Went in for a tire change after being told by Mavis and Firestone my totals were 165 and 171. Mr. Willis at this location was incredibly customer friendly and efficient. I visited Pep Boys on Apalachee Parkway on 4/29/25 because my A/C was blowing hot air. After waiting for several hours, I was told that my Shredder valves needed to be replaced. I paid $672 to have the issue repaired. Unfortunately, about three weeks later, my A/C was blowing hot air again. I returned and was told another small part needed to be replaced. After that repair, the A/C only worked for another three weeks before the same problem returned. At that point, I was extremely frustrated. I brought my vehicle back again, and they performed another dye test. I was told they could not find any leaks and that the issue had been resolved. However, it was obvious that it had not been fixed because the refrigerant continued to leak out. The only solution I was offered was to bring the vehicle back each time the A/C started blowing hot so they could recharge the system. I filed complaints through email and made multiple calls to corporate but never received a response. Now, a year later and in the middle of summer, I am still dealing with the same issue that should have been properly diagnosed and repaired during my original visits. I recently took my vehicle to another shop, where they performed the same inspection using dye and immediately found a leak in the evaporator core. The technician stated that it "lit up like a Christmas tree" and could not understand how the leak was missed during previous inspections. They explained that this leak is exactly why my A/C would only stay cold for a few weeks at a time. I am extremely disappointed with the service I received at the Apalachee Parkway location. Had the problem been correctly diagnosed from the beginning, I could have made an informed decision about the repair when I had the funds available. Instead, I spent $672 on repairs that did not solve the problem and am now facing a $2,400 repair bill for an issue that should have been identified much earlier. If we could give a 0 for a rate, we would. This is to update an original yelp post from the end of February 2026. We are now a month from this post and have been lied to and given the run around. THE STORE MANAGER AT THE CAPITAL CIRCLE LOCATION IS A DISHONEST PERSON. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS LOCATION! They will take advantage of you and lie to you to keep you coming back to spend money. This is a total fraudulent place ORIGINAL YELP POST: THIS IS FROM MY HUSBAND: I will try to compose myself in this email, but at this point I'm a very frustrated and unhappy customer. This concerns the Pep Boys location #1525 at 2237 CCNE, in Tallahassee, Florida. On 2/9/26 I took my 2018 GMC Sierra there because my engine light was on. I had already been to Advanced Auto and had an OBD2 check done. It showed codes for a "minor emission/evaporation leak." After the staff did a diagnostic check, they called and informed me my truck needed a full tune up. They also tried to tell me they needed to install a new battery. I declined that because I had just installed a brand new battery at Battery Source just a few months prior. I would have them look at it. I approved the tune up. I was also informed the person that knew how to do the "smoke test" on the emission system was off until the next day, so I'd need to bring it back. This initial visit cost $1,142.21. The manager on duty informed me their OBD2 also showed only a minor emission leak. "Probably just a bad hose". Work Order #2091720. I took my truck directly to Battery Source who said the battery was fine. An interesting side note, after this tune up the engine light was off. On 2/11/26 I dropped my truck off for a smoke test to locate the "minor leak". I soon received a call that the minor leak turned out to be a need to replace several major parts in the emission system to the tune of $1,537.31. Not being a mechanic myself as I worked in law enforcement for 45 years, I could not intelligently debate this with them. I was assured that would fix the problem. I approved the work. Work order 2091748. On 2/19/26 the engine light was on once again. On 2/20/26 I dropped my truck back off to them again. They contact me back and informed me they had reset a clip on one of the components and it was fixed at no charge. I picked my truck back up and on 2/23/26 the engine light came back on again. On 2/24/26 I took my truck to Advanced Auto who ran the OBD2 diagnostic again and got the same code that was there prior to any of these repairs. Which again indicates a minor emission leak such as a pin point hole in a hose. An employee there indicated that probably this means several of the repair done and/or parts replaced were not needed. So regardless of all of this and the total of $2,679.52 spend on repairs the original problem has not been fixed. I am naturally suspicious due to my career, but as you can see from what I've noted above I have some true concerns I was taken advantage of. I have reached out to customer service at Pepboys and filed a complaint and was told someone would get back in touch with me but thus far have heard nothing. read more

