I already shared this review on Google, but I'm putting it here too. The customer-facing associates are usually kind and helpful, and the location is good. Those are the ONLY good things I have to say. As for the bad... I can't speak for all Pep Boys, but this particular location is the embodiment of the stereotypical car shop that rips you off with unnecessary or unplanned repairs and expenses. I had two tires replaced last month, and both immediately started losing air as soon as I left the site. I had to go back two days later so they could fix it. A few days ago I was clumsy and had to replace another tire. Tire- singular. I needed ONE tire replaced. They decided to replace two and nobody could tell me why they replaced the extra one or which one they replaced. They also elected to not call me and inform me that my car was finished, so I was waiting two full days before I decided to call them to ask about it, and the person on the line seemed annoyed that I had left my car there that long. I went two days without my car, I would have liked a call, text, email, something! And maybe this is me being nitpicky, but BOTH time they replaced the tires, they took all the valve caps. I had to purchase more valve caps. Why do they need valve caps? Those are mine, please give them back. However, making an appointment just to sit in the waiting room for 3 hours and 50 minutes for an inspection is ridiculous. Terrible experience. From the moment I walked in, the customer service was trash. They had me waiting for a whole hour just to tell me they couldn't fix my car. Then when I left, they forgot to give me back my wheel lock key. On top of that, the mechanic had a rude attitude the entire time. Complete waste of time. I had an absolute terrible experience at Pepboys in Mechanicsburg this last weekend. On 11/16 I brought my truck in to get a new set of tires. I was asked if I wanted an alignment, but I discussed with the service lady that tires comes with a free 'inspection/balance check', so I went with 'tell me if I need one'. After waiting twice as long as as I was told it would take, they said I was all good to go. Two weeks ago, I discovered the inside of my front tires were worn bald, like scary to drive bald. I made an appointment for this last Saturday at 1, expecting them to fix the mistake. Right away on the phone, the guy tells me it is a suspension problem, but my truck just had its whole front end redone, and was inspected 3 days after I bought the new tires. I drop my truck off at my appointment time of 1pm on Saturday, 4/25, and I was told it would take a couple of hours. At 5:20 I call to check on my truck and was told I had no alignment at all so I need to pay for 2 new tires and an alignment, THAT WAS THERE JOB TO DO IN NOVEMBER! And then they told me my truck was next to get on the rack. It should be ready in an hour. So it has been there for 4 hours and 20 minutes, has yet to be looked at, but they 'know' what is wrong and quoted me $305 to fix their issues. I was told at 5:20, it would be ready in an hour. I get to cooking dinner and we eat, constantly next to my phone waiting for a call, nothing. It is now 7:30, and we just drive down to see what is going on, the shop is CLOSED, locked up with my truck INSIDE. No call, no heads up, it has been there since 1, and now I don't have it all night. I am absolutely furious!!! On Sunday morning I wait an hour after the shop opens, and call and ask about my truck. I was told they are working on it now, it should be another half an hour. I pick it up at 11. 22 hours after I dropped it off and $273, (they gave me a 10% discount on service fees) for two new tires and an alignment which I already bought 5 months ago and none of this should have happened. I have never had a worse experience with mechanics, or really any business. read more

Take your business literally anywhere else!! Apparently these idiots can't work a clock and calendar because when I arrived for my scheduled "wait with the vehicle" appointment they informed me they could not honor the appointment "because they were backed up." I understood and attempted to reschedule for the same time later in the week, at which point I was told they don't do that type of service during that time slot... so why did you confirm my appointment for that timeslot?! Why was it available to book on their website in the first place?! To top it all off, while this exchange was happening, another employee examined my car trying to find the issue he discussed with the customer in front of me (both my car and that customer's were the same make, but different models). If these morons can't keep scheduled appointments and can't tell the difference between one customer's vehicle and another, I'd be terrified to discover what kind of damage they'd do once they got the hood up!! After two hours of sitting in the squalid waiting area with no communication, I asked and was told they had overbooked, had two inspectors but one was busy, and I was next -after- the car that -would be- pulled in for its state inspection. I got my keys back and left. Made an appointment at the dealership. Paid more, but better communication, and their waiting room was not under construction (after many years apparently). Much easier appointment and looking at other reviews, you really get what you pay for. read more

