I pulled in to see a worker assisting a Samson dealership van. The worker seen me and closed the gate that was open. I waited over ten minutes and even honked my horn to receive no service. All I needed was for them to check the air in my tires. I came there to get my battery tested and they tried to charge me $20 for it I went to auto zone and got it for $0 in less than 5 minutes. Pep boys also made me wait 20 minutes although I told them I had an appointment they said " no appointments " whatever that means. True story: one day I tried to change the headlight bulb in my car on my own. I watched a few Youtube videos that made it look very easy (and doable within 20 minutes). I spent 45 minutes struggling and finally did it. However, when the *other* bulb went out, I did not want to repeat the experience, so I stopped by this Pep Boys near me to see if they could do it for me if I purchased the bulb from them. The store was empty when I went. It is fairly large, with both a service and retail area. There are rest rooms in the back if you are making a pit stop. There is even a snack section if you are going to be there for the long haul (they're not free, of course). You can buy crucial items for your car like sparkplugs and the like or pure vanity items like stickers to put on your car. I talked to the cashier and asked if he could replace the bulb. He offered to take a look. I purchased the bulb (since I needed it regardless of whether he installed it or not) and we went to look. Less than ten minutes later he had replaced the bulb and I was on my way! The young man who helped me was very friendly and he never hesitated to help me out. This place absolutely could care less if you have a good experience. I should've walked out when I saw customers complaining as I walked in the front door. The management is an embarrassment to the company. They gave me an alignment that was extremely off and didn't even try to rectify the issue. The tires they gave me looked worn on the outside wall and they promised me they would order new tires only to stall and wait to tell me too much time had passed to reorder. Came here for an oil change and ordered 2 new rear tires. It took about a week to get new tires put on. I do have some curb rash on my rims but whatever they did when using the machine to put my tires on the rim they banged them up more. I brought my car back because the rear tires were not balanced correctly. The rep gave me a hard time as to why my car is doing what it's doing like I didn't know my car. They ended up adding more weights to the tires and now it's better. They were rude and didn't listen to anything I had to say. The poor ratings this establishment has is well deserved! I recently moved to the Elizabeth area, and I wanted to find a local establishment to create a rapport with a local business and have my car needs taken care of...after reading other reviews on this location I still gave them a shot...wrong decision. Carlos is VERY unprofessional and after 3 visits he still does not know how to acknowledge a customer in a timely fashion, or at all. He does not care about your experience at this location one bit. His customer service alone would deter anyone from returning to this location. The place is being remodeled and it would be ashamed if they continued to allow Carlos to engage with customers. The other issue I had with Carlos is that I had to contact him at every turn, he ordered tires for me and gave me a day they would be in and never called on that day to let me know they were in, I had to call him only to find they were there and I couldn't get them done till the next day now...so I went to drop the car off prior to them closing at 7 and I arrived at 6:47 just to see that the doors were locked. I dropped car off the next day and mentioned to Carlos that I would like to have the 2 tires that were in good shape back as i planned to sell them to a used tire place, so when the job was done I asked for the 2 tires just to find out they had been picked up and were no longer there. Roz said he knew nothing about that and you need to speak to Carlos and of course Carlos said I never said that i wanted the tires back, I told him I did say that and i had already made calls locally to see where I could sell them so I did tell you that, he double down and said no you didn't! I let him know that I'm not a liar and he could say he didn't recall that or something other than I never said that, because I felt like he was calling me a liar. He said he would get them back and walked away...???? No timeline or come back later just walked away. Again he doesn't care about the customers experience, I later returned to pick up the tires where Roz was helpful. Stay away from this place until they get new supervisors and/or managers....it sucks to write this as this is my neighborhood facility but my family will not be using them again. read more