About 3 months ago; l took my vehicle in for service thinking it was my struts. I was informed immediately that it wasn't my struts but my tires. That was great relief for me. Long story short, I arrived at this Pepboys location shortly after opening at around 7:30am, was given a timeframe of a 2 hour service for work that should not have been that difficult to complete, and did not receive my vehicle until after 3:00pm. That's a 7 hour service with no logical explanation on why it took so long, and why I wasn't contacted during that time for any updates. The one-star was given for the discount they gave me, although it definitely doesn't make up for the serious lack of customer service. I went in for a maintenance check and to have my windshield fluid filled. I was the second person in the shop and I had showed up just after they opened around 7:30am. They showed me some of the parts that needed replacing which included a serpentine belt, alternator belt, axle shaft, cv axle, and tires. I initially declined the tires and anything related to them because I would rather have gone to my tire place to get them done, but was told they were having a sale for buy 3 get 1 free and since they stated it wouldn't take any more time to have them replaced with everything else, I figured why not since I'm already here. I was told this would take about 2 hours. I went home to wait for the service to be done and made the mistake of not calling after 2 hours, 3 hours, 4 hours and so on. I finally called after they'd had my vehicle for 5 hours and was told that it would be another 45 minutes! There was NO explanation offered on why it wasn't done, why it would take longer, and zero apology. Well, the service did not take another 45 minutes, it took another 2 hours because I had called at 1:00pm and they didn't contact me again until almost 3:00pm. I arrived at the shop and, like a normal human being who appreciates customer service, kindly asked them why the service that was estimated to be 2 hours had turned into a 6-7 hour ordeal. The man at the register had no reasonable explanation besides "Well, we did get busy after you left, so other than that, I don't really know." Granted, this person was not the same employee who originally gave me the timeframe earlier that day, but he was one of the few workers that had been there in the morning before I left so I thought maybe he would have an idea of what could have possibly created such a huge delay. Not so much. I basically told him it was a good thing I didn't have much planned that day (Saturday), but as a business, if you tell someone you're going to get a job done within a set amount of time, you should get it done within that amount of time. I would assume that's common sense. So, I left as an unsatisfied customer and to top it all off, my front passenger side floor was somehow dirtied with leaves and muck which doesn't make sense because nobody had been in that seat since I had it detailed a week before and my driver's side was just as I had left it - clean. So this past weekend I was driving around town and every night for like 4 days, my right rear turn signal light bulb was out. I knew it was broken and I knew that I had to go to the store to get it replaced, but I am such a procrastinator that I kept holding it off. Plus it was Halloween weekend and I wanted to partake in as many festivities as I could. So finally after a Sunday lunch I went across the street to Pep Boys and simply told whoever approached me first, "I think my light is burnt out, I don't know how to change it, can you do it for me?" Simple as that. The worker came outside to my car, opened up the light housing, took out the burnt light bulb, went inside to find the matching light bulb, I paid for it and then he changed it. Good as new and only cost me about $10 and 10 minutes. Thanks Pep Boys. You are a simple and easy place to go to for small fixes and Auto Parts. I do not know more about their other services, but I would probably only come here if I had no other option since the pricing is a bit more than others. read more

Absolutely the worst place to get your car worked on. I've been sucked in a couple times because I was out of town during the week, needed some work done on the weekend, and didn't feel like doing it myself. Never again. First time I brought it in for a belt replacement on saturday, having had them assure me it would be done by the evening. It wasn't 'ready' until Sunday evening. I go to pick it up and open the hood to have a look. Not only was the same belt still on there, it was so loose I could pull it off the pulley. I made them give me a refund, took it home, and ended up having to do it myself. The next time, I needed a brake job done. I mistakenly figured that they couldn't mess up a brake job. Well, they call and tell me that my master cyclinder also needs to be replaced and that will be $200 more. I didn't trust them so I went and picked it up. The brake peddle went all the way to the floor. I drove home using the emergency brake. I bought a new master cylinder and was about to start taking things apart when I noticed a puddle by the rear right brake. I investigate and find out that they didn't tighten the brake line and I was pumping out fluid. The master cylinder was fine. Feel free to draw your own conclusions about their competence and/or honesty. read more

Friendly staff...Um...What else? This is your standard big-chain mechanic shop. I would never dream of having any serious mechanical repairs done at this sort of place. Find a mechanic you can trust, or at least one who has been in business for a long time so you can commiserate later with others the guy has screwed. I brought one of my vehicles here for an oil change recently on a whim. Pep Boys has a reputation (with me, anyway) for affordable oil changes. I had initially gone to a "Super Lube" down the street, but they wanted $37 for a standard 5 quart oil change with dino oil! Pep Boys, on the other hand, had a special going for a $30 oil change which, unbeknownst to me, apparently also included a Pennzoil oil additive. Whoopee. IT TOOK FOREVER for them to even get around to my car. They did the tires on another person's car who came in after me and only then bothered to get to my