Just to be straightforward: Do not go here, and do not let anyone you know go here. The Pep Boys account will comment offering to reach out and then do absolutely nothing. You know where to find me if you want to make things right. I rarely write reviews, but people need to be warned about this business. Story time below if you are interested. At first, it seemed like a good experience. I called on Friday and spoke with Bernie, who quickly gave me a quote for a little over $1,300 out the door for the four tires I needed. He set me up with an appointment to drop my truck off Monday for installation. Monday morning, I dropped off my truck and was told the tires would be done and installed in just a few hours. Around noon, I called to follow up and spoke with a different employee who said my truck was ready to be picked up but two TPMS sensors weren't working. I told the shady salesman on the phone that all four sensors were working fine when I dropped the truck off and declined the $200+ service he tried to sell me. He claimed that in his "30 years of experience, this happens all the time." I decided to trust common sense instead. When I arrived to pick up my truck, I was greeted by that same shady salesman with 30 years of experience sitting behind a counter stealing from people. He tried to charge me nearly $1,700 even after a 10% first responder discount. I told him that was incorrect and not the price I had been quoted. After some discussion and pushing back, Bernie finally came over and admitted that the promotion he had quoted me on Friday (and scheduled the appointment for) had expired on Sunday. After more back-and-forth and explaining how unhappy I was with their tactics, they finally adjusted the bill back to the original quote. Once the price issue was resolved, I raised my concern about the TPMS system failing while the truck was in their possession. Also, it didn't seem fair to charge me $9.99 for a "TPMS relearn" when the sensors weren't working. The salesman came back with his infinite wisdom, drew four squares on a piece of paper, and rambled about his 30 years of experience, claiming that removing a tire from the vehicle "kills" the TPMS sensor. By this point, I was so frustrated that I decided it wasn't worth arguing anymore and just paid the bill. After paying, I went to get my truck with the brand new tires I should have been excited about. As I walked across the parking lot, I saw my wheels and tires completely smothered in white grease, looking like a 3-year-old had finger-painted them at daycare. I was already fed up, so I got in the truck to leave. My dash was lit up like a Christmas tree with TPMS warnings. I hit the reset button using my years of experience with a YouTube search... and it worked. Now it was reading correctly, and I could see they had severely over-inflated all four tires. The "relearn" they charged me for clearly hadn't been done. I thought I was finally ready to go home, but I decided to check that the professionals at Pep Boys had put my spare tire back in its carrier. Of course not. They had just lazily tossed it in the bed of my truck. In summary: Don't go here. They'll quote you one price to get you in the door, try to upsell you things you don't need with their "30 years of countertop experience," and do absolutely everything incorrectly and sloppily. read more

i needed to replace 2 tires, called to schedule an appointment and was told by ashley to just come on in we're open til 8. when i arrived, ashley informed me that he sold the size i needed around 3, i called around 1. i requested an appointment and was told to just come back the next day and try again. i asked for an appointment for saturday and was again told to just come in. i wasted gas after driving an hour to get there only to be told to just come back and try again the next day. at tis point i will not do business there anymore, especially not when ashley is on duty read more

I went to Pep Boys and had an appointment. I ordered 4 tires and an alignment. Writing this review at the ridiculous 2 1/2 hour mark. still no car. When I first arrived it took 10 minutes to look at the computer and find my appointment. The sales are fair but the time is over the top. There was only two people waiting when I arrived. I have been alone for at least the past hour. Pep Boys is a never again for me as I can get Cooper Tires at almost any tire service. I give Pep boys one star for just having Tires on sale for a price equal to three other local tire shops! It took three hours . The job was well done. They explained that there was illness and they were short. Three hours is still a bit much for tires. They compensated me and discounted some of the work so I raised it to 3 stars. Complete waste of time and money. I came in for a wheel sensor to get replaced. They charge me around $200 dollars to diagnose my vehicle and completely give up on working on my car. I told them what was wrong with it to begin with and the "master" tech was completely incompetent, claiming I had computer issues and that I needed to take it to the dealership, due to additional lights coming on my dashboard. A 5 second google search shows that this is common to occur with a bad wheel speed sensor. I ended up losing $200, and replacing the wheel speed sensor myself. My car is fine by the way, nothing he said was true. As soon as the sensor was replaced all the lights off the dash went away. Thanks for nothing. read more

