I was having an electrical problem, the indicator lights on my Ford Focus. I replaced all the light housings a year ago and now am finding out that the Chinese aftermarket parts are wired differently and take different numbered bulbs and such. Things I used to be able to do myself have completely changed. A ran down to the nearby shop ( Bearse Blvd, North Tampa ). They weren't even open yet but the manager Ernesto, and 2 techs ( Jimmy & ??) Came out anyways and figured it out for me. They hadn't seen it before either but they stuck with it and figured it. Stay away from this location! I have dealt with this location on multiple occasions and they have ripped us off. Larry Corbin, the service manager is scam artist with fleet vehicles. On occasion #1 we brought our vehicle to have an oil change done. They attempted to push through work for multiple other items that were not necessary including a transmission flush. My driver told them No but he was told they would do it anyway. I stepped in and after back and forth where Larry insisted it was going to be done; I made it clear it wasn't happening. He was unprofessional and nasty. Any idiot servicing the type of vehicle we have should be keenly aware that a transmission flush creates a situation that often leads to early failure. They don't care. They want to just bill it up knowing they can take advantage of fleets. Occasion #2. We brought a vehicle for an oil change this last week for expressly an oil change only. They went around and without authorization from our company; replaced a tire, did an alignment, changed multiple other filters and a battery that was fully functional. To the tune of $700. They are dishonest, rude, and scammy. I have already filed with our fleet provider to have them removed as a fleet service provider and will never use their services again. If I could give zero stars, I would. Pep Boys Gainesville (Store #0127) returned my father's 2012 Nissan Titan in a dangerously unsafe condition after brake service that cost over $1,500. Within 49 miles of leaving their shop, the brakes failed again on the highway, causing severe shaking and brake drag. My father, who has medical needs, was forced to tow the truck to Tampa for another $950 (Gainesville promised reimbursement, but never paid). Tampa Pep Boys (Store #0143) then charged another $665 for "repairs" that still didn't fix the underlying problem. A third-party inspection later found a missing caliper bolt - a catastrophic oversight that could have caused a crash - as well as warped rotors that had less than 90 miles on them. This was negligence, plain and simple. Pep Boys' regional manager admitted Gainesville was at fault. But Pep Boys corporate has ignored all requests for reimbursement or acknowledgment of their dangerous work. My father's safety meant nothing to them. We are now out over $3,000 for "repairs" that were improperly done and caused serious risk to life and property. If you value your safety, your time, and your wallet, avoid Pep Boys at all costs. I made an appointment for an oil change. 9am. I arrive and informed they do not have the oil filter for my car but tell me they can get one in 1 hour. Also manager tryed to shame me by telling me my car needs a large quantity of oil. I call @11... no oil filter but they will have one soon. I was never called. I had never used Pepboys before, but my usual (Meineke) had no available appointments and I had to make an unexpected 400 mile road trip to a family member. I'm never going back to this Pep Boy's. Bad service is one thing, but endangering someone's life while driving takes it to a whole new level. The story is: I went today to get new tires. The mechanic told me $2700 of repairs to the axle would be needed. I've been to this Pep Boys twice in the past 10 months, once at the beginning of this month for an oil change, and then in December 2024 to do many repairs. After my visit in December 2024, I was told everything checks out. At my oil change at the beginning of this month, I was told again that everything checks out. Meanwhile I've been asking them why I've been hearing a squeaking sound every time I turn my wheels when I drive, and these $2700 in repairs are part of the reason why. I asked why these inspections were not occurring at last month's oil change and when my car was literally taken apart to be repaired in December. All the manager kept saying was, "I don't know, I wasn't there." Yes, I did get upset and frustrated--I said why was I being lied to, was I not being given accurate service because I'm female, I asked repeatedly why I wasn't given the full inspections each time. And then the manager printed out December 2024's list of repairs made and said that I had been told about the addition repairs needed that he advised today would cost $2700. I really was not told this! I took out a loan to pay for the $3000 in car repairs I had back in December 2024, during which I was never told about the $2700 additional repairs needed. I'm not sure if this print out the manager gave me was thus fabricated. I told him to put all the old tires back on the car, and he went ahead and put the new ones on and tried to charge me for them. I truly do wish all that occurred during this appointment was getting new tires, paying for them, and driving off. I probably would have come back to this Pep Boys if getting tires was all that I came here to do, rather than be gaslit by these people on whether or not I know which repairs have been advised on my car in the past. I've wondered in the past if they're intentionally breaking things just to get me to come back and have them repaired with them. Well, maybe now I have my answer: I've included a picture