Had appoitment at 11am for oil change. Bring my car at 10:45. Guy at registar told me call after finish. I m wait to 2pm and called them. He said you car will be next. Wait intill 3:20 pm and go ther,just finiah. So lazy people. They give me receipt with recomended service what shoul I do right away, and show I need change air and cabin filter. And I change both filter 4 months ago on that place. Recomended changing for both filters is 10 000-15 000 miles. This pep boys center is as bad as the reviews it has been given. I can not fathom how upset I am by the service and damages this center has caused my car. To start off I brought the car in 3/25/2024, however my car was left on with the heater on at 80 in the sun for over 2 hours. I noticed this immediately as my car makes a beep noise when you unlock it. When confronting the person working the desk he went back in to speak to his crew which were his manager Carols, and an additional member. When walking back I was told that the car was left on 20 minutes and that they were incredibly sorry. I had explained what they did was not ok and that I was upset but no additional things were said for their error. When reviewing pictures and video tapping that is when I had really noticed that the car was not left on for "20 minutes" but rather in fact 2 hours. I had my husband call back and speak to the manager Carols but when the manager was told that there was a dash cam he admitted to the incident and stated that there would be "compensation" with services such as oil changes and other additional things. Carols also stated that he would be giving a call back on 3/26/2024 to speak further about the incident but he never did. However, services can not fix this as additional damages have been found to the car. The car's roof is dented and there are various marks with the body of the car exposed and the paint scratched off. This almost looks like there was a bar that fell on the car as the other side of the car has additional markings parallel to it. There is a dirty glove mark in the car and evidence that shows someone was in the back of the car when there was not a service requested for the inside. I've contacted corporate and have contacted my insurance with the advice that if pep boys corporate does not fix this then there will be legal pursuit for damages. Please do not come here as I have came here numerous of times and have always been met with my car being in the shop for an entire day for an oil change and additional hassle that have been swept under the rug. read more

I just read that someone went for a tire replacement and before going there their A/C was perfectly fine and after leaving pep boys the A/C wasn't working properly little did they know... that customer is a refrigeration mechanic and knows for fact that it took place while they were working on his car in this particular pep boys. I set up an appointment for free inspection. Abdullah diagnosed my car before inspection telling me I needed a wheel alignment, after waiting 2 1/2 hours. He tells me my front tires has 2 bubbles on them and I need to replace them and my rotor is bad. He went and did the wheel alignment and balanced all four tires. Without first giving me the opportunity to say yes or no. Why would you do a wheel alignment and balance someone's tires is they need to replace two tires and rotors. He basically robbed me and now I have to get my tires replaced and have another wheel alignment. Thanks a lot. Crooks. I will never visit Union, Nj Pepe boys ever again. You suck Abdullah. read more

Made an appointment for an oil change. The car wasn't touched for almost a half hour after the appointment time, which was 8:00 AM and they only had 1 car in the shop. The mechanic worked right in front of me through the observation window. He was very methodical, making notes on a report and when he needed me for a moment, he was very polite. All his writing was part of the free checks they do w/an oil change. He came up with $1,400 in additional work over the $20 oil change. He said that the car needed front and rear brakes, both lower front ball joints, and of course an alignment. When I previously had the car checked while getting tires at Pep Boys in Edison, the mechanic there said the ball joints were fine. The reality is, only the lower left ball joint is bad, which I knew going in, so neither knew what they were looking at. Oh, and it might be nice to change the front brakes, but there is still a good 10,000 miles of wear left (about 1 year's worth of driving), so it isn't needed. The rear likely has about 15,000+ miles on them but do need calipers, so even doing the full rear - maybe it's a $500 repair. Clearly: 1) Pep Boys isn't competent at diagnosing a vehicle properly 2) They are out to rip-off customers read more

Went in for tire replacement, and was surprised at how fast the service was. After driving away I noticed that my A/C was blowing hot air. A/C was perfect driving into Pep Boys. Checked pressures and it was low. I am a refrigeration mechanic and decided to recover and leak test system, No leaks. So someone had have let the gas out, and that is the only shop I went to recently. One star was for the fast service, but they will never have my business again. No no no no no no don't do it. For service. The wait time is ridiculous. I went yesterday (Tuesday ) at 11am and asked to have and oil change. The guy said it will be an hour and 30min wait for a walk in. I said no I will make "an appointment " and comeback tomorrow. I made an appointment for 1pm and came back on Wednesday. On Wednesday I walked in at 1250 for my 1pm "appointment " when I spoke to the guy he said Oh no there is an hour wait. I said "what ? But I have an appointment? They said no we are backed up. I was highly upset But I stayed. I needed the change. I waited 2 hours and 15 mins!! Ridiculous ridiculous, everyone on the waiting room was also impatient. I wanted to scream, But I had my "keep calm bracelet " so I was very calm. I almost lost it, But I didn't. The other customers did complain several times to the workers about their cars. I will never ever ever come back. I would rather learn how to change my own damn oil. And it was ridiculous how hard they tried to push their merchandise on you. Made an 8:00am appt online for Saturday, I get there I was told there were 4 other people ahead of me, all scheduled for 8:00am. I was told thAt there would be an 1 1/2 hr wait time and they would call when the car was ready. I waited for a phone call for 2/1/2 hrs, when I decided to walk to pep boys. I was told that they hadn't started my car and it would be a few more minutes, so again I waited. I noticed that my car was in a different place from were I dropped it off, so I went up to the front desk to double check if my car was ready. The guy was completely rude carried on a conversation w/ his coworker, never acknowledging my presence. Only to find out my car was ready for quite sometime but the mechanic forgot to bring back the paperwork and keys. So 3 hrs wasted for an oil change only to be treated like garbage. read more