My boyfriend took our car there yesterday with the plan that it would be inspected this morning at nine. It is over due for inspection by two years, but we never had any problems with the car. They had called him and gave him a diagnostic of everything it would need Around one. When he talked to them, they said it would be ready by five. He came at five. They let him drive off the lot with the car before he realized that the stickers on the car still said 2022. they charged him for inspection without giving him stickers so he went back and was obviously furious. We just paid over $800 for repairs. They pulled the car back to put the stickers on after saying that the lady that put the stickers on was not there. I was on the phone with him at this point and could hear everything that was going on. A woman came out and said that the car did not pass inspection. But they let him drive off the lot with it... they said it failed emissions. I heard them trying to explain and said that they could refund him or they could finish after he drove some miles. he said he just wanted the refund, but he was obviously furious and yelled we really feel we were ripped off. a man came out from the back and threatened his job because upon coming to get our car, he was dropping off his work truck. He said he would call his job and get him fired. This was directly after he said he wanted the refund he was offered. He said just give me the refund. read more

Had my inspection here the other day. I believe the shop is under construction, but it's pretty messy inside. Apart from the mechanics, it seemed like one man running the front desk. All said, my inspection was fast and the customer service was good! Just wish they would clean up the place to match the service I received. read more

I ordered tires on Amazon which came with them getting installed here. I also went ahead and got my overdue inspection done. The workers were very nice. The installation and inspection didn't take long. I didn't know Pep Boys was started by Navy veterans in the 1920s. They gave a military discount. The alignment was much cheaper than a couple other places quoted too. I had a good experience here and I would go back. read more

I did some business with them years ago when they were a retail store. The retail store is gone now, which is fine with me....most of their off the shelf stuff was junk. I was getting some tires installed and it took 2 hours...seems like about an hour too long. The facilities are disgusting...dust everywhere, dirty floors, a dirty coffee maker and nasty bathroom. The work area windows are covered with old cardboard and duct tape...I guess they don't want us to see the condition of the service bays. If you have to wait with kids...don't...this place is gross and stinks. This is 2022 and there is no reason to have to put up with the anymore. read more

My truck would not start. I had it towed to pep boys for what I thought was a battery issue. After evaluating the problem they determined that the electronics in the key was the issue. Took the other key over and used it. It started right up. Apparently Ford had issues with keys that year (2011). Would not hesitate to go there again. Thanks Pep Boys. read more

From out of town for my brothers death. Needed quick tire change because we had so much to do. Was assured on the phone they could do it quickly . Two hours later when they weren't done we were scoffed at by the girl at the desk when we told her we were promised a quick change. Like tell them anything to get them in here. If he told me 2.5 hours we would have gone elsewhere. She said it would be another 1/2 hour if there weren't any problems. The whole thing was a horrible experience. The waiting room is disgusting. Check the prices on Amazon or another site before you buy here. I needed to purchase a lightbulb for the headlight of my car. The lady working there brought me ones that were over my price range but I was thankful they had the part for my 2002 car. I did check on Amazon after purchasing and saw that the price at Pep Boys was almost double the price of Amazon! Because I still wanted to give them the business during this hard time, she offered me another set where she said the price would be 19.99. Nevertheless, I noticed after she rang me up the price was marked 39.99! I ended up returning everything. I felt that this is a common occurrence at this store in that the other staff just watched. No reaction of surprise or apology was offered, not that I'm looking for it, but show some concern, otherwise I'm gonna think that you purposefully tried to overcharge me! I scheduled an appointment on Saturday for an inspection. I got there on time they told me it might be a while because they only have one technician I said thats fine i can leave the car with you the whole day. I pass by around 5pm they said we are not going to be able to get to it but if you leave it here we can get to it by the morning. So I said ok no problem I left it there over night. I call them the next day around 1pm gave them a little more time they still haven't gotten to it so I told them do me a favor don't touch the car I'm going to pick it up they said ok. I go to pick it up the guy in front of me is dropping off his car for inspection they told him it will be 2 hrs meanwhile my car sat there for almost 2 days and they couldn't get it done. Worst customer service worst service period I don't recommend anyone to go there unless you plan on being without a car for a long time and if you don't mind being charged way over priced that's your place. read more