This purchase started online and as the saying goes, you get what you pay for, in this case poor service. Tires were purchased online on a Sunday, the tires were buy 2 get 2 free, hard deal to pass up right? I set the appointment for Tuesday morning to allow the shop to get the tires, I expected the tires not to be there, it's near impossible to get a set or more of every style tire in every size available at every store, no problem Tuesday morning I arrive and this is where the experience goes downhill. I stated who i was, why I was there and that I had an appointment. There was no record of my appointment, great I thought guess I'm not getting tires today. Christopher looks up my order and says, oh we don't have these tires. He checked the system and they were sent to the West Ashley store. I confirmed my appointment with him and showed the email confirmation that I was in the right place. The West Ashley store was called, they confirmed they had the tires and I left the car. Christopher said they would be the tires, it was their mistake and they would correct. A few hours later I'm called and told the vehicle is ready. Here's where the too good to be true comes into play. My original price out the door with installation, taxes, etc was just under $600 that is confirmed in my email. Christopher comes back with a $740 bill. We start the back and forth to see why to difference. I was being charged more for the tires, but 3 get 1 instead of buy 2 get 2. The excuse used was they had to go get the tires from the other store and the rate was different. Guess why Chris, not my fault. I was then charged for tpms sensor rebuild kits that were part of the installation quote from online, I showed the email for a third time and Christopher argues that was not correct, those are not included even though the Pep Boys email I'm presenting CLEARLY shows it does. Besides the poor customer service experience the tires have been ok. They handle well at highway speeds so we're balanced correctly This was my one and done experience for service on my vehicle. I'll pay more elsewhere knowing the experience will be better by staff that have the customer first, not the daily revenue that is posted on the dry erase board in the service department. Royal Purple, Pennzoil (and WOLF -- as elusive as in life as in stores and imilarly as difficult to find) these were names I grew up with and poured with confidence, they were 1/2 the price then. With the advent if direct injection and higher compression motors, oil viscosities thermal breakdown (on the molecules) occur at a much higher rate. Enter synthetics and blends, but I still rock a "groovy ride, groooovy", (Brady Bunch urnlbal assault station wagon, minus the Country Edition wood panel siding. I want those so freakin bad -- words can not express. 50% off on polishes and chamois and stuff is never use -- what a colossal waste of greenbacks, but SAE 5W-30 SHELL Formula motor oil was a steal with the discount, so I bought enough for 4 DIY oil changes. PEAK came late into the game from this gear heads perspective, gut great stuff though -- tried amd true, but expensive. Prestone however has been my coolant forever and has a yellow container with pretty pointed black letters and begins with the letter P like my Pennzoil, which keeps my fluid shopping as easy as 123. read more

Got charged 65 dollars for them gust putting the obd scanner to say bad plugs , battery, and cam sensor. Thay never just check the oil was low so the engine protect was shutting down the car , 20 dollars so if I could I would not even do a star. read more

I just want to start by saying I had some car issues and brought it in. It took longer for them to fix the issue than expected. Once I got my car back everything was great. Fast forward 2 months after taking it in the same situation happened. I went back to them and their customer service (Johnny) was great they had my car towed to them and fixed it at no cost. They were extremely informative on what was going on and 10 out of 10 for their amazing customer service. Thanks guys for being honest mechanics. Wow the reviews for this location seem all over the place! I've used this location several times over the years and have learned the following: 1) Go in person and plan to wait. Do not try to do this online or on the phone. Yes, they are busy, but they are nice and transparent. They will tell you the realistic wait time and there is a sparse waiting room with chairs (located in the old parts retail part of the store). Bring a book, download some videos, or have friend pick you up. 2) Their technicians seem honest/friendly/knowledgeable. If you are nice to them, they will be nice to you. It is that simple. 3) They have honored their tire warranties for me thus far. I've had some tired that needed plugs or replacement. I did not have trouble getting them to locate and honor my records in their system. Each time things have been taken care of without a lot of hassle other than a bit of a wait. read more