of my back left tire, which is one of my old tires that I told them to place back on my car. I did not arrive to Pep Boys with bad tires. None of my tires were flat before I went to Pep Boys. These people literally punctured one of my old tires before putting them all back on. They looked fine when I started driving, but as soon as I got on the main road, my car started shaking. I pull over and I see that this tire is now flat. This is dangerous! I've never had a repair shop be this petty and actively seek to endanger a customer while driving by intentionally damaging something on the car. If all the "big men" in there wanted to scare me to "get back at me" for pointing out their shoddy repair practices, because they see a woman customer they can't take seriously, well congratulations, they succeeded. I'm never going back to this Pep Boys, and I also don't recommend any other women customers go here either, because clearly if they think you're being a problem, they're going to get back at you and endanger you in the process. read more

My tire blew at the light right before the turn into Pep Boys. I literally rolled in and put my car in park. I walked across the parking lot in the rain and went inside to ask if someone could help me check for a spare as I wasn't able to move or lift anything heavy. Ian was quick to accompany me back out in the rain, move everything in my back trunk space, and verify that I had a spare. He told me to go back inside and wait and he'd get it looked at. About 10-15 mins go by and he comes back, tells me he's put the spare on, NO charge, and to pull my car around so he could fill my other tires and load my flat into the back after laying plastic down. He didn't want to get into my car because he had gotten dirty changing my tire and didn't want to dirty the inside. Ian really came through for me today and I am so thankful for his kindness and generosity!! He saved me from having an absolute disaster of an afternoon and I am super grateful! read more

I was told after I paid my bill for the broken ac unit in my car during my first initial visit that no other money would be due if I took it back as I would more than likely have to come back anyhow and they would fix it at no extra cost... Tom was great. This pep boys was exceptional. I got a flat tire just down the road from this pep boys. I drove in approximately 15 minutes before closing. Tom treated me as if I came in at the beginning of the day. He was very helpful, knowledgeable, and professional. By the time I finished ordering a new tire they were closing up. Tom offered to store my car inside for the night even though they were already locked. This Pep Boys was great. I had called up to ask prices about headlight replacement bulbs. After talking to two different Associates about the pricing for the bulbs alone, not one of them said that they don't sell the parts alone. Instead they failed to mention the $25 service fee to install the $19 bulbs. Pretty shady. I would not recommend them as they are not honest. read more

Made an appointment online, and they were waiting for me when I arrived. Found out I had a piece of metal in my tire that could not repaired, so I would need to completely replace the tire. When I asked to see the damaged tire, Adam rolled it in for me to see. The service was timely and Adam made it fun. I am also impressed with the customer waiting area. have been going to this store since before I was old enough to drive with my parents, I have never been to a place of business with such poor of customer service, so I made an appointment yesterday for today because last night (8/16/2021) I got a flat tire.I needed my new (4) Michelin pilot sport all seasons tires To be installed at 6 o'clock due to me working late and having to be at work before 8 o'clock in the morning, so only real time I have (during the work week) is after 5. So I set the appointment for 6 knowing this would fit my work schedule, so I get a call about 10 o'clock in the morning from PAUL "a service writer" that was VERY VERY RUDE. Stated that time will not work for them and I will need to reschedule. Remember I have spare tire and my vehicle is AWD and I can only drive on my spare temporary, so I got upset with PAUL and asked him what I'm supposed to do with my vehicle until then he stated he doesn't know but they can't complete my request in store today because they close an hour after and don't want to stay late to complete my service. I called the corporate number and put in a complaint, the District manager called me back and was very understanding, he stated he would make sure they stay as late as I need them to get the job done. As I was on the phone with the District manager the Store manager (Larry) called me and left a Voicemail. Stated " "Hey it's Larry with Pep Boys I did keep somebody late today, we need you here exactly at 6 o'clock so we can get the four tires put on only. I will get you out here by seven hopefully".......So I got to the Pepboys 30 to 40 mins Before my appointment so they could not blame me for being late, when I walked in and asked if the person I was talking to was (Paul) due to the person upfront not having a Name tag on he stated he was not and he would get (Paul) I review I didn't want to work with Paul and was fine working with him (Jose). I gave Jose my name and he made a comment "your the guy with the appointment at 6pm for 4 tires" he proceeded to state if it was him he would have made the appointment for the weekend because they always cancel appointment's for tires installs if it's after 5pm. I review I had already talked to the District manager and was told they are not supposed to turn customer away, Jose started