Service was great. Cheerful and attentive. Prices were extremely reasonable for the lunch specials. Hubby got the chimichanga and it even came with rice and beans! I got the small beef taco salad which was actually not small at all. Everything was hot, and fresh tasting. Taco sauce had decent flavor. Didn't care for the Montelobo's mezcal artesanal tequila which they were touting on the table placard. It tasted and smelled like mothballs. Not the fault of anyone though. This is a pretty neat restaurant! Parking is around the back and there seemed to be plenty of it. I like how the exterior seems to transport you out of Phoenix in a way. Inside, it seemed that the guy working at the restaurant were very familiar with the customers inside. There must be lots of regulars here! We wanted number 21 on the menu but were told that they were sold out, even at 10:00 in the morning on a Saturday. Apparently those are very delicious and they tend to sell out fast. We were told that the best way to get them is to come early at opening. The older lady working there was so cute! The man who took our order was calling her grandma. Don't know what's going on, but we've come several times on Sunday mornings, during hours posted as being open both on the website and Yelp, to find the place is closed. Yesterday around 10:30, there was us and three other cars of customers in your parking lot wondering what was going on. The outgoing message says open on Sundays and that if the phone isn't answered it's because you're with customers, but then the woman recording the message abruptly halts and it sounds like an argument. Food was all right, or in other words a ok... had a chiller Relleno and three different types of tacos. I will say I did appreciate that it was not grease dripping off of my food like many other Mexican restaurants just wish there was more flavor. They do have a full bar, and We had great service. I came for the first time about a week ago for breakfast on a Saturday with a few friends that wanted me to taste the goodness and of course they would close because of electrical issues. I was beyond bummed but nothing I could do. So I decided to come back and try it when they didn't have electrical issues and let me just say it was worth the wait!! This will now be my favorite Mexican restaurant in the valley and bonus it's close to home! Margaritas are on point and good it's au-then-tic!! A few pics. Oh and chips and salsa so good! I've totally had better! The mole itself is pretty good but the chicken was super dry. My daughter ordered steak picado and it had a weird taste not to mention it was too spicy for her to eat. The green enchiladas are super gross!! They make it with shredded beef and again their marinade was disgusting. Not to be rude but this place was packed with old white people. It's very Tex mex style and the waitresses cater to them. Our waitress came up to us once after our food was delivered and asked if everything was ok. Sadly, she doesn't know I'm an excellent tipper. Wowza! I love this place. After years of driving past Pepe's we finally stopped in ...on you guessed...yup..right on Taco Tuesday. How was it? Sooooo goooood. The chips and salsa are made in house and you'll for sure get tears from that salsa. The tacos are huge and insane delicious and you can choose soft or crispy. Crispy baby!! So good...so so so good. For $1 you really get your buck's worth. Oh but just wait until you taste the green corn tamales. I am such a sucker for these green chiles. Come to mama you hot tamale!! Small neighborhood diner, family run. Original owner "Mom" is still seen in the place. Daughter runs it now but consistent as ever. Been around for 40 some years. I enjoy that the staff is always the same with a great and pleasant family atmosphere. Feels like the neighborhood "CHEERS" . Now the food is truly an experience, their Mole enchiladas are fabulous but I really like repeating the Swiss Beef Enchiladas smothered in a creamy/cheesy green sauce!! They're menu is very extensive yet never a disappointment as every plate is made to order! Truly an old fashioned way of cooking. Not like many where one sauce covers three or four plates nope each has its unique recipe and flavors. If there is something you don't favor like tomatoes or onion or want them just tell the your waiter and they'll prepare it to your liking. They even cater to vegan clientele. Margaritas are a great addition to your meal! Everything from drinks to meals are very generously served you won't go hungry here. I dunno how many time they've gotten the "best of" for their Green Chile with Beef but I've never had better! This is actually a very popular joint just that it's in a very unassuming location. Service is always friendly and attentive. Oh one last thing their Taco Dorados are so damn good! I go quite often as I live nearby. Never feel like I'm dining alone here. I was on the hunt for a sit down Mexican restaruant on my way home. I couple places I passed because the parking lot was filled and I was by myself and needed quiet. I pulled in to this tiny parking lot and was relieved to see only a few cars. I walked in and I stood there for a second when First waitress told me to sit anywhere. So I walked in and grabbed a booth. First waitress took my drink order: Horchata and a water. Second waitress came up handing me a menu and asking for my drink order. I told her First already took it. A few minutes later Second came back with chips, two different salsa's and a glass of water. I gave her my order: Friday Special Albondigas soup with flour tortilla and a side of refried beans. She walked away and a minute later returned to ask me again if I wanted flour or corn tortilla. Well I waited for my dinner, I dived into the chips and salsa. First issue, the salsa are in SQUEEZE BOTTLES. Really!?!? How am I going to dip my chip in this?? On this small PLATE?! Annoyed. Needless to say I made a mess but I enjoyed them. The green salsa was nice and spicy. The red had that "burnt" taste. I don't know how to describe it, its not actually burnt ...maybe a mole type taste. But both were delicious regardless, even if it wasn't chunky salsa. My soup arrived in a HUGE bowl with 4 HUGE meatballs. Chunks of tomato, bell pepper and onions. You can taste the tomato sauce and was very flavorful and came with a side of rice. My beans were in a large dish and the tortilla was nice and hot. The soup was sooo delicious I'm still thinking about it today!! The rice though was a bit disappointing, there was chunks in it like it had been sitting all day. The beans I had to scrap the cheese to the side but they were about average but perfect couple with the chip and salsa. During my meal I realized First waitress never brought me my drinks. But Second waitress was very attentive and when she checked on me I asked for my Horchata. It was a cute little restaurant, the booths backs are very tall for privacy and the margarita's must have been good because every 5mins I heard the blender go off. With the exception of First waitress, the service was excellent, Second had stopped by making sure I had everything I needed several times. Everything together cost $13.07! Very inexpensive for a delicious huge meal. I will be back. read more

My husband called ahead to make sure they could social distance seat us as a lot of restaurants are not doing that anymore. They went above and beyond to accommodate us! So I had the Chile relleno with rice and beans. It was very tasty the cheese they used was very good! I enjoyed the chips and sauce they provided. They had two types of sauces. Mild and hot which both were good. What I didn't enjoy at all was the poor service I received. I walked in and no one was there so I stood in the front for about 5 mins or so and was finally approached by someone who sat me down, she immediately brought me chips and took my drink order. I told her I was also ready to order so she also took my food order. Well I never saw my waitress again. I never received my water or drink. The most annoying part was that she was seating order people down around me and bringing them their drinks and being very attentive while I was trying to get her attention so I could get my drink. Well someone else brought me my food and I asked them to bring me my drink since my waitress never did. She did, but didn't even apologize. I had to get up and get my own box to go, and also had to get up to get my own check.