First off I want to say the only enlightenment throughout that whole experience was talking to Johnathan. However what was frustrating was that as we showed up to the store and we were told that we would have to pay $271 to fix the alternator belt. As time goes by the mechanic catches the attitude swearing his way of inspecting the car is just putting a flashlight around the vehicle which they charged us $23. As more time goes by and Jonathan told us that we would have to pay $271 including the inspection and a new belt and the warrantee which I agreed with. About five minutes later I go to catch some air he says that his manager advised that we did not fix the belt unless we ordered another part that goes with the belt which he could've told me before I agreed paying $271 so now we were sitting there for about 45 minutes to an hour waiting for the car to get fixed but had no plans on fixing it because he tried to overly charge us $700 for two parts. My thing was he was a nice guy but why couldn't he have told me that in the first place now we're stuck in New Jersey trying to figure out how to make our way back to New York thanks Pep Boys read more

Don't ever go here unless you want your car broken worse than you brought it in. Do not believe a single good review on here. AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE OR THEY WILL BREAK YOUR CAR TO GENERATE MORE BUSINESS!!! I went in because a belt was installed improperly by another mechanic I went to a few months earlier and had snapped. When I originally dropped off my car, everything worked. I was the only owner and had barely put 30k on it. I was informed by one of the mechanics that my rear tires needed to be replaced, which I already knew so I agreed to the repairs as well as an oil change and replacement of the fan belt. The mechanic called me several hours later explaining that the pulleys were causing damage to the belt and needed to be fixed costing me an additional 100 dollars over the 600 I was quoted for the other work. I agreed. The following day when I went to pick up my car I noticed my car was handling funny AND my tire pressure light was on. it wasn't till I got home that I noticed BOTH TIRES THAT WERE REPLACED WERE FLAT!! So I drove the car back and had them fix it again...I waited for 2 hours until a mechanic got back to me telling me that the valve stem in my tire was damaged and could be fixed for another hundred dollars! THE SAME SENSORS THAT WORKED WHEN I DROPPED MY CAR OFF! I STILL didn't realize what was going on so I asked them to replace the valve stem with a basic one without the sensor until I could afford to get the appropriate part. I waited another 2 hours for the repairs... When I returned to my car MY POWER STEERING DIDN'T WORK!!! I asked to speak to a manager and was told by the mechanic there was none on duty. It wasn't until I was transferred back to the store by customer service that I was finally able to speak to a parts manager that had NO clue what was going on in their shop! So I'm now waiting for a call back from their district director while these mechanics are possibly trashing my car more because they're mad that I called corporate. Which by the way has not refunded me a single cent at this point. I hope no one ever has to go through the terrible ordeal I've been through with this company and I urge anyone that might possibly consider going here to get repairs done to please do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. I went there for an oil change, two weeks later I had to return because the filter was leaking. They had to replace the filter housing because they dented it when I brought it there TWO weeks prior. I went there for an oil change; made an appointment for 1pm. Waited till 122pm for them to get my car. Mgr. promised that a "free tire rotation" was included with it. I watched the tech, he never went anywhere near my tires. Then AFTER I said "email me my receipt" the desk manager made me wait, while he answered phone inquiries, for my printed copy. I finally got my car back at 230pm, 1 hour and 8 mins for a most unpleasant experience. Sorry pep boys but your managers have an idgaf attitude. I won't EVER be going back there. ugh. read more

My brakes went on the Garden State while I was driving home to VA from MA. Pretty terrifying.The very nice AAA driver towed me to Pep Boys in Roselle where the very kind and efficient manager, Mr. Nunez, and the very thorough mechanic, Mr. Brown, provided excellent service. Mr. Nunez went over the list of work that needed to be done, explaining each procedure. It was very involved (including fabricating brake lines...my car is 14 years old!), so I had to stay in the area for the night. Mr. Nunez helped me get a cab to take me to a motel in a safe neighborhood. When I got home, my husband reviewed the service invoice, and thought the cost was quite reasonable for all the work that was done, and said it looked like Mr. Brown "did a helluva good job."
