They do a decent job but seem to do the bare minimum. I came in for an oil change and 4 days later my battery died. It was over 5 years old so it was time, but I doubt they checked it and so no one recommended I get a new one. Then a couple weeks later all of my tires were low in air, so again I doubt they checked. My oil was changed awfully fast on a Sunday so I think they just did what was needed and that's it. Toward the end of last summer, the air conditioning in my car began to blow out hot air. I took it to Pep Boys, and I was informed that I needed a new temperature sensor. That was fine. I did not use my air conditioner again since summer ended. When it began hot this year, I tried to use the air conditioner continued to blow out hot air. I made an appointment for a Monday, but when I got there, I was told that the air conditioning technician did not work on Mondays. I asked why someone didn't inform me of that, and the manager said that he tried to call me, but he did not. That was a lie. I brought it back today after making an appointment weeks in advance only to be told that it would be several hours before they could look at my car. I also informed Bob of the temperature sensor that they installed last year, only to be told that it had nothing to do with the air conditioning. I tried to explain to him that that is the reason I brought it in for repair last year. It did not seem to care about anything I had to say. I will never go back there, and Bob needs to learn about what good customer service means. read more

Don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining. My wife's tire got a slow leak from a small nail, was losing about 5psi every 2 days. I inspected the tire myself, first examination, I found nothing, so I spent 15 minutes taking a very close look at tread, inner wall and outer wall. I found a small puncture in the tread, which was something that could easily be patched from the inside. My wife took the car to Pep Boys in White Marsh, where they said they found no leak, but air bubbles were coming from between the rim and sidewall and they would put some sort of adhesive between the two. My wife called me, so I could tell the mechanic exactly where the leak was, he didn't seem to care what I had to say, and only said he would take another look. On the way home, the low tire pressure warning came on. The tire was now losing 5psi every 12 hours, not every 2 days. Brought the car back the next day, now they say they never took the tire off the rim the day before, took the tire off the rim that day, and found a large chuck of tire missing. Google review has picture of the tire after it was remounted, this chuck is very obvious. More obvious is that they caused this damage. I work on cars myself, I know lots of master mechanics, they all said this was likely from the tire machine bead breaker. When I confronted Pep Boys, they said they did not do it. This car was just serviced by the dealer, I inspected that tire myself, yet they doubled down on their lie, and said the steel belt was rusted; therefore, it wasn't them. There is no rust on the steel belt, the rubber is not oxidized, the tire leaked worse after they returned it to us from the first visit. I don't know what is worse, them lying to me, them putting a damaged sidewall tire back on my vehicle (since probably damaged that first visit) which could have been very dangerous for my wife, or the fact that the manager told us even if they did cause the damage to the tire, they are not responsible. Note, my wife signed no piece of paper accepting a waiver of liability. Thanks Pep Boys, we will now be spending hundreds on 2 new tires, NOT from your establishment. PEP BOYS CORPORATE, if you're reading this, I recommend you send a quality assessment team to this store, as I personally like buying parts from Pep Boys, and I think this store is tarnishing your name. read more

