Shady shady shady business practices. Left my car there early morning hours with the understanding they would reach out to SilverRock to get my repairs possibly covered. Now I might look like a young single mother that's not hip to the shit, but I actually knew exactly what needed to be repaired and that it WOULD be covered under my warranty. I get a call late in the day from a female associate saying SilverRock would not cover the repair. No further explanation. why would u wait till damn near closing to notify me? Then came the pressure to pay out of pocket. My good sis could NOT provide me a claim number which prompted me to call the warranty provider myself. They had no record Pep boys ever reached out or filed a claim LMAO how embarrassing when I showed up in person to get the details. We got all that shit straighten out needless to say. They were very humble and moved expeditiously to get me scheduled the next day. My repairs were made and seem to be holding up over a month later. read more

This place is always incredibly slow with servicing your car. Even when you have an appointment, I still ended up waiting over two hours before my car was ready and all I got was an oil change. The woman who works the desk is very sweet and checks in with updates so it's not her fault, but I wouldn't recommend getting your car serviced here. read more

It had been over two decades since I last visited this shop. Last time I was there I wanted a routine service job but they insisted they had to do a whole lot of extra stuff, so I left. For the next twenty plus years, I'd been a regular customer of an inner-city repair shop that consistently did great work with few unpleasant surprises, even though this Pep Boys was only five minutes away. However, this time I decided to call them re a water pump repair on our old Jeep, rather than having to wait two weeks before the job could be done. And since their initial job estimate of $763.07 was only $28 higher than shown in Kelly Blue Book's "fair repair range" ($643-$735 - for guidance on your vehicle, go to kbb.com) I gave them the go ahead to complete the job. Well - a little later, came a call from them, in which I was told their "master mechanic" recommended replacing the radiator cap ($15.00 - one can be had from Auto Zone for about half that) and the thermostat (I didn't dare ask the price). I declined the offer. Then came another call. The "master mechanic" had discovered a slit in the radiator hose (guess I missed that) and that'd have to be replaced, but (lucky for me) the labor cost would be less, so the new total would only be $902.42... an increase of $139.35 - to replace a radiator hose?! When I objected to the price, Ch--s offered to give me a 10% discount which ultimately brought the final total to something more within reason. But the experience alone had already convinced me that it'd probably be two MORE decades before I'd be visiting Pep Boys again, and to add insult, it turned out we weren't done yet. My wife wrote the check for the bill as she's done countless times before at the other shop (I have an 800 plus credit score, but I don't physically write checks nor carry cash - I use cards and an online bill payment service) and she's NEVER had a problem doing so. Never, until Pep Boys. When Ch--s asked me for my driver's license, I thought nothing of it (both of our names are on the checking account) so, needless to say, I was shocked when he told me the check was declined, as was she. For check verification, Pep Boys happens to use an outfit called Certegy, a check service that, according to Credithaving.com, does not publicly reveal their methods of verification. I went in to get a new tire and that alone was $149.00 in less than a week I had to return because they installed that same tire wrong. when I got there I was asked if I had a tire warranty which was never mentioned. They really saved us when we were in a jam. After having a blow out on the interstate, we limped in on a donut. Looking to get 2 new tires, their neighbor next door couldn't fit us in until 3 PM. We went to Pep Boys and they were able to fit us in before 10 AM and had us back on the road before 11. We were able to make our appointment in the city (our reason for driving over to New Orleans). The staff was friendly and accommodating and the waiting area was quite comfortable (not that we had to wait that long). Thanks for the help. read more

See here is the trick... the con-game... you go online to schedule an appointment for an oil change. The online schedule is wide open. So you book thinking that you will indeed be seen at your scheduled time. Only to get here and be asked to leave your car... why would I leave my car for an oil change? They get you to bring your car knowing full well that they are already overbooked! So when I ask to reschedule for the next morning, because according to what I saw online, the schedule was wide open starting as early as 8 am, I'm told that they already have 15 appts. So the corporate office or web masters need to fix this mess, or just stop with the online scheduling all together because it is a scam. I just waisted an hour out of my work day, coming here at my scheduled time, only to be told they can't take care of my appointment. This is not the first time this place has lied about their availability. The last time, I was here waiting for over three hours for a different type of mechanical problem, only to leave without getting anything done. I came back to this location because in the past they have done well. But it seems like since the pandemic the service have gone down terribly. This is the last time I will deal with this location.... if I deal with Pep Boys ever again... and please Pep Boys rep... you can skip the whole "sorry for your experience and we will investigate further" response. I'm not buying it! People have been posting about these issues apparently for years and you post the same pitiful response... just take some action and make some change! read more