My van was vibrating badly so I came here and Robert B. Rotated my tires and said they were badly out of balance. He failed to notice a broken belt in the tire and large bulges. Drove the next town over and any longer I would have had two blow-outs. read more

I almost didn't go to this store b/c of the bad reviews, but I called and spoke with Bob who was very friendly and accommodating so I took a risk and went there to get 2 tires. First off, if you go there for car repair or tire repair and need a ride they will call you a Lyft to take you where you need to go, and to pick you up and Pep boys covers the cost!! Even better, I had located the tires online and it had a 10% sales price and a $50 rebate. The rebate wasn't coming up on their computer so they honored it instantly in the store. I have NEVER had such a wonderful experience at any company. To clarify, I do NOT work for this company or know anyone who does. I just moved here from Texas and was disappointed I couldn't find a Discount Tire b/c that's all I've known for 20+ years. Now, even if I had the choice b/w Discount Tire or Pep Boys, I would choose Pep Boys any day of the week. I did find out that the store just recently went through a change in management so if you read the bad reviews, take into account that they are working to do nothing but improve and by my experience, they have succeeded. read more

Totally lied to by staff of services performed. Booked an appointment for an oil change. Arrived at the store and I asked if the oil change includes the tire rotation. I was told yes. The tire rotation comes with a free rotation, which I needed more than the oil change. I waited in the customer area with a view of the service bays. I saw my vehicle the entire time it was in the bay. The tech never looked at my tires. When I was called to the desk to pay, I asked the female if my tires were rotated. She said yes. A blatant lie. Bad customer service and try to scam customers. When they had the buy 2 get 2 promo in Nov, I thought it was a great deal until I went to the store in Mechanicsburg, PA. The tires cost for 4 tires were $280 plus $121 installation fee and taxes. At first, the rep wouldn't want to tell me the out of the door price when I asked, gave me some BS excuse about they have to install first then the promo will kick in. I pressed, then she got the calculator out and told me about $650. She said there were shop fees, tires fees and other BS fees. The price for the tires were less than $300 but after all said and done would be over $600. Needless to say, I went to another tire place and them installed for $515 without any promo. Just make sure to ask for the total price if you ever go to pep boys. read more

Bad experience, over filled my car by 1.5 quarts, broke my oil dipstick, and after doing a very basic tire rotation, never checked the balance or the pressures, which should be adjusted, so I ended up at another garage to adjust and rotate them correctly, and also have to get the broken dipstick out and drain the excess oil... like seriously? read more

