I've been to this location twice this year and continue to be impressed with the service provided. Visited in February for an oil change and a general tune-up based on mileage and was treated well with fair prices. Plus I love that you can make an appointment online! I brought my car back in September as I hit a pothole and my alignment appeared to be off as a result. They did a full inspection of the car and found a repair was needed. It was a Sunday and they seemed to have a difficult time getting the part in, but called around and got it done for me while keeping me in the loop along the way. All in all, I was out of there within 5 hours and my car is better than ever. As a note outside of the service I received, the signage about upgrades to the waiting area was up in February as well and there's been no discernible updates when I was there in September for a repair. I made an appointment online (a few days ago) to bring my vehicle in for an oil change yesterday morning at 9 AM. Normally, I will take my vehicle to the Chula Vista (Tierra Del Rey) location but since I was in the area, I figured "why not". When I got there, ALL of the service bays were full and only one tech was walking around. He asked what I wanted and I replied "oil change and tire rotation". He said that I would have to leave my vehicle for the day because everyone else was out. ARE YOU SERIOUS??? Terrible service. Appointment scheduled for 8 am no one there, left @815 am and rescheduled. Worse choice i could have made. The 100 dollar oil change cost me 1500 dollars in repairs at a different shop the next day when I had to tow my vehicle because my oil had all leaked out of my oil filter housing which was cracked. So I bought tires online and they were shipped to this Pep Boys Store for installation. I scheduled an appointment at 8AM, over a week in advance and arrived about 10 minutes early today. There was only one employee there. He first had trouble finding my reservation, then had trouble finding my tires, wasn't sure if I had payed for them and after clearing that up, had no employees there other than himself to do the install. Finally he said that I didnt really have an appointment, it was more of a dropoff time, but he would have the car done by the end of the day. CONSUMER BERWARE!!! I WOULD GIVE 0 if I could but that isn't an option. On Dec 26th I went in to have my front and back brakes done and all 4 rotars replaced. The work was done by Edwin. But on the paper work it states Josef was the mechanic. The next day I hear a clunky clack sound coming from my front end. That same day there was a death in my family and I was unable to address the situation until Jan 19th. I returned to Pep Boys and explained to them the clunking sound that I noticed the day after they did the brakes. I never had a clunking sound before PEPBOYS! They said they would perform a brake inspection to double check their work! SMH! YOU OBVIOUSLY DIDN'T DO THAT PEP BOYS! After inspection the tech found top hat on struct to be the root of the clunking and sway bar links to be the root of the clunking. KEY WORD ROOT OF CLUNKING! WRONG! they replaced the struts the clunking remained. Then they said the axles need to be replaced to fix the clunking ,They replaced the axles too. Well the clunking remained. ( IN THE MECHANIC VERBAGE STOP SHOTGUNNING) which means if you don't know what the clunking sound is don't start replacing parts in hopes of fixing the problem. I ended up taking my car to Toyota and having a PROPER BRAKE INSPECTION PERFORMED. at that time the technician at toyota found the front brake pads did not fit correctly which was the ROOT OF THE CLUNKING not only that but the back right brake wasn't installed correctly and was rubbing the rotar unevenly. I now have to pay to correct the BOTCHED WORK! and was sold axels, sway bars and struts that weren't the root of the clunking. THE BOTCHED BRAKE JOB IS THE ROOT OF THE CLUNKING. CONSUMER BEWARE. My Hubcap flew off right after I left the store. 3. I went and had to purchase Tire cleaner. Then after cleaning the tires myself I found out the Whitewalls were all damaged and look horrible. I had an 11am appointment and dropped off my car at 10:45 am and they said it would be "at least two hours". After waiting like a hooker on El Cajon Blvd for SEVEN HOURS they NEVER EVEN TOUCHED MY CAR. Jeff just gaslighted me and even 15 minutes before closing could not admit that they would not get to it and offered to keep it overnight. Gee...thanks! That was not an option for me. I had called around 3:30 to check up and was still under the impression that it would be done before 6pm closing. A simple "we may not get to it today" would have gone a looooong way. I don't live in town and planned my entire weekend around having my car serviced. He couldn't even offer a future coupon or priority appointment. He really didn't give a sht. Just terrible. First off-- I'm not one to leave reviews, good or bad, but my experience here was disgusting to say the least. I went in today around 5:15 pm to buy a new car battery. My battery was completely shot and my car failed to start twice today both times getting my kids to/from school. The place was dead, there was only one customer checking out. One of the employees at the counter assisted me, she was nice enough. I purchased the battery and asked if someone there would be able to put it in for me as they clearly advertise they do & for free. I know nothing about cars or how to change a battery. The lady said yes and would ask one of the other employees to do it. There were maybe four or five dudes working there. The first one she asked said he'd put it in. Five minutes later the lady tells me that they're waiting for another employee to do it. Several minutes after that she said a different person would be able to do it. Then again, several minutes later she said they were waiting for another person to clock in order to help me out. By this time I'm getting very impatient because I can hear her asking one person after the other to help me for them to say yes then pass it onto someone else. Finally, the employee I was told would be coming in walked through the door, foul attitude complaining about work saying he wanted to walk back out the door as soon as he walked in. She asked him if he could put my battery in and right away he started complaining. By this time I was fuming so I said straight up & obviously beyond irritated "Is there a problem?" The guy was silent & didn't care at all. The lady quickly said she'd help me out after 30 minutes (no exaggeration) of standing there waiting patiently. We went outside, popped my hood and she looked around for maybe a minute then said she'd be right back. Sure enough, she came back out with the miserable **** who basically refused to help me in the first place. 20 min later my battery was put in. I was there for almost an hour! Not sure if it normally takes that long but I started thinking maybe they're all just incompetent and LAZY AF and that's why they don't want to do their JOB!?! You know I shop here quite a bit at Pep Boys, and they have this very small sign on the front of the retail store that says they're currently closed. It looks like they're remodeling inside the store but the actual service center is in full swing and open. I came here almost a year ago to get a new tire when I had a flat. Waited a couple hours since I was a walk-in but had no complaints and Pep Boys did a great job. Came back today (Jan 2024) because I thought I had another flat tire and met Jeff. Very kind, helpful man. I ended up not having a flat tire (thank goodness) but he checked all my tires just to make sure and added air since they were low. This place is becoming my favorite auto parts store every time I need parts for my old junkers! First, let me say that I try to do all my own work on my vehicles. (Except for my wife's because she has a new Kia) These cars are a little over 20 years old, and they have been very good to me. Obviously, some things are eventually gonna break. That's where Pep Boys comes in handy. They are the largest, most complete parts store around. Before, I was hesitant to come here mainly because they closed earlier than other parts stores in my area. Also, the other competitor's stores are closer to home. However, in the last month I've had to purchase a radiator for one car, and a catalytic converter fro the other. Both times when looking online to price these items, Pep boys offered a 25% discount when you ordered online! I thought this was great so I took advantage of the deal! I saved at least $25 off the first item and over $30 off the second!! This, of course frees up more $$ to go out more and do more Yelping! Now who would complain about that? And then I called Pep Boys, my old standby that I hadn't used in years. Jeff said they could get me in today and get me a diagnostic code to give to the specialist down in Chula. They got me in and out, gave me the code, and even helped me locate a potential parts supplier and a dealership in TJ (they don't make my car in the US anymore).