Your experience (or rather, my experience, since this is Yelp) really depends on a) who is working the desk inside and b) who is the mechanic you get. I've had an awesome experience with really helpful technicians, and really terrible ones with salespeople trying to extort a dummy dumb dumb G-I-R-L (my ovaries are keeping me from knowing anything about this scary foreign mechanical beast I ride!). Usually if we have to purchase anything for the cars, like a battery or windshield wiper or whatever, I will come by here because it's convenient and not super expensive. It's also located in a less shady part of the East than the multiple Autozones. I was told by a friend that if your check engine light comes on, you can go to Pep Boys and they will do a free diagnosis. The first time I came by was for that very reason. The very helpful mechanic who did my diagnostic was very honest with me and basically told me that the light could be reset but would keep coming on not because of any particular problem, but simply due to the lessened efficiency due to the vehicle's age. I didn't pay a dime, and besides the wait being a little long, I was pleased with the politeness, efficiency, and honesty of the people working. Thus, when I needed freon added because my air was blowing hot, I decided to return. That experience was TERRIBLE! A different guy working inside kept saying they couldn't touch the air unless I purchased a $32.99 air conditioning check-up. I finally gave in because he basically wouldn't stop going on about all the potential problems that could be keeping my air conditioning from cooling me down and, delirious from the 90 degree heat, let them do this check, since he promised that part of it would be topping off my freon. Turns out, that was the only thing that needed to be done. I was right. I paid $35 for what a gas station mechanic would have done for $15, the cost of a few ounces of freon; although not the cost of the freon I received because they only put in 3 ounces. Rude. The same guy at the desk then tried to overcharge me, swiping my card for $50 when the receipt he had printed clearly stated I only got the basic service. When I pointed it out, he did that sighing thing of "oh god, you're not going to make me void this out are you? You don't want to just pay an extra $15 and save me the trouble?" No, bro. I don't. When I got my car and peeked into the garage, the same mechanic that had helped me a month earlier wasn't there that day. I don't know if that means he got fed up with them and has a new gig elsewhere, or if I just came on the wrong day. Either way, I'm going to wait a minute before returning. No complaints about this place. I recently got four brand new 55k tires put on here. It ran me about $545 after taxes and fees. That was the best quote I got from the surrounding businesses. The waiting area is nothing special--a couple of miscellaneous chairs and a TV. You can see the bay from the waiting area. The staff was exceptionally friendly. I felt like they did a great job in a reasonable amount of time. The store itself seemed clean, well staffed, and safe. The restrooms are behind the counter in the employee area, but they're open to patrons. read more

I tried these guys out for the first time and my experience will not allow me to EVER go there again. They attempted to turn a minor job in to a major Labor cost. As a retired Engineer, I was totally aware of their attempt. They actually claimed to not know what the problem with my vehicle was and that it would cost me as much as $700.00 that they could analyze the vehicle to find out. After going into the service area to question the "mechanic" that worked on my vehicle, my theory of what was really happening came clearer. A simple leak in a hose as they claimed they had to do a $500.00 to $ 700.00 diagnostic was ridiculous. As I am an impatient writer, I hoe I made my point clear to this reader. The only reason they got one star is Bc they attempted to fix it. I got a flat tire pulled in and they put plugs in it. After leaving and making it 4 miles the same tire blew again i called them for help and they offers no help bit were quick to point out "yea we weren't sure those plugs would hold" funny enough when I was there I asked them "how long do these plugs hold" and they responded as long as you have the tire. Try 4 miles now I am stuck on the side of a freeway with the same flat tire I just paid for and spent 2 1/2 hours waiting for. These guys suck! Unapologetic for their screw up and obviously not great at doing plugs. read more