oil change. Time from arrival to departure ended up being about 1.5 hours. An hour and a half for an oil change? Really? Cars may like them, but I sure don't love them. Anyway, the oil change was done competently (I watched) but they didn't bother to check any of the other fluids and I had to step out and ask them to check the tires for me (I knew they needed some air) which they then did. As you can always expect at places like this, the employees are under a tremendous pressure to up-sell. The only thing they tried to sell to me (which is pretty standard at oil changes) was an air filter for $20. I declined and on the way home stopped at NAPA and picked up one for $12 which I installed myself in about a minute. Nice $8 savings. The real answer for me to these experiences is to stop being so lazy and climb under my car and do my own oil changes. For those who lack the knowledge or physical ability to do so, Pep Boys will manage alright on these small repairs, but please find a more experienced shop with higher paid mechanics to do those major repairs. I'm not one to exaggerate, so please believe me when I say this place is the worst! If it were any way possible, I'd give this place 0 stars.. Even negative stars if possible! But would only do so to warn and deter other users and people of the future headache, frustration, and urge to pull out all hair. So to begin, my car wouldn't start while being at a store. I called my own AAA to get it towed to the closest auto place. Given it was late (7pm) I figured they couldn't do much that night. Upon examination and describing of the problem.. 2 mechanics said the problem was definitely the starter. I left it there overnight to get worked on the next day. I get a call around 3 saying that they fixed the problem saying it didn't start because the battery was dead and the wires were bad so they replaced it all. (Um.. The battery was working when I tried starting it and even the mechanics the night before said it was the starter. But I thought whatever what do I know?) I picked it up and drove it to school the next day to only find out that it wouldn't start again when leaving! Called pep boys to have it towed back to their shop so they could find out what was going on. They even tried to CHARGE ME to tow the car back to their shop even though they supposedly "fixed the problem". The mechanics then told me that it was definitely the starter. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? and they were trying to charge me FOR ANOTHER SHOP AND LABOR FEE FOR IT BEING BACK IN THE SHOP AGAIN BECAUSE THEY MESSED UP. Um, F**K THAT. We had to CALL THEM for 3 days to see if our car was done, I'm pretty sure that's THEIR JOB. To top it all off, it had been done since the first day and we had been carless for 3 days for no reason. We called and spoke to Alex on Tuesday to set a Saturday appointment to replace struts and tires. Alex assured us the parts would be at the store and the car would be completed in time to drive out Saturday night. When we arrived at the store the woman at the desk said we weren't in the system. But she told us they would be able to take care of it. So we left the car and took an Uber out to run errands. Over an hour later we got a call from Pep Boys to let us know they didn't have the parts. Don't count on these people to take care of you even if you give them four days advanced notice. read more

I was assisted by Lance who helped me to snap my moonroof visor back on and to find the right spot to plug in a fuse because all 4 of my o2 sensors weren't working, kicking on my check engine light. Another associate was sure o2 sensors don't run on a fuse, but after being adamant that it did on my car, Lance didn't hesitate to help me out! After googling which one it was, we popped one in there and my check engine light went off! Big kudos to him for outstanding service and for coming outside in the heat with that long sleeve shirt on. My experience at this Pep Boys has been mixed (and hence the three star review). I brought my car there to get the AC fixed nearly a year ago and after several return visits, it is finally working. The customer service tends to be slow and sometimes inconsiderate, but the mechanics seem capable and are eventually able to diagnose and fix problems. The only person with whom I interacted who proved himself to be both competent and honest is someone named Clint. My recommendation is to ask for him by name if you need any work done on your vehicle...he did not charge me unnecessary fees, knew what he was talking about, and deligated work so that my car eventually got fixed. I signed up for Yelp specifically so that people could know that there is at least one person there who does good work. Thanks Clint! read more

Don't even waste your time. I only returned bc the area manager made the gm give me a free oil change due to the poor experience prior. (Lied about the "included warranty and charged me more)... I had a 12p appointment I was late for and I got there at 12:45. He asked me to return at 2:30 and he could take me then. I show up at 2:25 and the car doesn't go in the shop until 3:45!! I get the car back from my "30 min oil change" at 4:45 and the tan cloth seats have been sat in by the greasy guy who drove it around. I told the manager they messed my seats up and he said he would "fix it"! Then I go to the car and all he did was wet the seat... The middle consul was even still greasy and black. So in 4 hours of my time wasted I got my free oil change. Cool. Thanks. I'll NEVER be returning and due to my job that's very close I'll be sure to let anyone know to stay away!! read more