My wife took our vehicle to have the brakes assessed when we began to hear a hissing every time we pressed on the pedal. We learned online that usually indicates a failing brake booster. Pep Boys confirmed that, but assured us the brake booster was not a complete necessity and did not need to be changed out immediately. They took all four tires off the vehicle to inspect it then let my wife wait for over an hour before putting them back, despite the fact the staff could be observed doing nothing in the meantime. Then, when she got the vehicle back, the brakes had to be absolutely mashed to make them effective, which was not the case before taking it in to Pep Boys. She took it just to have the brakes evaluated before a potential catastrophic failure. Now it seems like we're even closer to that failure after being told not to worry about it. Definitely taking it somewhere else immediately. At least the evaluation was free. But then again, you get what you pay for. UPDATE: @PepBoys, too little too late. Called manager of this branch to explain the situation and received a very insincere "we'll take a look at it again response," to include him saying the booster had likely failed since we left the shop. Did not acknowledge my concern that it occurred in- house at all. I can't believe that the guy who pulled it out of the bay could not have told the difference. Seeing as how we need our brakes to work and it is our only vehicle we took it somewhere else where it was fixed immediately and professionally. read more

If could give -0 stars I would. Very rude and unprofessional. I spent a whole entire work shift there waiting for an alignment and oil change. Finally after my car was in the back for over a hour they decided to let me know they had 1 mechanic and nothing was done on my vehicle. Misty just informed me less than 5 mins before he was in the back "working on it" FLAT OUT LIE. The bathroom is like a portal potty that has NEVER been cleaned NO SOAP NO PAPERTOWEL so they getting in and out of our cars and touching our keys and steering wheels with all kind of bodily fluids on they hands. If you like your time wasted or need your faith tested or even want to see if you still got it this is the place for you. I DO NOT RECOMMEND. Pep Boys don't respond with that weak ass automatic message with that fake apology, y'all rude and only want the money you didn't apologize then so don't now under this review. If I could give no stars I would! I have never been treated so poorly by a business that have so many other competitors in town. I ordered tires from Amazon and paid to have them installed by Pep Boys, I set up an appointment and verified the day before of the tire delivery and appointment time. I arrived for my appointment and immediately knew this was the wrong place for my business. I was not greeted warmly, in fact it was as if I was intruding. Dawn the "service advisor" was immediately rude to me, I explained to her that I had tires shipped there by amazon she proceeds to tell me they are not there. I showed her that they were delivered, she could not find them. They were next to the door with my name on them. She told me they were tires for a BMW, wrong they were the tires I ordered for a Tahoe. Next, Dawn tells me I have to pay to have them installed. I show her my receipt again where I had already paid for the installation. Another gentleman working there could see she had an attitude and I was losing my patience and took over. I leave my car to get the tires installed, I receive a call that they don't have the pressure valves in stock and don't know when they will have them...fine. Just put the tires on. About an hour later I received another call that one of the tires is the wrong tire (frustrating but not their fault). They decided to put 3 tires on. I go back to pick up my car, Dawn stares at me through the window for 7 minutes before she comes in to help me. Rudely, she asks if she can help me? I tell her my name and that I am there to pick up my car. She types it in the computer and says she has no (my last name) at this point I am beyond frustrated with her attitude, the gentleman from earlier walks up again and she says "she says her name is ____" "we don't have nobody in here with that name" , the guys tells her it's an internet sale and they are in ...she turns and walks away. I get my keys and ask for my wrong size tire and they roll the tire to me instead of putting it in my car for me. Fast forward to getting the new tire in...my husband calls to make an appointment, no problem. He goes in yesterday for the installation of one tire at 3pm(Thursday) is told they have two techs and much bigger jobs to do. They can't put it on even with an appointment and the service HAS ALREADY BEEN PAID FOR. The "service advisor" Johnny tells him maybe Sunday they can do it. Maybe... I call back and confirm this is the case and Johnny tells me the same that they have much bigger jobs to do than one tire, again this service has already been paid for. He says yes he does not know if even Sunday will work they only have one tech scheduled. I picked up my tire this morning and will be having it installed elsewhere! Amazon will be notified of this horrible customer service and I hope they will remove them as a preferred vendor. WOW! Such a great experience - Mike, Chris, and their team were such a help. I had gotten a flat tire all the way in Akin (200 miles away) and rode on a spare at midnight all the way to Charleston. Originally I called the Pep Boys in West Ashley to see if they had my tire and to say the least had a terrible experience. Next I proceeded to call this store and they really turned my experience around. The hospitality and hard work does not go unnoticed. I really appreciate you guys helping me in my time of need. I took my car here to get the lifetime front end alignment. The man told me i needed some kind of plate due to my alignment be so off. It was about$60.00. I told him I would get that later and to just do the alignment. I took the car elsewhere and they did another alignment and didnt say I needed a plate. Last night one of the fuses in my 74 Bug broke and it wouldn't start without it. I went to 3 different places before ending up at Pep Boys. I was immediately greeted when I walked in and asked what I needed help with. I told her I needed the fuse and showed her which one. She knew right where to find it and even knew that they carried this particular fuse. As it was now around 7:30 pm and I hadn't been home yet from leaving at 7:30 am for work I was not the most excited person. However I did not let it come through my attitude I'm sure it was sensed. This woman who helped me was very nice, she made jokes, and made me feel better about the situation I was in. I wish I would've got her name to give her a shout out. But she was awesome! Although this Pep Boys on Rivers was out of stock of the fuse she looked up the W.A. Store say they had 1 pack left and called over there for them to hold it for me. 2+ hours to get an oil change with only one person ahead of me... 2 stars since the guy was nice and asked me if I had time to wait. It's like a 15 minute process; I expected an hour max for a "long" wait time. I will admit it was one of the cheapest oil changes I've ever gotten coming in around $33 with online coupon, but I think I'll stick with my favorite local shop down the street (which was closed today) from now on. Appointments do not exist. The online appointment system appears not to be linked with local scheduling bc there is no scheduling. I made an appt online for 9am. I was first in line at 9am. At 10:10am I notice my car hasn't been looked at. I complain and managers says he's working on cars from yesterday and he'll try to work me in. This is news to me. I had told him I had an appointment and I wasn't warned of his delay. Another thing that isn't connected is the pricing. Did not match what they showed online I had to look it up and the manger got it close to that price. UPDATE: I am giving three stars bc the manager knocked off $50. That goes a long way for me. I will consider using them in the future bc after upsetting me they recovered and showed me they valued my time. read more