Living in a twilight zone when dealing with these guys!! WOW!! Just WOW! So, i take my truck there on a sat. morning and ask for a tire rotation, tire balance and oil change. the next day I pick it up and noticed they never rotated the tires when they said they did. They also could not find in their computer that i bought tires there either. I have to proof it on my end. these tires are exclusively pep boys. I can go on and on That is just the start of the story. I was told that it happens all the time where Pep Boys schedules appointments they know they can't do. The only thing they would offer me was an appointment the following day! Went to Advance Auto down the street where they were happy to have my business and installed it in under 20 minutes. 1/6 Pep B.- No I gave you a chance and you weren't reliable. I made an appointment to have 4 tires replaced. When I dropped the car off I was told it would be approximately 2 hours. I walked to some nearby stores to pass the time. I received a phone call about 45 minutes later telling me that the tires I ordered and were supposed to be in stock were not available. Would I like to have a different brand installed or reschedule my appointment. I opted to reschedule for the following week. My appointment time was 11:00. When I dropped off my car I was told they were working on a car and I would be next. After waiting a half hour in their waiting room, I decided to once again walk up to some nearby stores to pass the time. I returned at 12:30 and my car was still not touched. When I questioned how much longer it would be, I was told the car before me was taking much longer because of " oversized " tires. No apology for the delay of time, no offer to make things right. My husband Called pepboys about tires, we didn't need them put on just purchase. They had the cheapest 42.97. we asked if we could pay over the phone but he had us wait a minute came back and said he marked them for us. When my husband went the next day they sold him 59.99 tires after they acted like he was dumb. I called pepboys and talked to Richard k. He was really rude and disrespectful to me. He said that " he didn't know what I was getting off on by telling him" and I said I didn't think it was funny and he said" I do ma'am I think it's funny" as he laughed. I know nothing about cars or maintenance or service. However, I do know how to operate a vehicle, and turn it on. I transferred my plates to PA, and even though I have a brand new 2018 Toyota, the state wants an inspection. Called the local Pep Boys because they are usually really good about fitting appointments in. What I thought was going to be a simple task, turned into a 24 hour thing. The technician failed the car due to the tag LED bulbs not working. The advisor called to authorize a diagnosis since of the failure, and told us me that I should have changed the lights before I brought it in. The car is under warranty so I said I will take it to Toyota and get it fixed and come back. I was told that Toyota wouldn't be able to fit me in. However they did, and after arranging pick up and drop offs with a newborn, I finally picked up my car from Toyota. I found out that there was nothing wrong with my lights, and that they can pass the inspection. I had already paid Pepboys and the manager expressed that he would make an exception to not charging me again. Again. I arranged another pick up and drop off. The tech said, oh I guess I forgot to turn the car on & that's why the lights weren't working. All that mess, because of a very simple fix that anyone could have figured out. read more

I took my 95 Camaro in for an oil change. After the oil change was done they said that the oil and transmission fluid was leaking. They said that they could diagnose it. I waited another hour. They told me was the oil pan gasket and transmission fluid lines. They said it would be about a $900 job to fix everything. I told them I already had the oil pan gasket fixed. I finally took my car home and waited until the night I looked outside and realized my dome lights were on. I went outside and looked at the driver door and there's a wire hanging loose. I had to pull the fuse to get the lights to turn off. I don't know if it's something pepboys did or not. But it wasn't like that whenever I took it there. December 27,2017 my car had a coolant leak..It was the water pump.. On my car it is a big job..Pep boys installed the water pump..the timing belt with all of its components..completely flushed my cooling system and replaced my thermostat...i dropped it off @10 am and it was ready in a timely manner at 5 pm..that was great.. The thermostat that was put in was a 180..I notice that the car took too long to heat and warm up..i made an appointment with pep boys..they replaced the 180 thermostat with a 195..works great even with the sub zero temps..only 7-10 minutes heats my car..it`s awesome the way pep boys strives for customer satisfaction...the techs and customer service are very friendly / professional and accommodating.. I also purchased a labor warranty.. the service advisor sold me a ``LIMITED LIFETIME``labor warranty in writing for added peace of mind.. I definitely will be a returning customer to pep boys.. read more

I went in for an alignment and left with my steering wheel upside down to keep the car driving strait. Called them and turned around and had them redo it. I left with it being what I thought was good. 3 months later the alignment and steering became very loose. They did refund my money I believe. read more

If I could I'd give this place a - 2343 stars. I dropped my car off for a tire plug (which by the way is free for Pep Boys Reward members) at 10 AM......it wasn't ready until 8:30 PM. Needless to say they close at 8, and that's when they decided to START plugging the tire after we went off on the manager. In an effort to save the one customer that may still want to go here.....this happened on a Saturday. Regardless 12 hours to plug a tire which normally takes 30 mins or less is ridiculous. Scam artists. My overheating car was diagnosed as needing new head gaskets for $1800.00 by their "master technician". Had it towed to my dealer because they offer courtesy cars and figured repairs would take a couple of days. They checked it out - no coolant in the oil, no oil in the coolant and passed TWO pressure tests. Low coolant had put an air gap in the system, the repair quoted at Pep Boys was totally bogus. It is now 1,500 miles later and no problems. Either the "master technician" is incompetent or they tried to rip me off. read more