They hooked me up big time today. This could be TMI, but a cat crawled under my skid plate and died in there between the plate and the engine. They took down the skip plate, in spite of the horrible smell, got the dead animal out, disposed of it, put the plate back on, and had me out of there in good time. My husband and I were driving from Florida to Texas when our car started making a terrible noise. We ended up at Pep Boys mainly because of proximity and they were one of the few places open on Sunday. Clint came right out to have a look as well as an additional mechanic, Sam. They brought the car in and assured us they would have it fixed and back on the road so we wouldn't have to spend the night. Clint and Sam worked an hour and a half past closing time to make sure the car was good for us to drive! They were extremely friendly and even were willing to speak to our hometown mechanic who recently worked on the vehicle. Great team and very accommodating! read more

"Pep Boys does everything for less" MY ASS! I took my magnum in to get the cooling system fixed, they charged my $65 just to look at it and came to the conclusion that the radiator was leaking. So when I asked them how much it would cost for a new radiator, they told me $1000 just for the thing itself! Cost of labour not included! So I took it to a local guy who flushed out the whole cooling system and replaced both the radiator and the hoses for $300. AVOID PEP BOYS LIKE THE PLAGUE!!! I highly recommend Tommy's Auto Services. Funny thing is I took it somewhere else and had to get my car fix and paid less than $200 and the work took less than 20 mins to change the piece that cost $70 but pepboys wanted to charge over $100 for it and almost $300 dor labor. I could say so many wonderful things about Pep Boys, but since I am not able to lie in good conscience then we'll go with the truth. Last year I went into Pep Boys to get what I suspected was a battery changed. Sure enough I needed a new battery! Three hours later and after they said they had to replace the battery twice because the 1st one was bad I walked out. Well, honestly, I stormed out because THREE HOURS for a BATTERY! Still I bought the nicer battery and got a three year warranty so, all in all, I'm set, right? Right??? Almost a year to the day - well about a week before the day - my car wont start. I have my bro jump me off and think "Fluke!" Then, within the next three weeks it happens twice more. Not a fluke. I go into Pep Boys and, after giving me several alternate theories on why everything else in my car could (and probably is) the problem other than the battery, they finally agree that it is the most likely scenario and they will replace my battery...but it'll probably be three hours. I told them I would come back on the weekend. The next Saturday I show up, paperwork in hand and a song in my heart because all of my car problems are about to be solved...or are they? This time the guy once again give me all kinds of theories about some 2nd car on the grassy knoll that could possible have tried to kill my car while their battery was just a patsy, until I shut that down and they agree to at least test the battery. Once the test is complete they tell me, nope, not the battery. "I mean, it's a little low on charge, but that could happen if you left your doors open sometime." Which, hey, if you leave your doors open and YOU HAVE NO ALTERNATOR IN YOUR CAR then sure. Still, he says they are going to charge it for me. Ok. I tell them they're going to charge it for me, but they graciously (grudgingly) agree. I leave the car to run a few errands and, fool that I am, I come back in 2 hours figuring "It's only a charge." What an optimist! What a foolish optimistic optimist. Not charged, nothing done, car looks at me like "Haven't you had enough disappointment for one day?" Why, yes car, I have. I take my car and leave. The next time my hubby is off I ask him to take the car to Pep Boys and put his "You shoulda' just told them you want the battery replaced - period" plan into action. He goes. They test. The machine sputters and giggles and shoots out a ticket saying, "Replace the battery, dummy, like y'all should have done the first time this nice lady came in." So they replace it. Yay! Win! Finally Pep Boys has done something worthy of praise. Customer service at its finest. Whoda' thunk it? See all you doubters! See how Pep Boys honors their word and does the right thing? And on and on the happy dance in my head goes...until the moment they present us with a bill for the installation fee. Whatchu talkin' about Willis? So, just so I'm clear on this, you have already done the work and expect to be paid, without bothering to inform me that I would be charged for you all to correct a problem that you all caused in the first place by selling me a craptastic battery which I already paid to have installed last year when you should have given me a good battery in the first place? And if we want to talk your mechanics' time... I have now sat in your showroom for 3 hours last year, had to leave my car for two hours this year, have visited your store no less than 3 times to get the repair made for your faulty equipment, and had to be jumped off twice and walk home in the dark at least once because my battery failed. The way I figure it you owe me approximately $4,327.52. And I'm not even charging you for the time it took me to write this review. That's just a generous bonus on my part. Horrible Service. I came in on a slow day, Sunday, 1:00pm, just don't to get a steering system check, $23 cost with tax. Asked the front desk, how long will it take, he said won't take long. Said sure, I'll just wait...1 hr later, 3 cars skipped me later, one of which looked like family/friends of a tech, (i say that because of the way they were laughing and walking around the inside of the