arguing with me about how I was wrong and they have always done that, I went over with Jose that if he was me and worked til 5 and had an flat on the Hwy and made this appointment for the next day in the pretence that, my issue would be addressed as a customer Hassle free and was not how would he feel. Jose came back at me with I'm not you and would know better, I stated well with the way he is speaking to me in the tone and the rudeness I am not sure if I feel comfortable doing my service there if this is how they talk to customers at this location. They had a Keirig machine so I made myself a nice hot cup of coffee. Then sat down in a comfy chair and tried to change the channel to watch The Steelers playoff game. But it wouldn't work. So a lovely man from the service center came and fixed it for me. When my car was finished they called me on my cell phone. I will be taking my car back again to get my brakes checked. My husband brought our 2016 Jeep Cherokee in for an oil change and was told that the front bushings needed to be replaced. First off, the car is just now 3 yrs old, it only has 81K miles on it, there is no play in the wheel, no vibrations, still runs like new, the stearing wheel is as tight as can be. My best guess is that they saw the UBER sign on the windshield and thought they could win one over. Not this time, scam someone else. Was told the manager of store had my complaint closed as resolved (when I never spoke to him about resolution). Reopened ticket to wait for next 48 hour contact. Sent to voicemail of district manager who has yet time contact me 4 days later. Want to change my rating to 1/2 star but app won't allow it. What started as an anxious day at a Tampa veterinarian hospital with our 3 year old long haired dachshund became somewhat surreal when a road hazard (a tie down hook) came flying toward us on US I-75. Needless to say, the strap went under the car and embedded itself in our right front tire. My husband changed out the tire with the donut spare and called the nearest tire service store to the animal hospital, Pep Boys on 8705 North Dale Mabry Highway. Manager, Jose answered the phone and said we could drop it off right away. They assessed the tire and were able to plug the hole. James, tire mechanic, completed the repair and replaced the tire. The cost? FREE. In 2022, following the pandemic when all small businesses are suffering, these gentlemen knew we were having a rough day and couldn't have been kinder and more efficient. I recently traveled to the Lutz area for my nieces wedding. Somewhere on the drive down from Chicago, a rock or something hit my a/c condenser and put a hole in it. Stopped by Pep Boys and was assisted by Paul. This was on a Saturday. Paul gave me an estimate, and I dropped off my 2014 ford expedition on Sunday morning at 0800. At 2pm, Paul called me and said I had a/c again. Paul was very polite, knowledgeable, and was able to help me on bill a little (retired military). I thought the bill was very reasonable, work looked professional, and a/c was 40F!! Got my car serviced here. They were friendly and prompt. David was great with customer service. He took care of all my needs. I did not have an appointment, but they were able to help me right away. I have been in the store a couple times before. The staff has always been helpful. This was the first time I had my car serviced here. It was a Tuesday morning. They changed my oil and replaced the reverse lights. My car is supposed to get synthetic oil and a special filter. Overall it ran me about $80. That was expected. The staff kept me posted on their progress. They work hard and get the job done. I have no complaints. I will surely be back. read more

I often go to Pep Boys for the location convenience and price. This evening I stopped by late to see if I could get an oil change. "Freddie" took great care of me and my son's 1994 Jeep YJ! I was in and out in around 20 minutes! I could not be happier with the service. Add the "service" to the convenience and price and you have a great option for auto repair/maintenance. I went to another place and found out a needed a new tire because the nail was too close to the wall to the patch. They didn't have the tire at that store so I decided to come back to pep boys. When I came in, a different guy helped me and told me it was going to be 30-40 mins not 2 hours like the first guy said. Well I dropped it off went back home and came back one hour and 10 mins and the tire has not been touched . Rude and condescending staff. Checked in with Paul who was rude and then dealt with a man whose name I don't know but my receipt says Larry Corbin so I'll assume that was him. Waited 20 minutes when I came to pick up my car while Larry ignored me and carried on a conversation with two middle aged white men, one of whom kept getting declines in his credit card. Larry took him back and forth between registers and chit chatted with anyone who came to the register from the back. Around the 20 minute mark, he looks at me and shouts "HEY COME HERE... I mean please." I walk up and he goes "I set this up for you to check out, I thought I told you that." I said "no you didn't." No one had acknowledged me for the twenty minutes I was standing there until he barked at me. He walked away, finished dealing with some other guy, then returned to silently hand me my receipt and keys. While I was signing my name, an elderly white woman got into line and he immediately said to her "Hi ma'am I'll be with you in just a moment." I would say you cannot expect customer service from this place, except I watched all the old white people around me get great service. I'll stick with a dealership from now on. read more