I had a horrible tire/rim problem thanks to New Orleans potholes and went to visit Pep Boys for some help. Cars stress me out, Pep Boys made this a non-stressful event. Not only is the staff friendly but they actually explain and breakdown the things going on to me and helped me as much as possible! That is a big deal for me. Went in, asked, and paid for a transmission flush. I asked if they had a machine for the fluid exchange to do it, they said yes, but I got a drain and refill instead. No machine was hooked up to my car, and they only used about 4 quart of Pennzoil Mercon/Dex III mix. I did not like the fluid they used for my car. How did I know? Well, I was in the garage while the mechanic was changing the fluids. I didn't say anything because I didn't know at the time I was there and didn't realize it until later when someone showed me the proper procedures for ATF fluid exchange. I've been here twice. First time was a flat time. The guy who helped me out had me sign up for their rewards because they do free patches for repairable tire damage if you're a rewards member. Saved me a few bucks so I was happy about it. Second time was for windshield wipers. The guy looked up my car make and model, helped me select the right wipers, rang me up, and installed them for me in the parking lot! He was very knowledgable and helped me with my questions. The servicemen are nice. All staff is willing to help. They won't do any extra services to your car without talking to you first. They usually things I need in stock. The only problem for me which is a BIG negative is that they are really SLOW. I made an appointment and it took them 1.5hrs to even get to my car, & Another 1.5 to work on it. I entered Pep Boys in N.O. east on Monday to get a quote and possibly purchase 2 tires. The tires I needed were in stock, the price I was quoted was $362.00. Once the cost to mount/balance and install was factored in I was given a price of $399.00. This was a bit more than I'm used to paying but reluctantly I agreed and decided on a Tuesday purchase. I enter the store and it took a little longer to get help but I waited. After several minutes I was assisted by a different salesperson than the Monday visit. He checked the appointment, got my vehicle information and began to make those faces while he looked at the computer. He went into this, "Your truck shouldn't have these tires they should have better tires than that." The salesperson gets my keys and does the old walk around the car checking things out move. I was informed he had to go back inside to check something out. He again goes to the computer and makes a few more faces then brings me an invoice for $478.00. I asked him what caused the drastic increase in price. He stated there was no change, he included everything I needed. I walked to the computer and asked what happened to the quote from the previous day. He pulls up the quote and shows me the $399.00 price. I explain that's what I came here for. How did he arrive at the new price. He says, "The cost of the 2 tires, the cost to mount/balance them and the tax." I again direct his attention to the quote from the previous day with the same information. He makes a few faces and says, "YOUR PRICE DOESN'T INCLUDE PUTTING THE TIRES ON. YOU WANT US TO PUT THEM ON TOO? THAT'S THE DIFFERENCE IN THE PRICE." I picked up my keys and walked away. He asked, "Well what do you want?" I told his $399.00. He said, "You can't have $399.00!" My husband came to this location on Sunday and was the first customer to be waited on at 9:00. He came in to purchase 4 new tires and get a front end alignment. He left at 1:30, a 4 hour job that should have taken half that time. When he spoke the the manager, he said "It's being worked on." Now I know why the line across the street at Firestone was so long. These are the most incompetent employees I have ever encountered! So about a month ago I take my car in to have one of the two batteries in my car replaced. Today I get an error reading I look it up and take it back to pep boys. First off Samantha acts as if she is slow in the brain. She obviously has no clue of what she is talking about nor did the tech she had inspect my car. They claim the work they did previous is fine and that they don't know anything about the main battery that is out of their scope. I tell her I didn't ask you about that battery I asked you about the one pep boys installed. I go out to retrieve my car the tech proceeds to tell me in a definite tone what the indicator light means. Which he was incorrect I already contacted the dealer as any smart car owner would do. Everything he said wasn't remotely what could be the issue. Sounds to me like they were trying to direct the blame away from pep boys. So I drive right to the dealer just to humor myself. It was an air filter sensor that's causing the issue. Yes I agree the issue wasn't with pep boys work, but for them to try to school when they obviously didn't know what they were talking about is a red flag. Won't be giving pep boys anywhere in the country my business again! read more

One of the worse service centers I've been to. Oil change and back brake change, they will keep your car for 8 hours. The maintenance men joke around and tell stories instead of getting your car done in a timely matter. Not only do you pay a lot but if the service was quicker and friendlier it wouldn't bother me. read more
