyfriend and I came in an hour before close. I let him go in because personally I don't know much about cars. Then again neither does my boyfriend. The man was extremely rude to my boyfriend. He kept talking down to him and acting like my boyfriend was expected to know everything. He told him that it was so close to their closing time for us to be expecting an oil change when we came an hour before close. To make matters so much worse not only was he rude and disrespectful he then asked if my boyfriend would give him a discount (because he noticed my boyfriend was wearing his work uniform) the next time he came to the place where my boyfriend works. Also the way we kept hearing him talk to customers on the phone was ridiculous. Not to mention just an oil change was over $60. I should have done it myself. I was hesitant to because I didn't know what kind of oil the dealership I had gotten it from used, and I didn't want to put the wrong oil in so my intention was to get it changed by an auto place the first time so I know for myself next time. I went to get a winter check up which included among other things a wiper check. The next day a wiper flies off my wind shield. i called and asked why this would happen after I paid to have things checked. Spoke to "Chris" and he couldn't have had a more apathetic attitude. "We just check to see if the rubber is ok. Don't do anything else with it so , sorry. Translation: not our problem. Mayby a wiper check should include making sure its not gonna fly off your car?? After all the time waiting there, I don't feel I got what I paid for and feel they are sneaky about what they advertise and what they actually do and don't do.