shop, how they walked in with the tech), I asked for my keys back, because I've been skipped. My husband took our car by to get the brake lights replaced as they both were out. The tech told him the bulbs were fused to the casings and that all of it would have to be replaced at a cost of over $200. Of course taken back, my husband asked how much the parts would cost and the guy told him $38 +/-. So my husband asked to purchase the parts so he could do it himself and the guy refused to sell him the parts as it would, "cost them money" to loose the labor cost. The guy would not even give him the parts number. As you can imagine, they received $0 from us. Instead, my husband went to Advanced Autoparts, purchased the bulbs for $6.50, and replaced them no problem. Obviously, the bulbs were not melted/fused into the casings and this Pep Boys was trying to scam us. This is the second time they have tried to get money out of us for things that were either not broken or was not the correct repair. We certainly will not be going back and we will be telling all of our friends/family about these horrible experiences as well. read more

I was upset when I left Pep Boys....OK, understatement I was upset in the waiting room. Last Saturday, I set up an appointment with Pep Boys for Monday at 4:30. I was there at 4:17 and waited for 35 minutes before they moved my car into the bay. I waited another 20 minutes at least before they asked me for my tire lock. But I couldn't find it because the people who put my tires on still had it. I know, not their fault. I agree I waited before I am retired from the military, but the wait their fault....because I made an appointment having too many is not an excuse if you were the one who suggested it making an appointment. I told him that I'd like to schedule another appointment, he said no, just bring it in, huh?!!! So, today at 3:40 I took my car in. There was only one other car there. I thought Great I should be in and out.....WRONG!!!! The guy behind the desk took my keys and left. The other guy behind the counter although appearing to have his customer service jargon down, demonstrated a conflict in his actions. I did not sit down, I was curious. I watched 2 guys working on one vehicle. And he slid his rolling stool under the car that was lifted over their heads pointing and talking about the underlining of the car I guess. I call that work. He came in and out apologizing, but no action. After about 25 to 30 minutes one of the mechanics finally took my car out for a test drive. Slowly they began working on my car.....another female came in and the customer representative came from behind the counter worked on her car and she was out of there. Another guy had his tires changed and he was out of there. Oh, did I forget that while the customer representative when rolled his stool under the car and became 3, my car was not in the bay until the mechanic did it. But the customer service representative did pull everyone else's car in hmmmmmm. And he did the service in nice white shirt and all for the woman who came in after me and left before me.....And I young guy needing an alignment good price.....in and out of there. Finally 2 hours later, the mechanic working on my vehicle comes in walk past me goes to the guy behind the counter to he customer representative and gives him my paperwork explaining my deficiencies. I was quoted about $375 for the break job and services alone....But I also needed my fluid flushed. OK. I prepared for the cost of the brakes, with the intention of going back the next day to take care of the fluids. I wanted to deal with cash. But then the mechanic working on my vehicle called the guy from behind the desk and he stepped out. I turned around to look at them and they were talking and the representative had his back turned to me as though they did not want me to know what they were talking about. He came back with a smile and customer service friendly telling me that I also need the rotors. I said, OK. I will do the fluid flush today and the brakes next month. Honestly, at that point, well before that point I was already done with them. I'd planned on getting a second opinion or buying my own parts. Once he added the rotors to the $375 it was well over $600. I did not hear him after I heard the 6. I kept my composure but I was livid. It took another hour to do the fluids. And can anyone please tell me why my mechanic did not put the tires back on first and then flush the fluids. Did he think I was going to change my mind? OK. Let me take it down a notch. When I paid for my 2 out of 3 flushes, the third was not done (Transmission Fluid) because some took their transmission fluid machine. The customer service, part mechanic, never asked if I had a rewards card. I asked about it and he honored it. I then asked him for an itemized breakdown of my brake charges because I read the book of charges on the table in their waiting room and it left me questioning the quote he gave me. And when he finished giving me the brake down he said if you find it cheaper we honor it plus $5. I said OK. He then continued to say that have to bring in a receipt of the proposed charges. And told he was going to take off for my wait.....I paid my $132. And almost with out my tire lock. Something was a little degrading about that experience. I goggled brake shoes and rotors and the first price worked $375, even if I understand a little profit almost $300 more was ridiculous and insulting. Oh, a little tidbit I forgot to mention. A woman wanted to leave her car there and pick it up in the morning, and the was prior to my quote, the other mechanic and the customer service representative said they did not need that because they needed $900 to close out the night.