Great customer service and a nice waiting area. The cashier was able to look up the right windshield wiper for my car, I got it for a low price of $10, and someone even installed it for me. Much better deal than I would have gotten at AAA where I was quoted $37! I also found some neat items on the clearance table. As I walked to my car to go to work, I noticed that the left rear tire was reeeeeally close to the ground... after filling it with air and hearing the air coming back out of the tire, some serious inspection found that I had a nail in my tire :( I went to Pep Boys thinking it would be a quick 20 minute in and out fix. It took about 1.5 hours (they quoted me 2 hours... which is normally longer than anticipated for patching a tire), but only because there were people that were there ahead of me. Once my car actually got into the shop, it didn't take long at all. The staff there were all friendly. They have a customer waiting room, which has chairs and a vending machine that didn't do much for me, BUT they have free wifi! As I was checking out, they notified me that if you become a Pep Boys Rewards Member, I could have my tire repaired for FREE! I signed up there, but it didn't apply. Hilarious! They advertise a Penzoil oil change on sale from $74.99 to $54.99 but it doesn't include an oil filter or shop fees. So I am quoted $20 higher than the advertised price then $20 comes off. If you're adding it up they run the price up to $98 then graciously discount the service to $78. Hmmmm, that's more than the regular price for the service. I can go to the dealership for that price. I returned to Pep Boys after a few years of boycott due to this location's poor service. When I walked in, the store appeared to be nicer. I got a quote from a service advisor for tires. This gentleman didn't have much personality but was helpful. Was quoted about 90 minutes for install so I gladly accepted and went to the waiting area. I noticed that the technicians moved kinda slow and appeared to be joking around too much. My vehicle took about 105 minutes but could of easily been half that if the technician didn't laugh and joke around the entire time. But, he did do a good job and didn't damage my vehicle like the last one did during my visit years ago. Waiting area has comfortable sitting area with wifi and area with coffee and water. Nice big tv that just so happened to have annoying CNN playing. Overall satisfied with Pep Boys minus 1 gentleman that worked there. I think his name might of been Steve. Young guy with short hair. I watched as he dealt with several customers and just acted like a complete... you know what. Even heard him mumble a profanity in regards to a customer that recently walked away. Buyer beware! My wife and I went there to have her back brake rotors and pads replaced on her 2012 Chevy Tahoe. We met with the manager Ray who had the car checked and provided us with a quote that was ridiculous. It was $610. The problem is they were billing us 4times the rate for parts if they were purchased in their store . On top of that they charged 2:20 hours for labor and this job is 1 hr labor tops. Ordinarily I would let this go and not comment but this store also sold my wife a mismatched tire for her car a coupe of years ago as they claimed her tire was discontinued . Went in because I had a flat tire to be replaced but my tires were in such bad shape he ended up walking me through a set of four new tires which I didn't really mind doing because I knew they were needed. Horrible experience. If I could, I would give this place ZERO stars. I went in at 9am to get ONE head light fixed and an hour passes by and it's still not finished. Then I see my car being lifted up and being worked on, so I grab the manager to see what is going on because I'm waiting 2 hours now. Manager comes back and I find out that the employees got my car mixed up with another car and my car was getting an oil changed instead of getting one light changed. By this time 3 hours have passed. I waited THREE hours for ONE headlight to get changed. I wasn't charged for the oil change but charged $30 for a 3 hour headlight change. Never coming back here. They need to be more organized and communicate with each other. read more

I am giving this place 2 stars because of the guy behind the counter. He was very friendly and helpful. The quality of workmanship is the issue here. I brought my girl's Nissan Pathfinder to this location with an intermittent power steering issue. They charged me around $50 to do a bit of poking around for a few hours and called me saying it was a "RACK AND PINION" concern and would cost $1400 to fix. Naturally, I picked the car up and never scheduled the repairs because I could smell a rat. I found out the next day that my boss has a auto mechanic shop owner for a cousin! I brought the car to him and I ended up with the truth. Before I left for his shop I figured I would pop the hood and see if I had missed anything. To my amazement the Pep Boys "mechanic" had left the cap to my power steering fluid container off and sitting on the battery. He had also left his instruction print out in my engine bay!! Anyway, once I got to to the other shop he told me that there was a bit of debris around the moving parts and he took car of it. He also fixed my battery terminals and checked on a few other things. The car is working great now and the total cost was $120!! This is why you NEVER take your car to a chain like Pep Boys. They employ bottom level mechanics and will try to milk you for all you are worth. Always go to the mom and pop mechanics... They won't screw you because they NEED your repeat business and your good reviews. I took my car to Dublin Service Center in Darlington, Maryland and I always will now. One employee was helpful getting my part in a few minutes however, the rest of the bunch left me abandoned waiting to pay for my parts for more then 10 minutes. Jennifer hooked me up with a pro star battery, in and out less than 30 minutes. The mechanic was a seasoned vet of 30 years and all about work. They were definitely on the job. I have just had enough of pep boys honestly. Every single time I go into this location, they tell me everything that "needs" to be fixed and "finds" other problems. Then, things are ridiculously overpriced... And they want to run unnecessary tests (and so many other problems). They told me all three brake lights were out. Now this is what put me at my LIMIT! ALL my brake lights were working on the way to pep boys (which is a 10 min drive, if that) because a family member followed me. And they were working the night previous as well. So I find it hard to believe that they just all the sudden do NOT work when the car went into their care. They tried to tell me that it could have been anything from a bump to moving around when they drove it around the corner and into the shop (which admits it happened in their care). The woman at the front was completely unprofessional on the phone. I have been a loyal customer for a while, but enough is enough. I was a loyal customer but now I have taken my business elsewhere.