This is one of the best automotive supply stores in Charleston. Most (not all) other comparable businesses in this area are staffed by high school dropouts who obviously don't want to be there and spend most of their time chatting with buddies instead of providing customer service; not so at this Pep Boys. The staff here is friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable - everything you need at an auto parts store. I went in looking for something very particular and the person who greeted me at the door knew exactly where to find it. He introduced himself by name, shook my hand, and said that if I needed any more assistance to just ask. Made me feel like I was back home in Texas where you expect a lot more from customer service types. Very impressed and I will be back. read more

Their prices are high compared to other similar companies, even when I joined the Pep Boy club. Whenever they scan my member card, I never seem to get any type of discount. Essentially, the card is worthless to me. They do have oil and filers, etc...and it is located nearby. I don't use their repair dept. I'd rather take mine to the dealership. read more

The price on tires was a little higher, but they can't help that part. When I called to ask about tires, Amanda was the one who was able to help me. She was super helpful in getting tires ordered & scheduling was done fast. When I got to Pep Boys, Joey (or George?) was able to help me get my car ready for them to change the tires & gave me an estimate. Although it took about an hour longer than they had originally told me, I trust that they did a good job-they even put my spare back for me! I gave 3 stars ONLY because after a horrible experience, Johnny ( I think that was his name) was very helpful in trying to rectify the situation. I ordered/paid for 4 new tires online and made an appointment to have them installed. My normal mechanic does not take appointments and due to time restrictions I assumed it would be best to make an appointment to reduce my waiting time. I arrive for my 10am appointment for them to tell me it would be about 1 1/2 hours before they even take my car back because they still had cars to work on from the previous day. Finally after a hour and 20 min they inform me that the tires I ordered were the incorrect size, even though that's what size their website suggested based on my cars make and model. Luckily they have the correct tires in stock but I'm told they will be a different price. Now, here is the mind blowing part. When I ask what the difference will be so I know what to expect, this man honestly tells me that there is no way for him to tell me the price before hand but "it should be around the same price". HOW CAN YOU NOT TELL SOMEONE THE PRICE OF TIRES BEFORE BEING INSTALLED!!!! That blew my mind. I still can't wrap my head around it. Finally 2 1/2 hours later, it's finally time to pay. What they neglected to tell me, was that my online payment could not go towards the different tires. Now I have a $400 charge still pending on my card, and I have to come up with another $400+ to pay for the service. Seeing as how I paid for the tires online, I was not prepared to pay an additional 400 out of pocket. Not to mention how embarrassing that was. This is an unacceptable and not how a business should be ran. While I do appreciate Johnny I will NEVER go to pep boys again. No wonder the company isn't doing too well. **EDIT: After my tire installation they tried to CHARGE me for 1 year roadside assistance which I declined. After reviewing my receipt, I learn that it is included for FREE with the purchase of my tires. Yet another auto shop trying to take advantage of a female. Typical.
